Postcards From An Underwater New York

Tyler Durden's picture

Once the surge levees break, the water level just soars and covers everything in a "reverse Titanic" as the following pictures demonstrate:

And to think there were people on this site poo-pooing this storm as Media Hype!

Fuck all of you hacks. There was a Cat 1 storm that recently hit New Orleans. It sat there and went round and round, dumped a tion of water on the poor city. This is only a few hours in, and just look at it.

Horrible. I amy not be a big fan of New York, but i would not wish this on anyone.

First huricane eh Buba?  Well shit happens.

Funny how the NATIONAL media only covers these things 24/7 when it's happening in their own backyard or there's a political point to be made that serves their masters (e.g. Katrina).

Yeah, it's a tragedy.  Innocent people are going to suffer.  They always do.  It is truly sad.

"OH, BUT...BUT it's New York!  Soooo many people.  The power nexus of the world!"

Sorry, that don't cut it with me.  Remember the last huricane to hit the Texas coast?

Thought not.  By huricane standards it was a small one, Cat 2 I think, but in Sep 2008 it was barelling toward the fourth largest city in this country with 20% of the crude refining capacity in the immeditae area.  Ike hit and inflicted massive damage to those poor folks and barely a peep from the fucking national media!  Probably because there was a "bigger" story going on that involved how to bail out the power boys in NYC.

Check out these pics of the aftermath: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/09/the_short_but_eventful_life_of.html

Now do you have a fucking clue why some people might be a little pissed off at the level of national news coverage that this storm is getting??????

As I said, it really is sad whats happening to people in Sandy's path.  I hope they're safe.  Hell, yankees are a hardy crew and will bounce back from this like they do everything.  But don't get me started on the excessive national media coverage of this storm.

Shit.  Too late you already did!

I follow every big hurricane. Wherever it hits. And yeah, it's quite ridiculous that NYC get all the attention now when everywhere else gets ignored.

/but this is still one in a century + storm.

//and I ain't from NYC... FAR FROM IT.

Being Free's picture

Yeah, I guess the lack of national coverage on Ike is really a sore point for me.  I had lived, for 15+ years, only a few dozen miles from where it hit land and have many close friends there.  There was virtually no coverage from the MSM on it and being so far away it was pretty frustrating trying to find out what was going on.

Sandy is one of a kind, glad to see she sped up.

my bad. what do you do? i mean...phuck. shit. god damn. New York Harbor is REALLY deep...that is a HUGE body of water. It's now on land...at some point it will be back where it came from. Obviously the City is going to be down all week...maybe longer. The property damage is already staggering. The National Guard will have to be called in....maybe even the regular Army itself. An opening towards understanding how connected we all truly are? Will look forward to the President's speech.

Granted I have absolutely no basis for my assertion, but I'm pretty sure that once the tide goes out all the water will recede back off the island as well. Well, other than basements, the subway system that lacks sufficient water pump systems, etc. But all the other water. So I think it will be just fine.

It should recede leaving it alot of places clear, but my thought is, they are pretty low on food already with transportation fuxed, few bridges and stuff get damaged even when the water recedes its major trouble.

Of all the states that do issue carry pistol licenses, New York State has arguably the strictest handgun licensing policies in the nation.[1] New York City, which is effectively a "No-Issue" jurisdiction for carry pistol licenses,[8] has even stricter laws, including those regulating handguns exclusively kept at home.[9]

- USGS issued landslide alerts for Northeastern Maryland, Northern Delaware, and Southeastern Pennsylvania.

- Water level still rising in Lower Manhattan. Now 13.8ft -- 2.3ft above previous record. Storm surge has exceeded 9ft. #Sandy

- East River is overtopping the Roosevelt and flowing into the park at the bottom of her street.

Damage is probably gonna be way bigger than anticipated... Krugman has probably already passed out from all the jerking off he has been doing.

oh shit I read the wrong nanny.gov page

The purpose of a safe room or a wind shelter is to provide a space where you and your family can seek refuge that provides a high level of protection. You can build a safe room in one of several places in your home.

  • Your basement
  • Atop a concrete slab-on-grade foundation or garage floor.
  • An interior room on the first floor.

Safe rooms built below ground level provide the greatest protection,

Thank you for exposing your complete lack of humanity.  So stupid people should just die, because you've never made a mistake and never will, right?  Like believing that the news was just hyping this storm and it was not really dangerous, as many on ZH believed before tonight?  I've read probably 100 posts here to that effect over the last 24 hours, many of whom were convinced the government was lying and overstating the threat.  Had those folks lived in NY, they would have stayed assuming they were being honest about their beliefs.  They would have made a mistake.  So die fuckers.  At least you are honest about your lack of empathy for fellow human beings (unless they are children, though I wonder at what age cut-off you think stupidity should be a death sentence for them) and your view that you are the only adult person on the planet worth the air.

this is America the land of illertacie food stams and Mike the Mom. If .gov says head to the cellar WTF head to the cellar. And if you're ankle deep in water at what point do say time to head on upstairs, or do you just say nope I'm going to hold my breath and stay in the saferoom in the basement.

more people were killed in America in  car crashes between 7am and 7:30 am today then will die in this storm

1st world problems.  I feel a lot more sympathetic to the 60 people who died in the Carribean as a result of this storm than those "suffering" and starting fires in the tristate area.  The folks in the Carribean didn't stand a chance.

Minor home repairs in the tristate area should not be costing the taxpayers $20 billion.
And because of TARP, I believe that Wall Street has that money.  See the fiscall cliff?  We're BROKE!

Geebus, I hope that flood insurance was covered in the high rents/mortgages/HOA fees that they shelled out.

Are the realtors comping their flood insurance and the deductibles?

I wonder how much of that triple tax they paid into that they're gonna recieve back.  Maybe they should thnk again before throwing that kind of money at standard houses on the market.

Stupidity is a serious 1st world problem because they force everyone else to suffer on their junky behalf. .
