Obama: "Now It's Personnel" - Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

Will the taxer-in-chief discuss the debt ceiling or will this 'personal' announcement be all Hagel/Defense and Brennan/CIA? Stay tuned...

Via Reuters:

President Barack Obama on Monday will nominate Republican Chuck Hagel as his next defense secretary and counterterrorism adviser John Brennan to head the CIA, two choices likely to stoke controversy as he fills out his second-term national security team.

The selection of Hagel, a maverick former senator and decorated Vietnam veteran tapped to replace Leon Panetta at the Pentagon, appears destined for a bruising Senate confirmation battle against critics who have already launched an onslaught over his record on Israel and Iran.

Obama could also face opposition from human rights groups over his choice of Brennan, a CIA veteran who withdrew from consideration for the spy agency's top job in 2008 after questions were raised about his views on enhanced interrogation techniques used on terrorism suspects during the Bush administration.

He would succeed retired General David Petraeus, who resigned amid a scandal over an extramarital affair with his biographer.

Obama, newly returned from his Hawaii vacation, will announce the two nominations at the White House on Monday afternoon, a senior administration official said. A "personnel announcement" was scheduled for 1:05 p.m. EST (1805 GMT).

The addition of Hagel and Brennan, along with Senator John Kerry as nominee for secretary of state, would round out Obama's national security team as he faces daunting challenges of winding down the war in Afghanistan, dealing with the Iranian nuclear standoff and curbing military spending.

Obama is backing Hagel for the Pentagon post despite the fact that the former Nebraska lawmaker, even before being nominated, had become a lightning rod for criticism from the left and the right.

Former Republican colleagues have joined pro-Israel groups and neoconservatives in questioning his commitment to Israel's security and slamming disparaging remarks about what he once called a "Jewish lobby" in Washington.

He has also come under fire for saying in 1998 that a nominee for an ambassadorial post was not qualified because he was "openly, aggressively gay" - a remark for which he has since apologized.

Obama's nomination of Hagel suggests that the president did not want to appear weak by seeming to bow to political opposition and being forced to pick someone other than his favorite contender for a top Cabinet post.

He backed down last month from a tough Senate confirmation battle over Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, his first pick to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, and instead settled on Kerry.

But the risk for Obama is that pushing Hagel's nomination could force him to expend political capital he needs more for his next round of fiscal showdowns with congressional Republicans.

...

The nomination of Brennan, who has served as Obama's chief White House counterterrorism adviser since the start of his first term, could also make waves in Washington.

Brennan was believed to have been Obama's top pick to lead the CIA when he took office. But human rights advocates contended that as a senior CIA official under President George W. Bush, Brennan was tainted by the agency's use of interrogation techniques like waterboarding that are widely considered to be torture.

Brennan denied any connection to the interrogation methods but removed his name from consideration.

Brennan, who has a close relationship with Obama, has since won praise for his role in helping to plan the 2011 raid in Pakistan that killed Osama bin Laden, something his supporters hope will quell criticism and keep his nomination on course.

"John Brennan's career of service and extraordinary record has prepared him to be an outstanding director of the CIA. ... Brennan has the full trust and confidence of the president," the senior administration official said. "For four years, he has seen the president every day, and been by his side for some of his toughest decisions."

Hagel is a great choice. He has balls enough to stand up to APAC and the war machine. I'm having second thought about Obama. Maybe he is going to reposition into sanity in the second term.

Lindsay Graham is closet FAGGOT btw. The guy reeks of homosexuality even off the TV. Not that I am homophobic , I'm just hypocrite-ophobic.

The Banksters have hijacked the world's Goverments and Criminal Politicians through Intelligence Operations, blackmail, racketering, murder, drugs, espionage, human trafficing, PsyOp, Flase Flags and funding/arming of terror organizations which they claim to be protecting us from.

 The stage is set for complete, total full spectrum World domination from The Global Elite. Understand the core reason these Criminals continue to rape, pillage and steal wealth is though Illusion/Cover. We are not THE UNITED STATES but we are The United States of America. It is not The Constitution of The United States, it is The Constitution For The United States of America. Notice the difference. Do you see the Cover/Illusion.

These Criminals have been hiding behind the Corportate version of The Constituiton. Get it? That's the Cover and the reason behind their Crimes Against Humanity and The American People. Ask yourselves, why CIA propaganda, misinfomation/disinfomation is so good? Because it works. And the Elite own the media and have it staffed with their CIA agents/Council of Foreign Relation stooges like Andersen Cooper and Dianne Sawyer. The PsyOp runs deep, very deep.

The American people can continue to stay divided and blame the puppets Obama/Bush. Like they have any say in the matter. Both parties are the same sides of the same coin, bought and paid for a long time ago by The Elite Orligarchs. These Criminals sold their souls long ago.

So, continue to follow their lies, cover stories and false narratives such as Osama Bin Laden. A convenient CIA funded and trained Operative, code name Tim Osman. Sorry, But I digress.

Divide and Conquer. That's the Elite's game.

Total Complete Full Spectrum World Domination.  Via The City of London. The financial location of The Banksters, which Wall Street is just an extension. They own the Military, Media and have put forth hundreds of years worth of planning to complete their goals of the aforementioned.

It began with The Fascist Patriot Act which morphed into The Military Commissions Act, John Warner Defense Act, NDAA, PD51, Torture, Illegal Wire Tapping etc..etc... You get the picture? We're dealing with pure Evil, which cannot be reasoned or negotiated with. Their goal was to break the sovereignty of The United States along with our good men and women of the Military while simultaneously ushering in their NWO protective force of Their Global Military/Police Force to protect their Corrupt system/Crimes Against Humanity. We're just their Debt Slaves. Divided and Conquered.

Your points are well made and well taken, Chupacabra.

It is the Declaration of Independence that is the most important document ever written and, ultimately, will be our salvation.

It was the blow by patriots against the centuries of monarchial tyranny over individual freedoms, and regardless of the failures and missteps taken by Americans since then, the American psyche identifies with this thirst and hope for freedom.

Ironically, the most errant steps of late have included the confirmation of a Supreme Court justice, Elena Kagan, who disputes any authority of the Declaration of Independence, favoring not only legalese of the U.S. Constitution but prides to model herself with another country’s chief justice, Aharon Barak of Israel – a country that has no constitution.

Christian Roman law protected the Jews’ autonomy but it also ruled that they must “restrain their rites, keeping them this side of contempt for the Christian Law.”  The Church issued a decree in 439 that “proclaimed as ‘valid forever’ a statute that declared Jews ineligible to hold any civil office that included power to judge or to pronounce sentence against Christians.”

Elena Kagan is an example of what happens when foreign interests take precedent in law over American interests.

Surely, these developments are bringing Americans now face to face with the destiny Mr. Jefferson envisioned, a free country governed by the people. The Hagel nomination is important because it will put the struggle of representative government back to the front burner.

Of Hagel’s many positions, some of which can certainly bring disagreement, his most outstanding statements have been to face down the Israeli lobby in favor of support for his American constituents and to bravely oppose his own party after seeing the direction of a disastrous war.

Please do not confuse sionists and jews. There are lot of Orthodox jews which are routinely beaten up by the sionists because they oppose this system, but no one would report when they demonstrate against the situation in Israel. The anti-semitic morons would not report on it nor would Ruppert Murdoch in fear people would question why some jewish orthodox would say the policy in Israel would only attract problems for the jewish community at large and that the sionist state should dismantled peaceful, both sides have no interset in reporting that. This is the biggest hoax of all, sionists have hijacked the jewish idenity and the jewish faith in the name of a giant country club network of sionists. Soros is wrongly put in teh same bag. He is just a brilliant speculator which will irremediably be leaning left because he grew up in Hungary during the nazi era.

So the sionists are going to be screeming bloody murder sure. But Rabbi Weiss is probably going to be relieved that a less aggressive position and more conciliatory position is adopted. The extremists always need each to sustain conflict. Extremists sionists have no interest in peace, nor extremists groups on the other side. If a good peacefull solution would be found they would be out of business!!!

I was waiting for him to take a dig at arithmetic (aka "enemy of the state"), with a line something akin to:

"We all know that the current level of [massive & debt accretive] governmental spending [and an incredibly bloated public sector along with a mammary gland-dependent bank-defense-healthindustry-WallStreet complex that is suffocating the private sector] is not the problem, nor is the problem that which the [dreadfully inefficient] governmental spending is used to [fail to] accomplish or [unnecessarily] purchase, but that our low level of taxation is the source of our ailment. If we raised marginal tax rates on the relatively few net-net taxpayers who remain amongst us to 90%, we'd raise enough additional revenue to reduce the increase in the national debt by 1% to 3% over the next 20 years."

Iraq? What's ancient history have to do with anything.

Is it really so hard for people to see that this is merely facade maintenance? He brings in an "anti-AIPAC" SecDef because it will provide cover for all of the "pro-AIPAC" activities to follow.

Without Hagel, Obummer would have to answer the charge that he is an "Israel First" leader. What he's done instead, is to cut the charge off in advance, while gearing up for full-scale war in support of Israel.

In other words, this was likely a Kissinger/Brzezinski move. The only people truly opposed to this selection either don't matter, or are playing the roles they believe to be their calling (in service of the facade).

Obama is owned by his own interests. Muslim, Jew or Christian matters not. He will align himself enough with the Jewish state to allow them to dig themselves a greater hole, just as he has done with bankers and the rich. This is about destabilization. Chaos. Some arguing he is a Muslim while others claiming he is in the pocket of Jews. This fit his agenda perfectly. Does anyone on this planet think he could not, over the period of several years, not come up with a bullet proof birth certificate? Why no college records or anything else? It is to keep everyone guessing and fighting about shit that doesn't matter. Just as with virtually everything else he has done, say like taxes, or debt ceilings and many others. Lots of noise, but going no place but down. Hagel is just another example. Ultimately he could have Ron Paul in that position and still pursue the exact same agenda. Everything is going Obama's way! And we are playing our part. Gun control, welfare, banks, mortgages. Constant skirmishes that accomplish little other than to divide.

Leading warmonger and supreme Neocon, Lindsey Graham, says the Hagel nomination is an “in-your-face” nomination. He’s right but the face is the face of Zionism. Finally, America is going to be treated to a media fight over the influence of Zionist control over American foreign policy that has led to Middle Eastern wars and even economic tyranny here at home.

The Israeli lobby and its Neocon fellow travelers will be going up against a man of substantial qualifications. Arnaud de Borchgrave lists a few of Hagel’s qualifications in Hagel and the Israeli lobby:

He is chairman of the Atlantic Council;

co-chairman of the president's Intelligence Board;

a member of the defense secretary's Policy Board;

a member of PBS' Board of Directors;

a distinguished professor in the Practice of National Governance at Georgetown University;

Hagel also racked up a lifetime rating of 84 percent from the American Conservative Union.

He was the first Republican to win a U.S. Senate seat in Nebraska in 24 years. In 2002 he won re-election to the Senate for a second term with 83 percent of the vote, the largest victory in any statewide race in Nebraska history.

In 1967-68, U.S. army sergeant at 21, infantry squad leader in the 9th Infantry Division, Hagel, wounded twice, received two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

Hagel went public with a taboo subject when he said the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people on Capitol Hill, and then added: "I am not an Israeli senator. I'm a U.S. senator."

He was never afraid to speak his mind. In November 2007, he rated the George W. Bush administration "the lowest in capacity, in capability, in consensus -- almost in every area of any presidency in the last 40 years."

It's so fucking "in-your-face" that apparently, people cannot focus properly. Who cares what ANY of these puppets utter? It does not affect the upcoming collapse in any way (other than beliefs about why).

Honestly, does anyone think for a second that Hagel will impose his will on DoD? ROFLMAO

It would be foolish to convince ourselves as to what difference Hagel’s contributions can mean, AP. But, we can easily predict that there will be substantial discussion in the Congress and in the media on the primary obstacle to Hagel’s confirmation: that America’s interests come before those of Israel's.

Surely, it is in Americans’ best interest to have this brought to the front burner of their country’s survival.

have any of you seen zero dark thirty? it's fucking insane. not just that a movie like that would be released as an "action adventure mystery thriller" to the public.. but, well yeah, that part i guess.

it's like a happy fun tale following ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Haber ) as he invents and implements ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zyclon ), his wife killing herself just a road block to his grand aspirations.

like, history and stuff.

Hagel is a great choice and hopefully one that would be able to start the upcoming war with iran in its tracks. The war would be devastating for our economy so unless you want to see a collapse, which many do, this war needs to be stopped so we can someday rebuild again. The war will be a death knell for us and I don't know if we will ever recover. Thouygh if Obama is nominating him it has to mean he doesn't support war but who knows.

Chuck Hagel nomination is a bit head scratching, but not bad overall... Obama does not care, he is in his second term...

This is a smart move from Obama,

If Hagel is not confirmed, the Republicans are split forever. If he gets confirmed, he can tell Netanyau to sod off...

Those M113s and hueys are ~45 years old. ;) US is giving away obsolete surplus materials. They may stop an AK round, but not much else.

think about what you just said for a moment?

Upgrades/ variants... upgrades/ reconfiguration...  [e.g., F-15's/ F-18's/ F-22's?]

agility in the desert and in closed quarters... and, what makes one think that half the contract or shipment wasn't a blend'd brew?  Trust No-One!!!

I have no doubt the M113s are upgraded, they are very flexibile. They appear intended to provide more credibility in numbers to the Lebanese army to supplement the existing M113 fleet, for some viable competition and limited protection against Hezbollah.

As for fighters the US govt already 'gave' a bunch of 'suplus' F-15s to Israel though. Though I would suggest these can hardly have been considered truely surplus 1993, they were a valuable asset:

"25 new planes equip the IAF

In October 1993 the IAF received 25 F-15s from the USAF surplus. The first 5 planes arrived from the States after an one day stopover in Europe, and proceeded to an IAF airbase in central Israel."

http://israeli-weapons.com/weapons/aircraft/f-15/F-15.htm

Same sort of thing happened with Australia:

" … The FB-111A became surplus to SAC's needs after the introduction of the B-1B Lancer. The remaining FB-111s were subsequently reconfigured for tactical use and redesignated F-111G. The conversions began in 1989 and ended after 34 F-111G conversions were completed. With the disestablishment of SAC, the FB-111As and F-111Gs were transferred to the newly established Air Combat Command (ACC). They were used primarily for training. The remaining FB-111As were retired in 1991 and the F-111Gs were retired in 1993. Australia bought 15 F-111Gs in 1993 to supplement its F-111Cs. They were retired in 2007. …"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Dynamics_F-111_Aardvark

The price of the 15 F-111Gs was insanely cheap, about 200 million from memory. The US even offered us surplus B-1Bs to replace the F-111 fleet if RAAF wanted to go down that route. this sort of think happens often with key allies, plus when it is necessary to re-balance regional forces. You probably know that. I seriously doubt F-22A will be going in the hands of anyone (these is actually a US law against foreign sales of the F-22), they will probably be flown until they are cycle-expired, as the numbers are low. They are much too expensive and specialized for any small air force to operate as an orphaned fleet, when the re-manufacturing production line closed decades ago.
