Night Of The Long Knives: 'Fake' Conservative John Boehner Purges The GOP

Tyler Durden's picture

Is this really the reason why markets are rallying today? (or is it front-running the potential 'cone of silence' from a long-weekend in DC) We suspect neither, but Mike Krieger, having written extensively on the two-party political sham, notes the issue is that both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are at their core the same on the big issues most affect these United States at this timeThis past election should have been a wakeup call to the Republican establishment, but based on John Boehner’s recent actions, they have learned absolutely nothing.  The Republican Party is imploding from within since its leaders don’t actually stand for anything.  Here is how Mr. Boehner treats those within his party that do stand for something.

Via Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

I have written about the two-party political sham for many years now.  At its root, the issue is that both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are at their core the same on the big issues most affect these United States at this time.  These issues are:

  1. The Federal Reserve scam and Wall Street theft.
  2. Civil liberties and the destruction of the Constitution.
  3. Our aggressive foreign policy and imperial wars abroad that help only the oligarchs and impoverish the masses.

Then they divide and conquer the masses using relatively irrelevant social issues like gay marriage, which are highly charged emotionally but will not affect your ability to put food on the table.

This past election should have been a wakeup call to the Republican establishment, but based on John Boehner’s recent actions, they have learned absolutely nothing.  The Republican Party is imploding from within since its leaders don’t actually stand for anything.  Here is how Mr. Boehner treats those within his party that do stand for something.

From the Huffington Post:

On Monday, the Republican Steering Committee, which is chaired by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), voted to remove Reps. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) and Tim Huelskamp (R-Kansas) from the House Budget Commtitee. Reps. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) and Walter Jones (R-N.C.) lost their positions on the Financial Services Committee.

The four members are known for occasionally bucking leadership and voting against Boehner’s wishes. Amash, Huelskamp and Schweikert are popular with the conservative movement, while Jones has made a name for himself by speaking out against U.S. involvement in Afghanistan.

Reuters notes that removing Amash and Huelskamp from the Budget Committee “could make it easier for the panel to advance a deal with Democrats to cut fiscal deficits” — which is exactly what many conservative groups are afraid of.

Huelskamp unloaded on GOP leadership Tuesday at a Heritage Foundation event in Washington, saying, “We were not notified about what might occur but it confirms in my mind the deepest suspicions that most Americans have about Washington D.C: it’s petty, it’s vindictive, and if you have conservative principles you will be punished.”

“It’s a slap in the face to all young people who are thinking about being Republicans, want to be a part of this party, and are being told, ‘Well, if you disagree with leadership just a couple times we’re going to send you home … you don’t get to participate,’” he said.

Jones said he hasn’t yet spoken to Boehner. In fact, he only found out he lost his spot on the committee when his staff read about it on the Internet.

Talk about classless.  These guys apparently weren’t even notified of their demotions ahead of time and had to read about it in the press.  The message to the citizenry is clear.  We must move away from the two-party system and fast.  That way we can elect candidates that actually vote the will of the people that elected them, rather than pander to some slimy political godfather in Washington.

Yeah, Akin's base stayed home because what was the point of voting for someone who revealed himself to be a true conservative nutcase?  The other Repugs split their ticket and voted for McCaskill.

If you broke up the republican party, over 80% of them would realize they're democrats. Tax and spend, big government pinkos. Why did they support Romney? Because in any other decade in the 20th century, he would have been a democrat. He actually looked and sounded more like FDR than the current empty suit corporatist in the White House.

Getting to be about that time. The republicans can't win with their platform. It's been stolen by the democrats. They have no principles. No tradition. No transformational leadership. And no future. Its just a bunch of power hungry assholes hanging around think tanks who want to get their turn at being near the person who thinks of themself as God for a few years.

Liberty, freedom, responsibility, individualism, fiscal conservatism -- no need to associate any of these concepts with the republican party. Especially when they offer to raise taxes by "closing loopholes". Assholes.

The GOP still does not understand that it was the bailouts and N.D.A.A. that killed them.

2010 was the vote to kick out the bums that voted for the bailouts.  Some succeeded and some GOP voters wanted to keep the FED gravy train to their districts rolling - just like a Democrat.

Now the GOP is talking about "compromise" and getting soft on illegal immigration, and again - acting like Democrats.

If there is no difference between the parties who will the people vote for?  The ones who say they are going to cut altready taxed entitlements after they bailed out Wall Street - or the ones who say they won't cut entitlements and will tax the rich.

It doesn't make any difference - but the Republicans are worse liars.

Agreed. I don't want to hear shit for cuts to 'entitlements' to the people until the bankster CEOs are all rounded up and jailed, all personal executive and family assets seized, their bailouts clawed back and their banks sold for scrap if they can't or won't pay the bailout money back. It's disgraceful as a nation for us to be entertaining the idea of any pension reform or mortgage deduction cuts, etc, etc before any of that happens.

Just further confirmation of what so many of us conservatives have felt for a long time - that we really have little to no representation in the current political class.   Words mean things...and I  believe it's time for conservatives to realize in part or whole that we can no longer find our identity in the GOP.  I no longer use "we" or "our" when referring to the republicans because they so infrequently represent my conservative viewpoint.   During the primaries I predicted that shortly before or after the election that we'd see a tea party split from the GOP.  Maybe this will be the trigger...who knows.   The GOP has long since lost any pretense of being a party of limited govt.  I'd like to see Demint, Lee, Bachmann, etc drop the dime on Boehner and his clown posse right before he's scheduled to make some cliff announcement.

Khotel, agree with you.  republican and conservative are two seperate things.  it just so happens that the republican party was the vehicle which conservatives used to get elected...that's it....end of story.  republican does not equal conservative. and the wasington establishment republicans can't stand conservatives.  probably less than 10% of republicans are conservatives.  unfortunately conservatives have to either take over the "vehicle" of the republican party or find another one to use to get elected.

This article nailed it. The Republicans have a mantra about smaller government and greater individual liberty but it is not what they DO. It is known to all that they stand for nothing in particular while Democrats will go to the mat for what they believe. That is generally larger and more controlling government sugar coated with free stuff for some.

When a party stands for nothing the only way you can win an election is by getting people to vote against the other person. The other person must be bad enough you will try the question mark guy. Romney who did state mandated healthcare, abortion and bigger government himself could hardly be vastly different from Obama. Obama, even with this economy was not bad enough for people to vote against him and try the question mark guy. Combine that with the fact that Romney was the LEAST favorite of all Rep. candidates for conservatives and libertarian types and it is amazing the vote was as close and ir was.

A party that is consistently pro-1% and losing sway on social issues will have a difficult time being successful in a democracy.

For anyone who has not seen Lincoln, it's a good reminder that politics, like sausage, is not pleasant to watch being made. Boehner whacking some of the truest Republicans from key positions has much historical precedent.

Boehner's actions indicate he read correctly the pulse of the electorate a few weeks ago.

Obama's comments that any fiscal cliff agreement will include the planned expiration of the Bush tax break for high-earners, indicates he is reading the electorate similar to the way Boehner is.

The Republican power base is aging (read dying, shrinking). Younger voters are more socially liberal, are living in a time when prospects are limited, and social media allows them to be more effective politically than past younger generations.

Boehner is a pragmatist. Today's actions are part of trying to avert disaster in the 2014 mid-term election.

Polls showed Ron Paul was the only Republican candidate who could have beaten Obama. Ron Paul's strong support by younger voters also means the Republicans can capture the young vote without giving up conservative positions on abortion, guns, and maybe even immigration.

We might even see some Ron Paulish, anti-Fed rhetoric out of the Republicans if U.S. economic trends continue. If Boehner can pin the malaise, and Obama's re-appointment of Bernanke on the Democrats by 2014, Republicans have a chance to repair the political damage of the Romney loss.

Obviously you are no Republican, so really what does it matter what you think about the internal politics of the Republican Party.  Used to be, America was all about the opportunity to be rich and powerful.  Now, it's all about tearing down the rich and powerful, unless of course they happen to sound like they're on your side.

What polls showed Ron Paul could have beaten Obama?  He came nowhere near winning the Republican primary, so it's pretty hard to imagine that he could have been in a race with Obama much less beaten him even as a third party candidate.  The guy has strange views on legalizing all hard drugs and closing down all American military bases overseas.  There may be a day when the American public sees things his way, though.  God knows I never expected them to elect a white hating socialist, but there we are.

Couldn't give a crap about what Boner does to the Republicans, I realized years ago that "both" parties wanted to take your freedoms and everything else was window dressing.

A party though that focuses on "lady parts" and "social issues" when the economy and our liberty is circling the drain, deserves whatever losses it continues to take because it cannot get its head out of its ass. Being the party of Bible thumpers and old white geezers when both are on the decline is just plain dumb.

There is a world of difference in being "represented" (my "representatives" sure as hell don't represent me), and forcing one's lifestyle on everyone else through said representatives. I happen to fall into most of your aformentioned categories; I do not feel the overwhelming compulsion to force the same values and lifestyle on those around me. And since we are on the topic of compulsion, the namesake of your moniker did not believe in the first use of force.

All political action ultimately comes down to use of force. At the end of every political act is the implicit or explicit threat of violence for failure to comply. Liked homosexual lifestyles being illegal under the law and legally persecuted because the Bible is against sodomy? How about now when the shoe is on the other foot and queers and athiests are successfully persecuting symbols of Christianity under the same law? See where this leads?

Oh, and the beeaast is on the gobble so none of this matters anyway. Looks like Woggie slithered from under his rock again...

Oh I hate (love) when I'm right!!!!!

Fuck'n Boehner, could there be a stupider POS in politics???? Don't answer that, because the name McDonnell, Romney, Paul Ryan, etc are springing to mind! Nevertheless, Boehner is the current idiot in charge of the sinking ship, so he's our man of the hour!!

Where are the baseball bats, from these pussy wannabe "tea party patriots" we heard soooooo much about the last 4 years????  Where's Santelli with another "show" on CNBC???? Hey Rick, why don't you stop acting and starting fighting for real?? Organize a real rebellion that might land your ass in jail, get your ass fired, or inspire a bigger rebellion, since you still have the bully pulpit?? Ohhh that's right, because like all these other elected fuck ups in the tea party every year, once your mouth meets your money, it gets real lonely and scary doesn't it??  You know it and the I know it, your ass is as bought and paid for, as any other clown on CNBC or any other politician in DC!!

This fucking rebellion in America won't be lead from the ivory towers of wall street or the beltway, it will be lead by people from the frontier of our society, with no money, opportunity left, or any place left to run!  It will be lead by men and women who won't have anything left to compromise, so they won't fuckng have to compromise at all!  The shit won't be televised, but it will be viral and sudden!  And when it starts, it will spread like fire, like it does everywhere else in the world!  And then we are gonna find out where all these guns and ammo purchases have been going to over the last 5 years!! And when these rag tag, barely organized rebels start taking shit over and start calling territory "off limits" to the federal government, then we might see some politicians and talk show hosts, and other elected pussies in the Tea Party etc, find their balls and join in!

OR

Everyone with all the power and money and interest in the fraud, corruption, and tyranny will sit quietly by as the police state springs to action and crushes these "terrorist", teaching a valuable lesson to the millions of would be "sympathizers" to these rebels, a lesson in American Democracy and Freedom!!

ONE PARTY STYLE!!!

boehner was NEVER a conservative.  he's a repubican (mis-spelled on purpose)  The two are VERY different.  non-conservatives often confuse the two (conservative and republican).  the repubican establishment hates conservatives and actively supports vurtually all non-conseravtive candidates while working to destroy true conservatives.  the vest majority of true conservatives that happen to get elected as republicans are put in office by the people, much to the dismay of the washington establishment repubicans.

So what's happening is that, like Europe and China, the USA is heading towards the state capitalism model. Regardless of political affiliation, it hasn't escaped the attention of the USA's leadership that China's economy is booming while ours is failing. Successfful politicians who've lasted long enough to gain power are, at their core, pragmatists. Idealism is lost in the distance. If burning grandmothers every April fool's day got them elected, we'd be having spring bonfires. The temptations to power are too great. At heart, Congress would like the power to wipe out debt by fiat and funny accounting like the Chinese. My guess is that they'll get that power. Inflation and a defacto debt jubilee are in our future, like it or not.

Republican or Democrats.  The only way I can tell who is who is by the color of their ties.

The blame is on voters, all of them. They can be persuaded like little children with a candy.

Remember kiddies, both parties won this past election.  Democrats keep Obama in to roll out Obamacare and the GOP stopped Ron Paul and protected their fat $700+bil yearly military welfare

Military and Healthcare/Pharma are two teams and they don't fight each other.    Social Security and the safetynetters are good cheerleaders but dont control anything

If you don't get any $$ from those 4 camps you don't have a team in the game

Yea! both parties win. We lose big time. Wake up, this is not America anymore. We are about to lose everything we thought America was without a fight. It makes me cry at night to think that my grandchildren will not have the freedoms that so many of us had to sacrifice dearly for. Many gave their lives. You can't ask any more from someone than that. Insted of saying in God we tust, we should be saying God help us.

"Then they divide and conquer the masses using relatively irrelevant social issues like gay marriage, which are highly charged emotionally but will not affect your ability to put food on the table."

“It’s a slap in the face to all young people who are thinking about being Republicans, want to be a part of this party, and are being told, ‘Well, if you disagree with leadership just a couple times we’re going to send you home … you don’t get to participate,’” he said."

These two passages perfectly sum up why the GOP has lost my generation: they condescend to the young, ignore any sensible ideas that are offered, and dance to the tune of whatever emotionally-driven social issues the Democrats decide to get on their soapbox for rather than focus on higher priorities for the public.

When I went through highschool we had a Young Democrats club, but no Young Republicans club. Same in college too. Why? Simple. Politicians (on both sides) win most of their voters by harping on whatever issues get people most emotionally riled -- usually social issues. Highschoolers and college students are still maturing at that point in their lives, physically and mentally, and are therefore more likely to care about social issues than economic ones (since mommy and daddy are likely still footing the bill for most of them). While they both do it extensively, the Democrats have always been better at riling the young and impressionable over petty issues.

The old crows in the GOP seem to think that the old guard of voters will always be there to put them back in office without having to do anything productive... but they won't. The boomers are retiring and the young are waking up to to the options of a bleak jobscape and a feast of welfare handouts. Which do you think they're going to go for?

Doesn't matter how many parties there are - one, two, ten.  Who cares.

There's absolutely no mechanism in place for government to be financially accountable.  Even bankers and the like have rules (although not always enforced).

Until there are laws that are enforced requiring governments to manage money in the interest of the economy rather than in the interest of buying votes, global booms and busts will continue forever.

We are totally fucked for at least the next 10 years.  Thank big government.

The republicans are so stupid it makes one wonder if they can really be that stupid or if they want the elimination of the faux 2nd party totally to get to open one party control.

If I was Boner I'd be telling my guys to let Obama have everthing he wants fiscally since he was elected to fix things - vote present on all bills, enter in to the record why his plan will fail, offer alternatives, but back out of the way where you can't be blamed. Not that the media wouldn't still find a way to do it anyways, but then when the collapse occurs you are in a position to offer true alternatives instead of stupid tweaks and more nonsense. If they have any real alternative to keynesianism run amuk.

Unfricking believable.

Phuk the Republican Party. It is Frankenstein: Undead with no soul. I was a republican for most of my life until my awakening twenty years ago. Although I support local level candidates, and sometimes congressional candidates as well, something usually happens by the time they get to the Senate level: They are bought and sell out. I remember watching an episode of MEET THE PRESS several years back, they had the then RNC chairman on as a guest. He admitted before Tim Russert and the entire country that the Republican party had abandoned it's old values and had become something else. To anyone who is a republican, and dissatisfied with it, I urge you to come over to the Libertarian Party. It is what the Republican Party was seventy plus years ago. It will take time to build up a serious challenge, but thanks to the current republican leadership, it is becoming easier by the day!
