So, the prudent investor buys farmland, and a gun shop...???
They buy Gold, Silver, and Lead. You can't hide Farmland or avoid paying taxes on it or keeping the government from simply taking it away from you and handing it over to someone else.
RULE .308:
Leave me and my stuff alone, and I'll leave you and your stuff alone.
Rule .308 can be superceded by by Item 6: Level IV Stand Alone Plates

Item 6
Get a shot off fast. This upsets him long enough to let you make your second shot perfect. -- Robert Heinlein
Heinlein wrote that when the fist shot was usually a long DA trigger pull that most shooters never master.
Today, your own bullets are still frequently the best cover, but the pros teach us to make every shot count, especially the first one, then second sight and keep pressing the trigger until the threat is stopped. If the bad guy keeps coming, maybe he is wearing body armor and it is time to move to the Bravo zone.
Can you get the hit to the cranial vault, while both you and the target are moving, under stress, in low light, before he kills you or your loved one?

Item 7
Complete the following courses in this order:
1. One half-day tactical folding knife class; $150.
2. 2-3 weekends of Tactical Pistol Courses; $1,000.
3. 2-3 weekends of Tactical Rifle Courses; $1,000.
4. One day of Self and Family Emergency Medical Aid/Trauma Kit Course; $150.
5. A series of several two-hour self-defense classes (not martial arts classes); $200.
6. Fulfillment of requirements for concealed handgun permit; $250.
You should learn in these classes how to safely conduct dry-fire training with your firearms and a dummy knife. Do this on a regular basis, such as once per week for at least 5 minutes.
I can't believe Dianne (I have a conceal carry permit and carry a gun but you can't, slave) Feinstein's new Assault Weapons Ban has a no-grandfather-clause, i.e. turn in your semi-auto's or they come and get them.
Will Dianne be coming to my residence to personally pick them up?
I am not exactly sure what an "assault weapon" is, but when your home is being assaulted by four armed men do you not want an assault weapon to defend your self, family, and property?
An assault weapon is a scary-looking gun and is usually black. That's all you need to know.
I'll take "Things that Michelle Obama Has in Common With" for $1,000, Alex
Uh oh!

hedge-less,
I am not exactly sure what an "assault weapon" is.
Well, one more time, I will post what it MUST BE EXACTLY to qualify as an ASSAULT WEAPON.
ONE- It MUST fire in TWO MODES- FULLY AUTOMATIC, and SEMI AUTOMATIC.
TWO- IT MUST use an Intermediate powered rifle round( lower power)
( NOT a full powered round, like 30-'06, 300WM, or 308, 7Rem Mag etc,etc,etc.
All these news reports about sales of AK 47's going thru the roof are BS.(50% is done thru MSM Stupidity, and the rest is disinformation).
It may LOOK like an AK 47, BUT it is not, because it cannot be fired FULLY AUTOMATICALLY.(It's a Clone).
Just like ALL copies of the M16's, semi/fully auto, or 3 round bursts.(and ammo must be the INTERMEDIATE round.
Same criteria goes for handguns,( Semi/FA) there are NO FULLY AUTOMATIC handguns for sale or in use by civilians in the USA.
Only one company I know of even makes one, and that is GLOCK, a model 18.(not avail in this country except to special individuals/agencies).
NOT available for sale to ANY private individual.
Just LE, Mil, and certain Dealers as samples.( and damn few LE can carry them.)
NO NEW MACHINE GUNS< or PISTOLS have been allowed into the USA since 1986, nor are they legal to be produced(except by Special Dealers).
Unfortunately, Americans aren't allowed to have real assault weapons anymore.
Fuck you, FDR, William Hughes, and Charlie Rangel! I hope you three rot in hell!
No, she will hire someone else's kid (paid with stolen money) to die for her ideas; same as all the other gutless, freedom-hating control-freaks have done through the centuries.
I am really surprised to not have already seen this quote on here by now, so I will provide.....
"Not only ought the people be armed and disciplined but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a state of independence from any who might choose to abuse them, which would include their own government." George Washington
"Necessity is the excuse for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of the tyrant and the creed of the slave." - William Pitt, 1763
I think the founding fathers really did say all that was needed in this regard. And for the idiots in our midst, they said it over and over again in different ways.
Final Thought:
“Unjust laws exist: shall we be content to obey them, or shall we endeavor to amend them and obey them until we have succeeded, or shall we transgress them at once?” – Henry David Thoreau
Yeah, the 'pros,' lol.
You know how I know you're a Walter Mitty type? You use phrases like "press the trigger" and "cranial vault" which means you've been blowing money on stupid training classes taught by idiots who want to make a buck. Of everything on the list, a real self-defense class might be the only thing worthwhile, but even that is pretty dubious. And what makes you think that if society begins to break apart that concealed handgun permits will still be valid at all? They're the first thing that will get revoked, but you'll still carry a handgun anyways. As a rule, anything using the word 'tactical' is a complete waste of time and money, especially if you happen to be overweight.
Ormaybe he's a pro trying to help out those of us who care, Asshat.
maybe maybe not. for the non pros: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Mitty
I somewhat agree but with a a well prepped .308, 30-06, 300 Winchester magnum, etc. you can take targets down vest or not and the best part is they can't see you ;)
The plate in that picture is ceramic. Multi-hit rated for 30-06 AP. You can shoot it all day long and not break it.
So I aim elsewhere, and you're still out of the fight right now.
Did you happen to notice how little that plate covers?
I think that is what he meant.
Any decent rifleman could hit the Adam's Apple off of Ann Coulter from inside of 300 yards with a rest.
pods
The human brain naturally points/aims at center mass, and that is where most of the vital organs are located, but you know all of that pods.
Don't get me wrong, I would much rather be wearing that than not. But every defense system has it's flaws.
pods
Coffee out of nose, pods
That is why I said I somewhat agree...I can shoot almost anywhere I want depending on the weather and even if they are not taken down they will not get up after a well placed round.
Pretty sure that none of those plates can be shot "all day long" and not degrade.
Ceramic plates aren't rated for multiple hits, only steel (T-1 or A-715 or similar) is. But steel is heavy.
These are stand alone (no supporting vest required) ceramic plates that are rated for multiple hits by 30-06 armor piercing, which is why they are the ones everyone wants.
have two of them! :-)
Can't afford it hedgeless. Guess I'll just hang a stolen manhole cover around my neck.
I bet it doesn't stop the .300 magnum.
Over 500 children every year are killed in firearm accidents. It is absolutely shameful that zerohedge commenters promote the distribution of dangerous weapons. We are living in the 21st century, and it's time that this country introduced a ban on firearms. There is simply NO NEED to carry a firearm when you have a well-trained professional police force ready to protect you on call 24/7. Why should the majority of sensible progressive Americans have to endure this danger of firearms just so silverbug rednecks and raving hillbillies can have some fun?
You're too kind MDB, clearly these people are domestic terrorists and should be deeply investigated by Homeland Security with multiple fingers.
I greened the both of you nutcases, because I recognize good sarcasm when I see it. Keep it up.
Over 500 children every year are killed in firearm accidents
~~~
I'm glad to see you now discourage the use of Predator Drones & Obama's "kill list"... Finally! a breakthrough...
now wait a minute. that kill list is maintained by the commander in chief; in today's world the top law enforcement (well enforcement at any rate) officer in the country. sometimes one has to destroy the village to save the village. the gentleman taught constitutional law; he should know best.
I'll take a 10 finger Happy Meal.
And remind Janet not to take off her rings
And this year’s ZH Oscar for non-supporting actor is...envelope please...MDB.
Well done! You keep cracking us up!
MDB gets Oscar for top notch sarcastic actor, without knowing his true intention.
Pedophiles need a good release of their pent up frustrations and Homeland Security and TSA provide them a nice healthy outlet for their needs.. I know that me AND my family are happy to assist these brave men and women
This silverbug redneck loves to snack on some tasty MDB before the evening meal.
Got ammo?
:)
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. -- Unknown
argh i fell for it again
Over 5000 children every year are killed in motor vehicle accidents. It is absolutely shameful that zerohedge commenters promote the widespread use of dangerous motor vehicles. We are living in the 21st century, and it's time that this country introduced a ban on personal motor vehicles. There is simply NO NEED to use a personal motor vehicle when you have well-trained professional public transportation ready to service you on call 24/7. Why should the majority of sensible progressive Americans have to endure this danger of motor vehicles just so soccer moms in gas-guzzling Escalades and cellphone-addicted idiots on (sporadic) autopilot can have some fun?
I wouldn't worry about it "AK"... Pretty soon ~ the cars will just drive themselves... Instead, we're going to start outlawing rattlesnakes to save our teens...
I'm calling it:
Medical Bill (to the taxpayers) = $8 million
akak: Since you can only *legally* vote once, I did just so for your comment.
Still, in my heart I'd like to give you at least a +30.
Whilst we are at it, let's get rid of rape by banning pricks!
Agreed ... just get rid of the cars.
The auto industry bankrupts the world ...
Tell that to the people in NJ trying to defend themselves against looters. The police just want to disarm you and then search around to see if they can find something "illegal" How do you control a moral man? You make everything illegal so they he had no choice but to break the law.
Jersey,now theres a police state.
500,hmm.I wonder how many are killed by unfit parents,auto accidents,obesity,just plain goofin around and careless.
http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/907304-nhs-health-and-safety-chiefs-ban-dan...
I feel safer now that the social problem of paper clips is solved.
The problem with those numbers are, only 50 children die of firearm accidents, the other 450 are murders. Child firearm deaths are far fewer than the number of children that die in toilet or bucket drownings, and less than 1/4 the number of children that die of ingesting poisons from under the sink. And that's 1/100th of the number killed in auto accidents each year.
If you REALLY want to do something for children, then advocate for child-proof cabinets latches and putting the toilet seat down, or banning CARS - you can save many more thousands of children each year than by banning firearms.
And firearm ownership is guaranteed by the second amendment. Molone Lave. So Fuck You.
1,210,000 children are aborted each year. USA alone!!
Even with full auto assult rifles that would be one hell of a number to beat.
MDB: You're going to make someone a fine mate when TSHTF.
...and how many drown? How many are killed by their own family members?
MDB, just for you. This comes courtesy of a real patriot, Samuel Adams. Bow your thieving ass down and lick the head turd's hands. Your patriotic american, Sam Adams, demands it.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty,
the tranquility of servitude
better than the animating contest of freedom,
go home from us in peace.
We ask not your counsels or your arms.
Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you.
May your chains set lightly upon you,
and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”
MDB, you're dry humor just busts me up! Thank you again for the laughs!
This is sarcasm, right? Most cops can't hit the broad side of a barn.
Statist rule # 1
You leave my stuff alone, but I want your stuff and Im going to vote for someone who will use force to take what is yours and give it to me.
We will soon see which rule (.308 or Statist Rule #1) will prevail.
That resembles my ex-wife's rule: "What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine."
You can't lose farmland in a boating accident...???
I have a friend who has done just that. Owned a gun shop for thirty years and four years ago bought a farm in the country. Now he's raising chickens and loving those eggs.
I'd say yes on the farmland (despite being a huge bubble), no on the gun shop... too thin of margins on the gunshop and not enough cash transactions given form/reporting requirements for firearms. At this point in time, there is always some e-tailer liquidating the exact gun you're looking to buy at a price lower than your local store can get it from the wholesaler... the instant there is any conscientious consumption in this arena, it will be curtains for a lot of shops.
He's looking to sell out at cost of goods. The ATF has hounded him mercilessly over nothing. He had an original shoulder stock for the broomhandle Mauser which ATF made him saw in half. To this day I see functional reproductions of that stock for sale online from mainstream retailers.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/reproduction-mauser-broom-handle-s...
The day after the re-election, the administration went back to work supporting the U.N. treaty to install a global gun restriction.
The ATT is a small part of larger game, but the the threat to 2nd amendment rights is real, especially if unconventional judicial interpretation spreads. From something I posted earlier-
THE TYRANNY OF THE MAJORITY OF CURRENT NATION STATES EXPLICITLY SEEK TO PUT THE UNITED STATES "IN ITS PROPER PLACE" THROUGH THE TERMS INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT MAJOR MULTILATERAL TREATIES UNDER NEGOTIATION.
The consequences of this broader ignorance of international law by Americans will be extremely expensive for all Americans. The fight right now is to extend the canon of jus inter gentes to include the ATT. The issue of granting supra-national taxing authority to the Secretariat (where the US has no veto) has been dropped from the formal discussions of the treaty, but the dependent financial organ suspiciously remains in the treaty text, which can be amended by simple majority consent. The doctrine of living tree judicial interpretation is being simultaneously advanced in the United States, which would serve as a basis for reinterpreting the Supremacy Clause to render Reid v. Covert a moot decision.
Once this goal is achieved the Durban plank of UNFCCC can be implemented (TPTB are hoping that they don't have to postpone the current 2015 deadline). In short, while roughly 50% of Americans want Obamaphones and 50% of Americans think Obamaphones are an Obamination, they can both look forward to collectively footing the bill for well over 6 billion foreign Obamaphone recipients. The fool who thought Obama was going to pay her mortgage is going to be in for a rude awakening when she finds herself having to pay for Obama's half-brother's mortgage, but such is the cost of ignorance of the development of international law.
All the more reason to keep the fillibuster around in the Senate.
The chart is a little miss leading. But Look at a 4 year graph. SW is up, and yes its up since the election. (only 10% :-) everything else is down 3%)
What I am trying to say is... I am supporting; 3 new toys!
And I thank you for that support.
And the NRA and the gun makers laugh all the way to their daily Brinks drops again. They supported the only one of the two that has actually taken anyone's guns away with Romney's assault weapons ban in Mass.
Then they spook stupid gun owners into thinking Obama would take their guns, after scaring those same stupid people four years ago and seeing him make no mention of guns at all during his entire first term!
Who said you can't fool all the people all of the time? You gun buyers are a real study. Gullibility is not a virtue, you know?
Demand your Senators oppose gun control in all forms during the lame duck session of Congress: 202-224-3121.
Right now, members of Congress are settling back into their offices in Washington, D.C.
They’re shaking hands, patting each other on the back and discussing last Tuesday’s election results.
But in a small room in the Capitol, a handful of Senators and lobbyists are scheming, putting the finishing touches on their strategy for the lame duck session of Congress.
This meeting isn’t for the purpose of finding ways to expand your freedoms -- it’s to determine how to restrict your gun rights.
Anti-gun Democrat Senators Dianne Feinstein, Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid are there.
Representatives from the anti-gun Brady Campaign and Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Guns are also in the room.
They may have even invited long-time Republican gun-grabbing Senators John McCain, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe knowing they’d “compromise” your gun rights away if the deal is just right.
Of course, the lame duck session also offers the chance for Members of Congress serving their last few days in Washington to plunge one more axe into the back of the Second Amendment.
They think the time to strike an anti-gun blow is now.
They think you’ve given up.
The UN Gun Ban, a new permanent "Assault Weapons Ban," or even ammo and magazine bans are ALL on the table during the lame duck session.
That’s why I’m asking you to make a phone call to your U.S. Senators RIGHT NOW!
Demand your Senators oppose gun control in all forms during the lame duck session of Congress: 202-224-3121.
Lead, Bitchez!
Take Fox and Ted Nugent out of the infotainment mix and those numbers would be down sharply
You can't censor folks like that. It's a free-for-all.
'To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic.'
-The Nuge
The trouble is, Ted Nugent isn't exactly any kind of moral authority or respected citizen. He's just an asshole redneck who happened to get rich singing, and now has a bully pulpit.
FUCK Fox and that scumbag Nugent, but you're still not getting the gunz bitch.
The facts..there are 26 guns in circulation for every man woman and child in our country (that number does include military)...if you don't own one you're skewing the average.
Gun abolitionists take note. The state is like a mighty elephant and we the people are like ants. Should the state insist on getting in our bed and tormenting us, once provoked, we will rise up and clean its bones.
The shortest path to civil war is for the state to attempt to disarm free men. Never forget the spark that ignited the Revolution was the march on Concord.
I will take HK for $1000 Alex.
And the answer is...."Personal firearms manufacturer respected and admired by professionals, second only to Sig Sauer."
Have the original sendero in .300 win with a nightforce on top... tack driver. Pretty obscene for a factory gun... but it's had some work (trigger, bedding, crown, etc.)
And, sorry, but HK > Sig... both are great, but HK is better. Although, I'll probably have to break down and get one of the new 938s.
look for the tests on the hk 45 and tell me it doesn't rule the roost.
I'm also starting to become a CZ fanboy. Their .22lr is amazing, but their handguns are some of the best bargain basement finds out there... tend to be very accurate, forgiving, and cheap! I think the model 75 is the most issued firearm to police forces in the world... but don't quote me on that one.
CZ's baby.Best grip on a gun out of the box,accurate and just plain durable.Got me eye on their big bore .45,the 97B.Im hearing next yr they are discontinuing certain models.
I have a 97b and it is spectacular. Absolutely recommended. Out of the box @ 7 yards all the old men at the range were commenting on the youngin that kept hitting the bullseye with the big bore. My wife shot it and thought it was a 9mm based on the recoil. [I have a shorter barreled .45 that she is scared of because of the muzzle flip]. It's not a gun that you want to carry around on a backpacking trip, but it's absolutely incredible for the range/home defense.
I'll also vouch for the SP-01... another tremendous firearm.
Each of these guns has had quite a few complaints about feeding problems in larger hollow point rounds, FYI. It seems as though the feed ramps might need to be polished. Also, you'll need to keep them clean... they're not AKs of the pistol world.
Thanks Macho.I heard about jhp's in them.I like my clone CZ's in the 10mm Witness.Gotta go with their upper tier models,base models suck.
It may not be a surprise to anyone who recognizes my avatar that I lean towards Ruger.
edit - I changed my avatar
"Derpity Doo Obama Gonna Take My Guns Away!"
You'll be sorry when they run out of Obama phones and they come for yours!
I think that the actual message reads: Obama is not going to take our guns away.
If you look closer, it says "Come here, boy.. I won't hurt you.. come on.. it's ok.. "..
Just to be clear, I'm saying that the message gun buyers are sending is that Obama will not take away their guns. Friendly fire is a bitch.
Just to be clear that when the gov't says "It's ok..we're not going to take away your rights".. it means "We're going to enslave you without you know it it.. we'll do it slow so you don't feel the noose.. and then BLAMO!!!!.. you're my bitch!"..
Yeah, I know. Gun buyers are exercising their rights now so if anyone tries to take away those rights there will be one hell of a fight. That's the message I'm getting from the increase in gun sales.
plus its hunting season, nov5 was national buy ammo day
Yep. Long blaze orange and brandy.
It's all fun and games until you get 'sprayed' with bird shot by a drunk neo-con.
That is still fun. Might sting a little, but fun.
are you talking about syria again?
The best part is that he apologized for getting in the way of the birdshot and catching it in the face.
You have to be a special kind of evil to command that type of obedience.
Well, the previous hunting partner came out of hyperspace too close to Hoth, and we all remember how that turned out.
A Twinkie in one hand and an AK47 in the other...............
Good news...
I think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy, we fought ourselves - and the enemy was in us ...
The war is over for me now, but it will always be there - the rest of my days. As I am sure Elias will be - fighting with Barnes for what Rhah called possession of my soul ... There are times since I have felt like the child born of those two fathers ... but be that as it may, those of us who did make it have an obligation to build again, to teach to others what we know and to try with what's left of our lives to find a goodness and meaning to this life
Just keeping up with the Department of Homeland Security:
Why is everyone all up in arms about the recent purchase by Homeland security of 1.4 Billion rounds of ammunition?
Our undeclared Foreign War in Iraq Consumes about 70,000,000 (70 Million) Rounds of Ammunition Each Year, which would take about 20 years to consume 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition ordered by the Department of Homeland Security alone, not including all the ammunition ordered by the weather service, Social Security, etc! 20 Years To Use All 1.4 Billion Rounds Of This Ammo?
Is the Department of Homeland security to protect us from foreign terrorists, or to protect the central government from the American people?
1.4 billion rounds weigh around 28,000 tons, three destroyers' worth, so to speak. It takes over 1,200 18-wheel trucks to move that much ammunition. That's the equivalent to a line of single trailer trucks, parked end to end, almost 14 miles long.
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2012/09/why_does_homeland_security_need_14_billion_rounds_of_ammunition.html#ixzz2C80QEWL3
I'm not sure what's going on but something definately seems to be. I have a Sheriff's range (outdoor) close to my house and there has been a lot of full auto being fired as-well-as something making a real big boom...not like a 12 ga or 30-06...I'm talking more like grenade or C4. Also, I was at my local indoor range yesterday. They have one side with about 10 lanes and another with about 15 lanes. The 15 lane side has 2 large viewing windows. The windows were covered with what appeared to be cardboard (possibly wood) and there was something going on in there (full auto fire). Lastly, I just got my driver's license renewal in the mail. It now has a return address which includes 'Department of Homeland Security' along with Tenn. Dept Trans. Paranoia???
What sounds like automatic weapons fire could be someone playing around with bump fire or slide fire. Just a possible explanation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0f7OCnrrpk
I know when I can own machine guns on the taxpayer's dime, I'd get a slide fire...
Also, plenty of real machine guns in civilian hands...
It is certainly not impossible that an officer would take his own privately owned weapons to the range. Why pretend that that is not a possibility even if you find it unlikely.
That is certainly a possibility but I can't imagine why the indoor range would have a need for secrecy if that's all they were doing.
Just stay frosty, friend.
automatic weapons fire is probably an MP5 or M16... depends on where you are, but SWAT may use them... may have some other specialty guns too
big bang is probably bang charge or the like... might have a shooting house... and are practicing entry.
Gun ownership won the public opinion & relations battle long ago. Did so fair and square. Millions of Americans of all different backgrounds have voted with their wallets. Economic and a dozen other indicators leave no doubt that this has occured.
Several contrived shooting psy-Ops have had the opposite effect than the one their sponsors had in mind: not an embrace of "gun control" but a recognition that we have an utterly lawless "government" who'd kill its own citizens to try to ram unpopular and unconstitutional laws down our throats. We now know THEY are the enemy. Guns? We know they're actually Freedom Instruments. Our best friends.
But here's the worry: the globalists who walk Obama on a leash cannot abide legal gun ownership by informed, law-abiding citizens. And we also know that they're only stopped when they're dead. Having utterly failed to get their way on guns up to this point, they're back to the UN to try to get it done that way. The UN treaty and "Executive Orders" set in motion via False Flag "terror" attacks is the next set of tactics we need to be aware of.
If they can't let the Internet continue in its current form, they obviously can't leave us our firearms and ownership rights either.
This is gonna get really interesting in Obama's second term...
The Sherriff in my county said he will deputize everyone with a conceal carry permit if the gov't tries to take your gun.
Your Sheriff, for President.
Ooorah!
And just what county and state would that be, Grandpa?
Mockingbird Lane is located where??
How's life in the dungeon treating you these days???
I need to get my first weapon. Any suggestions on brand and type? Looking to spend $250-500.
AR-15 You might not be able to get them soon.
That's a terrible suggestion for a first-time buyer with the stated budget limitations.
Remington 870 or Mossberg 590A. Multi-use platform with punch. Bird shot, buck shot, slugs and specialty rounds. Pest extermination, small and large game hunting and home defense. Some slugs can penetrate an engine block when necessary.
I have an 870 Super Mag myself and I'll vouch for this. Many uses, many loads, reliable, easy to clean, the list goes on and on. Those 3.5" magnums are flat-out brutal.
For that money buy a Mossberg 500 12 gauge.
+1. Good to 80 yds with Slugs. Hunt birds, hunt deer, most effective weapon at close range. Know it's limitations, though, and pattern it.
Used Shotgun for $100-200.
AR's $700 (low end)
Ruger 1022 - $200
9mm are cheap ammo and very effective.
