There is a difference between a nation and an economy, and the people who exist, and thrive or wither, in both. However, over a course of time longer than a lifetime, there have been plenty of examples of Nation States rising from the ashes of decay.

Which is why the 24% unemployment rate didn't matter - they are getting paid not to work. Time for the producers to quit.
Established corporations want rules that block newcomers from competing with them. Poor want freebies. Both groups have great ways of influencing elections (funding campaigngs - voting in large numbers, predictably always on more "free" stuff). Eventually politicians have to compromise with both groups. At least successful ones, all the suckers that don't do it, simply loose.
When law is consistently written for these people you will always get larger and larger corpos and ever increasing welfare for the poor (and more "poor"). Though USA seems like really interesting instance. It just took off on some kind of overdrive to self-destruction. Decade ago it still seemed healthy enough for a democracy and now it is way past point of no return.
John Galt had invented a generator to power his world which unfortunately I do not have. So I will have to continue to have my productivity sucked away while I try to squirrel enough of it away into gold and silver to make it through whatever financial calamity awaits.

I'm looking at the top contributors for 2012 Presidential Election cycle. Very strange that Obama has no major banks at the top. Romney has all of them. Usually it is split 50/50. So I went back to 2008 and 2004. Any ideas why all the banks were on one side?

Doug Wead was correct when he spoke after Romney had clenched the republican primary, "There only way to the White House is through Ron Paul". The Romneyans, Levinians, Hannitians and the Limbaughians all chose to ignore Wead's prophetic words. They went head long into the convention and screwed the Ron Paul camp. They marginalized his followers, broke convention rules, and basically ruined their chances to unite the party. Epic fail.

Obama wins re-election which means our country has more takers verses makers. Healthcare, aka Obamacare, is here to stay. The New World Order by the elitist will usher in. Dumbing down Americans will continue. Unions, aka legalized mafia, will continue following Democrats thinking they're getting handouts. One day they'll realize their children and grandchildren will not get jobs because of their greed and demands on companies or governments. Just as Greece, Spain, Italy and the rest of Europe is today. They are broke, rebelling against austerity (aka free stuff), and spoiled to their handouts. Their mortality rate is much higher than the USA, as of this date. That will change due to Obamacare.
