Obama To Assign Fault; Propose Plan D, Different From Last Friday's Plan C - Live Webcast
We would expect the ingredients of the speech to be a pinch of self-denigration mixed with 6 fluid ounces of 'millionaires-and-billionaires', and a quart of "it's the other guys' fault." This coming from the man who precisely a week ago announced he would propose a "scaled down" plan, which today turned out was a complete lie: some leadership. Nevertheless. it will be interesting to see how his 'new' plan, same as the 'old' plan, is different from the 'new new' plan-to-come as he pushes the Senate to propose a 'new new new' deal that will really be a 'skinny irrelevant' deal - no doubt heralded by all asunder as a 'grand new' deal. Though it appears we should have no fear as McConnell and Reid are working on it and McConnell is "hopeful and optimistic." Farce!
For those who missed it, here is the WSJ rundown:
President Barack Obama said "the hour for immediate action is here" on a deal to avert the fiscal cliff. The president said he remains "optimistic" that an agreement can be reached in Congress before a looming year-end deadline to avoid tax increases and spending cuts.
If Congress can't reach a deal, the president said Congress should allow a vote on a basic package that would preserve tax cuts for middle-class Americans while extending unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless and working toward a foundation for a broader deal. Senate leaders said they hope to reach a compromise that could be presented to lawmakers by Sunday, little more than 24 hours before the deadline.

As I said before, they have formed a hedgehog defense in response to the 2012 elections. This is the LAST opportunity they will have to break the Constitution, and they are not about to pass it by. Probably what will happen, once we go over the cliff and the ceiling is not raised, is that Obama will proclaim a national economic emergency. He brings everyone back on his supposed reduced deal. Yet, he does not have a reduced deal. He only has his original deal.
He said in the Press Confrence that the Congress and the Senate were going to work on a deal. IF they cannot come to an agreement then he wants them to vote on his original deal. Put his deal to the Congress for an up or down vote.
That deal gives him everything he wants including no Debt Ceiling over site from Congress for 2 years. He is hoping that the Republicans will vote for HIS plan to avoid all of the Tax hikes on almost all Tax Paying Americans. He has pushed it down to the wire where they will feel pressure to cave to his demands to save the Average American or made to look like they are against saving the Average American Taxes.
If I was in the Congress I would vote down any deal that gave him the authority of Congress to spend the nations money without the approval of Congress.
I disrespect him for using the tactic of having a reduced plan and then pulling it away like Lucy and the football with Linus. Just to try to get a vote on his plan all along. This is in my opinion dishonest, manipulative and not fitting behavior of the President of our United States.
Obama has always wanted to go over the cliff - there was never going to be a deal prior to 1/2/13 (at the earliest).

Once we go over the cliff, then the Republicans are forced to accept whatever Obama wants since they can't override a veto or even get a vote in the Senate unless Obama wants it.

I recognize that using soundbites like "millionaires and billionaires" in the ongoing debate provides a huge serving of red meat for the Democratic base.
