Chart Of The Day: One Quadrillion Or Bust
Last night, Japan issued an update of its total public debt. The number was ¥983 as of September 30. Trillion. The bad news is that the long anticipated currency legend which will finally say "¥ in Quadrillions" is once more delayed. The good news, is that with the recently expanded BOJ QE8 and QE9, the excess monetization debt capacity, a lot of its going to sweep the aftermath of Fukushima under the rug, will promptly be filled, and we fully expect the December 31, 2012 debt update to finally bring us to the first instance of the word "quadrillion" used in the context of a modern, developed nation.

Its Fine.
time for a reverse split.
When is QE1...QE9, where is money come? If reverse split, government is come and withdrawal from citizenry bank account, no?
1 trillion to 1??
If you were to divide that into all the known .999 fine gold.....how much an ounce of gold would that be?
I asked myself that very question well over a decade ago. When I was done punching the keys on my calculator....I decided I'd better buy some of that crap.
Of course it's not all that impressive....they were practically giving the stuff away back then.
it how you look at it he.
For example:
For the US, it only took about 4 million ounces of gold to elect a president who spends a trillion to much a year for the next 4 years...
so to get to a quadrillion...
the US still needs a few more years to reach that goal.
so what does Japan has that America doesn't you say?
A FEW GOOD NUKES ON THEIR CAPITAL CITIES?
ANYTHING NUCLEAR WILL DO!!
GLOW BITCHEZ!!!
what's the matter with you guys?
It's only ONE....quadrillion.
...a single digit banker/sheeple reset number
Read your mind as I was surfing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_large_numbers
Its not really a problem till you get to quintillion. Buy.
It's not really a problem until the number gets too long to print on the note. Then, there are three options: 1. Go to scientific notation, 2. Use a smaller font, or 3. Lop off a few zeroes.
"Zimbabwe, Aug 2008, Gono ditched 10 Zero´s : Inflation was 516 Quintillion %"
-516000000000000000000 %
Yenrophenia.
Bullish on soylent pink.
128M people and 25% over 65 so roughly 100M current and future bagholders. $1Quadrillion in debt/100M bagholders...my calculator doesn't go that high..
It's *only* (lol ONLY) $12.4 trillion.
Sooner or later, we will be talking about alot of money!
A trillion here, a trillion there - it all adds up.
I thought Zillion came after Trillion. Hmmm. Learn something new every day. Thanks Tyler.
You sure it's not GA-zillion? Or BA-zillion?
Good point. You know what? I think you're right.
Somebody learned public school math.
A quadrillion is 1015
In chemistry 12 grams of pure carbon-12 contains 6.022 X 1023 atoms, and this number is used internationally to quantify amounts and concentrations of all kinds of things. It's called a mole.
So when we get to 1023 levels in a few years we'll have moles of debt to bitch about. The wordsmiths should have fun with that.
I remember an Offizer telling me: The Time is 1023 and you are under arrest...
Krugman just blew through the front of his pants like a howitzer.
HAHA. Great stuff. If only that was a headline.
Yen/silver 2950
can you imagine USD / silver at 2950
"can you imagine USD / silver at 2950"
--------------------------------
Yes, in fact I can. Fuk me that's a lot of Yen.
Yes, because the same thing is coming to America.
So what is the message here? is this what "winning" looks like?
Hold on.....I know this....it will come to me.
Part of the message...see: Kyle Bass
Living in the soon to be new country of Texas......word is Alabama is considering joining them.
The new motto is Red America.....we own everything. You can keep the rest of that crap.
So much for the 200 DAY In the ES CFDs. Trading 1370.45.
They just aren't printing fast enough. If they would only go with a biiiiiigggggg stimulas package then they could fix this problem.
What the heck happened in 2003? A brief moment of sanity?
That was ahead of the 2004 election season...
young japanese certainly do not have high hopes for the future : short video
Gyaru, yankii, manga, and visual kei subcultures are very much about disassociating from reality, creating virtual personas, dropping out of society, etc. What I try to wrap my head around is are these subcultures a result of the human mind rationally rejecting the Matrix, or rather like Cypher are they simply tired of fighting and apathetically want to be hooked back up again. I think the most likely answer is they simply don't like the version of the Matrix they are in, and want a different one. This is troubling, as it neuters any potential of an effective grassroots civilian reclamation of their government. Even more troubling, since it is our prologue.
Monster post.
So this is what it looks like at that point in Monopoly when one person has all the properties & hotels on each one... The only way out is to keep rolling 10's and bounce between JAIL & FREE PARKING...
A yen is about 1.2 cents. BFD.
If you priced our debt in pennies it would be huge-er too.
Off topic:
I wanted to let the denizens of ZH know that in addition to all the public service ZH does for the community a new and previously unknown feature has arisen. It turns out my children who are nearly impervious to all known forms of discipline will, when I threaten to read aloud from ZH, instantly comply with any parental demand. If their behavior is still somewhat balky, a nice ran squawk will always work its magic.
Thought you should know.
Is that how yOu make Ben and jp behave.
The good news is that the Japanese themselves won't need a new word for their debt until it gets to 10 quadrillion. Then they'll have to upgrade from "chou" to "kei"
Some of us speak as if this number matered. It does not matter. BOJ is one of the handfull of global central banks tied to the FED. No matter their numbers, none of these Central Banks (countries) will be allowed to be in trouble.
Uncle Ben will always provide whatever is necessary the keep the global financial system afloat. Can we all wrap our brains around this paradigm ??
Japan is just getting started. They are about to vote on another debt ceiling increase.
buy land or PMs. everything else will hit the shit.
It's like someone at the Bank Of Japan feel asleep at the keyboard for the last 20 years on CTRL-PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
Its funny ...I want to be in one of the central bankers meetings just to see how they legitimize these decisions...
I'd put on my quadrillion yen cap, but the printers told me there wasn't enough room for all those zeros on there.
Its only money, and they print it everyday in Denver.
So Japan proves the ponzi can be extended 9 times. I bid QE 10 will prove to be a charm
Quads are routinely used in discussing total US energy extraction and demand...
The Japanese people are every Governments wet dream. They only understand how to obey authority never questioning anything. They are the perfect slaves with no hope of a future.
What makes the future more interesting is that their industry is dying. Sony, Panasonic, Sharp etc are all in decline. Many more Japanese are going to be without work. Everything they were good at, S.Korea is now better at. Once they were suppose to rule the world, people use to say they are taking over America and soon they will own everything. Didn't really work out that way for them did it. Kind of sounds like China these days........
Are they going to print Quadrillion ¥ Bills?
According to George Bush debt is a good thing because it shows how much faith people have in the debtor.
My debt is bigger than yours.
Just think of all the fields in computer programs and databases that will now have to be expanded to accommodate a whole new order of magnitude.
You dusty old CICS programmers you should be licking your lips with anticipation...
Wonder what a Groupon coupon looks like in yen.
I'm jealous. I want my QE.
Yep, no more announcemnent unless its Xmas or Mew Years Eve.
"We owe (coughing and whisper) 1 trillion. ...Thank you and Hey look a UFO!!!"
(Meanwhile, somewhere in washington, little Ben is crying at getting 2nd place...)
As the number gets bigger a pertinent thought.
Is this a consequence of using computers where the reality of a long string of numbers actually becomes meaningless.
Here's my debt, know so because I wrote it down ...
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 ...
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.
Now punch that in your computer and send me an outstanding tax bill please.
Gives me a novel idea. If everybody declares their earning to be the above the economy is screwed as there is not that much fiat money in the world you bust the IRS and Bernake is instantly poor!
