Israel Re-escalates: Mobilizes 75,000

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: Israel CDS 162/170, +8 bps

Earlier today, air raid sirens went off in Tel Aviv, and even Jerusalem was supposedly in danger of a missile attack: hardly the deescalation Israel was hoping to see. Sure enough, the ball is in Bibi's court and he wastes not time:

  • ISRAEL PLANNING TO CALL UP 75,000 RESERVISTS, CHANNEL TWO SAYS

Next: flip flops and other various closed-toed shoes on the ground.

Philip Giraldi on Antiwar.com argues that “much of what the American public is seeing and hearing about Iran and Syria is a red herring.” Rather, the focus should be on occupied Palestine.

Writes Giraldi:

If the media is focused on developments in Syria and Iran it will be excusable not to pay any attention to what Israel is doing in its own backyard in what remains of Palestine. And Israel is most definitely up to its usual tricks on the West Bank. Benjamin Netanyahu has recently announced the building of 1,200 more housing units for Jews only in occupied East Jerusalem and on the West Bank. If the Palestinians seek permanent observer member-state status in the United Nations at the end of this month, there have been suggestions that Israel will retaliate by building even more new settlements…

Restraint? Benjamin Netanyahu has no desire to see any viable Palestinian state and he has exploited the United States as an enabler in his commission of war crimes to stall any progress in that direction. When Israel was created it managed to seize control of 78% of the historic Palestine leaving only 22% to the Palestinian inhabitants. That 22% has now been reduced to less than 10% remaining on the West Bank plus Gaza. Israel is intent on colonizing the more desirable parts of the West Bank, crowding the remaining Palestinians into a cluster of Bantustans that will be “self-governing” though without any of the attributes of sovereignty. The Arabs will not control their own water resources and airspace, will be hemmed in by Jews-only highways that they cannot use and military zones that they cannot enter, and will be prey to arbitrary action by the Israeli army to “protect” settlers and maintain security.

The Israelis appropriate Palestinian land as the wish to create new settlements and the rampaging settlers themselves destroy Palestinian farms and businesses so that the people will have no livelihood and will be forced to leave. All of the Israeli action is, of course, illegal in addition to being unconscionable as the Geneva Conventions consider it a war crime to seize and colonize land that has been occupied by military action...

This is a proxy war versus Iran and its cheerful Ayatollahs. Israel has less to do with Judaism and more to do with that European toehold in the ME so that the Ayatollahs do not seize the oil.

Will we be safer when the Medieval Theocracy has nuclear tipped missles?

How many warheads does Israel already hold? More than France?

Meanwhile, the Palestinians are being played on the margins and continue to be marginalized.

The quest for power rears its ugly head.

My super Catholic uncle wouldn't vote for Romney for several reasons - but one of them was that Mormonism is a cult and 'crazy.'   Then I stepped back and realized that sometimes things 'are' what we call them...  Catholics, and for that matter Jews and Muslims... believe things that are batshit crazy.

But oddly, while we hear about Muslim and Christian fundamentalists - the existence of Jewish Fundamentalists goes largely undiscussed.

Lots of wrong to go around on both sides, but if Iran's leader met with an Imam who told him to do what he could to bring about their version of the appocalypse - you'd better believe we'd here nothing but that for weeks.

But the Israelis/Jews get a pass.

Here's Netanyahu [who, if you google it, was claiming Iran was months away from a nuke since 1992] being told to do what he could to bring about the Jewish Messiah.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFr4C2BPLeM

BTW as I understand it, the Jewish concept of a Messiah is less about peace and harmony and more about Jews ruling the world from Israel because God chose them and all that.  I suspect most Jews don't believe it, but there's textual justification in the Talmud or Torah or both and the fundies adhere to it.  Certainly correct me if I'm wrong...

Also many of the orthodox/fundamentalist Jews really, really hate it when you try to convert a 'Jew'.  Which is fine, but I'm not sure I want these assholes having control of nukes either...

Gee ~ I guess we'll never know how many nukes Israel has because they refuse to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty...

up above, you seem to sign off on reports from msnbc. Taking your latest statement, as your logic dictates, the Israeli government "signed off" on a truce, then used that to lure a Hamas leader out to kill him with very sophisticated weapons. This has now created a violent reaction from Hamas, which the Israeli government knew full well it would create. In doing so, it further endangered both sides' citizens but given the insanely disproportional resouces and backing from an empire with the largest military in history, the odds are heavily weighed. The Isreali government then used this as a justification for Israeli trrops and reserves to "protect" itself. So, following your logic, why exactly now should Hamas trust them. Like the US, the Israeli government seems to want and stoke violence and seems prepared to risk its own citizens for an agenda based substantially on physical resources but pitched to its people as terrorism from an "insane" group of foreigners

until Hamas and the vast majority of Arab nations stop teaching their children to hate there will be no peace in the middle east.  Hamas cares more about the destruction of Israel than a better future for the Palestinian people.  What good does it do to shoot missiles into southern Israel . "For months now the struggle against Germany is waged by each Jewish community, at each conference, in all our syndicates, and by each Jew all over the world. There is reason to believe that our part in this struggle has general value. We will trigger a spiritual and material war of all the world against Germany's ambitions to become once again a great nation, to recover lost territories and colonies. But our Jewish interests demand the complete destruction of Germany. Collectively and individually, the German nation is a threat to us Jews." -- Vladimir Jabotinsky (founder of the Jewish terrorist group, Irgun Zvai Leumi) in Mascha Rjetsch, January, 1934 (also quoted in "Histoire de l'Arme'e Allemande"by Jacques Benoist--Mechin, Vol. IV, p. 303).

Israel is claiming that Iran has supplied Fajr-5 rockets to whoever inside Gaza is launching them at Israel.

Israel's blockade of Gaza is so tight that crayons and musical instruments for Gaza's children cannot get through. The Fajr-5 is 6 1/2 meters long, and weighs 915 Kilograms. It requires a launcher, which is 10 1/2 meters long.

Think something that big and heavy gets smuggled in through a tunnel?

And common sense applies here. Why would Iran do such a stupid thing? All it would take is just one of these rockets to be discovered and captured by the Israelis to provide Israel and the US an excuse for an attack. Yet Israel claims that the Gazans had a multitude of these rockets.

I have no love for Hamas, they are indeed a violent blight upon the Palestinian people and they would be better off if the PA were the only ones in charge no doubt. however, how much teaching does it take it get people to hate those who illegally blockade and sanction them, economically repress them, drive them off of and steal there land, beat there children and constantly threaten with death via superior military power?

Hamas is no better, but Israel has earned the hatred of the Palestinian people all by themselves.

sadly there are no good guys here, just more dead civilians, innocent people on both sides who just want to get through the day without having to worry about whether they will get to see there loved ones again.

but as always, they don't matter, they don't count, not to the fuckers in charge whether in Gaza, or Tel Avie, or Washington DC, middle east, northeast, wherever, it's all the same.

no good guy nation vs bad guy nation here, just the serfs bleeding and dying  for the enrichment of the PTBs, but that's nothing new.

All over the American media this morning is the report that Israel is amassing its forces against “the militants.”

Militant is an interesting word that we learned through Webster’s et al.: “Engaged in warfare; fighting; also, combative; aggressively active.” But in a Zionist world, that definition no longer applies.

Here’s the Google Zionist definition: “Combative and aggressive in support of a political or social cause: ‘militant Islamic fundamentalists.’”

The American nation is set to pay a horrible price for its duplicity in not only allowing its proxy (Israel) to consistently harass, imprison and murder the Palestinians, but it has insisted on a culture from media to Congress to the President to the Federal Reserve and, yes, to every school child in America which is based on a damnable lie.

It is a lie that not only supports, but takes the lead in, wholesale genocide.

What do you think would happen if Israel pulled back to their 67 border and refused to respond to any militant attacks? Would the Palestinians lay down their arms and stop all hostilities? Where could a line be drawn that would ensure a relatively peaceful coexistence?

Fri, 11/16/2012 - 14:39 | 2988883 JR

Your response implies that the Palestinians have been the aggressive, warlike monsters throughout the years since 1947, hardly a logical conclusion centered on their dilemma: banished from their own land, prisoners in their own land, refused even the chance to join the parade of the world’s nations, and refused even the honest brokering of the world’s former moral compass – the United States of America.

To answer your question, the line you suggest could be drawn this afternoon, supported and enforced by the U.S. and European powers, and Palestine given permission to form its nation and hereafter, violators - and that includes the Bibi militants - punished for their crimes against humanity.

It was the Jewish Bolsheviks who killed 65 million innocents in Russia; it was the Jews in post-WWII America that helped set up Mao in China who killed, mainly by intentional starvation, 65 million Chinese. It was the Likud party, an offshoot of the Irgun and Stern gangs, that dispersed 700,000 Palestinians from their land and has massacred the Palestinians ad nauseam since 1947 and keeps them imprisoned in a fenced concentration camp monitored by a Joystick murder-operation called Spot and Shoot. THAT is the antagonistic element opposed to any agreement that would allow the establishment of an independent and democratic Palestinian state.

It is the Jews that rejected the Oslo peace agreement.

But what is that line that the Palestinians would abide by. Elimination of the Jewish state and a Nuremburg trial? Sounds to me that your only solution is the same as the Palestintians, total anhilation of Israel. As IQ mentioned, they are at war now. Israel is in it up to their necks for right or wrong, so I would imagine they are fighting to win. Short of a UN sanctioned extermination I don't see your solution in the cards.

Whilst those who promote (and control) the killing sprees Worldwide are comfortably protected from the consequences of their actions, be assured the killings will continue apace.

The "Talk" is all de-escalation; the reality seems escalation: What is the risk of local hostilities expanding to become regional, then supra-regional, then global?

ANY nuclear offensive / defensive action will have consequences: In a large scale Middle East war, America WILL  be involved (at least at the level of overt (and covert) munitions / technology support, possibly as a directly-acting combatant force).

Can the US afford another conflict? Will resources have to be "diverted" from existing conflict zones (so in effect "enabling" the opponents in these diverse conflicts)? Will "The People" be happy to see more lives lost and $$s wasted?

Maybe it's time for the "Government" to come clean on all this - and clearly state, via the Mainstream Press / Media, the real risks to the US, including the risk of significant attacks (military, and "terrorist" on US Mainland infrastructure). Then, with an informed population, maybe there might be some incentive for "Jaw, Jaw" rather than "War, War".

Definitely not happening in my lifetime!
