Did Petreaus Betray Us (And If Not Us, His Wife... After The Election Of Course)

Tyler Durden's picture

Update, in which we find the true reason for the affair: Petraeus Won’t Testify on Benghazi Next Week, Senate Aide Says.  In other words, next time one is called to testify before a panel over the deaths of 4 people including one US ambassador, one just pulls the infidelity "get out of testimony" card and all is well.

A mere few days after the re-election of our president, CIA Director David Petraeus annoucnes his resignation:

Via AP:

David Petraeus has resigned as director of the CIA after admitting he had an extramarital affair.

According to his letter of resignation, Petraeus asked President Barack Obama on Thursday to allow him to resign, and on Friday the president accepted.

Petraeus said in a statement that he had shown "extremely poor judgment" in having an affair.

and From the Director of National Intelligence...

DNI STATEMENT ON THE RESIGNATION OF CIA DIRECTOR DAVID PETRAEUS

Today, CIA Director David Petraeus submitted his letter of resignation to the President. Dave’s decision to step down represents the loss of one of our nation’s most respected public servants. From his long, illustrious Army career to his leadership at the helm of CIA, Dave has redefined what it means to serve and sacrifice for one’s country.

Since he took over as Director in September of last year, he and I have worked together to tackle some of the most challenging issues faced by the Intelligence Community in more than a decade. Under his leadership, the CIA remained instrumental in providing our policy makers decision advantage through the best possible intelligence. I’m particularly thankful for Dave’s unwavering support and personal commitment to my efforts to lead the Intelligence Community and integrate our intelligence enterprise.

Whether he was in uniform leading our nation’s troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, or at CIA headquarters leading the effort to generate intelligence used to keep our nation safe, Dave inspired people who had the privilege of working with him.

I have spent more than five decades serving our country–in uniform and out–and of all the exceptional men and women I have worked with over the years, I can honestly say that Dave Petraeus stands out as one of our nation’s great patriots.

On behalf of the entire Intelligence Community, I thank Dave for his service, his support and his continued friendship.

Benghazi? That's what simpletons think is the scandal? 4 people died. No gives a fuck. They didn't want to pay to defend a hideout, the locals watched how little security there was and struck a weak target. It's probably the Libyan government that tipped the group off that it was weak. There's no fire here. This is the extent of it: A low value, weak target in a civil war torn Shithole.

Who knows why he's resigning. Maybe the guy is truly embarrassed and lost the respect of subordinates. I'd think you're at serious risk of being blackmailed as CIA director. It's not a way to live. Just own up to it and quit.

Petreaus made the big mistake a while back of talking about how our uncritical support of Israel's racist/apartheid policies in the OPT creates blowback and operational risk for US forces.  This set the table -   Benghazi comments were the bill.

Obama likely wanted the CIA, if not State to take the fall for Benghazi.  The dearly departed was running guns to Syria, he helps militia the local militia didn't like, and Bill Kristol and his crowd didn't like him because he was an 'Arabist.'

Take your pick.

Truth is no defense, nor is putting American security needs and goals first.   I'm not some wild-haired, coked up nut arguing that the jews are behind all ills - I'm arguing a small group of dedicated, ultra zionist right wings jews have largely hijacked the government.

Take the dick out of your ear, sweetie.

Getting wars going by deception of one kind or another is as old as the city-state, and the last century had several vivid examples accepted as such by historians.  In the case of Israel, it is not controversial that the Zionists bombed the King David Hotel, tried to set up the Egyptians in the Lavon Affair, and more disputedly, The USS Liberty incident - and I would argue that it's possible, perhaps even probable that 9/11 was a "false flag" run using some Arab patsies by elements of the US government [CIA and the usual suspects in the Pentagon] and the Israeli [very much including Bibi and Ehud - and if you youtube interviews with those two Zionazi cunts, you should feel your stomach squirm a little].

I'd bet most of your socks have cum stains, and I'd bet Ehud Barak and Bibi Netanyahu were intimately involved in running the 9/11 operation, along with their good pal Silverstein.

O'Neill had some friends.

p.s. Just because you're paranoid doesn't necessarily mean they aren't {sometimes} after you - and just because there are a bunch of shitstains that blame the Jews when Arby's forgets their extra pickles, doesn't mean Likudnik Zionists aren't planning for a Greater Israel, plan to use American blood and treasure and diplomatic cover to do it, and have many, many sayanim agents in the US government doing their bidding.

But what do I know - all that one needs to know about global intelligence networks and geopolitics is gleaned from majoring in economics and learning how to trade futures, right, honey?

If obama wanted him to resign, Petraeus would have just said "i'm spending time with my hot wife and grandkids".

Since he admitted an affair, what a joke for a CIA director, he was obviously pissed and was threatened by obama.

They *might* leave him alone, but technically, it's not like quitting the job "automatically" gets him out of testifying.

Congress (and law enforcement) can subpeona anyone at any time.  Doesn't matter where you are NOW--it only matters what you were doing when the investigated events took place.

I guess it's possible you're correct, but I'd be surprised if his understanding of the subpoena process is as poor as yours.

He is to damn dumb to understand what the water creeping up around his ass means. Ya'll don't look for any "Senate" hearings on Bengahzi either. Nothing will happen, just like nothing happened after Fast and Furious became public knowledge.

Lockheed Fires Incoming CEO After Inappropriate Relationship - Business Insider

Two down, whose Next?

Kaiser Sauzee has a Matahari working for him!

The plan is to take out the whole frigging MIC; on infidelity!

See the dominoes fall! This is better than Greece and Club MED Piigs!

Benghazi blues run deep, and senate hearings require that Omerta be observed.

PS : Matahari Paula Broadwell worked for the CIA. Read this (comment in BI article) :

Broadwell offered her body to Petraeus as ( safe CIA insider sex) in a classic Honey Trap. She recorded it and when it became clear he might spill the beans on Benghazi she burned him. First unacceptable statement on Libya and a tame official or journalist asks him about the sex. He has resigned instead.
First move was to compromise him on tape for possible future use like killing a run for President. However the leverage was used first here. Hopefully General Petraeus values his life (retired) and will say nothing.

when the CIA loses its boss its deep stuff, and when the senate wants a canary to sing it gets mysterious. <SO the insight comes not from looking under the bed but from getting a libyan eunuch to testify in his place.

"How did u lose your nuts in Benghazi?"

"I got laid by the CIa in retaliation."

"How much does it cost to kill a US ambassador?"

"Depends whose paying, Q-daffy's ghost or Putin's host."

"So who was it?'

"Maybe a friend of the Syrian. Ya know that they got Q-daffy by stalking his phone when Q rang him. He wanted payback."

"So what r u saying the CIA screwed up again? After the weapons loss to Al Qaeda they lost our ambassador?"

"Well I don't know. All I know is they cut mine off!"

"You'll get a new pair courtesy of CIA if ya talk."

"I'd rather stay silent. Last time the CIA gave a guy his pair back it blew up in his face on the plane home."

"Your'e discharged."

"Can I get my pair back?"

"Nope but we'll give you R&R in Colorado and a week on free hash there."

Now hows that for thought provoking? Much better than Fox news wouldn't u say?

Only on ZH! Promise!

The obvious answer is that he was set up because he failed to take the blame for Bengazi.

Doesn't anyone else remember the administration officials shifting blame to faulty intelligence to CYA.

Petreus quickly stood his ground for his people and now he is paying the price. Sex scandals are the weapon of choice for the left when all else fails.

Next up, in his shame, he will kill himself and America can move along confident that Petreus not only failed his wife, he failed America by not offering his commander and chief timely sound advice.

Obama will offer a stiring eulogy at his funeral.

You are an idiot.  Sex scandals are the weapon of choice for the opposition when all else fails.

Ken Starr pushed the idiotic "Monicagate" investigation all the way to Clinton's impeachment.  Everything of importance going on was put on hold for months and months while the country fixated on whether or not there was enough presidue on a blue dress to get DNA readings.  Clinton's opposition couldn't nail him on anything else that would have enough impact, so they went the "sex scandal" route.  You saying Ken Starr is on "the left"?

It's Ike Eisenhower and Kate Summersby all over again, and it goes back some years (i.e. old evidence, outed when convenient):

[Paula Broadwell] spent much of the past year in Afghanistan as an embedded author, building upon her previous two-year pursuit of a doctoral dissertation: a study in transformational leadership and organizational innovation influenced by U.S. Army General David Petraeus.  Her work culminated in the book, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus (with Vernon Loeb), which examine Petraeus’s career, his intellectual development as a military officer, and his impact on the U.S. military.

Broadwell's passion for leadership and security policy stems from her background in the U.S. military and her academic pursuits. She graduated with academic and leadership honors from the United States Military Academy at West Point. She has lived, worked, or traveled in over 60 countries during more than 15 years of military service and work in geopolitical analysis and counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations. She has completed assignments with the U.S. intelligence community, U.S. Special Operations Command and an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.

She practically outed herself with the fawning biography.

I'm more inclined to think he resigned because of a 'Broken Arrow' plot that got found out.

Today, Rear Admiral Charles M. Gaouette was “fired” from his command of one of the three carrier battle groups back to Bremerton, Washington to face an investigation.

It is impossible to adequately state how unusual this is and how serious.

The Navy was clear that the charges had nothing to do with his personal conduct, no rape or sexual misconduct, no stolen money, no drug use, the things that usually bring down careers in the Navy, that and crashing ships into each other.

Gaouette was sent back because the Secretary of Defense found him unfit for command, sent him across the world in the middle of one of the largest combat exercises in history, one both timed prior to an election and one at a critical location, near the Straits of Hormuz in the Persian
Gulf.

Gaouette commanded nearly one third of the Naval and air combat forces in the region.

The decision was made based on a conversation with the Secretary of Defense who, at the end of the talk, believed Gaouette was part of a group of military officers who have been under suspicion for planning a “Seven Days in May” type overthrow of the US government if President Obama is re-elected.

This is not conjecture, dozens of key officers face firing, hundreds are under investigation, all with direct ties to extremist elements in the Republican Party and the Israeli lobby.

Reports received are sourced at the highest levels of the Pentagon and indicate that the administration has been aware of these plans for months.

While Russian MIC tightens the screws, the US MIC screws the tight butts of its female recruits.

Since this thread necks down to one word columns at many points because of replies to replies to replies, I don't know if this has been covered here before and will state what seems somewhat obvious to me.

The mission to find and destroy arms in Libya was most likely a CIA mission to find and destroy some arms and ship others to Syrian rebels via Turkey. This is the kind of thing the CIA has done many times in the past - move arms from somewhere a conflict has just ended to somewhere else with an ongoing conflict.

When Benghazi was hit, the high level CIA leadership probably assumed that it could easily have been a highly professional Syrian or Syrian/Iranian response to the arms smuggling, was afraid of a Blackhawk Down style ambush, and didn't send help because of that and to minimize the overall casualties in the conflict to limit as much as possible any news coverage.

The reason even Hillary didn't get the info she wanted from Petraeus was because he was hiding (or providing the excuse that he was hiding) this potentially politically damaging info from the Obama administration prior to the election.  Now that Obama has been reelected and his administration knows the truth (assuming they didn't know it before the election), it's time for Petraeus to leave one way or another and the affair excuse is the least politically damaging, acts as a diversionary tactic and is the least likely to lead to further questions about Benghazi.

Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is about giving the rebels arms since Syria is Iran's closest and last ally in the Middle East.  But, of course, during the campaign, the Reps could have used it in an attempt to damage Obama although there would have been plenty of Reps who would have, like me, looked upon this action in a positive fashion and, in fact, supported the Obama administration for doing it.  This is probably why the Rep higher ups and their media lapdogs didn't press hard on this.
