Anonymous Hacks Department Of Justice, Threatens To Release Secret DOJ Information, Warns "There Will Be Chaos"

Tyler Durden's picture

Nearly two years ago, the hacktivist group Anonymous made waves around the fringes of financial media by announcing "Operation Empire State Rebelion" whose goal was to "engage in a relentless campaign of non-violent, peaceful, civil disobedience until Ben Bernanke steps down and the Primary Dealers within the Federal Reserve banking system be broken up and held accountable for rigging markets and destroying the global economy effective immediately." Needless to say nothing came out of it, and OperationESR was promptly forgotten as Anonymous had apparently met its match in the face of the Fed and the Primary Dealers.

Now, in the aftermath of the Aaron Swartz suicide which has put the entire hacking community on high alert, Anonymous is back with yet another campaign, this one titled "Operation Last Resort", which was revealed to the public when Anonymous took control of the website for the the US Sentencing Commission for nearly one full day from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening, using it as a venue from which to distribute a massive 1.3 GB encrypted file titled Warhead-US-DOJ-LEA-2013.AES256 which may contain secret information sourced from the Department of Justice (hence the files contained are named after SCOTUS justices) and which Anonymous threatens to release unless massive reforms take place at the DOJ - reforms which will certainly never see the light of day, meaning Anonymous will have no choice but to make the contents of said file public.

The contents of the AES256 encrypted "warhead" folder contain nine files eacg named after a Supreme Court Justice as seen below:

14965755e21467d13ac807031f97e2bc     Alito.Warhead1

As ZDNet reports:

In the defacement text, Anonymous also said it placed "multiple warheads" on "compromised systems" on various unnamed websites, and encouraged members to download the encrypted files from that are "primed, armed and quietly distributed to numerous mirrors."

Anonymous called the launch of it new campaign a "warhead."

Anonymous posted the following video to the site stating that this attack is the beginning of what it calls "Operation Last Resort."

In a verbose essay attached to the file, Anonymous itself says the following about the contents of the encrypted released file:

The contents are various and we won’t ruin the speculation by revealing them. Suffice it to say, everyone has secrets, and some things are not meant to be public. At a regular interval commencing today, we will choose one media outlet and supply them with heavily redacted partial contents of the file. Any media outlets wishing to be eligible for this program must include within their reporting a means of secure communications.

We have not taken this action lightly, nor without consideration of the possible consequences. Should we be forced to reveal the trigger-key to this warhead, we understand that there will be collateral damage. We appreciate that many who work within the justice system believe in those principles that it has lost, corrupted, or abandoned, that they do not bear the full responsibility for the damages caused by their occupation.

In other words, the file is, at least to Anonymous, the equivalent of a hostage. So what are their hostage release demands?

in order for there to be a peaceful resolution to this crisis, certain things need to happen. There must be reform of outdated and poorly-envisioned legislation, written to be so broadly applied as to make a felony crime out of violation of terms of service, creating in effect vast swathes of crimes, and allowing for selective punishment. There must be reform of mandatory minimum sentencing. There must be a return to proportionality of punishment with respect to actual harm caused, and consideration of motive and mens rea. The inalienable right to a presumption of innocence and the recourse to trial and possibility of exoneration must be returned to its sacred status, and not gambled away by pre-trial bargaining in the face of overwhelming sentences, unaffordable justice and disfavourable odds. Laws must be upheld unselectively, and not used as a weapon of government to make examples of those it deems threatening to its power.

For good reason the statue of lady justice is blindfolded. No more should her innocence be besmirked, her scales tipped, nor her swordhand guided. Furthermore there must be a solemn commitment to freedom of the internet, this last great common space of humanity, and to the common ownership of information to further the common good.

Naturally, following the the past 4 years of gross dereliction of the US DOJ responsibilities, and this week's very demonstrative exit of US Assistant AG Lanny Breuer in the aftermath of the humiliating Frontline special on the "Untouchables", one can't help but feel sympathetic to Anonymous' quest, which at least superficially is attempting to restore some trace of justice in the USA. Anonymous ends its letter with a threat:

We demand the government does not make the mistake of hoping that time will dampen its ringing, that they can ride out this wave of determination, that business as usual can continue after a sufficient period of lip-service and back-patting.

Not this time. This time there will be change, or there will be chaos…

However, following the complete failure of previous grand plans by Anonymous to take on the highest echelons of US authority, one can't help but be skeptical that this time attempt to put the blindfold back on Lady Justice will too be a dud.

Here is the clip that Anonymous created to go alongside its "warhead" file release:

And Anonymous' full letter:

Citizens of the world,

Anonymous has observed for some time now the trajectory of justice in the United States with growing concern. We have marked the departure of this system from the noble ideals in which it was born and enshrined. We have seen the erosion of due process, the dilution of constitutional rights, the usurpation of the rightful authority of courts by the “discretion” of prosecutors. We have seen how the law is wielded less and less to uphold justice, and more and more to exercise control, authority and power in the interests of oppression or personal gain.

We have been watching, and waiting.

Two weeks ago today, a line was crossed. Two weeks ago today, Aaron Swartz was killed. Killed because he faced an impossible choice. Killed because he was forced into playing a game he could not win — a twisted and distorted perversion of justice — a game where the only winning move was not to play.

Anonymous immediately convened an emergency council to discuss our response to this tragedy. After much heavy-hearted discussion, the decision was upheld to engage the United States Department of Justice and its associated executive branches in a game of a similar nature, a game in which the only winning move is not to play.

Last year the Federal Bureau of Investigation revelled in porcine glee at its successful infiltration of certain elements of Anonymous. This infiltration was achieved through the use of the *same tactics which lead to Aaron Swartz’ death. It would not have been possible were it not for the power of federal prosecutors to thoroughly destroy the lives of any hacktivists they apprehend through the very real threat of highly disproportionate sentencing.

As a result of the FBI’s infiltration and entrapment tactics, several more of our brethren now face similar disproportionate persecution, the balance of their lives hanging on the severely skewed scales of a broken justice system.

We have felt within our hearts a burning rage in reaction to these events, but we have not allowed ourselves to be drawn into a foolish and premature response. We have bidden our time, operating in the shadows, adapting our tactics and honing our abilities. We have allowed the FBI and its masters in government — both the puppet and the shadow government that controls it — to believe they had struck a crippling blow to our infrastructure, that they had demoralized us, paralyzed us with paranoia and fear. We have held our tongue and waited.

With Aaron’s death we can wait no longer. The time has come to show the United States Department of Justice and its affiliates the true meaning of infiltration. The time has come to give this system a taste of its own medicine. The time has come for them to feel the helplessness and fear that comes with being forced into a game where the odds are stacked against them.

This website was chosen due to the symbolic nature of its purpose — the federal sentencing guidelines which enable prosecutors to cheat citizens of their constitutionally-guaranteed right to a fair trial, by a jury of their peers — the federal sentencing guidelines which are in clear violation of the 8th amendment protection against cruel and unusual punishments. This website was also chosen due to the nature of its visitors. It is far from the only government asset we control, and we have exercised such control for quite some time…

There has been a lot of fuss recently in the technological media regarding such operations as Red October, the widespread use of vulnerable browsers and the availability of zero-day exploits for these browsers and their plugins. None of this comes of course as any surprise to us, but it is perhaps good that those within the information security industry are making the extent of these threats more widely understood.

Still there is nothing quite as educational as a well-conducted demonstration…

Through this websites and various others that will remain unnamed, we have been conducting our own infiltration. We did not restrict ourselves like the FBI to one high-profile compromise. We are far more ambitious, and far more capable. Over the last two weeks we have wound down this operation, removed all traces of leakware from the compromised systems, and taken down the injection apparatus used to detect and exploit vulnerable machines.

We have enough fissile material for multiple warheads. Today we are launching the first of these. Operation Last Resort has begun…

Warhead – U S – D O J – L E A – 2013 . A E E 256 is primed and armed. It has been quietly distributed to numerous mirrors over the last few days and is available for download from this website now. We encourage all Anonymous to syndicate this file as widely as possible.

It is our hope that this warhead need never be detonated.

However, in order for there to be a peaceful resolution to this crisis, certain things need to happen. Furthermore there must be a solemn commitment to freedom of the internet, this last great common space of humanity, and to the common ownership of information to further the common good.

We make this statement do not expect to be negotiated with; we do not desire to be negotiated with. We understand that due to the actions we take we exclude ourselves from the system within which solutions are found. There are others who serve that purpose, people far more respectable than us, people whose voices emerge from the light, and not the shadows. These voices are already making clear the reforms that have been necessary for some time, and are outright required now.

It is these people that the justice system, the government, and law enforcement must engage with. Their voices are already ringing strong with a chorus of determined resolution. We demand only that this chorus is not ignored. We demand the government does not make the mistake of hoping that time will dampen its ringing, that they can ride out this wave of determination, that business as usual can continue after a sufficient period of lip-service and back-patting.

Not this time. This time there will be change, or there will be chaos…

Please. If anonymous had anything it would be in the public domain domain already. A "Council" got together? It's a leaderless, decentralized collective. This has false flag written all over it - a good way for DOJ, et al to purge a large swath of non-NWO muppets, usher in massive cyber security funding and round up a shitload more well-meaning dupes.

Love the message. Which is why I ain't buying it.

These people aren't well intentioned.  That's a facade - and we have to stop being so naive.

They gave Wall Street ammo to bet on food stuffs and starve millions of children.

Goldman Sachs Made 400 Million Betting On Food Prices In 2012 While Hundreds Of Millions Starved

For those Stockholm sufferers who want to justify this, understand this class of psychos have been doing this for hundreds of years...  and apparently enjoy the deaths of children.

Gentlemen! I too have been a close observer of the doings of the Bank of the United States. I have had men watching you for a long time, and am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I have determined to rout you out, and by the Eternal, (bringing his fist down on the table) I will rout you out!

Except they no longer charge the bank, they found a greater fool and simply charge the tax paying serfs now.

They elevated their game and the masses thinks this is all a mistake by "good intentioned" people.

Debt Money Tyranny is a fraud and, quite literally, Weapons of Mass Debt.

They are out to purposefully hurt you and yours.

They know that the insider, crony bailout money is YOUR INEXTINGUISHABLE DEBT, PAYABLE TO THE INSIDER CRONIES.

“It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning. The one aim of these financiers is world control by the creation of inextinguishable debt.”
~Henry Ford

That chart helps you understand what Ford said you didn't understand.

Inextinguishable debt IS THE GOAL... and leads to psychopathic world domininance by the people who CONTROL the central banking system (not the bankers themselves, THEY ARE CONTROLLED BY BIGGEST FINANCE CAPITAL).

Make no mistake, these people are either dimwits or criminals.

That's why nobody will tell you the Fed has broken Section 2A of the Federal Reserve Act for 30 years running and that's the ROOT CAUSE of the debt bubble that is currently collapsing.

Read the law - the mandate is to keep monetary and credit aggregates "commensurate with" the long term productive potential of the country.

As evidenced by the first chart, these criminals took monetary and credit aggregates "exponential to" (parabolic) productive reality.

By definition, this is criminal activity.

But, alas, nobody will point out that prices aren't stable, either.  Inflating prices can't be "stable," by definition.

Nobody on bankstervision fision financed Vicchy TeeVee programming (you) will tell you that Veritas, though.

Oh, and the fact that Section 2A "laws" come with no penalties.

While I haven't done so, Karl Denninger claimed to have read the entirety of FinReg and he said there is not a single "or else" penalty in the whole stinkin' think.

Oligarchs don't have laws with penalties...  meaning they aren't even laws at all.

Just propaganda for the ignorant masses to debate believing themselves to be above the lower sheeple.

Wake up.  All of our futures depend upon it.

I'm hearing the following in the Vicchy Media...

1. Cyber crime is a big threat.

2. Banks are threatened by cybercrime.

3. Even the DOJ is hacked by nebuloous entities (bankster handmaiden CIA false flag, perhaps?)

Now, if I was a criminal who wanted to loot a population, I wouldn't want to be blamed for it so that everyone would go all "French Revolution" on me.

I'd need a scapegoat.

With that thought in mind, and the knowledge that the banking system is a Ponzi about to explode and wipe out the masses, it seems to me the stage is being set for the government to blame the Chinese (or gun owners, libertarians, conservatives, "sovereign citizens," anyone who dislikes the Federal Reserve Trojan Horse, anyone who dislikes the police state, etc...) for a cyber attack that liquidates your banking account.

Caveat emptor

Head on a swivel.

I also suspect they may get Iran to stop oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz or they may stop it somehow and blame Iran (blowing up ships and the like).

That way they could blame Iran when $8 gas triggers the societal monetary Ponzi collapse.  The insiders won't collapse, just everyone else.

You know, because the insiders are dumb and all.  Only the smart people are impoverished and starving.

Britam Defence is British private military company, operates mainly in the Middle East. It killed Arabs in Iraq and plans to invade in Iran and Syria.

Look through leaked documents carefully. CW means chemical weapon, g-shell is short for a gas shell I guess.

It is an indication you can't justify your position, which only seeks to feed back the idea what I've said is correct.  It is is correct, I keep saying it.  If it isn't, do share your wisdom and insight so I can learn.

Hi Matt. I'm actually not touchy - if I were I wouldn't do what I do for free, assuming my time is worthless and I get no "entertainment value" from it.

I believe, very strongly, that my future depends on an educated and rational thinking population...  some a population of emotionally whipped up irrational people manipulated by the people with the most money - and the biggest media message.

I challenge people to think rationally, not irrationally because they can't get over their irrational emotional triggers.

For those that can, and there are plenty on ZH, good on ya.

For those that haven't ever tested their decision making, now is the time.  The future of free people literally depends upon it.

Criminal tyrants are sprinting towards their totalitariam wet dream as I type.

Research history to see what this means.  While FEMA camps sound crazy now (even to me), what happens when they collapse the economy (a 100% ceertain event)?

Well, the people will be rounded up and put in camps because they can't survive on their own (the grocery store is closed).

What do you do with people in camps?  Forced labor.

The army's manual on re-education in these camps is already out in the public domain - and they brzenly use Soviet totalitarian name... "re-education camp."

Many people who think chaos will uproot the banksters when chaos is a key operation in the bankster plan to destroy liberty around the world. search "IMF Riots."

The banksters love these things, which is why they orchestrate and provocateur them, mainly through their government handmaiden class.

BTW, chaos won't be good for gold, or anyting else, from the common man's perspective.

"The banksters love these things, which is why they orchestrate and provocateur them, mainly through their government handmaiden class."

I disagree.  (note that I have not been junking you, just presenting, for the umpteenth time why I don't like this reasoning)  The reason is that these folks REQUIRE stability- the status quo is what works for them.  Severe instability and chaos is TOO complicated to predict the outcome over: did those oligarchs in early 1900s Russia think that chaos was good?

OK, based on the example of the Russian revolution above you are inclined, if I can predict your response, is that it wasn't the ruling class who instigated the disturbance.  BINGO!  Here's where there needs to be clarification:

ONLY IF they can predict and control the outcome of major disturbances will those in power attempt to engage in major disturbances.  OK, an exception would be if they saw that things were going to go the hell no matter what then they might figure to perform some sort of "first strike" in the hopes that they can have some sort of control (suicide perhaps).  It is this last angle that I think that we're seeing; this means that things are pretty much poised to go to shit regardless (please be sure to read:; best is to find the entire paper and read that).

Seer, I appreciate your counter argument and your explanation thereof.  Thanks for taking the time.

If I might share my thoughts...

Take a look at this chart...

I showed that chart to a 5th grader and explained it to him.  Within 30 seconds his response was, and I quote, "we'll never pay that back."  That counts as a "major disturbance" in my book.  ;-)

30 years is a long time to run a particular kind of criminal credit blowing operation.  During the bubble phase, stability seems to be the norm.  We get used to it.  We extrapolate a 30 past into the indefinite future. But exponential debt growth is, by definition, unsustainable.  What is unsustainable, by definition, will end.  It is the end of the relatively stable bubble times of which I speak when I talk about the brutality of the engineered bust.  If you engineer the bubble, you surely know the bust is coming as well.  These people aren't stupid, they are, if you will, "illuminated."  It is the sheeple who don't understand these things and fall prey to the sophistry of congenital liars.

But debt money is a Ponzi scheme - the debt has to grow exponentially or the people in the system are wiped out en masse as the money to pay the debts doesn't exist in the non money definer / creator classes - about 99.99% of the population.

While it may seem like the person blowing up that balloon appreciates the stability while it is blowing up, eventually the "pop" can be predicted.

The same is true of the credit bubble - it will pop and they know it.

I have no doubt they want stability as the world's largest credit bubble implodes en masse, but they aren't stupid.  They also aren't putting out orders for 1.6 billion DHS bullets a year, claiming the right to assassinate American citizens with no due process, writing "re-education manuals" and giving them to the Army, sending 10 million jobs to China (slave labor, child murdering, organ running), etc and expecting long term stability.

Oh, and now, all of a sudden, they care about children when the murder rate from guns is down 45% or so from 1992.  So the problem was twice as big then, but not a problem.  NOW, as we enter the bankruptcy of the nation phase they planned out over 100 years ago*, they want to demonize gun owners and go after their self defense ability while the government arms to the teeth.  That doesn't sound like a group looking for stability.  That sounds like a predator about to "pop" its prey - and they want them as defenseless as possible.

Stability works on the way up.  To a degree it works during the current looting phase (off load their debts onto society and looting trillions in cash that everyone else has to pay back, with interest, to the looters...  I couldn't make that up).

But the idea that stability is their #1 goal is inconsistent with blowing credit bubbles they know will pop and ruin society.

Have you read up on "IMF Riots?"  If not, do some research there.

The key point to remember is that the banksters know money is worthless - they want reality.  Now they have the trillions in cash and trillions more in debt ownership.

Now they obviously want to turn that worthless cash into your stuff.  And my stuff.  And everyone else's stuff.

They do that by bankrupting you when this unsustainable, debt based crime spree comes to an end.

And it will with a 100% certainty, although I can't know exactly when, principly because insiders will want to orchestrate it to their benefit and I can't read their minds.

I get what I say is scary for the common person.  It is the Big Bad, as it were.  But our pain is the criminal oligarch gain...  and they are so greedy they privatized rain water in Bolivia and rolled it up under their Bechtel corporate front.

I think your view is right up until the game fundamentally changes, but fundamental change is on the way and the bannksters and government are preparing for it.

The underlying Ponzi math they created argues against stability.

The bankruptcy of America (100% sure - there is no mathematical way out now) is assured and argues against stability.

DHS arming to the teeth doesn't argue for stability

The complete destruction of persoanl liberties argues against stability.

The declaration that America is a battlefield argues against stability.

A nation of debt serfs with their debt cut off argues against stability (even if they hyperinflated - that also argues against stability).

Mises also argues against stability as well, given that the credit bubble has already been blown...

There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as a result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved."
— Ludwig von Mises

"no means of avoiding the final collapse."

As I said, though, I think your hyposthesis is right up until the 100% certain credit bust begins to dominate the nation's experience... and that might be for another few months to even a few years.

But when there isno means of avoiding that final collapse, it stands to reason that the people that orchestrated the final collapse will like to control its flow as much as possible.

I know I would if I was Machiavellian.

I think Ford, one of the world's biggest industrialists of his era, who put it all in perfect perspective...  for those who have ears to listen.

“It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning. The one aim of these financiers is world control by the creation of inextinguishable debt.”
~Henry Ford

World control through a fraudulent, societal asset stripping debt based monetary system does note promote stabiblity in the long term.

Debt Money Tyranny

BTW, I do hope for long term stability.  But hope isn't enough for me.  Neither is self interest.  I look to the facts and they don't align in a way where stability is the name of the game once this bubble pops in earnest of, for those stuck on serious inflation, will serious inflation go over well when the number of employed people drops, population continues to grow and wages and work hours are flat to down.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

First off, great post.  Absolute truth.

Second, I actually think that both you guys are a lot closer to each other then apart.

(When I see posts like yours: actually understanding the problems that are before us, my spirit is lifted.  Many on this website have been only half informed digging no further.  I think what you are doing is important, educating and leading people to actual knowledge is still task number one.  Along with physical and mental preparation for oneself.)

Thanks for the comment.  I agree, I don't think we are that far apart, just clarifying ttime frames and context.

Sorry about the typos and the odd missing word. ;-)  I'm hammering this stuff out with a lot on my mind and I'm not proof reading for mistakes.

Please do all you can to get that Debt Money Tyranny graphic out.

That's absolute proof, beyond and all doubt, that our money system is bankrupting us by design.

I posted that graphic at work and coworker literally refused to look at it when I asked him to discuss it.  I think he had previously seen it and understood it so he knew he had to avoid it or he'd have to emotionally deal with somethiing that shook his world view to the core and then tossed it in the trash.

He wasn't ready for that.

Another guy I tried to warn at work would consistently blow me off.  "Things will get better, this is nothing new."

He got laid off in our third layoff without hiring.

If he had his storable food lined up like I recommended, he's doing a lot better than if he didn't follow that advice.

#1 on anyone's list isn't glamorous gold or silver - it is gaining control over the necessities of life.

If things get bad enough, people with silver coins will be trading them for $1.50 worth of dental floss, maybe $3.00 worth.

Don't floss your teeth for a month and then consider how what I just postulated would fair after 3 months or 6 months without flossing.

Food, water, protection, housing, transportation and community come to mind off the top of my head.

Our side is growing.  I can read people here on ZH that do "get it."  The over arching paradigm of a criminal bankster element running things through the fraudulent debt money pushing Federal Reserve is clear in their posts - and this is great.

The more commentors that tie ZH content to the correct world paradigm of criminals orchestrating this debt money collapse and riding government like it was their new cadilac, the better.

When everyone here keeps tying the articles to the criminal international banking cartel, then we will have made some serious progress.

I get that a debt satureated society will have many fully emotionally invested iin straight to hyperinflation (which is exactly the reason it won't happen) ooutcome.

Even if they disagree on that particular, we are on the same team so long as we correctly identify the problem of criminals running the show through the government structure.

Anything big is presumed evil and wicked...  especially multi-national type entities.  They have the power to control governments and seriously damage populations.

Shop local, shop small, use cash (credit pays these criminals about 3% of the amount charged).  The only true vote we have is how we spend our money.

We could eliminate the profits of the the international banking cartel's Wal-Mart corporate front within a month if we cut our business down just 25% and spent that money to support our local communities.

We have power, which is why they keep us ignorant...  just like we were chattel.

I just watched MAAFA 21 - I think it is free on Youtube.  It expounds on the scietntific genocide used by the dElites to attack the African American population.

What they didin't do was explain that those same principles are used by the dElites to passively attack everyone at this juncture in history.  We are all black Africans in the eyes of the dElites right now...  sucking up the resources of the planet they want for themselves and their offspring.

And yes, Trav, my Jewish neighbor is a victim of the criminals international banking cartel's effort to covertly "control population."

The obvious counter argument is that they look around at inside deals, the rampant "appropriation" of common and personal goods, and the utter lack of any consideration of another's well being and come to the logical conclusion that chaos can't be much worse then where this country is headed.  In fact, chaos might just have the only possibility of a better life for all rest of us that aren't "important".

Put another way: sure chaos will hurt, but at least I will be able to heal once it is over.

Meanwhile, it won't. But the gesture must be made.

I have held on to the truth for another for a bit and it paid off big, they got their affairs in order, they were not hurt. Then I let the truth go (I craved it). Then someone tried to blackmail me with the old secret. What a triumph to see them holding their metaphorical dick, I had already told who needed to know, there was no secret, no leverage, no blackmail to be had, only honesty.

Most people have forgotten this, so it's probably worth reminding everyone:   Just before Julian Assange got taken down, Assange claimed he had accumulated data related to the banking system.   That information was never leaked, and we all know what happened. But that information didn't die and go to information heaven ...and it clearly came from high level sources...   We won't know what's in this leak until (and if) Anonymous decides to pull the trigger, but it's worth considering that this could be similar information.  And we know (based on how ruthlessly they went after Assange) just how terrified of its release they were. This could get interesting...

Given that it's supposedly from the DOJ it could also have to do with Corzine, HSBC, LIBOR or any other case with legal implications which was subsequently scuttled in favor of stability.

While I am not sure what is what I can say that both Anon and Assange are the only forces in the media that have gotten the platform to say things about corruption in govts and banking and actually have people listen.

Wouldn't Bradley Manning be charged with conspiracy to commit treason or some other offense if Assange were a rat?  I guess they don't need to charge him as Manning has been held without trial, which is supposedly illegal and unconstitutional, for 974 days.  Incidentally on Feb 23 will be Bradley Manning's 1000th day in jail without trial.

Also, if Assange were a rat it would make sense to maintain the Wikileaks donation payment network that was shut down by paypal and credit cards because they would more easily be able to track the donors.

If someone had to be stuck in a house, a foreign embassy, surrounded by police in a foreign land and they worked for the very people that placed them there that would suck terribly I'd say.  The UK gov. must be spending ridiculous amounts of money just to keep the place covered.  All that for a facade?

The way the gov reacted to these "threats" shows their ineptitude which leads me to believe they are operating as usual, completely incompetent, in the face of actual "threats".

Manning's position can be explained ("justified") because he was a US service member (they pretty much give up their rights when signing the military contract).

Assange is interesting because he's NOT a US citizen.  No easy laws to corral him with.  That said, he serves as a nice tool for TPTB to threaten anyone else out there who may have their hands on "documents."  I suspect that many such people are likely to be among the "disappeared," and how would we know any different?  Anyone who thinks that this isn't Communist Russia or some other heavy-handed, export-them-to-Siberia kind of country just doesn't understand what POWER really means.

So, resorting to the simple explanation of govt being incompetent is, I believe, a vast mistake.  People have NO idea the levels of propaganda out there.  Yeah, govt has some clowns running around -they are left out there because they serve the purpose (of making people think that they are ALL clowns), but the over-all results are hard to argue with (when one stops to realize that throughout it all TPTB are STILL in power).

Yeah, I agree, as well as think you have a suitable ironic name, Banksters, to make that point!

I do not believe any significant organization could exist without being infiltrated and taken over by those who have trillions of times more resources to pay for doing that. There is no reasonable way to have an effective opposition. That means that the inherent madness MUST get worse, and finally cause choas, due to too much "success" causing final failure. The real world is dominated by a group of trillionaire mass murderers, the Banksters. They can make endless "money" out of nothing, to pay for anything that they want to pay for.  There is no credible opposition that is remotely close to being in their league! Therefore, I do not believe that there will be any real opposition that we will ever hear about that was not compromised, black operations, that were engaged in false flag attacks.

Too bad, so sad.  However, insane social storms seem the only possible thing which can happen, and anybody who attempts to "change" things is probably only precipitating that. As far as I can tell, the "opposition" is even more full of shit than the establishment. Of course, that does not mean I agree with the established social pyramid system of force backed frauds! It only means that I can not believe in anything being significantly able to operate outside of that. Those who pretend to do so are the ones most probably still within, and covertly operating for the systems they pretend to oppose.

We are headed towards social chaos, becoming crazier and crazier. However, I am not aware of anybody anywhere who is able to do anything about that, other than continue to participate in it, in their own ways ... The vast majority of alleged "opposition" appears to me to be controlled, reactionary revolutionaries. I tend to despise them just as much, if not more, than the established elites operating the banksters' systems. I would expect the banksters to be paying for the creation of situations which will give them excuses to shut the Internet down.

We are probably still fortunate to be living in the calm before the storms. It is partially possible to imagine an earthquake, or hurricane, etc., but quite another to actually be living through one! The established systems are based on huge lies, backed up by violence that can never make those lies become true. Therefore, those systems MUST drive themselves through psychotic breakdowns. However, nobody seems to be able to do anything outside of that, which is remotely close to being significant!

We cannot defend the indefensible, and neither can TPTB.  Mother Nature is coming up to bat.  If one hasn't already done so I strongly suggest (unless you really don't like life) that one have a come to Mother Nature meeting, get to know nature.  NOTE: one could replace "Mother Nature" with "God" or whatever, same idea; however, key is that people will need to ready themselves to do a LOT more physical work in order to live (that and reduce inputs/consumption drastically).

A strong argument could be made that all that we see around us, human-made, IS chaos, and that the "destruction" of this chaos is itself chaos.  Fundamentals: Food, Shelter and Water.

Since I believe that everything is interconnected, I tend to believe that when civilization goes crazy, nature will be going nuts at the same time. Obviously, most of the time human beings care more about other human beings than anything else. However, Nature/God IS INFINITELY BIGGER! ... SO WHO KNOWS ???

Of course, I am still childish enough to WISH that what this video by anonymous says was actually going to be backed up. ... I kind of have an immature desire to see the chaos start ... (although, when I think more about that, not really.)

As always, I agree with their analysis of what is wrong, but can not agree that anything is possible to actually do that will not actually backfire, and make things worse ... But then, I can sympathize with those pushed far enough that they will defend themselves, despite the probably backfiring consequences of doing that.

As many, many other comments on Zero Hedge imply, a lot of people are fed up with watching and waiting, as things obviously get worse and worse, and the government of the USA becomes more and more of a runaway monster of EVER GROWING ENORMOUS LIES, BACKED UP BY INCREASING VIOLENCE.  We DO appear to already have passed the point where the Constitution which gave that government power has been so violated that there is barely a shred of legitimacy left ...

Yet still, I must predict that any reaction to the government becoming totally treasonous will only make it become even worse, which is NOT nice to imagine! ... History provides lots of real examples of that kind of government imposing democidal martial law. The technologies available to do that now are many orders of magnitude greater than ever before in human history. It goes off the scale of my ability to imagine how to cope with developments where more death squads were to become routinely operating within America ... THE PROBLEM is that the Federal Government of the USA appears to clearly be headed towards starting to more blatantly do that! They are already pretending that they somehow have given themselves the "legal right" to do that!

Although there are no good grounds to believe that the political processes could save itself through "democratic means," I like to continue to indulge in the day dreams that there could be some series of political miracles where it might. ... BUT, BUT, BUT, the realities look like the Federal Government of the USA becoming so completely out of control criminal, by acting in such blatant disregard of the constitutional framework that it is supposed to be operating within, that there is finally NOTHING LEFT.

But if there was a file decrypted with a video showing Eric Holder and Barack Obama violating and murdering nude children and defecating on the flag, would the story make it off of page 8 of the New York Times?

.. and how many weeks later would Boehner muse that he should have taken a different course of action in the situation?

We have, at least twice, with Wikileak's BofA debacle and the Wikileaks "Insurance" file.

The BofA thing was sabotaged -- a Wikileaks insider actually deleted files and the key. I'm positive that was done because he worked for/was aligned with someone within the governments.

The insurance file hasn't had its key released because Assange hasn't been taken into custody.

At some point one of these leaks will deliver, but my guess is that either it won't be touched by the media, that an internet kill switch gets activated, and in either case a massive disinformation campaign gets launched. The fact the that US is going absolutely ballistic on whistleblowers -- and the fact that there's so many blatantly obvious legal transgressions by the government -- makes it a certainty there's something "big" to hide. I can't imagine what something that's 10X bigger than fast and furious might look like, but it'll be a show to be sure, perhaps something like the Franklin credit union coverup that actually sees the light of day.

My bets would be on something coming out of FBI/DoJ or US State dept.

Explicit details of tampering with national election results would make gun-running look like small beer, dontcha think?

What's funny is: most Americans already know our electoral process is a joke.  Still, the lack of proof makes for a great deal of complacency.

BTW: To anyone with the ability to collect a copy of the files being torrented, I recommend doing so, even if you're not prepared to deal with the decryption process.  Broad distribution is helpful to maintain integrity of the information.

The presentation is convincing. Entertaining the possibility that it is the real deal, I wouldn't presume to suggest what Anon should or shouldn't do, but frankly, there is a whiff of naivete to this.

Threats abound. Some have teeth. But you don't change the direction of an individual or an organization, never mind an entire "justice" system, based merely/only on a credible (?) threat. Speaking purely theoretically, based on depictions in Hollywood, the next step is probably to disclose part of the info: a trial balloon. The response could be educational. The need for mainstream media involvement is unclear.

Psychopaths are nothing if not pragmatic. If they see demonstration of a position of strength accompanied by willingness to honor a contract, constructive groundwork can be laid. Think like a card player. Never show all your cards.

I wonder if this is nothing more than an exercise to tease out responses and identify real potential opposition, among other things.

John Q. Public won't give a damn regardless. "Don't waste my time; I wanna watch football."

Supposedly Aaron Swartz blundered into data on O's election machine rigging.  O rigged 2012 and probably 2008.  2012 included machines and also late night voting in cities.  Romney is not much better but he won the swing states.

The power that be rigged the Santorum Romney primary because they wanted Romney.  They did it in the big cities like Detroit, all the Ohio cities, Milwaukee and others.  Santorum was crushing Romney in the Midwest.   I am not saying Santorum was any better but we had two election riggings in 2012.  Some have said this is why Romney was quiet about Obama rigging the election.

TLDL - Too long, didn't leak. I pray for something juicy, something that could start an American spring. I envison a million Rascal army decending on Washington, demanding change and reform in America after they found out about huge bank bailouts, illegal drone strikes, GOVT gun smuggling, the killing of children by drones and military, corrupt contracts for military devices that never work, or a CONgress that is bought on both sides of the isle. Imagine what would happen if Anonymous leaked this type of info to the American public, what would be the response? We the sheeple would stand up and fight, since they never came for our guns, right? The sad truth is whatever is in these files, Americans are to fat, dumb, and stupid to care at this point. Most people think the Supreme Court is a new show on NBC, and that voting matters still. Hell, the fact that people bought the whole "Zero-Dark-Thirty" bit is a sign of how far gone we are. Why wouldn't you capture Bin Laden alive at all costs, so you could waterboard him and get some real info, if he really mattered?

If this file has big words, and no titties in it, no one outside of Alex Jones and the crew here will ever care. Maybe if it has a photo of Sotomeyor getting fisted by Roberts it would draw some attention, but the only outcome of that happening would a large amount of American "monkey see, money do." Wonder if that would be covered by Obamacare?

The DoJ networks get penetrated more than a choirboy after mass, and just like the choirboy, no one sees or reports a thing. The NSA has bigger things to worry about than the trappings of "justice," their job is to monitor communications to see if the sheeple are getting edgy as the country sinks lower and lower. The NSA used to have to work hard for that info, until Facebook came along, and everyone does it for them.

Sadly, I am going to have to agree with this.  It's not their MO to blackmail.  There's a lack of lulz.  The demands being made will never be considered, due to the fact that once made, it's rather difficult to undo them again and the extortion sitution remains unchanged.  Which of course means it will always be held over their heads until it's not.

The insurance file is just that, it's a deadman's switch, a failsafe... ideally under a system that assange has no control over.  If he was in the wind and made demands "or else" it doesn't really work very well.

Under this situation, the solution is either you expend resources to identify the actors behind it and turn them using pressure with any deal contingent on the data never being released and them never speaking of it.  OR, you say fuck it, release it.  Calling the bluff and immediately discounting it as fabrication, unverifiable, out of context, cherry picked, etc.  Maybe sack a scapegoat in response and use the chatter from it to identify those responsible in the first place.

If you hack into a system and uncover a bombshell, you don't sit on it.  You let it loose.  The outrage from that alone, if potent should be enough to cause change.  If it fails, the mission was doomed from the get go anyways.  In the meantime, you get lulz.  Unredacted, all out in the open, full out release is the only possible way to counter government propaganda, as it catches them with their pants down and any statement will be reactionary and pathetic, only serving to further flame outrage generated.

Therefore, under the circumstances given, I judge it to be a bluff and outright bullshit.  Using the wikileaks strategy, but lacking any actual payload.  They hacked a website, good for them.  That's all they did though.
