US Flu Epidemic Update: All Red

Tyler Durden's picture

We are not epidemiology experts, but something tells us the US flu (or is that communist?) epidemic is getting worse, not better.

A week ago:

And today (from Google):

In other news, from USA Today:

Flu activity remained high in the United States through Jan. 13 but is decreasing in some areas, numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Friday show. Twenty-nine children have died as a result of the flu since the season's start.

Although there's no national reporting system for adult flu-related deaths, the CDC said that 8.3% of deaths reported in its 122 Cities Mortality Reporting System were due to pneumonia and influenza. That's above the epidemic threshold of 7.2%. The rate of deaths linked to pneumonia and flu the week before was 7.3%.

Forty-eight states reported widespread geographic influenza activity, but the wave is beginning to wane in some areas, CDC said.

In other flu news, the company that makes Tamiflu, an antiviral drug used to lessen the severity of flu in those exposed to the virus, has released reserve stocks to lessen shortages in some parts of the country.

"With the addition of these reserve supplies, we anticipate having sufficient supply of Tamiflu capsules to meet demand for this flu season," spokeswoman Tara Iannuccillo said.

The liquid form of the drug, given to children because they can't easily swallow pills, has been difficult to find. Genentech, of South San Francisco, has worked with the Food and Drug Administration to get more 75-milligram capsules of the drug on the market in the United States, Iannuccillo said. Pharmacists can mix the contents of the capsules with a sweet liquid to make a drug that children can easily take.

Thanks, CA, I'll make some of that.  I wrote your instructions down.

Funny how there is so much around you that you don't consider.  One day a couple years ago, I was noting all the goldenrod that appears at the edge of my yard. Tons!  I thought, "Hmmm, there must be a reason why I'm surrounded by this."  I've had two cervical spinal surgeries which left me arthritic and generally uncomfortable for the last umpteen years (16, as of yesterday). My muscles are always tense in my shoulders and neck, and then I read that goldenrod steeped in olive oil for a few months helps with specifically neck and shoulder pain.  I made it.  It works.  I slather it on and I smell funky, but who cares.  I think I make people hungry for salads, Ha!

We are interpreting good results with oregano oil.  Not specific to flu, but appears to have a generally antibiotic action.

Tea tree oil.  Eucalyptus can be a bit harsh.  Tea tree is fairy nasty, though but it works.

I'm partial to eucalyptus oil - have always loved the trees! - but you're right, one needs to be careful with the amount used - I'm not so fond of tea tree oil as a "smell" so I save it for other uses.

it's all down to what we prefer, and how it works individually, hmm.

They did that around here. It was really pathetic to watch.

The local paper is all into real estate. There was a lot of house flipping going on at one time, really huge, everyone made money on housing. The paper even had a whole real estate section with weekly price trend mapping and everything, as if it were a local sport. Neighborhoods where prices were going up were colored pale green to green, those where the price was going down were shades of yellow to red. For many years the map was mostly or entirely green.

Then of course for a while it became mostly red.

Then suddenly it was mostly green again, like magic.

They had switched the meanings of the colors used. Green suddenly meant decreasing value.

It's all propaganda.

Absolutely, 13.  If you kill off all the weak stuff, then only the strongest stuff survives.  My favourite to say is methylcylline-resistant staphylococcus aureus.  Got a nice ring to it, eh?

Go figger.

Orly, my latest light reading is "Superbug", The Fatal Menace of MRSA" by Maryn McKenna.  I highly recommend it to anyone who is even mildly curious about antibiotic-resistant bacteria.  This one reads like a well-cited medical thriller in places, a medical reference in others.  Thoroughly hair-raising and it will make the reader regard any scrape or cut very differently than they might have prior to reading the book.

As for stepping into a hospital or other healthcare facility, that ought to be regarded as dangerous as hanging out in a snake pit where you don't know if the snakes are venomous or merely spooky looking.

Some here express concern about societal collapse, famine, etc. but I say it's the little things like bacteria, viruses and fungi that are gonna get more of us.

Jena, MRSA cannot live on copper research has shown. There have been many people who have proposed door nobs and fixtures in hospitals/public places be replaced with copper ones to help contain the spread of this nasty (man made I may add) bug. There is resistance to this due to cost. I guess they'd rather just treat with Vancomycin which is crazy. Vancomycin is the last drug that is used to treat MRSA and it is starting to be ineffective(VISA or vancomycin intermediate staph aureus). MRSA and C diff keep me busy all day long and there is no relief in site. Looks like Acintobacter baumannii is the next bad boy on the block, HIGHLY resistant bug that's lethal.

Copper and silver may end up saving us after all.  Fascinating.

Sir Alexander Fleming accepting the Nobel Prize in December 1945 said(quoting from the book "Superbug"):

There is the danger that the ignorant man may easily under-dose himself and by exposing his microbes to non-lethal quantities of the drug, make them resistant.  Here is a hypothetical illustration.  Mr. X has a sore throat.  He buys some penicillin and gives himself, not enough to kill the streptococci but enough to educate them to resist penicillin.  He then infects his wife.  Mrs. X gets pneumonia and is treated with penicillin.  As the streptococci are now resistant to penicillin the treatment fails.  Mrs. X dies.

It's taken six decades or so for the bacteria to be community-based and therefore easily enough acquired.

Cheers.

In Australia multiresistant Acinetobacter spp. are still reasonably uncommon, and we have yet to see significant carbapenem resistance. We have had a few cases of "full-blown" VRSA, but the main concern for all the ID teams is CRKP, which is becoming "a problem". Moreso since the cassette is very easily transferred - just like NDM-1 as the literature clearly shows.

My "prediction for the future" - just look where the WHO are getting concerned - Artesunate / Artemether complete resistance in Falciparum in Kenya, definite proof of TDR-TB in Russia and probably elsewhere (being mindful that TB is THE number one killer Worldwide over the ages),

We still rely on a very dwindling "traditional " antibacterial armoury - and alternative strategies (e.g. quoum disruption / inhibition, toxin inhibition via disruption of gene expression, etc.) are still only "interesting research topics". Time to market of ANY new agent will be 15+ years, so really the future is looking almost "back to the pre-antibiotic era", and if that is the case there is going to be a LOT of dying off, even from currently easily-managed conditions. We will be back to the era where major "dirty" surgery is a death sentence (so no more colostomies / hemicolectomies), and even "clean" surgery will be very risky, especially surgery in immunologically  privileged sites (particularly neurosurgery).

Gonorrhoea will kill you, an appendicectomy will kill you (although peritonitis from a rupture will kill you quicker!), even a UTI might become a really serious condition.

Nice, isn't it - one of the "benefits" of high density living and bulk transport systems I suppose

Yes, you are truly going to get people shocked posting info like that! I remember the days when a UTI with Klebsiella meant you had to make sure the dr hadn't prescribed AMP which would have been unusual for a UTI. Now we have CRKP. I've dealt with 3 cases of XDR-MTB. This was a scary time for us! In our case they were illegal aliens that crossed the border. They were under house arrest and they just waited for their family members to come and visit so they could nab them. Several of them had it as well. I was terrified but had to work with thes bugs. One time I was subbing one under the hood an electrician working on the circuit breaker box turned off the circuit that was connected to the BSC. For 15 seconds I was staring at this cream rough colony that I was sure was going to kill me because when a hood is turned off the laminar flow goes TOWARD the user. Those were the scariest times in my job. I agree with your assessment. There is a microbiological as well as financial Armageddon approaching. The key to the microbiological one will be the ease of transmissibility and lethality in a immunologically deficient population. This is why NDM-1 and CRKP frighten us so....are they the harbinger of the global plague? Are you an ID Doc, researcher or just a foot soldier microbiologist as I am? I will be in Sidney late February....hopefully I won't encounter any of the fore mentioned strains! Regards.

Your TB "experience" would have been a little hair-raising (OK I know transmissability is poor from plated colonies, but even so . . . !)

Whilst none of us are futurologists, it's what we DON'T know that really scares me.  What else is happily spreading throught the Gram -ve population "out there" that we are yet to pick up? I have colleagues in the UK working in Wastewater microbiology - a real experience in terms of what they isolate. Whatever is consumed / injected eventually ends up in the wastewater system - suitably diluted with a nice mix of nutrients too. Just the right environment to facilitate development of new resistance genes.

Here we're getting to the stage where we have to seriously consider pretty unusual TB Management strategies. XDR is no longer uncommon (with 50% of our patients on extensive multidrug regimes); we're looking at incorporating thioridazine / fosfomycin (single mega-dose therapy for the latter), and a few other exotica.

The good thing is that increased awareness has led to a bloom in the number of good Internet sites where info is available (e.g. ndm1bacteria.com); the bad thing is that despite the best efforts of the informed (e.g antimicrobial stewardship programmes), there are a LOT of Countries where Abx. availability is still OTC with no prescription; usually the poorer Countries with giant populations too. Add in counterfeit / substandard products and the magnitude of the problem is effectively unchanged, so all the major efforts of the West are effectively futile. Former colleagues (UK Major Pharma. companies) routinely assay counterfeit agents found overseas as part of their patent protection programmes, and it's not uncommon for the active content to be far less than 50% of label, especially for costly items (e.g. linezolid, moxifloxacin, azithromycin). Even generics are fair game for the counterfeiters (there have been cases of counterfeit 2g ceftriaxone vials containing lactose, and only lactose!)

Solution? Whilst there's money to be made via the black market there will never be a solution. Providing it's "someone else's" parents, grandparents or kids doing the dying, there'll be no change. We've seen this in spades via "The War on Drugs", and via Prohibition.

To answer your other question - PhD researcher (now semi-retired).  Had MORE than enough exposure to the really nasty Cat 4 organisms courtesy of the UK MOD (Porton Down / Nancekeuke). Working with live virus certainly "helped to concentrate the mind", even though the working conditions were the best UK Taxpayers' money could buy (and we really DID enjoy an almost "Space-Age" environment! Definitely NO "accidental disconnection" events in a BSL4 environment!).

Hope you enjoy Sydney (avoid the Waterfront - REALLY expensive for EVERYTHING!!) - we're off touring the Outback again as soon as the School holidays have finished. Thank heavens for the marvel of wireless internet!

Ok, you have really opened my eyes...and I don't like what I see. In San Diego, at this time, approx 90% of our MTB pts are on primary drug panel regimes ( combo INH, rifampin, ethambutol) I haven't had requests for secondary drugs for a couple of years. I had 3 cases of Potts disease last year( all Indians on work visas) that were problematic so I figured India had some resistance issues. Ten percent of our isolates are M. bovis which makes sense due to our proximity to Mexico...trickier to treat and hard to achieve compliance with patient....I feel for the pubic Health nurses! Tijuana does not do susceptiblity studies on their MTB isolates, treat primarily empirically. There lies the resistant issues which you so elegantly described. The counterfeit issues you describe are shocking. Being on my end I probably wouldn't hear of such things but I'll ask a few ID doctors if this is an issue for us in USA. 12 years ago I was at a hospital chosen to participate in an early Linizolid study. I was very impressed. We primarily used it on our VRE patients. However, I knew its efficacy would be diminished over time, especially with black market use.

I am so glad I've never worked with BSL4 agents! In my younger days it would have been quite exciting but now I'd rather practice my mindfulness techniques in yoga class and walking the dogs. BSL3 is exciting enough at this stage of my life. Considering my lab doesn't have an ante room ( therefore my hood is breached whenever anyone enters the TB room) I feel I have enough excitement!

Thanks for a peek in the window of your world. Sometimes I feel my world is too parochial and interactions as these can shake me up a bit for the better. I find some fascinating people on this financial blog...who would have thunk it! My husband was awarded a 5 day all expense paid trip to Sidney for developing a $100 million generating software product. We're going over to New Zealand for a week on our expense as well just because I always wanted to go and this seemed like an opportune time. Let me know it there is a " must see" item that's not too touristy, we tend to like quiet out of the way venues.Regards.

Good for you and yours!  NZ is on our list too. The scenery is the No 1 attraction, and the major cities are all very European. A bit cold in the winter, but nothing too desperate.

As for Oz, depends entirely on what you like. The wildlife is pretty amazing (including the smaller stuff!) Whilst everyone knows we've got Cockatoos, there are a lot of varieties of them. Lots of other Parrot spp., lizards, and mammals to choose from too.

The Metropolitan Capitals are all good for shopping (but dear); whilst the rural centres are usually a lot cheaper.  As you disappear further into the sticks, prices for essentials rise quite a bit (fuel!) and touristy things tend to disappear.

For an extended visit, instead of using Hotels, how about Stayz.com (holiday rentals), or you could hire an RV - most are pretty well specified and for two, I'd recommend a 6-berth just for the space. Maui used to be OK, but they've lost ground to Kea and Apollo - and this will give ytou loads of flexibility to go (and stay) where you like. Might be worth looking up "Big4" Holiday parks - they offer a Country-wide on line availability and booking service, so you know there's a space waiting for you.  It's woth the extra cost to get an "en suite" space - their bathroom facilities are really good!

As to locations, Darwin's probably a must - with a trip south to Katherine and Mataranka. Maybe continue down the entire Stuart Highway and you'll really see "Outback Australia" - red as, and baked to a crisp! Queensland's good - Cairns is great (good coffee growing area - Jacques Coffee Plantation is a very good visit (and the microlight "tour" is a must), as is the Cairns Night Zoo Tour. Coff's Harbour (NSW) is "Big Banana" country - and their bananas are really THE best!

Sydney / Newcastle / Wollongong - all Metropolitan centres, but nothing amazingly outstanding - the Opera House is OK but the inteerior does need a makeover. Good local and International productions though (although not cheap). For just-as-good but cheaper Melbourne and Canberra easily beat Sydney. Canberra probably has the best galleries (inc. the Australian National Collection), and pretty OK weather most of the year. Sydney has the "famous" beaches - but they are crowded. Beaches further North and South are just as good but almost empty - the Shoalhaven (Seven Mile Beach) and Jervis Bay are VERY nice (we are renting a holiday home in Shoalhaven Heads right now - 200m from an excellent beach, and very traditional house too!)

Go West? Internal flights are always "so, so", and if the budget allows take the train. Aus. has some of the World's best train journeys, and the "named" services (such as the Ghan) are costly, but a lifetime experience, and you spend the nights travelling in pretty opulent style, and the days watching hour after hour of hot, red Outback. (have a four hour nap - when you wake up it's just the same outside!)

For the road trip - we've mentioned the Stuart - how about the Great South Road - port Augusta across the Nullabor to WA (NO mobile coverage, so you WILL need a UHF or VHF radio in the van if you are RV'ing - and do this trip in the Winter!). Not that much along the road but you will be able to drive the longest straight road in the World. WA's OK - Perth's nice, Fremantle's nice too, but remember this is the Mining State so things get a bit rough outside "civilisation".

That should nicely fill your itinerary - and you can see why the RV approach will let you see that bit more of the "Parched Country!"

From the Tech viewpoint - I've never been a great fan of Laminar Flow Cabinets (except for media preparation or aseptic assembly). If you're handling anything risky you really cannot beat an Isolator. OK I know the gloves are an issue and doing a "no touch" glove change is quite the acquired skill, BUT the safety factor is really unbeatable, and their running costs are pretty comparable with an LFC anyhow. We used to work in an FDA Class 100 background, but the isolators were better than Class 10. Custom built for the MOD by Amercare, and all stainless, so decontamination was easier.

The BIG risk was always a sharps injury. So, no glass ampoules, nothing brittle, and any procedure requiring use of sharps (i.e. animal work) always required 2 or 3 operators. Also, ALL animals were really sedated - we were adamant that we don't want a nasty surprise. Microscopy (e,g, fluorescence), was done IN the cabinet, and everything that came out was either incinerated (via a disposal hatch - direct to the furnace ), or via a total immersion dunk tank (samples for further work, e.g. electrophoresis, or EM).

During my stay, we never had a single accident, and only one "near miss" (split cuff on a glove - that's why you wear THREE gloves - the nitrile underglove, the silk "middle layer", and the outer gauntlet.)

Mind you there was the definite "fun" component - I can guarantee that mentioning you've spent the morning passaging Ebola Zaire in Vero cell lines is quite the conversation stopper at parties! (you'll notice that those closer to you tend to shuffle away somewhat - and I'm certain it had nothing to do with BO!!) Working in Biological Defence is "up there" with being a Test Pilot in terms of "oh my God, I'd NEVER do that" responses to the innocent asking "what do YOU do for a living??"

the one I remember from 2008/9 season, linked above, was manufactured in Austria,

The contaminated product, which Baxter calls “experimental virus material,” was made at the Orth-Donau research facility. Baxter makes its flu vaccine — including a human H5N1 vaccine for which a licence is expected shortly — at a facility in the Czech Republic.

People familiar with biosecurity rules are dismayed by evidence that human H3N2 and avian H5N1 viruses somehow co-mingled in the Orth-Donau facility. That is a dangerous practice that should not be allowed to happen, a number of experts insisted. Accidental release of a mixture of live H5N1 and H3N2 viruses could have resulted in dire consequences.

but there have been other stories, ongoing. . .

Had flu shot, 10 days later, DOWN with bad congestion, cough, floods of mucus; a vile and bad situation.  D-3 good, chicken soup better, hot tea with lots of lemon and single barrel bourbon best.

3 weeks later, still have bronchitis cough - but it's getting better with continued moderate daily therapy.

Saw a rainbow after I sneezed in a sunbeam - wow - spread a cloud 6 feet wide.

Stayed home for a week after.

Good luck, all.

That's what I keep hearing as well. Most people are saying it's the Flu but it doesn't behave like the Flu. The end result is the same, if you are healthy and take care of yourself with plenty of fluids and a good diet you will not have to worry about it. Vaccines are a waste of time and resources.

Well I would happily take a vaccine that actually proved efficacy in a double blind placebo controlled trial.

They don't run them though.  Vaccines work like magic.
Although the whole idea behind them shows that the people who have the greatest need for them (compromised immune systems) have the worst immune response from a vaccine.

So the more susceptible to pathogens you are, the less a vaccine will help you.  (following the whole vaccine theory)

Those who would benefit the most from a vaccine have the least need.

Easier to just take Vitamin D.

Perhaps you can educate me with a good source for VD ;)  With the benchmark being 35-100, I was woefully low @ 24, not to mention osteopenia.  I had been taking 10-30K units of OTC D3 per day b4 the D-Hydroxy 25 test. An internist stated that true D deficiency needs to be treated w/ pharma grade D. I was prescribed D2 & after 1 yr brought me up to DH25 level of 50.

Do you have any reliable sources for supplements? TIA

I was taking Bronson Vitamins 1000IU per day, and getting lots of sun in the desert southwest every day -- including an hour of pool time duruing the six months it's warm enough to swim.  With fair skin, you'd think that would be plenty, given lots of spinach and salmon, etc. in the diet.  But I still tested below where you were.  My doctor prescribed 50K IU/wk and now I'm well into the normal range.  I try to dodge pharmaceuticals whenever I can but I was so far off the mark and the overall change has been so positive...

Actually the perscription vitamin D2 was designed on a rat model, and in fact we humans absorb it very poorly (and tragically this is what all of our milk and foods are supplemented with).

OTC Vitamin D3 is your best biological match and choice. 5K a day seems like a sweet spot dose.

Did you know that you have to wait to bathe 48 hours after sun exposure in order for your body to absorb any appreciable vitamin D?

Not a cure, and not a 100% preventative - but put one teaspoon of salt in a pint of lukewarm water, pour some into your cupped hand and then snort it. You will gag, and your nose will run - draining any viruses and bacteria in your sinuses. Repeat until the pint is gone. Do this several times a day and you will significantly decrease your chances of getting the flu, or colds, or seasonal pollen allergies. Guaranteed. And if you really want to get fancy, add a few drops of nanosilver solution to the mix before snorting. Do not under any circumstances take decongestants - all they do is congeal the mucous in your sinus cavities, making it impossible for your body to get rid of the mucous (which is what a runny nose is all about) and congealed mucous in the sinus cavities happens to be a perfect culture media for bacterial growth. Of course the flu is viral not bacterial but it this treatment will get any viruses that are lodged in your sinuses ( from aerosolized virus from other people sneezing) our of your body  - hopefully before it has time to rally and invade.

Stop Damaging Children With Influenza Vaccines
By Peter J. Collingnon, Peter Doshi & Tom Jefferson
British Medical Journal
March 17, 2011

"National authorities worldwide promote influenza vaccines, arguing they are not just effective, but extremely safe. The US NIAID director claimed that "the track record for serious adverse events is very good. It's very, very, very rare that you ever see anything that's associated with the vaccine that's a serious event".  There is now abundant evidence that such optimism is misguided. In Australia last year, one febrile convulsion occurred for every 100 to 200 young children vaccinated with CSL's influenza vaccine. Now in the US there have been similar concerns. A recent analysis of the American experience reported a rate of 60 seizures per 100,000 influenza vaccinations when given together with conjugated pneumococcal vaccine. However this is likely to under-estimate the true rate. In 2005, when a new study demonstrated that influenza vaccines were not saving elderly lives, many argued that this underscored the importance of vacc inating more children. Yet we have no evidence demonstrating that children are benefiting from this strategy but do have evidence that these vaccines are hospitalizing children. The recent H1N1 "pandemic" and our immunisation response show that in children we likely caused more harm than good. Public health authorities should not continue to recommend (as in the US), that all children receive routine influenza vaccine until we have much better safety and efficacy data."

Germany is the latest country to announce a ban on flu vaccines from the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis, following previous moves by Italy, Switzerland and Austria. On Thursday, Germany's vaccine regulatory agency, the Paul Ehrlich Institute, announced that the release of four batches of the vaccine Begripal and a batch of Fluad had been canceled.

Canada is following the lead of several European countries and suspending distribution of flu vaccine made by the pharmaceutical firm Novartis.

The decision relates to the discovery by the company of tiny clumps of virus particles in some batches of flu vaccines made at the Novartis production facility in Italy.

I think that most people will agree that Libertarian and Fundamentalist types are more likely to buy into so-called 'conspiracies' than the rest.  Assuming for a moment (as a 'working hypothesis') that this is true, then would the Gov and the TBTF not do the the following, as they plan their NWO w/o the Libertarians?  E.g.

> Have them believe that Vaccines are 'bad' (from ineffective to damaging),  and possibly designed for Agenda 21, i.e. Pop. Control. "Ctrl-P"?

Even if it were available, it likely would be ineffective.  Look up how the flu vaccine is designed.  Of all the strains floating around and mutating continuously (thousands, millions?), 2 are chosen by a panel for next year's vaccine.  So the odds of it working are pretty slim.  Generals fighting the last war.

If I were a manufacturer of say, over the counter cold and flu medicines, I might 'help along' the distribution of whatever strains were: 1) not in the flu shot, 2) not especially deadly, and 3) had good transmission characteristics.

I'm not saying there is a conspiracy, but I have to think that with beyond-epidemic levels of flu that quarterly pharma profits are going to be flush. Coincidence?

These days, I am very skeptical whenever I hear people with a profit motive claiming they are interested in "the good of the people." This is almost as bad as those people who cry: "what about the children?"

I'll take my chances without any vaccines. The one time I got a flu shot (back in the early '90s), I was sick for three weeks, and it tooks months to fully recover. Never again. Years later, an MD friend had a shot (mandatory in her case), and she swore up and down that the shot made her sick.

I find it rather bizarre that people are so accepting of injecting novel substances into their body. I've read a lot of medical and scientific literature, and I just think there is too much that is unknown to be able to say what these things do to our bodies. I also find it rather hilarious that the medical establishment regularly makes the claim that "we don't do human experiments." Well, actually, there is a long history of human experimentation, with, and without consent. Ask the Chinese about how the Japanese like to use them as experimental subjects. Ask them about Shiro Ishii. BTW, all of Dr. Ishii's work was later acquired by the friendly folks from our own biological weapons labs, slides and all. This history is all covered in Ed Regis' book "The Biology of Doom." Russians did the same thing, as detailed by Ken Alibek in "Biohazard: The chilling true story of the largest covert weapons program in the world - told from inside by the man who ran it."

Yea, they're out for our best interests. I'm sure. And it's probably not necessary, but.... /sarc

If you are a healthy person it is far better just to suffer the effects of the flu. Yes, you are going to have 2-4 days of hell but the lasting immunity to that strain and may strains like it will last many years. A flu shot contains killed or attenuated virus with and adjuvant to boost immunity. The three strains that are included are normally a recent previous stain and 2 others that a committee theorizes will go global. The immunity from this shot is minimal and therefore must be repeated yearly therefore creating a nice cash flow for big Pharm. The efficacy of that shot is 60% at best. Read the package insert before getting this shot, you may change your mind. There are many alternative therapies that will lessen the severity of the flu or reduce your chance getting it. Hand washing is number one plus trying not to touch mucus membranes of the nose, eyes and mouth which is its point of entry. I personally take vit c and vit D ( try to keep levels over 50...can be tough to do). A nice Hot Toddy during the acute phase is helpful to me but I'm going to try Cathartes aura's H2O2 therapy if I get it!

all credit to Bill Munro - he's been testifyin' for years now, both he and his wife daily dose,

Bill Munro (March 19,1924) from Waterford, Michigan writes, "I have been inhaling 3% peroxide for over 13 years. And had a bout with Melanoma and Prostate cancer at the same time. At no time would I let anything like a salve be on my open Melanoma because that would take away the oxygen needed to heal from the outside. The peroxide I inhale would supply the oxygen on the inside. I increased the times that I inhale the peroxide into my mouth to 7 or 8 times a day. I used a nasal spray pump. With each inhale I would pump the pump about 10 times. This went on for four months. I now pump 5 times with each inhale and 7 inhales every day. My PSA blood tests say I am clean now."

full story, with others adding their experiences, here.

and just for the record, I had a "bronchitis/pneumonia" episode late 2011 (undiagnosed, as I don't do doctors) that was what others describe as a "severe asthma" attack - could NOT get air into my lungs, shallow breaths, came on over 24 hours, fast!  I used the above inhalation method, food grade H202, inhaled every few hours - and within 24 hours I could breath easier, after a few days, as normal - it took a few weeks to completely eradicate, but in the meantime I felt fine, could work outside, etc. - just had some recurring symptoms - haven't had any problems since, I use the spray any time I feel soreness in my glands, or congestion. . .pennies a day,  *nods*

Thanks CA, I remember you mentioned it before and made a note to check it out. Having had full blown asthma for more than thirty years and on so many different meds I was desperate to find alternatives. Modern medicine failed me (though I'm still working in it...sigh). After a year juice fasting and doing alternative therapies I've been asthma free for 5 years. I contracted H1N1 ( damn...that was a beast) and had no asthmatic symptoms. My dr at the time claimed I am not cured because there is no "cure" for asthma, I'm only in remission. Asthma, according to him, is a chronic condition that leads to COPD and death, end of story. Nice thing to say to a patient. Of course I told him to FOAD and have been on my own ever since. There are so many things one can do to stay healthy, it's sad to see people flocking to a vaccine/ big Pharm. They are being manipulated by perpetual fear. Thanks for the post.

white coat high priests of medicine tell us what they're told to tell us, and back up their supreme smugness with the fear of being sued for not toeing the line.  all their recommendations are filtered through that awareness, for me, and I resist their belief-system by virtue of where it's sourced. . .

with "respiratory illnesses" and breathing issues growing in the young/elderly, I think it's very important to source reliable remedies outside of the pharma influence.  whatever one believes about the SAG/aerosoling subject, the facts are people's lungs, etc. are compromised, and children are the canary in the coalmines ("asthma" rates doubled since '90s).

Mum used to have "severe asthma" and our GP have us the same spiel - "permanent scarring, COPD, die young"). You'll be relieved to know Ma is now 94 and still fully independent . . . . . . .

Obviously family Hx - when I started getting wheezy, tried a short course of the leukotriene antagonists (e.g. montelukast). NO sx for decades and a very healthy FVC too (something to do with cycling to work maybe??).

The problem I've noticed with "Modern Medicine" is that everyone takes trials data as Gospel truth. No one seems to realise that there's no such beast as "Mr / Mrs Average", and the trials outcomes should be only regarded as a general guide. So what if 80% of Patients "in Trials" didn't benefit from the drug - doesn't mean that you will be in that 80% does it. Even if only 5% of Pateints showed improvement - that means 1 in 20 WILL benefit, and you could be that 1 in 20 Patient.

So it's a case of try the "best in trials" agents first, then if they don't work, try the "not so best", 'cause you might have quite a nice surprise (just as I had decades ago!).

All the best and keep up the aerobic exercise!!

HERE IS THE STORY OF THE FDA & CDC'S COVER-UP OF TAMIFLU'S LACK OF EFFECTIVENESS...AFTER THE US SPENT OVER $1 BILLION STOCKPILING THIS MARGINALLY EFFECTIVE ANTI-VIRAL DRUG:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/11/opinion/drug-data-shouldnt-be-secret.html

Drug Data Shouldn’t Be Secret

Published: April 10, 2012

"...As a result of new freedom of information policies in Europe, the Continent’s version of the F.D.A., the European Medicines Agency, has released 22,000 more pages of Roche’s Tamiflu trial reports. But even this represents an incomplete picture, as the most detailed portions of the reports are not in the European drug regulator’s files.

Nevertheless, the data point to a drug of minimal benefit. In accordance with the F.D.A.’s findings, it appears to shave a day off the duration of influenza symptoms, but we found no decrease in risk of hospitalization and no evidence that it could stop the spread of the virus. More worrisome, we found suggestive evidence that Tamiflu interfered with the body’s ability to produce antibodies against influenza — which could affect the body’s response to influenza vaccine and its ability to fight off future influenza infections. But to do a complete analysis, including evaluating Tamiflu’s potential harms, we need the remainder of the data — the full “clinical study report” — promised by Roche, but never delivered.

In response to our conclusions, which we published in January, the C.D.C. defended its stance by once again pointing to Roche’s analyses. This is not the way medical science should progress. Data secrecy is a disservice to those who volunteer their bodies for clinical trials, and is dangerous to those being asked to swallow approved medicines. Governments need to become better stewards of the scientific process. The European regulator’s announced intention to release clinical study reports after it finishes reviewing a manufacturer’s application is an important precedent. But the F.D.A. — guardian of arguably more trial data than any other entity in the world — appears stuck in the era of data secrecy. "

HERE IS ONE OF THE CDC'S PRIMARY VACCINE PROMOTERS FINALLY ADMITTING THAT HIS PROMOTION OF FLU VACCINE WAS SIMPLY UNSCIENTIFIC PUBLIC RELATIONS...

Reassessing Flu Shots as the Season Draws Near By RONI CARYN RABIN

Last month,, in a step tantamount to heresy in the public health world, scientists at the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota released a report saying that influenza vaccinations provide only modest protection for healthy young and middle-age adults, and little if any protection for those 65 and older, who are most likely to succumb to the illness or its complications. Moreover, the report’s authors concluded, federal vaccination recommendations, which have expanded in recent years, are based on inadequate evidence and poorly executed studies.

“We have overpromoted and overhyped this vaccine,” said Michael T. Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, as well as its Center of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance. “It does not protect as promoted. It’s all a sales job: it’s all public relations."

So why is the entire country, even remote outposts of Hawaii and Alaska, so totally infected?  Wasn't the government's flu shot supposed to combat the um, err, uhhh...FLU?  So more people than ever have been stabbed with the government kill shots and the country is now in the midst of a massive flu epidemic.

Yeah, that's pretty much par for the course on how well Big .GOV does when it comes to centrally planning anything.

I still basically think they're trying to infect the country with as much crap as possible to slow-kill us off and make us more dependent on their bullshit and too weak to defend against their Marxist advance.

***Haven't had a flu shot in many years.  Haven't caught this flu yet this year and I pound down massive amounts of vitamins and supplements.  Hopefully that's what's working so far, so I'll stick to my own methods thank you very much and .GOV can F-off.

It's all H1N1 variants today, which have crowded out all other types of flu.  A triple-triple recombinant chimera from US pathology labs like Ft. Detrick, it gets its origins from the reseurrected 1918 Spanish flu.  Some of the variants out there carry deadly genetics, and the polymorphs continue to recombine.  A stepped part of a bioweapon program, this is part of the overall depopulation agenda.  I have a blog at http://www.labvirus.com which has been researching this all since day one.  DO NOT TAKE THE VACCINE it will not prevent against flu, and will introduce many toxins which are hard to get out once in you.  Buyer beware.

for those who might try VIT D, it does not help to take massive doses when illness hits, you must take it daily taking D2 not the best D3 is what my family takes daily. some other chemical brews spoken of here, must be used at correct doses, peroxide works but can inhibit healing [seen this too many times in wounds] ..other oils posted on this thread do have side effects and can do harm..vit c can induce kidney stones another example. silver well its a heavy metal and well heavy metals can do great harm to your health.but silver in the right dose is excellent

to all; if it's natural herbs or pharm grade drugs..they are all poisons at the wrong dose,.

good health to all the wonderful people on ZH.  from a seller of poisons

If/when you decide to take C, make sure you get powder form, pure, 100 percent, L-ascorbic acid.  You will probably have to get it from a health food store.  We get ours from the Vitamin C foundation, http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/cart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1&zenid=7q2kd914t6o1v4aeepo8639pf3

One other key point, if you don’t take enough (especially when you are sick), it won’t help.  If you take too much, you will get “cleansed.” ;-)

The “Mild Silver Protein Safety Issues” (on Dr Johnson's web site) gives a good overview of using silver for treating illness.  Mostly we rely on “C” but we also use this stuff (specifically/exclusively Invive 5000 ppm, also called mild silver protein).  Mainly, we just keep it stockpiled for emergency (serious or stubborn infectious illness) because it ain’t cheap and it tastes nasty.  It has a long shelf life (at least 15 years).  We buy ours from Dr. Scott Johnson (drjohnson@ix.netcom.com) because he will consult with you via email, which is nice.  But above that, Dr. Johnson is a chiropractor and highly educated in nutrition and alternative therapies.  But you can get it from others.  Just google it!  If you do get it from Dr. Johnson, email him.  Although he has a silver website (http://www.dr-johnson.com/, lots of info), sometimes he has a discount available if you contact him directly.

As for us, (so far) when we do take the silver, we dilute one ounce of 5000 ppm in 3 ounces of distilled water, and take 5 teaspoons per day, divided into 2 doses per day for a few days to even a few weeks.  To facilitate absorption into the blood stream, hold the dose under your tongue for a least a minute.  This action will also let you savor the wonderful flavor!  Our dosing approach is admittedly a crude guide; what we use when we sense ‘something coming on.’  For someone who knows they have a specific condition, they need to look up the dosing protocol for their scenario (attached, “Ag Therapy Mild Silver Protein Dosing Protocols”).  Also, someone who has been chronically sick and is just beginning to use silver might want to start with small doses and work up to the recommended dose.  This is because a sudden kill-off of an infective agent can induce a “Herxheimer reaction.”

Of course, this is not medical advice; I’m just sharing some free information.  Do your own due diligence!

Listen people. Nature has provided us all the abundant foods that will prolong health. Eat what God has given. So it is with animals, so it is with humans. We have to it what nature provides.

Many studies have been done on the ineffectiveness and dangerous long term consequences of vitamin pills and other man made "natural" health aids. The human body does not process pills as food. The Mayo clinic and the American medical association have finally confirmed what European and Asian scientists have previously discovered, that when you take a vitamin, your body only absorbs 10 to 20% of the "nutrients". The rest of the goodies go down the toilet. that's right. On the long term dangers of vitamin pills and supplements, scientific studies have shown a link to intestinal diseases and cancer. Nature only provides small doses of minerals in the food it gives us. That is because the human body can only process a little at a time. When you take a vitamin with a full day supply of vitamins and minerals it puts excessive strain on the digestive system. It is overloaded trying to process all these man extracted nutrients. It is like dropping a bomb in your digestive system.

You cant drink a smoothie and pop a pill with overloaded nutrients without it causing an opposite effect on your digestive system. That is why stomach, liver, kidney and pancreatic cancer is on the rise. Nothing in nature has a full day supply of minerals!!!!!!!!!! Too much mineral deposits in your stomach all at once are putting constant strain on the digestive system. Look it up, but the truth these days is hard to find. leave it to lazy americans, too lazy to cook and prepare what nature provides to come up with a drug/pill to make nutrition easy. Nutrition is not easy. It is a way of life and too many people are losing that life unknowingly and thus adding to the health crisis.

My method is a simple method but it is work to prepare the food that nature provides. I call it, "eat from the tree of life" You have to eat of the tree of life! You not only have to eat the leaves and the fruits that the tree provides, but also the roots! Take ginger root and carrots for example. The stuff that is above the ground is not nutritious, sometimes it is what is in the ground that has the benefits. But not only do you eat the leaves, fruits and roots, you have to also eat the nuts and seeds!!!!

And you also eat the branches or sticks. Take cinnamin sticks for example. Cinnamin is one of the most powerful spices that your body needs to prolong good health.

Eat the tree of life!

Lord Of Finance's picture

I also need to add that contrary to what many believe to be so, the food today is just as nutritious as it was in the past. Non-organic fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds have the same nutritional levels as organic. Look it up. Asian and European studies confirm this as does the Mayo clinic and even the national organic trade association. They did thorough studies and have confirmed that there is absolutely no nutritional difference.

As for the safety of pesticides, of course pesticides are not safe, but the free radical nuetralizing nutrients in the fruits, vegetables nuts and seeds negate the toxins that are not cleaned off.

You body absorbs 100 times the number of proven cancer causing toxins from car exhaust than it does from pesticide treated produce. You all drive a car or a bus to get to work and to and fro right? Chances are there are cars driving in front of you, right? Your car has an air intake system that goes into your cars cabin, right?  What I am saying is that we are basically "shotgunning" the exhaust from the cars driving in front of us-- The dozens of cars in front of us!!  Make sure you keep your distance from the car in front of you, not just for driving safety, but also for your internal organs. But you can even negate the effect of these proven cancer causing carcinogens from car exhaust with proper nutrition. Our bodies today, now more then ever, need high levels of nutrients and antioxidents/phytochemicals to nuetralize all the toxins we take into our stomachs and our lungs on a daily basis.

Eat from the tree of life. And for a further health tip, The cancer fighting kings with the most free radical nuetralizing phytochemicals and nutrients are mushrooms and onions. Onions are loaded with organo sulfurs. You know when you chop an onion and your eyes tear up? those are from the organo sulfur compounds being released. These compounds clean and detox your cells and vascular system like no other nutrient. Today more then ever, eat more onions, preferable raw, because in order to get the sulfer compounds from cooking you have to prep the onions in a certain way. I prefer raw onions anyway. The onions with the most phytochemicals and organo sulfers are red onions.

BTW- do also eat citrus fruits because they also have the next similiar effect of detoxing the cells and vascular system, but nothing compares to the red onion. It is king and the mushroom shares the thrown as well. Mushrooms cut off the supply chain for the toxins to enter and kill the cell. They are like a blocker. If by any chance a toxin enters then the onions organo sulfur compounds scrub the cell clean!!!!!!!!!!!

Lord Of Finance's picture

Oh and one more thing. All the vitamin pills and health smoothies or what ever the hell it is that humans substitute today for real food, do not contain the phytochemical and micronutrients that our bodies need. Your body needs micronutrients/phytochemicals in the food that nature provides just as much as the antioxidents and minerals you are popping or sucking down. There is no way to properly extract the phytochemicals and put it into pill form, and if they do find a way to do it then you will be sending all those nutrients right out your ass and leave your bodies very sensitive digestive system with a hangover.

Everyone has been popping pills and smoothie shit shakes for the last 15 years now, right? And what is happening to the cancer rate? You guessed it. It is on a sharp increase!!!!!!!!!!! We have a cancer bubble and it will never pop until people stop looking for easier ways of doing things. Laziness is a vice. Nutritional laziness wont lead your soul to ruin, but it will lead your body to it.  Put the time in to prepare the food that nature has to offer. You would think with all the modern day appliances and 'gincu' knives that have made food prep alot easier then in olden times, that people would not have a problem and find the time to prepare real food, but no way. "I am in a hurry to go nowhere and I will pop my one a day centrum. There i am covered and properly nourished. Now lets go to Mcdonalds and eat some sodium bombs!" an after that we will order take out for dinner and eat more sodium bombs then I will take my intestinal destroying smoothie shit shake"

Look at the sodium content of the prepackaged or frozen food you eat. It has a ton. There is no sodium in natures food, unless some food company loads it with salt and preservatives and then freezes it and some lazy ass human buys it to eat later because he was too lazy to prep himself.  BTW- salt/sodium dehydrates your cells. If you are constantly eating sodium foods then you are constantly starving and dehydrating your cells. If your cells are not properly lubricated they become weak and when your cells are constantly weakened you are asking for disease to come in to the weakened cell. I am not saying eat no sodium. It is hard to do today. Just keep sodium intake to the minimum.
