Hamas Releases Video Of Downed Israeli Drone, IDF Denies
Someone is lying here: either Hamas did not down an IDF drone, dubbed "Sky Light", and the clip below is one big fraud (unclear why Hamas would go to such a length to fabricate a downed drone video), or the IDF is lying when it said it "confirmed" that one of its drones had been shot down. Either way, we have a feeling that the airborne campaign is coming to an end, and that Israel may and likely will escalate to a full blown land invasion very soon unless something dramatically changes. We fail to see what catalyzes this.

That's a model airplane. Drones are big, some with 40' wingspan. Stormy weather would toss that thing around at 120', let alone 10,000 feet It's not a military drone. If that specimen has wheels, the shag carpet it's sitting on would suck them up. The video is a total joke - much like Benocides' "we have no inflation" speeches.
And for the record, I am not picking sides.... could give a rip about the never ending conflict. Just my $.02 on drones that I've been up close to.

Nope-1004 You are wrong about that. Drones vary in size from a couple feet across to bigger than most 4 place general aviation planes. Many of the drones being used in the US by sherrif and police departments are not in the usual ariplaine format of a a motor, wing, fuselage, and tail. Many are 4 motor helicopter type designs that can easily hover.

That said, the drone in this video could be a hobbyist RC airplane, but I doubt it. It did not have the look at all of a hobby type RC plane, and the rear drive propellor/engine package, particularly, does not look like anything you can buy at Tower Hobbies.
Now, here's the real kicker, a Drone IS an RC model airplane, with a different purpose.

perving cams?! So I checked out pervcam dot com.......
I fly Radio Controlled Electric Gliders (up to 5m span). I also trialled the Israeli Aircraft Industries' Drone 'Searcher 001' back in 1993...THAT Gentlemen, is NOT your usual Military Drone. I can almost say for sure that the design is flyable, it does look airworthy, but not overly sturdy. There's lots of information in that video if you know what you're looking at.
Here's what I see:
1. I am 100% sure it's electric; I recognise the Propeller at the rear and silver hub too (the Pusher Propeller at the rear is a grey plastic APC brand...very common). You can even see the screws for mounting the motor to the rear bulkhead.
2. There is an air vent on the top ('V' shape) which indicates there is a cooling requirement (Lithium Batteries, Speed Controller and Brushless Motor).
3. There are some commonly used RC Modelling components too.
4. The Ailerons are short and there are no flaps, so I'd say they really don't care about careful landings.
5. basic flight controls, no redundancy (disposable?).
Design:
1. It looks like it's man-packed (portable) or small vehicle launched.
2. Low cost (you could build thousands of these things cheaply).
3. Short range. I'd give it maybe 1-2hr max endurance. Being electric, and the design itself, although quite suitable, is NOT for endurance. The shapes are basically rectangular and offer minmum Lift-to-drag ratios (cheap and nasty not like F3B and F3J glider design).
4. Low speed; maybe 100kph max. The high aspect wing shape, tail shape and body
5. Low power; given the rear bulkhead, prop and hub, I'd say less than 1500W output (ergo 100kph max).
6. Lightweight; I reckon the span is about 3-4 meters, so I'd say it weighs around 5kg min, 10kg max.
One thing that gets me is that I see no Camera in the nose or underneath. It looks like it's either a decoy, electronic surveillance maybe, or, an expendable small payload (3-5kg) bomb carrier (laser designated/guided)...perhaps a False Flag Drone for media attention.
In any case, it's not what I'd build given millions of dollars in military funding, not even close.
If my aim was to make a fairly convincing low cost RC model Drone capable of fooling the world media, and passing it off as a US/Israeli Drone, then THAT is very close to what I'd make.
Just to give you some perspective, my 5 meter electric glider has 3000W motor/batt setup. It has full carbon fibre folding props. It's 100% fully moulded body and wings in carbon fibre and kevlar. Is sleek. Has 8 independant flight control surfaces......and you can make it ready to fly for under $3000.
So, why the low speed, low endurance, low cost, probably disposable, Drone?

Are you kidding? Low speed, short range, disposable drone? You can't think of any applications for that in an on the ground military operation? The most valuable thing, I would think would be to get something up in the air, that is not likely to be detected (very low radar signature) and fly it around over the nearby enemy lines at afew hundred to a thousand feet. You could even turn the already very quiet electric motor off, and silently glide over the enemy so as to reduce detection. Get lots of pictures back to the operator, and if you lose it, so what. Just put another one up. Nothing secret in it, just a hi res camera that transmits pictures/video back.
Sorry for not recognizing the hobby parts, I never flew electric, just gliders. that's a definite high glide ratio wing that would break down enough to easily fit in a jeep or humm vee. I'd guess wingspan to be 5-8'.
Coming from a Recon/Sniper background (as well) I agree with you 100% on Low Level Ops (an eye in the sky is king), except on one point whch you've not covered. Which is; since when has the US or Israeli Defence Department EVER used RC modelling components when the whole point of military is to consume dollars in the military industrial complex?
Sorry, but even a shoe MUST be made under Defence contract.
This 'Drone' is something else....whether it be a mock-up, a Hamas False Flag, an Israeli RC Modeller, or a an overly keep Israeli soldiers' idea of value-add.......but it is extremely unlikely to be real military Drone.
I'd say it's to escalate agression and media attention.......and it's worked.

In their long occupation of Southern Lebanon they were under frequent attack by a growing resistance by Hezbolla as Hezbolla grew in military power and fighting skill. For a long time the IDF denied the claims by Hezbolla of successful attacks on the IDF occupation forces. Then Hezbolla hit upon the idea of filming their attacks and releasing videos to the media, pre youtube days.
Once videos of tanks and APCs and jeeps blowing up and video of dead Israeli infantry began to arrive at media outlets, the IDF could no longer deny they were being hit badly by Hezbolla fighters. Eventually the IDF ran away from Southern Lebanon as Israeli citizens became fed up with the increasing casualties that Hezbolla inflicted and left entirely. That is when Hezbolla fortified Southern Lebanon in preparation for the next Israeli invasion. The invasion eventually came and the IDF had their asses handed to them by a well prepared defense.
This is all part of the historical record, it can be confirmed by a little research. IDF have always been liars, only when video confirms their losses will they admit to them. This is why hezbolla has video of Israeli tanks knocked out in the fighting and also of dead Israeli commandos killed in a deadly ambush during the Lenbanon war. Either have it on tape, or IDF denies it. This is a proven fact.
