White House Petition To Deport Piers Morgan Passes Threshold, Now At 60,000 Signatures

Tyler Durden's picture

Frankly we have no idea what this is all about, because as far as we are concerned, CNN long ago became a politicized, ratings-starved farce, wrapped in a joke inside a humiliation (after once upon a time being the only go to place for objective breaking news), but it is rather funny. The Hill reports that "a White House petition calling for the deportation of CNN personality Piers Morgan, a U.K. citizen, over his recent comments criticizing U.S. gun laws rocketed past the 25,000 signatures it needed for an official response Monday. As of this writing, nearly 40,000 people had signed a petition demanding “Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.” A petition on the White House's “We the People” website needs 25,000 signatures in the first month of being posted to earn an official administration response. “I don't care about petition to deport me,” Morgan tweeted Monday. “I do care about poor NY firefighters murdered/injured with an assault weapon today. #GunControlNow.”

Politico adds:

CNN anchor Piers Morgan isn’t benefiting from much Christmas cheer, at least according to one measure: the number of signers on a petition urging the White House to deport Morgan has skyrocketed by Tuesday morning past 60,000 names.

The petition, created last week, had 60,080 supporters and is posted on the White House’s official petition site. It slams Morgan for comments he has made regarding gun control in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 20 children and six adults at the school.

By Monday, the petition had passed at least 25,000 signatures — the number required to receive a White House response.

Back to The Hill:

The furor over Morgan’s comments began after a contentious interview between the CNN host and Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America.

During the interview on his CNN show, "Piers Morgan Tonight," Morgan hammered Pratt and his defense of the 2nd Amendment and American gun laws.

"The argument I keep hearing is 'well if everybody else was armed, it wouldn't happen.' It's a load of total hogwash," Morgan told Pratt and other gun rights advocates who appeared on the show.

"How many more kids have to die, before you guys say, 'we want less guns, not more?'" Morgan added.

His comments came as Pratt and others discussed the recent Sandy Hook School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, in which 27 people -- including 20 young children -- were shot by 20-year old Adam Lanza.

So let's see: a Brit unhappy with the Second Amendment and knowing best how to override the US constitution?

More importantly in this case, a Brit desperate to stir up a popular response and any social outcry for those all important TV ratings and, of course, the year end bonus?

Well, he achieved his goal.

Those who wish to endorse making Morgan a UK problem can do so here.

We expect a counterpetition by UK citizens demanding that Morgan be prevented from reentering his homeland at all costs, to appear momentarily.

If you can get it up to 640000000 he will get a very large raise, the message is unimportant, emotional expression is the game here, it diverts people from `uncimfortable` subjects, and lets them feel, they are `Doing` something.

I have never been more excited to sign a petition. I respect his right to his opinion and the free speech to defend his position. His blatant disrespect for his guests is sickening. He has no class and is a true wh0re for the camera. Nice try in creating yourself as an edgy difference maker Piers. You are really just a wanker.

With this publicity he is on a roll, I correct my previous post, who ever concieved this and started it rolling will be getting a nice bonus for sure, if it really catches on there will be a substantial raise in the furture for Piers, I think he will soon be more famous than Paris Hilton or Lady Gaga, that is real power! He may go a long way, if he sticks to the script!

If the Obama Whitehouse can return a bust of Winston Churchill to the brits, surely something truly as offensive as a "Piers Morgan" can be boxed up and returned as well.

Somewhere in England a village has gone missing its idiot. Now that it has been located, should we not assist by repatriating him?

Moreover, does anyone really care what "Piers Morgan" thinks about anything?  He's just pissed his ass got kicked as hard as it did by Larry Pratt.

If Americans want to deport people over the undermining of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, they ought to start with the President and 99% of the Congressional body. They can then move on to Eric Holder, Tim Geithner and the rest of that crew. More than 60,000 idiots have focused on the wrong guy! Honing in on Piers Morgan and ignoring what our elected officials are doing is just what I've come to expect of my fellow Americans. They turn a blind eye to indefinite detention without charge or trial and yet are up in arms when someone (a talk show host no less) exercises free speech and expresses an opinion (short sighted though that opinion might be). #Idiots

I happen to think America's situation with guns goes way beyond ridiculous.

However, when it comes to Piers Morgan, I think Stephen Fry said it best.  Fry on a british game show called "I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue."  They were playing a game called "New Definitions,"  Fry was given the word "Countryside" to make up a new definition.  He said something like, "The murder of Piers Morgan."  If you don't get it say the word out loud.

The Limeys hate Piers Morgan, and I'd say he's more than earned their emnity.  I can't stand him either.  As to his opinions on our gun culture, I'd reference the blind squirrel theorem.  But yeah, we'd be better off without him.

The US, once a beacon of freedom, is getting scary. The government has gone crazy and the people who don't like the government are scary too.

I don't know who is scarier! Let's call it a tie. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this petition is scary and hypocritical since the people signing it think they are some type of freedom fighter. I wonder if this is how Germany was like in 1927-8, when the Nazi party was first gaining traction. (And I'm not saying the petition signers are talking about rounding up Jews, I'm comparing their thugish actions.) The petition is thuggery. And anyone who signs it is a thug and a bully who doesn't give shit about freedom. Except their own freedom. Just like the...[insert any fascist, communist, regime] here.

I agree with your first paragraph completely. As for the second, how can you say the government has gone completely crazy and then say the people who dont like it are scary? I'm a nice person, don't want to tell other people how to live their lives or what opinions to have. I despise the government myself, but im hardly a scary person. I just want to be left alone by people hundreds of miles away that think they can be all things to all people and think there wont be major problems associated with that line of thinking. Is that so scary? I dont think so.

I wonder when your words come back to haunt you and you are deported or rounded up in 10 years or so when some real tyrant takes over our country on the backdrop of another, much more horrible collapse if this kinda thing will still be funny. I bet it won't be. But since it's not you laugh away. Remember my words when you are lined up on a wall one day and killed for telling a joke. Hopefully that never happens but the way this country reacts emotionally like an hysterical woman to every single issue no matter how small, I can't help but wonder how much longer we have as a free people. And don't give me crap about we aren't free now, we certainly are in most respects where it matters, like speaking your mind...wait, scratch that. I'm talking real tyranny not soda size restrictions. Watch "The Lives of Others" about the Stasi and you'll see what I mean. You'll generally smart YC, kinda dissapointed.

Are you suggesting I disrespect those of Jewish faith? If so you are sadly mistaken.

Tue, 12/25/2012 - 16:36 | 3095141 Rick Masters
Rick Masters's picture

This is why I hate using Nazi analogies: no, i wasn't saying that you have problems with people of jewish faith. The Nazis had a well-oiled machine of brownshirts, thugs, who indimidated people long before they ever came to power (exactly what is happening to Morgan). I use them as they are the most well-known but every tyrannical group has them. the Nazis were just particuarly efficient. But people get emotional and can't seperate the 1920s Nazis from the 1936 Nazis after The Night of the Long Knifes. And yes, when you make jokes don't leave out of Boston, a clear refernce to the Boston tea Party, I guess, i think you find it funny. And your shotgun or anything else isn't going to help you if some tyrannical gov't comes to power and fools a bunch of fools into fighting for them and have drones and guns that see around corners (Thanks Israel). Unless you have a TOW missile you'd be fucked. I just don't undertsand why there is a petition to deport someone for speaking his opinion. I find it incredibly scary and I find it disgusting. People should be allowed to say whatever they want. I support every amendment in the constition; not just the ones I find it convenient to and the ones I like. Unless it endagers a riot people should be able to speak freely without being bullied bu thugs who make a mockery of our system. The only way you can't say what you want is if it may cause a riot as was decided in Chaplinsky vs. New Hampshire. But i digress. Like I said, hope it never happens. Merry Christmas.

 Merry Christmas Rick,

May I digress? My (Remington 870-Wingmaster pump 12-guage), will in fact help me .

Regarding the "Boston Tea Party".

The English couldn't meddle any more in their own lives, so they export their missery and FOOD to the United States.

In 10/20 years, when the English are over-run again, they will be begging for arms to protect themselves against a new foe.

I was in London 6 months ago, and was amazed at the number of cameras for surveilance. (Mayfair/ St.James/Piccadilly)areas.

James, the United States isn't "Merry Olde England". The guy Ref; [Piers Morgan] was controversial from the start. He has a big mouth, and put his foot in it.

But isn't the petition the sole means for (now over 60K) people to express their opinion back at Piers?  It's not like they can all have their own hour-long show to do it.  That said, I will never waste my time with any of these silly petitions.  The best thing to do if you hear an opinion on the idiot box you dislike is to either change the channel, or far more effectivly to cancel your cable and switch to free over-the-air broadcast HD.  I watch a combo platter of Al Jazeera an a Japanese (but in English) broadcast news program now (but prefer a combo of a few sites like this for true analysis).

Oh, and were you being sarcastic when you said "if" a tyrannical gov comes to power?  Just drive north on I-295 in D.C. past Joint Base Bolling-Anacostia and glance to the right at the mostrous new DHS HQ that is being built, and then left at the monstrous Defense Intelligence Agency, and you'll know where we are in that continuim of tyranny.  For years I've heard folks say we're on the descent like the Roman Empire...BS...we're just about to pass the Rubicon.

That may will be true enough and those folks that have signed the 'petition' have bought a one way ticket to hell along with most of the posters in ZH that are already on THE LIST.  However, these folks will have a choice when the times come.

This is why protecting what is left of the 2nd amendment against the forces of tyranny is the last insurance card you folks have.  Civil War Redux may be comming around sooner that we all think.  The only alternative is state secession which would allow folks to peacefully decide in which camp they wish to be.

So the question is, when they come to seize your only means of real protection against force, will you go quietly into the night or make your stand.  That will be the only test.  How would a Ruby Ridge play out in 2013? Would they be left to be slaughtered would some folks say enough is enough?

Time to reflect on the writings of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

Agreed foxmuldar.  But therein is the rub.  Would any others stand up this time around?  Even if a a dozen or so trucks or a few hundred on foot had come along and stood between the ATF thugs and those kids at WACO or at the Ruby Ridge massacres.  Al on National Television, they would have been exposed for at least for the world to see. Lots of signs, 2nd amendment an all that, but like the Alamo there is a certainly the chance that deadly force would be used upon them all.

A freedom based stand, like what happened at Kent State May 4 1970 against the Vietnam war, the thugs would have to make a hard decision with consequences.  How would Eric Holder react to the same scenarios in 2013?

Merry Xmas to you and your family.

There are 13,000 gun murders a year in the US. What nobody says is the smallest estimate of warding off an attacker/home invader with a gun is 60,000 a year. That is the conservative estimate! Why does no one respond with "Why is the incidence of rape double per capita in GB than that of the US? Or, why are assaults per capita more than double in GB than in the US?"

One third of all murders in the US are done without a gun.

Most mass murderers in the last 40 years have been on anti-depressants.

We should ban autos too because they kill more each year than guns.

Why doesn't any one mention that the number of murders in the US has declined 37% since 1992 while the population has risen 20%.

The FBI website has loads of tables to sort though and it is obvious that

despite what the MSM news says violence has dropped dramatically.

Piers is a lying, corrupt political piece of shit.  If they deported people like him, the USA would be a better nation... because 90% of the politicians and bankers would have to go at the same time.  Especially the "Coward of benghazi".

hoping for many more happy times like above but worry it could only be fond memories going forward.

Bill, so I take it you know what's fuckin' what??????

Face it you're possibly a statist. That's ok, just don't force your views on me that is all I ask (that's where the Guns can come in handy but then that makes me a 'conspiracist').  Happy to hear your argument because that's what this site was always about I thought.

Let’s just play along with Obama’s gun control plan & watch what happens. All pilot gun control programs have resulted in higher crime rates.

This sign could be replaced from neighbor to democratically elected US politician.

LOL Atomizer.  I suggest that the central planners in the State of California immediately legislate to enable a fast track resource consenting process for such signs and make them tax deductible.

What happened to freedom of speech? Isn't that also protected by the constitution? Everyone in this country is entitled to say the most outrageous things ... except when they are not because a violent group of the population is ready to intimidate the rule of law using guns? Is that called a democracy?

If americans were as concerned about knowing how do to something as they are about knowing how to shoot a gun, perhaps this country could become once again the manufacturing capital of the world.

Perhaps I am giving away my non-american origins, but all these discussions in the aftermath of a massacre of children is yet another sign of how insensitive this society has become to solidarity and compassion, while been so preoccupied in individualism and selfishness.

Throw Piers out and let him go back to England so he can put his forehead down on the prayer rug alongside John Bull while they both get cornholed by some hadji muslim fucktard they let into their country.

Yes, Piers can say whatever he wants while he's here; but if he chooses to espuse the same kind of bullshit that let to John Bull being a dhimmi in his own country then we should be able to kick Piers back to the island.

This is not about gun control per se; this is about some stupid moron brit fucktard advocating the same stupid policy nonsense that let the english become strangers in their own country.

But there is no threat at all but look at the sheep willing to dump On Somebody who has an opinion they don't like and affirm that itis ok to persecute and punish somebody because they have Veiws not lliked .

look at all the out of control irrational comments over nothing except a person that has obnoxious views. You all want him harmed because of what he thinks.

This article is a very big fail for whoever wrote it for ZH- as it is the very opposite of what appeared to be the original basis and attraction of ZH-

This is very Much like how TPTB would use the MSM to use the people•

So how about an amendment then to freespeach rights in the Constitution that puts Some restrictions • say there should be heavy punishment for anybody who says something against anything in the Constitution- say gun control. Then later maybe different parts of the constitution•

Nobody is talking about jailing him or killing him for his opinions. Americans just want him shipped back to his homeland for his opinions. He can say whatever he wants from across the pond.

We would also like to have the choomer in chief shipped back to his homeland for his opinions.

Consider, only abouyt 16% of the US population (51 mil) voted for that myulatto. Tallk about tyranny of the few!
