Gun Sales Background Checks Hit Record

Tyler Durden's picture

A Fiscal Cliff "deal" that reduces GDP and squeezes the consumers; a Fed whose policies have forced massive capital misallocation away from growth investment and are leading to an unprecedented corporate "revenue cliff"; and now, in the aftermath of the government response to the Newtown massacre which threatened to curb the second amendment, we get this via Reuters:

Because when everything is an unintended consequence, nobody has to take any responsibility for anything. And so the New Normal marches on.

More from Reuters:

The number of FBI background checks for U.S. gun purchases set a record in December, as the Connecticut school massacre prompted renewed talk of limits on firearms, according to new FBI data.

The FBI said it recorded 2.8 million background checks during the month, surpassing the record set in November of 2 million checks. The number was up 49 percent over December 2011, when the FBI performed a then-record 1.9 million checks

For 10 - 20 cents on the dollar?  Naah, I'll just keep any gun I own.

Meanwhile, the gungrabbers have posited a new source of revenue in all of these registrations...the registrants themselves. Part of the Colorado apparat has deemed gun registration as a new source of revenue to fund the mental health industry. See, it is too cheap to comply with the laws, so the fees must go up ad infinitum.

This may be drawn out nationally in short order as the crisis is passing fast...unless there just happens to be another soon. You know, just coincidentally and in the same way Lou Gherig managed to get Lou Gherig's disease...I mean, what are the odds?

There WILL be more mass shooting incidents. (I'll leave it to the reader to decide if these are staged by TPTB, or are the product of unstable people pushed over the edge by Dear Leader's mismanagement of the economy.) There will be non-mass-shootings that will be exploited to further the gun control agenda.

unfortunately, i think you're absolutely right..... and probably sooner rather than later.

“…if you can’t provide the most basic assistance for your district, who needs you in Congress?”

Would Congressman Peter King be referring to districts such as California’s San Bernardino where the typical transition to a welfare-police state society is occurring?

San Bernardino, near Los Angeles, is the country seat of San Bernardino County, “the largest county geographically in the continental U.S.”  A few months back it became the largest U.S. city ever to file for bankruptcy. So far this year, there have been 46 homicides, a 50 percent increase in murders over the past year.

City Attorney for 25 years, Jim Penman in a recent interview spoke about the total collapse of a once-thriving city, and now has “come under fire for advising residents to lock their doors and load their guns.”

Because of the 1965 US Immigration Act and a Federal judge's overturning of California's Prop 187, demographics now play a major part in San Bernardino’s collapse: In 1970, 66 percent of the city was White, but by 2010, that figure sat at 19%. “In 1976,” explained Penman, “San Bernardino was named an All-American City.” Besides the White population, the city’s current makeup is 60% Hispanic, 15% Black, 3% Asian, and a smattering of other races.

Says Penman: “because of our financial situation, we’ve had to reduce the size of our police department…down about 80 officers” from a peak of about 350.

“We’ve had a lot of middle-class flight from the city. The demographics have changed considerably in San Bernardino. I hope it’s not a portent of things to come for other cities around the nation, I know that we’re not the only one that’s had to contemplate bankruptcy. We’re one of the few that have had to go into it, I hope we’re not followed by others, but we keep hearing that many other cities are looking into that possibility.”

California is essentially lost.  The productive should leave the state, unless they do not mind the high taxes and the high crime rates.

There is still room in rural California (the north) to Bug-Out to though...

Very true DoChen, my bug-out location is in North-eastern Cali and everyone I know there is preparing. Local deputy sheriff is a friend of the family and does not even keep up on the ever changing firearms laws. I asked him about the new open carry laws and he knew nothing about them and he said "anyway those are just for the cities" lol.

Next step is to abolish the 2nd amendment. They are already discrediting the tea party and move on to disarming any resistance to a dictator or tyrant.

Never going to happen.  It's stupid to even be discussing the matter.  Can't you see what is really going on?  The left is dying, not gaining strength.  They only appear strong because the free-shitters get paid to belong.  The moment the money stops, the left is dead.  And not just in the US, but worldwide.

I hope you are correct my man.  These people are so ***ing evil.

I hope both of you guys are right.

I won't be surprise if it's attempted (certainly, they're trying legislatively!) Though it will go down in flames, as even the diehard lefties get squeamish about tampering with the actual bill of rights (though they and the "right" side of the One Party are comfortable ignoring the BoR, deleting one or more amendments calls too much attention to them.)

I would argue that it's incorrect to say the left is dying, rather, large government is dying. They know it, but the general population doesn't. Since taxes cap out at 100% due to reality and death by starvation, and the government has promised more than this, the lies will be exposed. Presumably the government intends to remain in power by force, which is a heck of a lot easier when the population isn't shooting back.

Oldwood's picture

The only thing on the left that is dying are their mindless supporters. Unfortunately, their program makes new ones as fast as the kill off the earlier ones. Just as with our government system, the thing that ensures their success is their failure. Leftists have been using the poor and discriminated as a weapon to destroy our society. Motivate them to demand more and more until the system collapses. This has been their stated policy for a hundred years, but yet when is spoken of, people claim it is preposterous, that no sane person or group would do such a thing, yet we supposedly battle radical Muslims because they "hate us for our freedoms". And they will use whatever they have at hand to enforce their agenda. They have been intregal with the entertainment industry that has drowned us with the most insane violence imaginable, yet are the most vocal about taking our guns away from us. They have glorified every type of lethal device and action known to man and then demonize those of us who own guns expressly for our own protection. Not hunting but protection. Protection from the insanity of the images we see on TV and the actions of power hungry "protectionists" determined to protect us from ourselves. But you are right. It will never happen. And by all means we should end the discussion now!

fightthepower's picture

I junked you because you are underestimating a very dangerous enemy.  We all might end up in FEMA camps before the left dies.  They are a cornered animal and are therefore more dangerous than ever.

They do not need to "abolish" the 2nd Amendment any more than they needed to "abolish" the protections of habeas corpus or against cruel and unusual punishments...

"updating" the interpretation of the law will suffice for them.

I'd like to get half a dozen AR15 stripped lower receivers. My dad has offered to buy them. Haven't been to the local gun store yet. Scared to really... Scared to leave the house after the attempted break-in and scared to see empty shelves at the gun store. Still haven't set up my security cameras yet. I thought I got a good deal on two, but they turned out to be junk. Now I have to wait on more to arrive. All I have is my Glock to hold the fort down. Basically I've become a paranoid motherfucker... and I believe I have every justification to be one. Same as all you.

aerojet's picture

I think you might need a vacation.

MachoMan's picture

Get a dog...

Good luck on stripped lowers though...  it will take quite a while to score any.  I would suggest aluminum (or anything) instead of polymer.

Not sure why you're wanting stripped lowers though...  from the sounds of things, you need a home defense weapon and an ar 15 is not particularly well suited for that role if there are a few circumstances present, e.g. background/penetration.  You might consider a shotgun for that role...  and if you're not familiar with a pump gun, then get a semi auto...   ~18.5" barrel unless you want to go NFA.  Plenty of good potential suitors.

If you do not have to worry about some of the other factors, an AR should do just fine...

Just out of curiosity (as has been guestimated above) what are your plans regarding 6 stripped lowers?  Do you have any plans of selling them in the future?

seek's picture

I'd argue an AR is the perfect home defense weapon, 5.56 is actually less likely to overpenetrate or ricochet than virtually any other round (I realize this seem unintuitive, but it's genuinely the case as the bullet fragments radically upon impact with walls.) Those factors really aren't an issue.

Canucklehead's picture

The shotgun is the way to go.

MachoMan's picture

so it's your contention that xm855 (what should be in the magazine of every AR) penetrates walls less than #4 or #6 birdshot (a solid HD round)?

Freddie's picture

May  I suggest - Tactical Tracer XM856 .223/5.56 NATO ammunition.  You can see what you are shooting at.  you may burn down your house.

I used to be an NRA member but they are a bit soft compared to the GOA. The NRA sucks up to Hairy Reed in NV.  Anyway, their magazine always had stories about granny or gramps, home alone and some crack/meth head breaks in.  They usually start roughing up the old person.

Granny or gramps has an old .22 wheel gun and tells them to stop.  The old person shoots, guy stmpbles and dies in the yard.

I am not sure how many times I have read some version of that.  I guess any gun is better than no gun.  People saw a shotgun for home use but if a loved one is near the perp then maybe not such a good choice.

An accurate hit with a .22 or even .380 can work well.

And you would totally incorrect,Glasers/Frangible is the way for inside protectionWith an AR,or handguns), IF you live with others, and /or you live in an apartment complex/duplex.Any 5.56 round NATO spec will penetrate walls like a knife thu hot butter,as will any ball ammo, and hollow point, even out of a pistol/revolver,etc.

Your dead wrong. M193 barely penetrates two layers of sheetrock.

M855 would pose a problem, but just don't use that.
