Job Changes By Sector In Past Year

Tyler Durden's picture

Curious which sectors, according to the BLS, have been hiring in the past year? Per the Establishment survey, of the 1,949K or so jobs added in the past year, the bulk of additions have come to the Professional and Business Services sector (525K), Education and Health (414K), and Trade, Transportation and Utilities (345K). Government has actually seen a decline in total jobs in the past year.

Loss of government jobs?  Just wait until the interest rate on all that debt goes from 14 basis points to 500 basis points, then you will see some real government job losses.

Kinda shocked to see that gov added no jobs last year. But then again when do you really see them do layoffs?

Its only the working sector, that takes the brunt of it all.

The problem we are having now, is the shift from High paying jobs, to low paying jobs.

That is where the real impact is.

Corporate profits are at record highs, hence the hiring of the suits.  It takes a skilled staff to correctly project the elasticity of the product line and to change the size and price of the product line to keep profits going at the pace of inflation.  It’s not as easy as it sounds.

The profits are “fake” profits reflecting more the inflation occurring from monetary expansion.

In an inflationary environment companies need business skills to market, price products, and repackage.

If the economy was having genuine noninflationary productive growth you would see the investment portion of the economy booming.

Construction, Manufacturing, mining and logging would be better performers.

So why is it being reported that private sector job cuts are increasing?

Because "keeping up with inflation" used to mean profits from foreign sales (in foreign currency) exchanged into dollars, but now means "firing a lot of people to pad the bottom line".

I think some states are shedding jobs (cali cops in a few locales heh)...  presumably the net zero would have to come from federal jobs created...

Of course, with the interconnectivity of private jobs dependent upon governmental jobs/actors, I'm not sure every government job lost doesn't at least contribute to underemployment of at least one private job.  I'd guess it's probably multiples of this...  I'm not sure you can even dissociate the two at this point.

It's impossible to do without a very large guess...  the interconnectivity of government and private jobs at this point is nothing short of inmeshment.  If the government owns 40% of your broke dick financial institution, then is 40% of your work force considered government employed?  What about the other 60% who were completely dependent upon the government largesse?  What about the "private" sector jobs that rely upon the bank jobs to make ends meet?  Too much speculation.  I think we'd all be scared with what was left after removing uncle sam's arm from the private sector sock puppet's ass.

I think it is good news that employment in the government falls. It would be better to make this process faster, although government spending are not just workers. Any effort made ??by the government to lower its costs will be good for the country's economy.

Any jobs actually created are at a fraction of the salary the person hired used to make. Plus they are prob without benefits or substantially reduced benefits. Yet that persons cost of living has gone nowhere but up. I am sure CNBC will cover this right after commercial break.

Which goes to show just how accurate the report is actually. And why "no one showed up...nor will they ever show up....for Hurricane relief." Like I said "the Plan was for a Hurricane PARTY at Club Cloud way up high in the Chrysler building!" Not to save "all you little people who have to drive to work." Let alone "people who drive for a living." Your DestinyUSA awaits. Just remember what Shakespeare said..."revenge is a dish best served COLD."

Funny, my definition of private sector must be different from them. Industries that are wards of the state don't qualify; education, health, and utilities are just government embezzlement schemes that are off the official books.

I checked the numbers with the Bureau of Labor and Statistics and they are similar. Looking at State by State may change the statistic. States are losing jobs as in California and states are adding jobs like North Corilina. You will have to hire a teacher, a whearhouse fork lift driver and a secritary in payroll for the added population leaveing california and moving to NC.  This is more of a population shift than jobs. Also as was said earlery the part time jobs are not defined by catagory. This is one of those articals thrown together by a under imployed writer in about 5 min. Still works as it makes me think of what a mess we are in.
