Guest Post: What An Obama Victory Means For The Middle East

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Claude Salhani of OilPrice.com,

Memo to the Arab World: Good news and bad news with the re-election of Barack Obama to the White House.

The good news is that a victory by the Republican candidate Mitt Romney would have given Israel and its current leadership a free hand at continuing a policy of arrogance that will lead the region towards greater mayhem. Romney’s lack of experience in foreign affairs compiled with his extreme pro-Israeli stance could have encouraged Israel’s hawkish government towards military adventurism rather than to seek solutions through diplomacy and dialogue, the latter being the only way anything will ever get resolved. Perhaps Obama, who sees things somewhat differently, might help keep Mr. Netanyahu’s government in check until there is a change in Israel’s political landscape.

On the other hand, while there may be reason to rejoice with Obama in the Oval Office, seeing that Israel might have to think twice before turning to its military instead of its foreign service to address matters of national importance,  don’t expect anything drastically different to happen in the Middle East in so far as US involvement goes.

The enthusiasm with which Obama came to Washington four years ago and the eagerness with which he wanted to tackle the Middle East problem has followed in the footsteps of others before him who have also started out with similar vigour only to be stonewalled from one side or the other. Just ask Gunnar Jarring, John Rogers, Henry Kissinger, Jimmy Carter and to Bill Clinton, to name but a few.

The next four years, in so far as active and positive involvement by the United States in the Middle East, are likely to be as lean as the past four years have been; in other words, minimal involvement and dismal at that.

Don’t expect anything terribly different from the second Obama administration when it comes to the Middle East. Barack Obama started out his first term four years ago by grabbing the Middle East bull by the horns, believing he could, come Inauguration Day on January 20th, use the leverage of America’s clout with Israel and with some Arab countries that were heavily indebted to the United States, like Egypt, to finally bring about a negotiated peaceful settlement to the sixty-plus years of strife that the region has had to live with.

However, once faced with the reality of the complexity of the task ahead and the potential negative repercussions that meddling in Middle Eastern affairs could have on voters at home, solving the country’s domestic issues – unemployment, the deficit, etc. – seemed an easier and more rewarding task.

The degree by which Washington was removed from what was happening on the ground is reflected in the manner in which the administration was caught by surprise by the events of the Arab Spring. Indeed, Washington lost precious time when the popular uprising first began to shake and reshape the destiny of the Arab world as crowds took to the streets of Tunis, Cairo and Benghazi, forcing long-standing dictators to step down and in the case of Tunisia and Egypt, forced the US to lose close allies.

And if Obama’s acceptance speech delivered in Chicago Tuesday night is anything to judge by, where his only mention of anything related to foreign affairs was a reference to “freeing ourselves from foreign oil,” it seems obvious that the Obama administration will want to focus on solving domestic issues such as the economy, unemployment and fixing the deficit, tackling health insurance, issues that have dominated the presidential campaign and debates these past few months.

And at the end of the day these are issues that matters most to the average American who would rather not have to worry about the Middle East and terrorism – that is until they come knocking at our doors as they did on September 11, 2001.

That memory alone should act as a reminder that we cannot live secluded from the rest of the world’s problems. If we don’t help others address their issues those issues will very likely become our issues too one day; as was the case before.

President Obama’s reluctance to become involved is understandable. However with the elections behind him now and without the burden of future campaigns Obama should renew his efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East.  Helping the Palestinians to establish their state will help set America’s place in the Middle East as an honest broker for peace.

The West will get the oil.

The East will get the oil.

The West and the East may go to war over the oil.

Oil = Food.

The Middle East is sitting on 100 years of grain:  rice, wheat, soybean, corn.

The oil will be pumped and sold, and the people who live there will sell it or be crushed.

Israel and other shoe horns make convenient allies to assure the oil flows so the food keeps going to the proletariat.

I'm not advocating anything, just making an observation about the necessity of oil for providing cheap food to the masses to prevent them from questioning TPTB.

Gee and here I thought it was our constant fucking around with other peoples shit, especially in the ME, that was the root cause of their hatred for America. I'm sure the daily drone attacks are helpful as well, along with destroying their financial ability to feed themselves because of our reckless monetary policies and other miscellaneous and devious forms of fuckery. Stop using 911 as justification to occupy and steal the resources of the ME. Articles like this belong on Huffpo.

I have a word for people who think their life sucks because the JEWS did it.

LOSERS.

You shit in your own bed, now enjoy it. The jews didn't fuck your life up, you did that yourself.

Take a little personal responsibility and move on for Christ's sake. (He was a jew too, at least until they grabbed him during passover dinner.)

Christ was NOT a "Jew"!  He was a Judahite, from the tribe of Judah.  They were Hebrews, Israelites.  The term "Jew" is a fairly modern creation to blur accurate distinctions.

A Jew is a person who comes under the authority of the "Jewish" religion, which should be called TALMUDISM.

The Talmud is the hostile nullification of the Old Testament Torah, and is the embodiment of the "traditions of men" which Jesus condemned roundly and constantly throughout the New Testament.  He even went as far as calling these inventors and authors of this Talmud "the synagogue of Satan" and "those that call themselves Yehudis and are not."  (Yehudis means "followers of Yahweh".)

The Old Testament followers of Yahweh were called Hebrews or Israelites in the Hebrew....NOT "Jews"!

English translations, since the nacent development of Zionism in the early/mid 1800's), have used one general term, "Jews", for several vastly different and particular words, which really should be translated Judean, Judahite, and follower of Yahweh. This is not accurate translation and breeds confusion....intentional, I'm sure.

All you really need to know is this:  Modern Judaism = Talmudism = anti-Christ system

It is also interesting to note that there are a small group of "Jews" who only follow the Torah, denounce the Talmud, and don't recognize the modern state of Israel, as they point out that their nation can't be "re-established" until the return of their messiah.  So people should realize that there is an important distinction which must always be made when speaking of "Jew":  There are "Torah Jews" and there are "Talmud Jews".  Talmudism is the heart and sould of communism.  Several notable Jewish authors have admitted this.

I suggest a book by Ted Pike called "Israel:  Our Duty, Our Dilemma".  You need to learn the truth!

Thanks!  Discernment is a rigorous discipline, but it must be pursued.

That being said, I consider Talmudism as a threat to ALL humanity!

(Israel's political identity is philosophically based on the Talmud.  This is Orthodox Judaism.

A Jew is ... ?

Is currently an unanswered question in the Nation of Israel today.  The definition of what is a Jew is still being debated today.

The Torah are the first five books of the Jewish Bible / Old Testament.  The Talmud is the written conversation about the Oral Law given along with the written law to Moses at Mt. Sinai.  The Talmud is important to Rabbinic Judaism.  Rabbi's are important only to Jews that are religious.  There are quite a number of Jews who are not religious and therefore pay scant attention to Rabbis or the Talmud.

Yes, I know all of those things.  Pretty basic.  But the important point is that the rabbis and Orthodoxy (Talmudism) rule Israel/Israelis with an iron fist, and are causing quite a bit of mayhem for the entire world.

Why don't the secular Jews then rise up in mass and decry these rabid rabbis/Zionists?  Silence is complicity.

Ahh, Sophistry. It works great to confuse the assistant instructor when the prof is out boinking co-eds instead of lecturing.

I'm sure all of the hate directed at the Jews comes after a thorough understanding of just who's Jews.

4 out of 5 skinheads agree that they didn't really have a fully formed hatred of the Jews until they'd taken time to read "Israel: Our Duty, Our Dilemma."

OT, but just am watching Fox Business Network, and the blonde is interviewing the Attorney General of NY about 'price gouging', and this 'elected official' has not a clue about the market. And he's going beyond just gas stations jacking up prices (which is still their right, if this is really a capitalist country); he also is villifying Craigslist gas sellers like ZH posted about about a week ago. I should say beyond villifying, too, because it sounds like he's saying it is illegal, and he's going on about how New Yorkers have 'big mouths' aka see something, say something Napolitano style.

Of course, just one of the seemingly infinite do-gooder interventionist policies along with min. wage, regulations, etc. that harm people directly, as well as through the unseen consequences a la what the money used to rebuild after hurricane could have gone for instead, like savings.

Does anyone really believe that the (antichrist) religious Middle East people will aaccept and sustain a ''Secular'' offer of peace with Israel and all the nations? hmmm? hmmm? lol, ...much less ....by the same age old standard ''convert or die'' , LMAO, point of a gun principle offer? LMAO. Umm, people have proven time and time again, they would rather die than eat shit. Hello.

Is there any current example that comes to mind, like say ...a Federal Reserve Debt Note with the 666 Image of the Beast on it and the words ''New Secular Order'', proving that people may fall for an Antichrist (new secular order) offer up to the point of failure, war and death?

The dipshit that wrote the article is obviously a Dirt Claude full of shit. In my best Walken voice, ''the Dirt Caude's calculations are all wrongah''. Lol. Let me apprise you of a couple of inconvenient facts:

1)  Islam reveres Jesus Christ as a great prophet and esteems His Mother Mary.

2)  The MOST important book of Judaism, the Babylonian Talmud, states that Mary was a whore, and that Jesus was a sorcerer, etc, and is presently and eternally residing in hell, boiling in excrement.

3)  An Army Intelligence report from just before 9/11 stated that the Mossad is "ruthless and cunning," "a wildcard" that "has [the] capability to target U.S. forces and make it look like a Palestinian/Arab act."

Now WHO is it that you would term "antichrist"?

I could go on and on, but I haven't the time.

Not once did I state that I favor Islam.  You have quite a talent for putting words and ideas in someone's mouth.

Since your responses have become so fantastically maniacal, it is apparent that a rational debate is not possible.

I wish peace, love, and accountably for ALL.  I refuse to become a witless victim of the Hegelian Dialectical Process.  I am not interested in their phony "synthesis".  I won't egg on the game of mass death and destruction.

I do not support the President in any way, shape, or form.  But the Beast system is a global financial system that is largely already in place...and it is not being run by Muslims.

Effective debate is not conducted in seething, frothing hatred.

None of us know exactly how God's plans for the future will unfold.  But one thing is for sure:  He was, is, and always will be in control.  And that's all that really matters.

Peace.

...now what are you blathering on about there Dog Star for President? ''None of us know ''exactly'' how ...umm, >which< ''God's'' plans for the future will unfold'' are you talking about?  Is it the One prophetic revelation of our Father in Christ? I know I have trouble spelling my name but ''prophecy'' is clearly the ''exact'' revelation of the Whole ''plan'' that ''shall'' be fullfilled. Hey, umm, the prophetic revelation of God in Christ, that ''One'', lol, isn't there something about the blindness of people that know the plan but can't see the Summer Leaf on the Fig Tree etc..? ''Exactly'' what does that mean? Lol. Have yuh noticed on the map, Israel is a nation? Hey, imagine that, and in 2015 Jerusalem will have been a city in Israel for a Jubilee generation. Hmmm, something very prophetic and ''exactly'' fullfilled about that, if I recall, something about that generation not passing away until all these things be fulfilled. Lol. There would need to be some problems with the neighborhood around them part's too, lol, huh? Wonder, ''exactly'' what time that indicates, looking at the map today, lol, stuff in the plan, umm, playing out, umm, now? Lol. Awe come on, yer on Zero Hedge too, because you know the ''Beast system is a global finanCIAl system'' exactly defined in the prophetic plans. The good news has been preached throughout the whole world now too, and what do you think is left to preach in Jerusalem? Do you think the gentiles need to hear from someone like Elijah because the good news has not been preached? Exactly, lol, why would non Jews need to hear the same offer from anyone in Jerusalem in this exact generation defined in the prophetic plan? Lol. What's excatly up with the Old Test and Elijah coming back, and what's up with the good news about these two witnesses that lay dead in Jerusalem for three days, after telling the locals about Yahshua being the Messiah exactly? Come on.

Yeah, by the Mercy of Yahweh in Yahshua, I love you too. Yer grrreat. Peace, lol, what exactly are you talking about, when they cry peace and saftey? lol, and then sudden destruction comes? Lol. Yeah, umm, I'm at peace with that too. Yer a good egg, lol, try busting out of the shell, would yuh? Lol. Lighten up, lol. Oh I should lighten up, yeah, gotcha. Lol.

P.S. ...ever notice, when people curse and dash their foot upon The Stone they ''wish'' was removed, lol, they just don't limp away from it? Lol, they receive no ''mercy'' after, lol, just a mountain of the ''exact'' opposite. Lol. Yeah, man oh man, lol,  people sure are tempted to think they will not be found wanting. Who are those people anyway? Lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAj9DXGzPEM

Just because it is a nation with that name does not necessarily mean that it is the Israel of prophecy, does it? With a hexagram on its flag?

As someone who tries to practice Christianity, I thought that patience, watching what comes out of our mouths, and treating others as equal to or superior to ourselves were goals to attain?

Are you trying to give Christians a bad name or something? I know that this is fight club, but wow.

Your biblical knowledge is impressive. Did you miss the parts about patience and kindness, or is that just your way of being friendly?

Zer0head

just an NWO piece of shit

http://www.theglobalist.com/AuthorBiography.aspx?AuthorId=1139

Yup, Zer0head, I'd agree with that based on both.

Apparently, Claude Salhani hasn't come to terms with that the main reason beyond Keynesian success largely centers on the US Dollar being the world's reserve currency, and it's already difficult to hide inflationary pressures through account gimmicks. Once the world's reserve currency status firewall collapses, the US will not be likely remotely capable of supporting much of what it currently does.
Is Obama less likely to attack Iran with Israel? I think not; the only difference between those two Interventionist Expansionists was the rhetoric. Interventionism expansionism channeled as Hawkish or Dovish rhetoric remain interventionist expansionist.

Considering, Russia and China cannot afford to let the US and NATO simply remove the remaining obstacles from having a long straight shot into them with limited aid and along long borders; Russo-Sino is not likely to pursue cold war methods and allow their economies to outpace US and NATO. They'll continue their attack on the Dollar until the US, Israel, and NATO is forced to act or forces their hand. This is a geopolitical nightmare.

What will this administration do to amend the cataclysmic crisis that this travesty of captialism has engendered....as the role of a debased king dollar, the whole fiat derivatives and banksterised toxic cake,  that US Oligarchy rallies round, is a millstone around the world's neck.

2° The internal police state and the fake "war on terrorism", which is linked to the foreign policy addressed in 3. Bringing down the police state apparatus of Guantanamo and NDAA and drone policed kingdom is a necessity to give the american people back their freedom and to remove the rule of opaque power elites within the Republic, all hidden malign tumours  protected by crony political structures of extreme corruption.

3° The MIC/Petrodollar construct around the Oil patch, which supports regressionary, rabid islamic kingdoms and apartheid ISrael as new Templar state, to guard the sacred Oil patch; as here there is ONLY ONE RULE for western survival : THE OIL MUST FLOW!

4° The US geopolitical rebalancing to recognise that the world power equation has moved East from the Atlantic Alliance to the Pacific Rim making Chindia/Russia lynchpins of the global debate of this century. America has to adapt; as does surrogate Europe, by finding its own "lebensraum" as a vibrant continent at peace at home as with its neighbours; something it has NOT achieved in a thousand years of history! THIS INCLUDES MENA AND THE WHOLE AFRICAN CONTINENT, as new frontier territory where we respect human rights and local cultures, not wade in as neo-colonial agents of extractive empires.

The current outsourced, intercontinental, Oligarchy, capitalistic construct needs to be revised to take into account social, ecological and RM constraints that are now in critical zone. This 1% construct is no longer sustainable and will crumble. We need a middle class based market dynamics, spearheaded by innovative and entrepreneurial meritocracy world wide, that respects the Rubicons of social, ecological and RM constraints to which we MUST all sign up and adhere to in multilateral agreements, or our planet will implode. The Internet age and digitalised world will provide these tools, provided we keep  IT democratic and regulated against malpractices.

All these issues are part of the US's role of current world leader, hobbling on its broken legs of financial and monetary giant walking on USD hegemony crutches.

You have to addresss ALL these inconnected issues if you want to be top dog; or step down...

I don't see this administation doing it in any meaningful fashion as its deeply mired in its passed errors, incapable of stopping the ongoing and ever increasing rot.

Whatever Obama does or does not do, these issues remain, and the USA's role in tomorrow's world vitally depends on addressing them. America is a nation built on an ideal : being a leader, a beacon of human progress.

Lets hope IS hasn't morphed to WAS...

I can't believe ZH continues to let you post about the ME. You are totally clueless. Obama's handling of the Benghazi affair, his non-support of democratic reformers, his support of Al Quaida and the MB will only embolden enemies of the US and Western civilization in general. There will be MORE embassey / consulate attacks and more death to Americans from these barbarians. They will continue to undermine the constitution at home and Iran will get a pass since O's top advisor is Valerie Jarret, an Iranian and radical leftists who will do everything she can to weaken America's democratic influence in the ME. O will continue to support the suppression of free speech, both at home and abroad, when it comes to islam. His little gold ring doesn't say, "There is no god except allah," for nothing.

Many countries around the world wanted Obama to be re-elected over Romney.

A few wanted Romney over Obama. Some that happen to be located in muslim zone.

Apparently, they did not share the appreciation that they would get nothing more, only less from Romney.

"...until they come knocking at our doors as they did on September 11, 2001"

So the author is in denial about 9/11? He believes a smoky low-temp fire brought down those towers and not thermite explosives? I simply can't take anyone seriously who is in denial about 9/11.

I am thrilled to see a post of yours not about "mass arrests coming," one that I can wholeheartedly agree with.

I cannot take anyone seriously who will not declare that 911 was an inside job. It's hard for me to even consider anything else they say or write.

It's that important, and the official story is that ridiculously impossible.

LOL!  This article is complete crap.  It assumes Obama actually wants to do the right thing, or would be capable of doing the right thing if he wanted to.  He is beholden to powerful interests;  he's a puppet.  And he certainly doesn't have the best interest of America or the Middle East in mind.

two major MENA powers have gone from repressive, nationalist, but contained and controlled secular tyrannies to muslim bro and al quida powerbases on the road to the caliphate. a third country is being burned to the ground by western backed terrorists, with AQ assistance, and drone strikes continue in like four other countries, where popular resentment could boil over at any moment.

the author considers that non-involvement?

Those Terrible Scary Muslims.

Like the Terrible Scary Muslims who blew up the King David Hotel in 1946, killing 91 mostly British civilians.

Oh, but that wasn't Scary Muslims.  It was Jewish Terrorists, wearing Arab Garb.

Israel Did 9-11.

Why would Zero Hedge carry an Idiot like Salhani ?

Obama or Romney, it doesn't matter, the US will continue to aid and abet the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafis, and Christians throughout the Middle East will continue to increasely suffer (Coptic Christians are being crucified in Egypt, as reported in the Egyptian press with pictures). When the waterfall event happens later in this decade to the US (that many on this blog see ahead) I will have little sympathy left for either the US government or the US people.

It is apparent that this selection of author and article for Zero Hedge pages, because of its hidden agenda, was not selected for its independent observation. Quite the contrary.

For instance, cover credit goes to CLAUDE SALHANI for the Time Magazine Cover – American Jews and Israel | Mar. 10, 1975 – featuring a backdrop of the American flag – only the stars that represent the 50 states that accompany the stripes that represent the original 13 colonies have been replaced, now instead featuring the star of David . The cover is for sale by Time.
