In Plain English

So Obama released his Executive Orders to Prevent Maniacs From Being Maniacs today. I’ve taken the time to translate the summaries into plain English below:

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

Tell the government to follow the law.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

Tell the regulators to stop the stupid and useless regulations.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

Pay the states back for the unfunded mandates that the Feds keeps making.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

Tell the Attorney General to do his job.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

Start another unfunded mandate. (See #3.)

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

Tell FDLs how to do something no one is ever going to bother to do.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

Do the same thing the NRA already does, only half as well at twice the cost.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

Do what Underwriters Laboratories already does, only half as well at twice the cost.

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

Tell the Feds to do their jobs.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

Tell the DOJ to do its job.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

Tell myself to do my job.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

Spend more money.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

Tell everyone to do their goddamned jobs.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

Tell the doctors to figure out why it isn’t the feds’ fault that they aren’t doing their jobs.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

Figure out a way to push “smart guns” that don’t exist and wouldn’t be useful as guns if they did.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

Tell everyone that Obamacare doesn’t actually mean what it says.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

Tell everyone that, seriously, Obamacare doesn’t actually mean that. We had to pass it to find out what was in it, after all.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

Tell everyone that I’ve been a partisan hack for the last month every time I said the NRA was crazy to want to post more cops in schools.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

Do the same thing that every police agency in the country has already done, only half as well and at ten times the cost.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

Tell doctors what they already know.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

Tell people what the parts of Obamacare don’t say anything.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

Tell HHS to do their job.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Hand the rest of the job of telling everyone to do their jobs off to someone else so it is no longer my job.

Here's the best link (it's in slideshow format, and is an excellent one, with cites to academic, law enforcement & other studies) I've found that summarily destroys every argument the Obama/Pelosi/Schumer/Cuomo, et al. crowd comes up with as their "ammunition" for more firearm regulations:

jjsilver's picture

Here is another fact for all the Socialist "groupies" There have been over 10 cases, including the supreme court, ruling the police have no duty to protect you as the individual.

Think those cops are police officers. Start doing a search on for your town and see what comes up. this is also true for the IRS, Social Security, The UNITED STATES.

these guys have no more authority than walmart security guards, unless you consent

Force all gun owners to buy a gun safe that weighs 300+ pounds or is chained to the foundation. That will drastically reduce kids and thieves from getting their hands on them. It will also stimulate the safe market. They make quick access safes that could be made to look like a night table. Inside could be kept your gun cocked and loaded. They punish the parents if kids take the family car and wreck it into anyone why shouldn't they hold the parents responsible if they do not have a safe. They keep saying gun restrictions would not have prevented Sandy Hook but this would have if the mother had kept the guns locked up. She would also be alive.

erschiessen's picture

You mean that it would not be possible to threaten or coerce someone into opening said safe?

If one has a 2nd floor bedroom, will the bad guys wait for one to run downstairs to the foundationally-chained-safe to open it?

What would prevent these mass killings would be for supposedly Free people to protect themselves. Adam Lanza, if you believe the 'Lone Nut Scenario' didn't see that SHES was a GunFreeZone.

Obamessiah should have decreed that GunFreeZone signs be larger, that way crazed gunmen would know not to go into such places.

monad's picture

Here you little creeps, let me open my gun safe for you. No problem, I'll cooperate. Yes I can.

Hacked Economy's picture

Nope, won't work.  Standard gun safes - such as the typical fare available at Bass Pro Shops, etc. - can be opened with a large crowbar and a hand sledge.  The good ones (tubular slide bars, concrete-filled panels) are simply too expensive for the average Joe to afford.  Perhaps if Joe had lots of money and a dozen guns to protect, but what if he has just a single firearm?

Gun safes are good, and I recommend them when applicable and affordable.  But they should not be mandatory to exercise an "inalienable right" declared by our Founding Fathers as endowed upon us by our Creator.

If only facts and logic had any bearing on arguments of the political sophists.

The exercise is not only a waste, but counter-productive, as it legitimizes their sophistry as actual reasoned debate, further empowering their divide and conquer ways.

In other words, as always, playing on their turf is never a good idea. These people should be given no more legitimacy than some crazy person standing on a street corner, yelling at anyone who will listen.

Instead of arguing their details (the trap) one should instead argue against the idea that these people are nothing but gangsters, and all of their words are but weapons against the people under their thumb.

pods's picture

I tend to agree.  You cannot use a logical argument when dealing with an emotional counter argument.

Now I just use this simple one:

Shall not be infringed.

"the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I'm thinking of making a bumper sticker out of this one perhaps adding the image of an AK/AR.

Looks like someone beat me to it (

I'll order one if I can find a magnetic version. I wouldn't want any of those peace loving gun grabbers bashing the crap out of my car while I working hard at my job or resting peacefully at night.

Thanks TIS, this is an excellent link and I'm going to try to get my "all guns must be banned for our safety" associates to look at it. Very well presented material. However, most anti gun people run on emotions rather than facts so I don't expect much.

Hacked Economy's picture

Just this morning, a British business contact arrived from London (for a face-to-face executive meeting at our company), and after the introductory pleasantries he made a mention of the recent Newtown CT massacre.  He then smirked and said he thinks it's crazy that people here in America can simply walk into a store and buy a "semi-automatic gun".

When I asked him "why not?", he went all Piers Morgan-esque on me.  I reminded him that our cultural backgrounds are different, in that the UK has centuries of feudalism behind it (the armed few protect the unarmed many), while Americans began with self-protection and continue with it today.  I then informed him about the incident last week in Georgia where the woman hid with her kids in the attic while an intruder broke into their home.  Only after the intruder found her and presented a life-and-death situation, did she finally shoot him.  Out of six shots fired from her revolver, five hit the guy, and yet he was STILL able to walk out of the house and drive away (before crashing and being picked up by the police).

My point?  If it took five bullets to stop (not kill, but simply stop) the threat, then she and her kids might have been SOL if there had been a second intruder, as she had run out of bullets.  A firearm is the great equalizer, and put her on a superior footing over the intruder, saving her life and her kids' lives.

The Brit didn't get it.  Pity.

Edelweiss's picture

Those of us that support the 2nd already know the facts involved.  The thing is, those that have decided to pursue GC couldn't care less about the truth.  I think the left believes they will have the best chance of a ban if they focus on the "scary" looking firearms first.  What's different from 94' is that I see much more of a push back from the average person, whether they own them or not.  Many more see it for what it is, an attempt to make the population more controllable.

Chupacabra-322's picture

Well, you can A. spank him or B. NDAA his ass.  But seriously, its the desensatization of killing via Hollyweird and Video games.  The DoD invented these games during the Vietnam War to desensatize the soldiers toward killing without guilt or remorse.

And remember how skeert everyone was a few days ago when they were shrieking Obama was gonna take everyone's guns away with his Executive Orders?

This is an instructive case, but most of the hysterics are what we'd call "ineducable."

Buckaroo Banzai's picture

You are a clown. If Obama could push a button that would completely disarm all law-abiding citizens tomorrow, he would push it so hard and fast he'd break his finger.

The only reason he didn't was because Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi told him if he did this now, it would fuck up the chances of a whole lot of democrats getting re-elected in 2014. Since he needs those "useful idiots" right now, he backed down.

The fucker is gonna wait until January 2015. Once he's a lame duck, he won't give a shit, and he'll make his move.

Obama is a dirty, traitorous, lying sack of dog shit.

secret_sam's picture

If Obama could push a button that would completely disarm all law-abiding citizens tomorrow, he would push it so hard and fast he'd break his finger. The only reason he didn't was because <blah blah blah>

Bullshit.  You're a paranoid fool.

The REASON Obama didn't try to disarm the population is because he knows full-well FEDGOV doesn't have the POWER or the CREDIBILITY to do so.

If they pass a law requiring citizens to turn in their firearms, there's NO FUCKING WAY people would comply, and they'd have created tens of millions of armed criminals overnight with the stroke of a pen, many of whom just might be pissed off enough to stop calling each other names on the innerwebz and go DO SOMETHING.

Believe it or not, FEDGOV is *terrified* that We The People might actually get our act together and start doing something constructive.

(As an aside: THIS is why they can't do anything to cut spending or reform entitlements, too, hence the bullshit drama about the debt ceiling in which the 'Pubs will cave every. single. fucking. time.)

Couldn't agree more. I thought just about everything he said was reasonable but just a rinse and recycle

It really is time to split NYS into 2.  Cut off @ I-84, or the north border of Sullivan/Ulster/Dutchess counties.  NYC & LI - you get Gov Cuomo.  No tradebacks.

CunnyFunt's picture

That's a damned-good idea. Shit holes like Poughkeepsie, Monticello and Kingston would clean up overnight.

There is little in common between LI/NYC/Hudson Valley bedroom communities and upstate. New York would be an outstanding state were it not for the shitty & LI.

I'm having difficulty following your logic. How are criminals scarier than criminals?

Is this a division by zero, or an infinite recursion equation?

That whole constitutional/unconstitutional thing is so 19th century, the law is what the latest decree says it is.  At least until the benevolent dictator changes it's mind.

jjsilver's picture

Well, whoever tries to enforce such decree can be held personally liable by acting outside their authority. This is being done with success. Just remember the only thing you see and hear on "their" news is what they want the people to hear so they will be apathetic, fearful, hopeless and can continue to be good little slaves.
