America's PhDs On Foodstamps
When job hunting in one's field turns tough, college graduates may return to school for another degree (even in economics). But for some Americans, multiple degrees won't guarantee a job in their field (or even at the Fed) - or even keep them above the poverty level... Over the past few years, more and more highly educated people have turned to food stamps and other forms of welfare for help...

It's all well and good to worry about the 0.0004% of the Federal spending that goes to cell-phones, but if someone with a free cell-phone sees you hit by a car or mugged by a pack of negro senior citizens, you'll probably be delighted if they're able to call 911 immediately.
There are certain types of "return" which aren't modeled very well on a spreadsheet.
You may be right...the amount is miniscule compared to the amount the Politicians spend on hookers and blow in Washington.
You assume the car driver doesn't have a cell phone (ObamaFawon or otherwise) and that the muggers (negro seniors or otherwise) didn't get shot dead trying to jack up a free man.

Ivy League schools in engineering and the sciences, such as UC Berkeley and Cornell, can't even prove more than 40% employment rates for their graduates in STEM subjects. Quite astonishing, but a situation that has persisted for the past decade as technology firms have mostly hired foreigners on H-1B visas instead and have outsourced pretty much everything possible.
That physics PhD I mentioned above? UPenn...

This is complete bullshit. I have a STEM Ph.D. from an Ivy school, and the employment rate is much higher than 40%, especially coming from places like Cornell.

Believe it or not, alot of those kids make around $5/hr. Many have second legit jobs.

I used to design microchips made good money with no advanced degree.then they started importing engineers and finally they started shipping the design work over seas. I would still be doing it myself but then they started importing my bosses. Now what sort of degree can you get that can't be out sourced? McDonald's u?
C level positions haven't been primarily outsourced, so hone your bullshit skills and convince someone who matters to finance your business idea.

If you have one masters degree and you still cant find a job, get two. If that still doesn't fetch you employment, get a third.

I'm part of the 13.4% who is working as a bartender with a worthless college degree. I graduated in 09, perfect timing. I have been trying to get a job in a trade but if you don't know anyone it's really hard. Anways, now i am just stacking as much g&s as possible and waiting for the collapse. I save as much as i can, don't spend money on worthless shit, and try to have a good time on limited amount of funds.

I find from personal experience that people with PhDs and other respectable quals are not necessarily endowed with plain common sense which can be applied to whatever job they do. One look at the army of idiot economists we have to see this. Many of them can hardly add up/take away. Then there's another army of mindless moronic "news" presenters and journalists, many of whom don't have a clue what they're blathering about and resort to reading out official press statements. Then there's the political elites .....enough said.

You are such anti-intellectual bogas! If you look at all countries of the world you see that the higher educated you are the smaller probablity of being unemployed and a higher wage. Also, education is a public good, it creates a healthy society, not one where everyone wants to buy a gun to defend themselves.
I do understand that a fucked up society fucks you up but at least you could try to think more and look at things from a different perspective. Welfare is to give a chance for everyone to have a life, we only have once chance for it and we are not born equal. Welfare is to smooth out the inequalites we are born into and eventually decrease it.
