Americans Aged 18-29 Have A More Favorable Response To Socialism Than To Capitalism

Tyler Durden's picture

In the prior post, we showed a presentation that looked at America from the perspective of a corporation and how it would be completely unsustainable. Luckily, there is little probability that America will ever have anything to do with S-Corp status, and far more likely end up as an agrarian Kolhoz. The reason: based on a Pew survey of America's youth, or those aged 18-29, more have a positive view response toward Socialism than they do toward Capitalism. We will leave it at that.

Socialism: 49% Positive / 43% Negative:

And Capitalism: 46% Positive / 47% Negative:

How about 'socialism works until the complete lack of incentives to produce and the huge (normal) incentives to consume ensure that demand completely outstrips supply and the resulting scarcity causes people to seek answers through an increasingly repressive and murderous regime.'?

A couple of points here - first of all you seem to indicate that the only motivator for effort is profit - i.e. the only motivator is the promise of power over another. This promotes greed and self interest - both of which conspire to break our economy.

Secondly - what you describe also goes for Capitalism - just that the motivation to make money drives the participants to create and maintain monopolies. When these monopolies are powerful enough they can enlist the help of Government (through lobbying) to impose an "increasingly repressive and murderous regime"

Would you prefer that you complete idiot?

Hey - it's not me who thinks we can 'go back to capitalism' - when we're already in it - and that this was all predicted over 100 years ago - but you stil think we can 'go back'?

What's the plan genius? - drop all regulation and see the banks fail?

How will you deal with the ensuing riots when you just reduced the state to nothing?

This is a good exmaple of why repeating other people's nonsense is a bad idea.

The United States has more legislation regulating commerce at the Federal, State and municipal levels than any other nations on earth, and that is the system you describe as 'unfettered, unregulated capitalism'?

Pull your head out of your ass.

...and why? - BECAUSE THE CONSUMER DEMANDED IT!

Pull your head out of your ass.

You have your head so far up your ass that the shit you talk now makes 'sense'!

The problem is never regulation - the problem is monopoly power and regulation is created in response to monopoly power.

Read up on the middle ages meat market and you will see why butchers in London were forced to sell only during daylight hours.

Regulation DEMANDED by the CONSUMER but imposed by the GOVERNMENT.

...or woudl you rather play Russian roulette with your meat?

I know its long for a friday but please read it all before hitting the down arrow.

First, as to your remarks in Jamaica concerning the possible realignment of the Republican and Democratic parties into “conservative” and "liberal" parties. Whatever the circumstances of the statement, you have indicated that you believe that might be "a happy thing." I disagree.

We need only look at the experience of some ideologically oriented parties in Europe to realize that chaos can result. Dogmatic ideological parties tend to splinter the political and social fabric of a nation, lead to governmental crises and deadlock, and stymie the compromises so often necessary to preserve freedom and achieve progress. A broad based two party structure produces a degree of political stability and viability not otherwise attainable.

A platform whose basic emphasis was on state, local and individual rights and responsibilities but which failed to pledge state, local and individual action in the civil rights field was clearly vulnerable to charges of inconsistency, and more important, of bowing to the segregationists in the South. With respect to the extremism amendment, as I said at the time:

"Experience shouts the differences between success and failure are small. I do not believe our country will survive present perils unless the Republican party provides the program and the leadership that will recapture the interest, respect and support of a majority of voting Americans.”

"With extremists of the right and left preaching and practicing hate, and bearing false witness on the basis of guilt by association and circumstantial rationalization and with such extremists rising to official positions of leadership in the Republican party, we cannot recapture the respect of the nation and lead it to its necessary spiritual, moral, and political rebirth if we hide our heads in the sand and decline to even recognize in our platform that the nation is again beset by modern 'know nothings.’"

The real challenge for us lies in the expansion of voter support for the Republican party in all parts of the country, urban or rural, North or South, colored or white.

Young Americans have not had an opportunity to become capitalists so they really don't know what it is about.
