Art Cashin On Assault Weapons, Mental Health, And Video Games

Tyler Durden's picture

We have discussed the alternate views of the terrible events that occurred in Connecticut from mental health to video games (Adam Lanza obsessively played "Call of Duty"), as opposed to simply attacking assault weapons. All, we are sure, have a share in the blame for this monstrosity but UBS' Art Cashin opines on the influence of video games suggesting this needs to be examined more closely. It seems, judging from FTC and FCC 'discussion drafts' that this is indeed on its way. The picture, however common-sensically desensitized the argument is, remains unclear as Bloomberg reports from an industry study: "We can’t find any evidence to support this idea that exposure to video-game violence contributes in any way to support the idea that these types of games or movies or TV shows are a contributing factor, it doesn’t need to be studied again."

Via Art Cashin:

Assault Weapons, Mental Health And Video Games – In the wake of the Connecticut massacre much has been said about the first two items listed above. We have long felt that the influence of video games needs to be examined. It looks like that may be on the way according to an article in Politico:

In the wake of the Newtown shootings, Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller introduced a bill Tuesday that would have the National Academy of Sciences examine any link between violent video games and media, and violent acts by children, industry sources say.

According to a copy of the “discussion draft” obtained by POLITICO, the legislation directs the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission to make “appropriate arrangements” with the NAS to enable the study.

“Recent court decisions demonstrate that some people still do not get it,” Rockefeller said in a statement. “They believe that violent video games are no more dangerous to young minds than classic literature or Saturday morning cartoons. Parents, pediatricians and psychologists know better. These court decisions show we need to do more and explore ways Congress can lay additional groundwork on this issue. This report will be a critical resource in this process. I call on my colleagues to join me in passing this important legislation quickly.”

In particular, the draft bill wants the NAS to explore “whether current or emerging characteristics of video games have a unique impact on children, considering in particular video games’ interactive nature and the extraordinarily personal and vivid way violence might be portrayed in such video games.”

There have been reports that Adam Lanza obsessively played “Call of Duty” and “Starcraft” before he went on a shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., last Friday.

We look forward to the report and discussion.

And Via Bloomberg, the picture is not as clear as many would hope.

We can’t find any evidence to support this idea that exposure to video-game violence contributes in any way to support the idea that these types of games or movies or TV shows are a contributing factor,” Ferguson said. “It doesn’t need to be studied again.”

But, you're a machine, and your thoughts are not material, therefore only mildly empirical, but they can definitely be manipulated chemically (with a prescription of course), so why on earth would anyone think that a combination of psychotropics and virtual violence would have any negative side effects on children?

People get freaked out when their false assumptions get called out.  Like gun free zones, 911, police stopping crime, etc.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people.

You cannot prevent all of these things all the time.  You can only stop them.

And all the "solutions" that will be proposed require giving up more of your rights and responsibilities.

If guns cannot stop these events, then maybe someone should ask the big O about his Praetorian Guards, and whether THEY are armed.

If the possession and use of arms was based on needs, it most certainly would not have been included in the Bill of Rights.

It seems odd that those who would acknowledge a diet of twinkies and soda pop will turn the body into Jabba the Hut, nonetheless refuse to acknowledge that crap into the brain will turn the brain into crap: garbage in, garbage out.

This concept has been well understood for millenia: you are what you think is the most fundamental concept of all sports teams, motivational thinkers, and, yes, religion. Why is this so hard to understand or accept in our contemporary world? We once drew a firm line around what we would allow our children to be exposted to, but now, with the Woodstock generation and its "anything goes" attitude, we have allowed the degenerates control of our children's lives.

As a parent, I would go into my child's room (teenager) and remove the filthy, degenerate rap cds his "other parent" would purchase for him, drive to 7-11, and throw them in the garbage: it was a constant process and served for many yelling sessions.

Children and young people do not have the skills to sort things into proper perspective; that is the role of parents, to provide a foundation of thought that allows for good/bad choices. Put trash in our children's lives: they will live the trash. Role modeling is one of the most powerful contributors to the demise of our society. Again, if you lie down with dogs you get fleas. If you watch and participate in violent games, you become more violent. It's just that easy.

I was a mfin surgeon with that thumper in MW3...could also teach them a thing or two about strategy, use of explosives, unit cohesion.

For that one mission with the honey badger on the residential street, in the first house, my deployment of claymores was so good we didn't have to fire a single shot- the mines and the M2 rocking the front door killed 100% of the guys storming the house.  Yeah, the badger actually ran me over once because i am not that skilled an infantryman lol, but I did teach the teen a thing or two about tactics and strategy and the need for discipline and thinking before rushing into action.  Fire support, firing angles, all these are thought processes, and the need to use your brain instead of storming in and depending on your trigger finger....and NEVER leaving your buddy.

All these people expecting imminent societal collapse and madmax should be out buying PS3s galore and forcing their kids to play.

this is the most idiotic commentary that intends to assign blame clearly where it doesn't belong.   if 10 million kids play these video games and 1 cannot disconnect the game from reality, are the video game maker to blame?  NO of course not.  The kid probably has mental issues, like this Newtown kid did.    I've heard so many blanket statements over the past few days that try to assign blame or someone's view of morality onto the entirety of the population always with the best intentions.  who the hell assigned any of them to be the final arbiter on anything.   they should all shut the hell up and mind their own business.

If Video Games were the problem, then people would be building tanks (World of Tanks), jet fighters (Any number of games that puts you in the seat), post apocalyptic bunkers (okay, some are) flame throwers as well as broadswords, wizard wands and orc slaying ballistas.

We are trying to pin the blame on something and whatever we don't like, get's the tail pinned on it.

How about the very good observation that all of the recent mass killings involved....wait for it.....young, WHITE, males?    Perhaps we should take a closer look at this segment of the population that seems to be, excuse the phrase, Hell bent on committing mass murder?    Perhaps we need to mental screen ALL young, white, males for tendendices to committ murder?

Yeah, that's ridiculous, just like blaming video games (used to be pool tables in Iowa) or assault weapons.    If we ban assault weapons, what's to stop the next person from creating bombs instead?  IED's are quite popular in the ME right now.

You conspiracy guys wouldn't know the truth if it bit you in the face. There are NO EYE WITNESS REPORTS OF A SECOND SHOOTER. To say that means that someone reported seeing a second guy shooting. There are reports that someone saw police take a second guy into custody. Notice the not so subtle difference. Notice how it would distort someones sense of what really happened. I watched a video that claimed to show a second shooter running into the woods. All it showed was police going into the woods and a deer running away. Absolutely bizarre the way your minds work. Video games? BAH! It's high time we ban the automobile! A child in the age range of k-12 has three times the chance of dying in a car accident than in a Columbine or Sandy Hook type massacre.

Oops... I meant to say that the child has three times the risk of dying in a car accident than in a schoolhouse massacre IF THERE WAS ONE SUCH MASSACRE EVERY SCHOOL DAY.

Math:

130,000 K-12 schools, approx 200 school days per year,

or a 1 in 650 chance of having a school shooting in any given year at any particular school at the rate of 200 per year, which is a 1 in 50 chance in 13 years of school attendance,

Assuming 5% casualty rate per school, the chance of your child dying in 13 years of schooling if we had one school massacre every school day is 1 in 1000. Chance of his/her dying in a car accident in that 13-year period is about 3 in 1000.

Number of children dying in car crashed for every victim of a school massascre: Approx 1000 to 1. So if we're going to consider taking guns away from the crazies to save the lives of children, we need to first take cars away from the idiots.

Just sayin'.  /

PS - If, out of the thousands of suicides by school-age children each year, by identifying troubled kids and prevented just three suicides every year since Columbine, we would have saved twice the number of children (though much older) than the Sandy Hook shooter took.

Video games may or may not have an impact. However, the violence portrayed on televisionl, in the movies, by our government (with its constant mass-murdering wars) and in our history books seem to be designed to enforce a norm in society where violence and killing are perceived as "normal". The same with deviant act of all sorts.

One may question why the media needs to constantly bombard us with blood lust and the lack of respect for the rights of others.

Video games are simply a sideshow and my guess is that people are less connected to the cartoonized violence than to the competition and achievment in them designed to replace real life achievement.

Can Art not see this? is he part of it? Or, has he just been blinded by the years of accepting that slaughtering other peoples and races is normal human behavior.

What was that quote from a psychologist before?

If video games really did cause mental problems then all my kids would be running around popping pills thinking ghosts were chasing them.

ehhh, little bit of truth from that one.

It isn't the video games, it is the mind control drugs that remove any sense of right and wrong, and numb the brain to everything. Obsessively playing Call of Duty while under the influence of the mind control drugs may lead the kid to live his whole life as part of a Call of Duty game.

hmmm, using mind controlling drugs and media stimulus to control the population as to bring about the policies you wish to force on the population who would not knowingly accept it.

But no, that is too much of a conspiracy, it can't be true, says my wife. Me, I'm still waiting for the black helicopter to show up outside my house.

Common sense would say we should examine and carefully consider all possible reasons - or combination of reasons - and then take the appropriate, measured actions to lessen the likelihood of future tragedies, in full consideration of Constitutional rights and national values.

But then again this would require common sense.

I know it sounds shitty, but at this point, I blame the mother most of all. If the stories are true (and I know there's been a lot of dis-info) she was pushing him too hard. Sounds like she gave him an ultimatum to get a job, go to college, or get out. That would be perfectly fine for a mentally stable child, but after 20 years of being his mother she should have realized he wasn't mentally stable at times. It sounds like a mother who never accepted that her son was always going to need special attention.

I am quite certain your obsevations are wrong and that, over time - as you find yourself in similar situations as did she (albiet not to the extreme obviously), either through work, family, relationships or whatever, you will change your opinions.

If she did go the ultimatum route, remeber it was in the context of a 20 year effort where everything else that she attempted had been resisted and was unsuccessful.  She may have felt she had to resort to the "tough Love" approach if for no other reason than to get the kid to accept another alternative such as treatment as being the lesser thing to fear.  For whatever reason she paid for it with her life.  I believe to blame her is completely unwarranted, particularly if you put yourself in her shoes - 20 years in her shoes....

I'm not aware of any video games where the objective is to kill small children. Whatever may have desensitized, corrupted, or otherwise jacked up Adam I will say this.... to look a kid in the eye and pull the trigger is pure evil. I don't know what the solution is for that.

The problem is much more complicated and everyone has a stake in getting to the wrong diagnostic: if you can't simply teach children that video games are not real, you really suck as a parent and YOU, yourself need some psychotherapeutic advices.

Hell, I'm not even sure I could do it. So that's why I'm not having them! Simple!

Correlation or causation?  The majority of kids are no longer spanked by their parents.  They have no connection to "crime" and punishment.  "Go to your room" now means play video games, watch tv, chat with friends on your smart phone...basically entertain yourself as "punishment".

Additionally parents now leash their children, both literally and figuratively, trying to coddle and protect them from every splinter and dust atom.  Parents then having not "resolved" their child's "issues", without admitting fault of their own, seek medical help in the form of pills because obviously it can't be their own shortcomings as a parent that is the problem so it must be fixable by chemicals/pharmaceuticals.

Notice that until the last couple of decades these "incidents" didn't happen.  This must be what "progressives" call "progress"?  More austism, more obesity, more youth unemployment...it's all for the children.  Yay...

Angels and demons cohabit in human minds and souls. Usually there is a rough balance. Sometimes the balance is lost. Strange though how much more frequently the demons seem to gain possession. Perhaps that right there reveals the true nature of humans.

We speak of events "bringing out the good" and "bringing out the worst" in people. So it seems clear that both are present, ready to emerge, always. Free will is what enables us to choose to nurture the best or the worst in ourselves. I am certain that it is almost always a choice. In some cases, certainly, people have no choice because of what has happened to them when they were children, before free will could form.

In my case it has been the unwavering love of my wife that has enabled me to keep the worst part of my nature at bay - without that love I am virtually certain that I would unleash the demons. They have always been there, from my earliest moment of self-awareness. When I think of all the suffering and death inflicted upon the innocent by evil beings I have to admit - there, but for the grace of god, embodied in the love that I have been given, go I.

I don't think so.  I think the horrors are easier to call attention to and exploit for ad-revenue.  I bet there are more angels than demons by a wide margin.

If you consider that the frontal lobes are still maturing into the mid 20's, you cannot predict how a kid will process anything mentally sound or deficient.

They will NEVER legislate behavior. All of this from Hollyweed to video games to the dumping of the mentally ill on the streets to psychotropic drugs is by design & for profits.

Being a parent today is nothing short of hypervigilance. I've not seen bullying mentioned as a factor. But it damn sure is. Been there.

Yes. A pilot uses a simulator for training prior to flying a plane. Doesn't mean he'll ever be a good pilot or even ever fly, but he's prepared.

The whole premise behind simulation has been to make it as real as possible.

For the "average" person, violent, gory or even the slasher movie is looked at with repulsion, yet there is a strange magnetism toward them. As children, we were told by our parents or older siblings: "Don't look!" whenever a particularly scary or violent scene was about to happen, yet we peeked between our fingers and watched anyway. The healthy mind is able to see all of this for what it is:FANTASY. A mentally unstable person will see things very differently. They see them as MESSAGES DIRECTED TO THEM PERSONALLY. These people are out of touch with reality, where fantasy and reality become blurred. Remember what Charles Manson said about the Beatles' White Album? Or Hinckly's obsession with the movie Taxi Driver? It is no different when a sick person plays video games. People are dangerous to people, not inanimate objects. Firearms are merely tools, it is in whose hands that they can either be used for defense and recreation, or mayhem and destruction. Regulate the mentally ill, not the rest of us. But then this opens up another whole can of worms: Who gets to define what mental ill is? Is a person mentally ill if he/she has hallucinations, or if they believe we are being governed by a shadow government? Is that paranoid thinking?

To the above poster who mentioned Bullying: I am a firm believer in bullying in school, the earlier the better. It teaches children what lies in store for them in adulthood unless they "grow a pair" and fight back. It is just a part of growing up. The schools now days are obsessed with bullying. I guess they hate competition.

This kind of behaviour from a young person should not surprise anyone. The vast majority of today's kids spend 12+ years in a public school system where they are taught daily that there is no need to respect authority and there is no meanigful punishment for wrongdoing. Any parent who loves their child will not use this pathetic excuse for an educational system. A carefully chosen, and, yes, expensive, private education will teach them respect, discipline, AND provide them with a quality education as well. To attempt to cast the blame on guns, video games, etc. is total nonsense. Certainly, an individuals mental state is an important factor. But, a mentally stable person will not be motivated to commit heinous acts by a video game or movie. There is much evidence that indicates todays rising rates of mental issues among the young ( ADD, ADHD, etc.) are related to the numerous potentially harmful chemicals in our food supply. Maybe they should do something about that for starters.

Clarification: I am referring to the USA public school system. I have no first hand knowledge of educational systems in other countries.

While 'americans' proclaimed property an unalienable right to human beings, 'americans' went on the biggest land grabbing spree ever.

well, like post-modern economics, psychology cannot by any stretch of the imagination be called a science. So every and anybody can be an expert. When you have "scientific" terms like "coping skills", defined by the hippies, as in "I can't cope, man!" being used in psychology & psychiatry, it's a bit absurd.

but having worked with young men who have brain injuries, often multiple times over, who come from backgrounds of broken homes, abuse, sexual and otherwise, you ask what do we do with the people whose families can't or won't take care of them that can't go out into the community, live independently, and have to take drugs for anger issues etc? You create a home for them with staff who come in and make life good for them. In frontal lobe brain injury from car accident; or in clients who have Aspergers or other forms of autism there are definite symptoms of lack of a judgmental prohibition, that should occur in the executive decision-making process of a normal brain, where inappropriate sexual and violent urges are blocked. But their anger can be irrational and explosive. We need home health aids for the mentally ill who are living at home to administer drugs in the home. Parents of such need help thru staff spending time with their loved one.

It's not the video games per se that are the problem, or the alienation that's part of our age. Adam Lanza should never have had access to guns. If Adam Lanza was not prescribed drugs for his anger he should have been. Adam Lanza fell thru the cracks in the system bec his mother was solitary.

After spending 10 minutes watching a 12 year playing call of duty, I have NO sympathy for this "game".  But humans beings must be able to distinguish between reality and fantasy to function on any level.  Anyone who can't is simply not fully formed.  When you make 300 million brains, some of them aren't going to work right, and some of those defective people will be dangerous.

But what is driving this is the fame and perverse  "glory" we lavish on these psychopaths.  That's what drives the next one to his insane act.  It is not the guns, or the imagined insults, or video games.  It's the fame they get from following in the footsteps of the last pathetic psycho.   Take away the guns and they'll start using cross bows, fertilizer bombs or crashing cars into school buses.  This is turning into a secret army, each one trying to out-do the last for recognition in their "honor roll".

We are brining this insanitiy on ourselves.  Stop glorifying these guys and the insanity will eventually retreat back into obscurity.

The capacity of 'AnAnonymicans' to dissociate from reality and fully embrace the infractures of fantasy is somehow, in the orthography of Chinese citizenism propagandations, very telling. Ummm this capacity can be supportive or can be not, and the question was to see if they could pay themselves.

Physically unremarkable, it instead possesses a deformed set of values. Notice the hideously bloated sense of humanity's importance. Also note the club-footed social conscience and the withered optimism. It's certainly not for the squeamish, is it? Most repulsive of all, are its frail and useless notions of order and sanity. If too much weight is placed upon them... they snap. How does it live, I hear you ask? How does this poor pathetic specimen survive in today's harsh and irrational environment? I'm afraid the sad answer is, "Not very well." Faced with the inescapable fact that human existence is mad, random, and pointless, one in eight of them crack up and go stark slavering buggo! It's not an issue of whether we played war, or threw rocks at each other when we were young because we were bored.  We didn't have to know what a central banker was when we grew up.  The streets were not filled with the homeless.  There was a middle class then.  Most of us didn't grow up in one parent families.  We didn't hear profanity in public all the time, or see it and vile sexual activity on the TV all the time.  We actually had a Constitution.  There were laws, and people weren't as open about violating them or creating a double standard between the rich and poor about who pays taxes, or who goes to jail.

People are shooting each other because your society is  failing.  Your society is failing because it is growing old and it is time for it to fail.  Time for wars.  Time to die.  Sorry, that's the  way history works, when society ceases to expand, the contraction is inevitable.  Stop looking for meaning in the magazine capacity of a gun, or in a video game.  Millions of people all over the world own these guns and play these games and never hurt anyone.  This is a real bad time for people who love their country, and their people to surrender to mob think and mob behavior.  However, it's a real good time for people with no respect for the law to get what they want, total control of your life.

Attack of the Drones War Part II

Here comes Christmas and who knows what else folks.

Things are really heating up in the kitchen of chaos, what with this gun ban battle and false flag event in Newtown, CT. We are all sorry for what happened to those people but the truth is, the real and only reason for the mass killings are the SSRI drugs these kids are all taking.

http://www.ssristories.com/index.php

Babylon is at a quick paced full on assault on the Second Amendment. We are hearing about the head puppet trying to use color of law orders to supersede the Constitution, the real law of the land, by implementing some sort of gun control. Why? So we will be weakened by our own govt working for the babylonian globalists that are about to embroil us into more world war with the chinese and russians. It will be easier to conquer the country after the seditious american citizenry is disarmed. That was part of the deal when the babylonians were getting war money from the chinese. The communists in the white house had to quell those evil americans before the chinese and russian invasion comes, otherwise the invasion would be in doubt of succeeding. It all could come in UN blue too.

Red Alert!! Obama GUN CONFISCATION Starts Jan 1, 2013:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddlqz1X5KjY

Take away America’s only ways of defending it’s populations and the conquering will be a lot easier shooting these fish in the barrel. All according to the plan of course. These evil things pit everyone against each other and then come and kill off the rest of those who served them just before they take over everything. Same cycles of the two previous world wars. We are collectively too stupid to learn from history anymore that it is the same old Cesarean divide and conquer methodology to subdue and take over nations resources and lands. The new twist is, they also know the crash is coming and do not want people to have the ability to go after the real criminals in govt. We should have already done what Iceland did.

http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/przion1.htm

But it may not go as planned:

Exclusive: Cops, detectives, FBI agents, U.S. soldiers tell Natural News they will not enforce gun confiscation orders:

http://www.naturalnews.com/038391_gun_confiscation_executive_orders_cops...

Another aspect not to forget is the Federal Reserve has done it’s job of destroying this country and indebting it into an endless hole of woe-is-me. They may have hyped the 2012 thing to be a cover for the real crash of the Fed Res as planned. The charter was only to last one hundred years and then it is a done deal. Crash and profit as they leave the rest of the country to battle amongst themselves and then come back and take control later after the chaos has played out it’s course. Pretty simple evil. Same world war cycle, only this time america is being set up to lose.

What we are always looking at is the signs on the wall. We all see the gun issue now, but who is looking at the middle east preparations for war as this is being written? A war to cover the crash. As planned. One very concerning sign is the quick rising of the oil prices. Normally, and because the oil barons always know what is coming before it happens, the prices shoot up towards the sky just before a major event, or war related event happens. They want to profit and plunder as much as possible before everything goes crazy. These evil monsters are sucking the nation dry like a giant squid vacuum of all monies, so no one can be empowered to stop them. The price of crude just shot up $4.00 since its low last week. It is still on the rise as the metals are on the sinking low. Makes one wonder who is selling massive amounts of silver and gold now to cash in before everything comes crashing down?

http://www.bloomberg.com/energy/

We also saw this article yesterday that is very concerning. Here is the story of an innocent girl and her family that was traumatized for nothing. These storm trooper crazies shot at and almost killed a teenage girl for no specific reason, other than they were serving a search warrant. They still have not said what it was for, and there appears to be no apparent reason for this horrible act of violence and tyranny. It looks more like a training operation for what is coming to EVERYONE’S’ DOOR SOON!

SWAT team fires semi-automatic weapons at unarmed teenage girl:

http://rt.com/usa/news/swat-teenage-girl-hughley-906/

Reading into the article, we see an alarming and powerful statement made by one of the marauders that invaded and attacked this girl. The report says he said, “She’s got a gun” and this was the triggering statement that sent these guys into a shark like feeding frenzy shooting at everything in an insane and uncontrolled way. Don’t forget that a lot of these evil drones are seasoned killers of women and children from the Iraq war who were specifically conditioned like lab rats to kill, and be heartless murderers for this very exact specific reason of the coming War on Americans. At any time, anywhere, any one of these horrible fbi killers can make this statement ‘they got a gun’ about anyone in any situation to bring down all hell fire on anyone they want to remove, or kill for any reason at all. One at a time, no one stands a chance. The disease of division has gone viral in America and now it is ripe to fall to itself…one by one. With the anti-constitutional laws they think are real written the way they are now, ANYONE can be murdered this way for any reason at all. There is no truth, justice, or rule of law anymore. We have effectively slipped into chaos and soon the hellish repercussions of a dead at the wheel nation will come to bare on the ignorant.

What is coming to america will be far, far worse than what happened in nazi germany. Those same banksters that created nazi germany, have now created nazi amerika. Do you get it people? Here is the exact tool and methodology of the babylonians that will come in the early morning, or any other time of day to murder you, or your family just because you believe you still have any rights at all. No one is going to escape the horrendous murderous beast that is going to come to your door eventually. Here is the evil that can say about anyone, “she has a gun” and then kill you without any recourse, or anyone caring.

Texas troopers subject women to roadside cavity searches after routine traffic stop (VIDEO):

http://rt.com/usa/news/texas-women-roadside-cavity-422/

Change!

We are slipping into something worse than the nazi evil germany ever was. This is the most wicked murderous empire state of evil that has ever come into creation in this world. AMERICA IS THE GREAT EVIL SATAN THEY SAY WE ARE. Own it! All you have to do is sit there and some day they will kick in your door and scream, you got a gun and kill you and yours with no one knowing anything but what the propagandists will blab in the next days news rag, if anything is even said at all. People will shrink in horror and hope they are not next. Stupid is as stupid does and they too will succumb to the beast eventually.

It is and has been a real shame to watch this nation slowly fall into the hell it is fast bound for. Truly, there are solutions and answers to every major problem there is. What are the chances of calling all the troops home for Christmas, instead of lining them up on the Syrian chessboard? Slim to none because the nation is struggling to survive and under too much duress to even care about anything but their own self serving ways and habits of the lazy. Most are hopelessly addicted to the TV drug and know not what comes soon. Sheep for the slaughter.

Will we as a Nation survive? Think about it. All you and your families have established over time can and will more than likely be wiped out in one night. Hundreds of years of traditions gone in an bloody instant. The evil take over of first your states, then your counties and towns will happen and no one is going to rescue you or save you from the coming holocaust. The wicked babylonian beast is about to do something horrible according to all the signs that are shaping up. Feel free to add to the list of these signs and pass this information on.

Violent video games are training for the "best" employment opportunities. The "best" employment opportunities for young people are to join the police and/or army (which are becoming the same thing) so that they can legally kill other people and destroy things. The legalized lies and legalized violence are always orders of magnitude greater than the still illegal forms of those. The ways that fraud and force are legalized are the primary reasons behind the manifestations of the illegal forms of the same things.  Profound changes in the basic paradigms of militarism are necessary. Our murder systems are becoming more and more mad. An aspect of that madness is to not perceive that reality always must have some murder system. Young people today are born into an increasingly psychotic society, which is controlled by runaway triumphant systems of financial frauds, backed by force. The aberrations reveal the basic structure of what is happening. Furthermore, they therefore point out what necessarily has to happen, and thus, that which could only be done better, not stopped completely.

Right...if people, especially children, stop playing video games world peace will spontaneously happen, the markets will all rise, and the central bankers will discover their error of their ways and retire. Art is a genius!

Before TV and before Radio, people have killed people in the most gruesome manners you could imagine and in ways you could neither imagine nor fathom...

this is a poor attempt at diversion from guns to games by substituting the scapegoated subject for another. what is this "fix by ban" attitude supposed to achieve? perhaps lack of parental attention for years needs to be examined more closely.

I just realized Pinball was the gateway game for many people.  That and playing cards.  Before that was jacks and marbles.  What is this world coming to when we let the kids play with a hoop and a stick?!?!  Witchcraft I say!!!!

Every single time a crazed shooter turns out to have played FPS video games, the correlation gets pinned as causative by "experts" in the media.

Every

Single

Time

Every "expert" sees a connection and demands that a study be done before, you know, bothering to wonder whether or not several million other "experts" haven't already had the same thought, demanded the same thing, and also not bothered to see what's in the literature from real investigation before sounding off like idiots. Dozens of studies establish no clear causative association (summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_controversies )

The "experts" also haven't bothered to look at violent crime statistics and notice that all forms of violent crime in the USA (including murder) have been declining steeply for the last 20 years, at a time when violent video game sales are surging.

I can play this "expert" game too: if you just look at history you can see that all the murderers were BREATHING prior to committing their crimes. So we just need to regulate breathing!! I mean, think about it, if the killers weren't allowed to breathe in the first place then they couldn't kill anyone could they? It's so obvious! I'm just as smart as Art Cashin!

Maybe Art should try reading and thinking before opening his mouth.

If it isn't the games, they'll bitch about posts on websites.

WWI occurred fine without video game training ... same the US civil war.

Suspect video games and guns have nothing to do with the propensity for humans to seek to indulge violence, if they have been treated badly.

Perhaps treating people like shit might have something to do with it.  Did any one thing this might be the solution.

Seriously now; perhaps we could ban smarmy sit-coms that love to take the piss out of maladjusted kids and adults, like the shooter in this case?

Why is that not just as valid a concern to get all huffy-puffy about?

Tell me.
