The Section Preventing Indefinite Detention of Americans Without Trial Removed From Final NDAA Bill

Tyler Durden's picture

Via Michael Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

While the Feinstein-Lee Amendment wasn’t perfect, it was a small step forward as I outlined in my piece:  My Thoughts on the Feinstein-Lee Amendment to the NDAA.  Amazingly, this small victory has been stripped out of the final bill by our “representatives.”  If this doesn’t prove without a shadow of a doubt that this government is criminal and wants the power to lock up citizens without trial I don’t know what will.  From the Huffington Post:

WASHINGTON — Congress stripped a provision Tuesday from a defense bill that aimed to shield Americans from the possibility of being imprisoned indefinitely without trial by the military. The provision was replaced with a passage that appears to give citizens little protection from indefinite detention.

The new provision appears to do little, because the Supreme Court has already declared that the writ of habeas corpus — requiring that someone be presented to a judge — applies to all people. The more difficult part of whether people deserve a trial remains unsettled, and the new provision does not appear to resolve it.

Could their intentions be any more clear?

Interviews with average Americans

What do average Americans want from their government?

John Dartwood, age 59, AL

America needs to start facing the hard reality of the threat of terroristic activity in this country. Terrorism is foreign AND domestic. There's terrorism everywhere, not just overseas. If somebody criticized our foreign policy, that's terrorism. If somebody threatened our government or the CYA, that's terrorism. It's a mindset - you got to see the threats to America before you can see it. Terrorism is serious business. We need to increase our national security and support our military. Terrorists are ruthless, and our national security measures need to be ruthless too.

I find that reading the actual, real opinions of naive sheople that you post is cathartic, in a comedy club sort of way, MDB.

Things that go bump's picture

If you change the word terrorist in these debates to witch, I think you will find the beginnings of a similar dynamic at work here as there was during the great witch burnings of 1450-1750 when whole towns were wiped out.

Once you are labeled, it won't be just the named "terrorists" they round up.  I believe they will round up everybody they find at home, the better to instill terror in the rest of the population.  People will learn to keep their mouth shut and their heads down if they are endangering more than themselves.  If tortured to give up names of associates, remember, a useful tactic used during the great witch burnings of 1450 - 1750 was to name the parents, siblings, spouses, and children of town officials and other important people.  It probably won't save you, but you might have postmortum revenge.  Cold comfort.

All 535 of them have at least indirectly bankrupted a hell of a lot more than 2 businesses.

Source please?  It isn't that I don't believe it possible, but there are a lot of internet memes that are just made up.

Edit: Snopes There are times that I have found Snopes to be less that reliable but this seems to have been floating around since 2007.

It isn't that I don't believe you but if we could get support for each of these it would make a great facebook update.

But it just happens to be that Diane Feinstein is a San Fransicko Democrat.  Look Nanny Bloomberg said he was a Republican, before he extended his own term limits and became independent.

When they kick out your front door, how you gonna come?

With your hands on your head, or on the trigger of your gun?

Things that go bump's picture

"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? After all, you knew ahead of time that those bluecaps were out at night for no good purpose. And you could be sure ahead of time that you'd be cracking the skull of a cutthroat. Or what about the Black Maria sitting out there on the street with one lonely chauffeur--what if it had been driven off or its tires spikes?

The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if... We didn't love freedom enough..."

figure I'd add the rest for those who don't follow the link:

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, Guns of Brixton -From the Clash's "guns of brixton", 1977

To each his own.  Here is my choice...

STRAUSS & CO.'s extra slim Needle Files allow easy excess to complicated areas. They are used for grinding different metals and hard materials such as: Tungsten Carbide, Steels of 40 Hrc and harder, ceramic materials, glass etc.

Makes an excellent stocking stuffer, so to speak.  One should probably put a cork on that sharp tip, as you cannot be too careful when dealing with such "delicate" matters.

Indefinite detention of American citizens is back.

And final passage of the bill will be voted on TODAY.

If the statists succeed in passing the NDAA, the federal government will be given the authority to lock up Americans and throw away the key, Buhbye Habeus Corpus...

Call your douchebag Senator NOW at 202-224-3121
And while you're at it, give Senator McCain a call at (202) 224-2235.

Tell him our Bill of Rights is not something that can be cherry-picked at his convenience - and demand he stop shredding our Constitution.

"They hate us for our freedoms", that applied to a country called America. But what we have become is something else altogether. Maybe name it "Serf-ia", or "Surveill-istan"...or maybe "Gun-Nut-ia"

but the name "America" no longer applies I'm afraid
