Kerry, John Kerry: Defense Secretary

Tyler Durden's picture

Just when the newsflow surrounding America's military-industrial complex couldn't get any more surreal, and on Veterans day on top of everything, here comes the WaPo with news that virtually assures all defense companies should open limit up tomorrow: "President Obama is considering asking Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David H. Petraeus." That's right: John "Swiftboat" Kerry, the same John Kerry who accused Vietnam vets of committing war crimes; the same John Kerry of the whole military service controversy.

More "Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations." As to Petraeus, who may or may not testify over the Benghazi affair, but apparently is excused due to his familial infidelities, and whose sexual dalliances were (not) ironically captured best by The Onion, his replacement is also becoming clear: "John O. Brennan, Obama’s chief counterterrorism adviser, is a leading contender for the CIA job if he wants it, officials said. If Brennan goes ahead with his plan to leave government, Michael J. Morell, the agency’s acting director, is the prohibitive favorite to take over permanently. Officials cautioned that the White House discussions are still in the early phases and that no decisions have been made."

WaPo continues:

Rice, one of an inner circle of aides who have been with Obama since his first presidential campaign in 2007, is under particular fire over the Benghazi incident, in which the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed.

Some Republican lawmakers have suggested that she was part of what they suspect was an initial, election-related attempt to portray the attack as a peaceful demonstration that turned violent, rather than what the administration now acknowledges was an organized terrorist assault.

Rice’s description, days after the attack, of a protest gone wrong was either intentionally misleading or incompetent, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday. Rice, he said, “would have an incredibly difficult time” winning Senate confirmation as secretary of state.

But several White House officials said Obama is prepared to dig in his heels over her nomination to replace outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Rice’s post-Benghazi remarks on several television news shows were merely a recitation of administration talking points drawn directly from intelligence available at the time, said the senior administration officials, who agreed to discuss the closely held transition planning only on the condition of anonymity.

While the "cons" of Kerry in charge of US defense are quite obvious to everyone, the "pros" is undeniable: Kerry will soon be given the chance to talk any and all US enemies, foreign and domestic, if not to death then certainly to near comatose state.

Kerry is a shill for corporatists, and he is a college boy brat who believes everything he was told, and he has had NO experience of the world beyond his own arse....and the money of his wives. Mossad knows that he is an 'educated fool' and 'useful idiot'.

Can't let Kerry pass by without slipping one of my knives through his ribs...metaphorically ;-)

"As a member of the Senate Finance Committee's Subcommittee on Health, Kerry played a key role in shaping President Obama's healthcare reform legislation in 2009 — while also raking in cash from healthcare investments.

Here's how he did it, according to Schweizer:

  • As passage Obamacare seemed more likely, Kerry bought nearly $750,000 in Teva Pharmaceuticals stock, one of several big drug companies that benefitted from the health care bill. When the bill was signed in 2010, the Kerrys sold some of their Teva shares, making tens of thousands of dollars in capital gains. They kept more than $1 million worth of Teva stock.
  • In 2009, the Kerrys also picked up shares in ResMed, a medical device manufacturer that was a big winner in the healthcare reform battle. In early versions of the bill, medical device companies would have been subject to higher taxes. Kerry opposed the taxes, and the fees were much lower in the final version. ResMed's stock rose 71% when the bill was passed.
  • The Kerrys also invested in hospital supplier Thermo Fisher Scientific, a major beneficiary of the healthcare bill. The stock jumped 40% after Obamacare passed.
  • At the same time, the Kerrys dumped all of their investments in the health insurance industry, including shares in United Health and Wellpoint. Needlesstosay, healthcare providers were the biggest losers in Obamacare.

Schweizer notes that Kerry has been cashing in on inside information about the healthcare industry since long before Obamacare:

But ZeroHedge is sounding more andmore like a Republican echo chamber by the day. Swifboats, really? Fuck.

Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen it here. This is such an open and shut case and it's so obvious. WTF? This man risked his life in real war, one of the worst for american soldiers, and he is mocked that his wife is the pants bearer in the family? And you supposedly read "War is a Racket", especially the Chapter THREE - "Who Pays the Bills?". Here is an excerpt:

"Boys with a normal viewpoint were taken out of the fields and offices and factories and classrooms and put into the ranks. There they were remolded; they were made over; they were made to "about face"; to regard murder as the order of the day. They were put shoulder to shoulder and, through mass psychology, they were entirely changed. We used them for a couple of years and trained them to think nothing at all of killing or of being killed. Then, suddenly, we discharged them and told them to make another "about face" ! This time they had to do their own readjustment, sans [without] mass psychology, sans officers' aid and advice and sans nation-wide propaganda. We didn't need them any more. So we scattered them about without any "three-minute" or "Liberty Loan" speeches or parades. Many, too many, of these fine young boys are eventually destroyed, mentally, because they could not make that final "about face" alone. In the government hospital in Marion, Indiana, 1,800 of these boys are in pens! Five hundred of them in a barracks with steel bars and wires all around outside the buildings and on the porches. These already have been mentally destroyed. These boys don't even look like human beings. Oh, the looks on their faces! Physically, they are in good shape; mentally, they are gone. There are thousands and thousands of these cases, and more and more are coming in all the time. The tremendous excitement of the war, the sudden cutting off of that excitement -- the young boys couldn't stand it.

That's a part of the bill. So much for the dead -- they have paid their part of the war profits. So much for the mentally and physically wounded -- they are paying now their share of the war profits. But the others paid, too -- they paid with heartbreaks when they tore themselves away from their firesides and their families to don the uniform of Uncle Sam -- on which a profit had been made. They paid another part in the training camps where they were regimented and drilled while others took their jobs and their places in the lives of their communities. The paid for it in the trenches where they shot and were shot; where they were hungry for days at a time; where they slept in the mud and the cold and in the rain -- with the moans and shrieks of the dying for a horrible lullaby."

Something is really sick in this picture.

his antiwar activity (which i much appreciated at the time) began after he returned to the u.s. and was not well received by the country's rulers at the time.

neither strikes me as lack of backbone.

The way I understand it, is there is no federal funding mechanism in the federal law as passed, the federals assumed the states would just roll over.

http://healthreform.kff.org/en/state-exchange-profiles/florida.aspx

An unfunded mandate...unconstitutional and the House is not going to be in a hurry to fix Pelosi's mess. Am I missing something?

From what I understand, they didn't put the federal funding mechanism for the state exchanges into the law.

Properly written law, has intent & purpose and funding to achieve the intent and purpose.

At the federal level, they've gotten used to socialistic edicts and mandates...the really feel good political stuff...reality is a puffed up, botoxed bitch ;-)

Wow. Read this. I've been waiting to see how applicability of the law folds out and  I haven't seen anything yet, but now I'm seeing the opposite.

I've been telling to my fellow canadians: Gov medical care for 30 million people is one thing; gov medical care for 300 millin people is extremely quite another thing  as far as applicability is concerned.

I've always thought it'd be impossible to apply it. The country is just too, too, too big for gov medical care.

Thank you kindly for the link.

In FL, Amendment 1 would've banned the gov from requiring that Floridians purchase health ins. and would've prevented FL government from requiring this in the future.

So, it didn't pass.  If the feds require that we all jump on the Obama health train...well, I'll likely be non-compliant.  It is unconstitutional.
