Marc Faber's Asset Protection Plan: "Buy A Machine Gun", No Really, "You're Right, Buy A Tank"

Tyler Durden's picture

Trish Regan and Adam Johnson do their best to hold themselves together in this sublime rant by 'Gloom, Boom & Doom's Marc Faber on Bloomberg TV as he sees Obama's re-election as "very negative for the economy". From his view that the market should be down at least 20% - and maybe 50%, to the implied ignorance of both of the candidates, he believes fervently that the "standards of living of people in the western hemisphere will continue to decline." Faber views Obama's re-election as one of many unintended consequences of market manipulation (since Democrat attacks on the wealthy were 'enabled' by their profiteering from Bernanke's money printing) and sees the need to protect one's assets "with a gun, a machine gun... or perhaps a tank." He concludes with a stunner as he exclaims his view doubting Obama will make it through the whole four-year term because "there will be so many scandals" since "there is so much smoke, there must be some fire!"

The pre-amble is useful and well worth listening to as Faber describes exactly what is occurring in the world...

The good stuff begins around 7:30 as Faber goes Baumgartner... and gives the Bloomberg hosts a taste of reality we suspect they have not heard from their run-of-the-mill portfolio manager sheep guests...

Faber on President Obama’s reelection:

“I am surprised with the reelection of Mr. Obama. The S&P is only down like 30 points. I would have thought that the market on his reelection should be down at least 50%...I think Mr. Obama is a disaster for business and a disaster for the United States. Not that Mr. Romney would be much better, but the Republicans understand the problem of excessive debt better than Mr. Obama who basically doesn't care about piling up debt. You also have in the background Mr. Bernanke, who with artificially low interest rates enables the debt to essentially escalate endlessly.”

Onwhere he sees the equity markets given Obama’s reelection:

“You have offsetting factors. The problem with Mr. Obama is that you get more regulation and it’s disincentive for businessmen to hire people. You probably also get higher taxes, so in terms of the economy, he is very negative in my view. But you still have Mr. Bernanke, and you still have because of money printing very high corporate earnings. They are now coming down, but they are still at the elevated level. You have money printing supporting the market and on the other hand, you have an economic slowdown globally which will affect earnings negatively. It is difficult to tell where the market will go because we have so much manipulation. I think, minimum, it will drop 20%.”

On how investors should protect their assets:

“They should buy themselves a machine gun…I need to buy a tank. Joking aside, look, we have manipulated markets. Whenever you manipulate markets, you will get unintended consequences. i think the reelection is unintended consequence of money printing, that favors the so- called 0.25%. It was easy for the Democrats to attack the wealthy fat cats of Wall Street, the elite, and the privileged people to portray them as a profiteer of the system, which to some extent, they are. Not because they wanted to but because Mr. Bernanke enabled them to be profiteers. We have a situation where you have today Mr. Obama, I doubt he will stay at the presidency for another four years. I think there will be so many scandals, but that’s another story.”

On why he believes Obama won’t make it another four years as president:

“There is so much smoke. I suppose there is some fire. That is my observation. We don't know how the world will look in five years' time. I am pretty sure central banks will continue to print money and the standards of living for people in the western world, not just in America, will continue to decline because the cost of living increases will exceed income. The cost of living will also go up because all kinds of taxes will increase. Like Proposition 30 today in California is of course negative for the Californian economy. That is the state of the world. We have worsening economic conditions, but we have money printing.”

On Speaker Boehner’s comments to Congress today on the fiscal cliff:

“I am sure that they will solve it. They will increase cosmetically some taxes and they will cut cosmetically some spending and it will all be back loaded 10 years from now. So in reality, not much will happen. But the market tends to rally towards year-end, and i think from a low of around 1360, we could have a rally to January, but I think sometime next year will be again lower.”

On whether he sees the U.S. in recession in 2013:

“Yes, I think that if the figures were compiled properly. If nominal GDP was adjusted by a proper price deflator, we would probably already be in recession…But I would like to point out one thing about the economy. GDP is not a very relevant figure. It consists of many different sectors of the economy, so you can have some sectors that are improving like housing and others that are worsening.”

On his dollar and euro positions:

“This is the choice in life. You choose what is less bad. I don't particularly like Mr. Obama, but I think he is less bad for the world than Mr. Romney. It is a tragedy of life that both candidates did not lose the election. They would have deserved both to lose.”

Silly doomsday Sayers.  All this pray, repent the end is near, arm yourself, preppers.
So silly, things are under control, made to appear worse than reality by a great right wing news and information conspiracy which can only be fixed through censoring and if necessary closing down social media and the internet.
Food, fuel, clothing and recreational goods are plentiful and even in New York, there's been nothing of any major problems.  After all if something was wrong we'd have seen it on TV and even in the middle of all that, the fashion shows and birthday parties were in full swing.
We must begin to trust our honorable, trusted, elected public servants.  They do the right thing.  We are too critical of them.
We are in a new age of enlightened leadership, knowledgeable in all fields, wise and caring, prepared well to lead us through the dark, into the light of a new dawning of mankind, a dawning of peace, love, harmony and infinite riches of happiness.

This has been a paid announcement by a bat fuck insane liberal and I'm just passing it along.  I do not approve of these sentiments, have no empathy with them and kinda want to puke.  And now in the hell anybody can be led by people of whom we don't even have any information, everything being sealed, is just fucking beyond me.  Nothing wrong, my ass.  I'm letting my Economist subscription expire and have begun reading the National Enquirer.

Job candidate tells Bloomberg to ‘take this job and ….. ..’ over global warming cover

Dear Sir / Madam,
I write regarding my cancellation of attendance at the ‘Bloomberg Assessment Test’ that I was due to sit today (Weds 7th Nov 2012). I wanted to communicate my reasons for doing so.

As I am sure Bloomberg and its various holdings and affiliates hold potential candidates for employment to the highest standards, I also hold potential employers to similarly high standards, especially as – unlike many of the new graduates who will be applying via the BAT – I will be completing my PhD in the Philosophy of Computing having already had many years of gainful employment and a wide ranging skillset that would be attractive to a prospective employer such as Bloomberg. Indeed, I previously worked in the city as a qualified electronic trading systems consultant and have developed skills and experience since in both IT and research roles that would be valuable in city roles, should I choose to return to the finance and investment banking industry.

On November 1st, one of your holdings – ‘Bloomberg Business Week’ – published a highly misleading article, leading on the front page – ‘It’s Global Warming, Stupid’.  Had this article been written by a guest contributor, or represented a rare deviation from the content typically provided by this publication, I would have ignored it. However in this case it was written by assistant managing editor and senior writer Paul Barrett and continues a running theme in the publication for promoting unsubstantiated nonsense on the issue of anthropogenic global warming that appears intended only to maximise hysterical fear, uncertainty and doubt. The author constructed a narrative using such wildly inappropriate and factually untrue terminology as “Now we have weather on steroids,” – the kind of language that one might read and could be forgiven for thinking one was reading a satirical piece from The Onion or The Daily Mash.

And this;

You can throw away your tinfoil hat now. The mainstream media last week came out of the closet and had a real live Pro-Agenda 21 commercial on a mainstream media TV show.
I thought that was just a conspiracy theory. I guess I was bamboozled by the people who didn’t want me to know about it. I wonder what else they have in store for us.

Barack Obama's Win Brings a Cheer from the Liberty Campaign

It was obvious our write-ins would not cause Ron Paul to win, nor would our Gary Johnson votes put the former governor of New Mexico in the White House. Do you really think we wasted our votes? Never!

Just think about it, it is almost as if we strategically planned each and every move like professional chess players. We voted with our consciences, freely, for who we each believed would be the best president of the United States of America.

Those who voted for Johnson did so in hopes of getting a legitimate third party candidate in place. Those who voted for Paul felt he was the only one proven to turn this country around.

You see, those under the teachings of the "Champion of the Constitution" never wanted a Mitt Romney victory because freedom fighters are all about the future, and a Romney win could have set us back eight years. Not to mention that we do not trust a flip-flopper.

We have all been trained well as a mighty army, a rEVOLution to carry our red, white, and blue flags high and win the future back to make our founding fathers proud. We shall learn, we shall march, we shall lead the way as a younger generation grows up more enlightened than any ever before.

Many in the liberty campaign said, "I will not vote for the lesser of two evils," so we did not, and voted freely, individually. Thank you America for voting in Obama, our future is four years brighter than if Romney would have won.

"Those are NASA charts, and NASA charts don't lie like you."

Idiots are very good at misunderstanding / misinterpreting anything. As someone smart once said - human stupidity is infinite.

The only part of this that is interesting is the fact that morons like you will reject the scientific consensus but accept without qualms a blog funded by a lobbyist group and run by a former TV meteorologist.

An additional irony being that said blog takes material from actual climatologists - who accept the general consensus - and then Watts uses his own completely uninformed scientific analysis to come up with bullshit theories and the supporters of the blog eat it up and contribute their own nonsensical ideas to the conversation. At least Watts is paid to spout his nonsense, what's your excuse?

"At least Watts is paid to spout his nonsense, . . . ."

Watts isn't paid for his blogging. A Heartland document describes a request he made last year for funding for a different project:

"Anthony Watts proposes to create a new Web site devoted to accessing the new temperature data from NOAA’s web site and converting them into easy-to-understand graphs that can be easily found and understood by weathermen and the general interested public. Watts has deep expertise in Web site design generally and is well-known and highly regarded by weathermen and meteorologists everywhere. The new site will be promoted heavily at Heartland has agreed to help Anthony raise $88,000 for the project in 2011.  The Anonymous Donor has already pledged $44,000. We’ll seek to raise the balance."

Watts later reported on the progress of this project:

"Using the funds provided with the help of Heartland’s private donor, I hired a specialist programmer familiar with NOAA systems to trap and convert the NOAA sat feed data to look like any other hourly station (like ASOS hourly stations at airports etc) so that we’d be able to start the visualization and comparison process. This is just one phase of the project before it is ready for public consumption. When finished, there will be a website free and open to the public that will allow tracking and visualization of temperatures from the CRN right alongside that of the regular surface network"

Unfortunately for the consensus, Watts is far from being completely uninformed, and his supporters' ideas have some bite too. Take a look at the latest thread (as of four hours ago) on WUWT, where leading climatologist Kevin Trenberth's latest paper is taken apart:

Looking forward to that.  A lot of legitimate targets on both sides of the aisle.

What would be remotely possible are the so-called militia snipers, setting up stakes in NYC waiting on Bernanke, Demon, et al to set foot in open space.

The second amendment had NOTHING to do with hunting.

The right to hunt is a separate issue, which was actually enshrined in the Vermont state constitution of 1777, and passed on in the Pennsylvania state constitution of 1787.

I don't think the nigger is that dumb.  The big lie propaganda about "hunting" is an insidious red herring designed to validate dynamic interpretation (the "living" Constitution), whereas under ANY and ALL of the other methods of judicial interpertation (originalism, textualism, constructionism, etc.) the second amendment pertains to the right of Citizens to armed defense against encroachment of their other rights.

The right to bear arms has nothing to do with hunting. The right to bear arms is so citizens can defend themselves from an oppressive and tyrannical government. You might want to stock up on a gun or two cause the fight is fast approaching.

The strategy is sound, but the tactics are incomplete.  A modern military needs fuel, food and water to move.  There is a reason oil and gas pipelines are some of the first targets attacked in armed conflict, then there are the railroads, the destruction of which as a tactic date to the US Civil War.  If an oppressive military must allocate significant resources to defending supply lines, it has far fewer resources to deploy on the battlefield against those it seeks to oppress.  The force multiplication factor is further increased  in contemporary times due to the rise of the Nanny State, for once rail and oil arteries are severed significant additional forces are required to maintain the status quo amongst the oppressor's non-combatants (NYC post-Sandy is a perfect example).

This is exactly why the Al-Qaida 'terrorist' meme is so transparent. If they really wanted to inflict damage on the US, they wouldn't blow up airplanes full of citizens, which at best affects 300 some odd people, they'd go after pipelines in the US or Saudi Arabia.

A brief time-line of the citizen's militia right of defending themselves against oppressive and tyrannical government (which was familiar to all who debated authorized the Bill of Rights)

August 1786 – June 1787 Shays' Rebellion
March 4, 1789 – The Constitution becomes the law of US.
September 25, 1789 – Congress proposes Bill of Rights.
July 1791 - Whiskey Rebellion begins
September 11, 1791 Whiskey Rebellion gets violent
December 15, 1791 – Virginia ratifies the Bill of Rights (3/4 achieved, Bill of Rights becomes law)
September 15, 1792 Alexander (Spawn of Satan) Hamilton's presidential proclamation signed by George Washington
October 1794 - Whiskey Rebellion ends

Notice there was no debate about revoking or changing or the Second Amendment after two armed revolts against the Federal Government within a single decade.

The papers I linked to the other other day actually cover the foundation of the 2nd Amendment beginning with Aristotle and Cicero, but they are certainly not a complete substitute for the four books mentioned.

BELLEVUE, WA - Less than 24 hours after winning re-election, President Barack Obama's administration joined with China, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, and more than 150 other governments, in supporting renewed debate on the proposed United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, confirming the worst fears of the American gun rights community.

The vote came at the U.N. General Assembly's meeting of the First Committee on Disarmament at the world organization's headquarters in New York City.

"It's obvious that our warnings over the past several months have been true," said Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation. "The election was called about 11 p.m. Tuesday and by 11 a.m. this morning, we got word that the United States was supporting this resolution. We have to be more vigilant in our efforts to stop this proposed treaty."

SAF Operations Director Julianne Versnel, who has been back and forth to the United Nations over this proposal, said the fight is not finished. The measure will be considered for finalization in March 2013.

"We will continue to monitor this issue and oppose any effort to enforce a global gun control measure," she stated.

Amnesty International issued a statement Wednesday lauding passage of the resolution, saying the treaty will protect human rights.

"The right of self-defense is a human right," Gottlieb countered, "and in this country, the Second Amendment protects that right.

"Just days ago as he campaigned for re-election," he concluded, "Barack Obama told his supporters that voting is the best revenge.' I guess now we know what he was talking about. The revenge he seeks is against American gun owners and their Second Amendment rights."

The Second Amendment Foundation ( is the nation's oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control. In addition to the landmark McDonald v. Chicago Supreme Court Case, SAF has previously funded successful firearms-related suits against the cities of Los Angeles; New Haven, CT; New Orleans; Chicago and San Francisco on behalf of American gun owners, a lawsuit against the cities suing gun makers and numerous amicus briefs holding the Second Amendment as an individual right.

It's not hard, if you can follow a recipe, you can reload. I'd suggest a progressive press though, like the hornady. Check your loadings in 2 books, and you're good. Also, make sure your cases stay in spec, they stretch after each firing.

Thanks for the advice. I saw the Hornday presses and I think the other brand is Lee. I also read something about a tumbler with media so need to look into that. Thanks for the advice. Seems like it could be fun and I am sure cheaper when I go shooting at the range(which is on the levee at my house or in the woods).

Thu, 11/08/2012 - 01:25 | 2959513 SgtShaftoe
SgtShaftoe's picture

Lee is a lower end. If your budget allows, I'd do a dillon or hornady. Its way cheaper to reload too, if you've got some time on your hands. Hornady was doing a ton of free bullets when you bought a press. I got about a case (12 boxes) of .308 interlock and a bunch of others when I got mine, but I don't know if they're still doing that.

A lot of times you can scrounge brass off ranges floors for free, and I've used rifle brass over 9 times, and theoretically more with pistol brass. You just have to keep it trimmed (rifle).

saints51's picture

Never heard of a dillon. Will check it out. I didn't know Lee was the budget brand. Not knocking Lee at all. Will decide between a dillon or hornady and check to see if they have any specials like you caught. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks for the encouragement. You are a braver man than me although it sounds fun. I am terrified of sharks.

True story about me: We were running crab lines. 2 tomato sticks with some nylon string with loops every so many feet to tie the turkey necks. It was around dusk. Anyway had my wife with me running them. Well something bumped my leg. I swear I walked on water. I was gone. Once on the beach I was yelling at my wife to get out the water hehe. This was not my finest hour but my wife who loves water and is not scared of shit laughed her ass off. What bumped my leg was a flounder but I swore it was a shark out of panic. One of my greatest fears is sharks although I think they are one of the most fascinating animals on our planet.

Good story.  My diving hobby plan is still more of a joke than a reality at this point.  A comment on all of the folks who claim to have had "boat accidents" around here.

I do some reloading on an old second hand press, more to be ready/able to do it if necessary than to save money.    A couple of thoughts:  Work into heavier loads progressively.  Get a Lyman reloading handbook.  If you are precise with your work, you can make more accurate than factory ammo, especially if you invest in some of the better equipment the SGT recommended above.

Thank God we were ok and thank God I had the chain around the motor. Fuck it haha. I did some dumb shit in my younger days.
