Maybe Uncle Warren doesn't like to 'make it rain' (see here) because Becky forgot her umbrella again? And yes, the fact that even TMZ is on to the Octogenarian of Omaha, and his perpetual arm candy, is probably most amusing of all.

And here is why Buffett will never be seen walking to a Saturday night gala with a block of gold:

Today the world’s gold stock is about 170,000 metric tons. If all of this gold were melded together, it would form a cube of about 68 feet per side. (Picture it fitting comfortably within a baseball infield.) At $1,750 per ounce – gold’s price as I write this – its value would be $9.6 trillion....You can fondle the cube, but it will not respond.

Slaughterer- you're one of the few people telling it like it is (shout out to you too fonzanoon) and I cant believe that is met with such opprobrium here. Its as though the crowd gets offended that you state the obvious in terms of market rigging...

Come On guys, what do you expect from AAPL- $200? its never gonna happen- $400 is bottom here and its not as though we cant all see why this was done in the first place. AAPL's ramp single handedly dragged up the Nasdaq and the S&P through much of 2012- now they've brought it back down (to what will be called "bargain basement prices" by CNBC a month from now), and STILL The S&P is at 1500 as they've now gotten everything else in the index incl. transports at nosebleed levels due to multiple expansion!

Isnt it obvious? The roles will get reversed again and AAPL will now take the reins again (its rise back to $600 taking the market to fresh all time highs), while other things churn for a while.

The Fed wants new market highs while keeping an artificial lid on commodities (esp. PMs) so it can say "see, no inflation!" but the "market" is booming so thats your "recovery" meme...

Finally, someone who understands the AAPL dump (and oncoming pump).  There is just too much cartel/HF interest in seeing AAPL at higher prices.

One product announcement or China deal and AAPL is over $500 and on to $600 in a FLASH.

January is always the month where the leftover trash from tax-selling is scooped up (NFLX, case in point).  February will see that move faded, and the AAPL pump recontinued.

Thanks man and seriously big up to you for pointing out the obvious here inspite of natural hatred for APPL among the zh community. Its my first day posting on zh (been reading religiously for 2 years but the 4-6 day registration waiting period always felt like a turn-off), and I just want to commend you and a few other people (you can tell who does this for a living among the commenters) for keeping it real when it comes to whats going on.

I would have thought the upcoming ramp to $600 was one of the man made wonders visible from space...?

Whats so absolutely stunning to me is that almost NOBODY, irrelevant of how smart, seems to be able to put together the big picture. Everyone is so busy trying to figure out if the great MMT experiment will result in hyperinflation or deflation that they end up seeing the trees and missing the forest. What is really going on is so simple: now that we are in the digital age and even paper money is obsolete, there is no more REAL accounting for things. Going digital for the money supply is the equivalent of a star collapsing into a black hole. It means from now on there is a new paradigm where everything is made up as we go along.

In fact there is a really simple way to put this: The great Fed experiment is not with inflation at all, it is with behavioral finance.

It is the ultimate triumph of applied behavioral finance over the efficient markets hypothesis. The idea that you can get people to believe in the Bernanke Put (whether its real or not doesnt really matter) expressed through a perpetual bull market, to such a degree that this inspires so much confidence that people just stop caring about real structural problems, which then go away on their own so long as we just dont believe in them.

You know HC Andersen's original ending to 'The Emperors New' clothes was exactly that- everyone admiring the emperor and nobody noticing...

By the way, have you heard my favorite joke about gold:

{before I tell this, I just want to wave a quick white flag to the tin-foil hat crown that dominates here and say I get it- my grandfather stacked 1967 Krugerrands on what was just a small side investment at the time and I will always be grateful to him for leaving them to me as they are worth enough today to buy a modest home or live on VERY well for 2 years. (he also left me a 'valuable' stamp collection that did not nearly do as well unfortunately)}

Here goes:

-When the final nuclear war has been fought, and the earth has been destroyed, the last thing to die will be a cockroach. It will find the highest point it can, climb up, push itself up as tall it can, and then shout "Buy Gold!" and die.

That's right! Because the amount of money chasing the same goods is irrelevant to their price... unless the money is folding crinkly stuff!

Hey fonz, thanks man- praise from caesar. Ive always enjoyed reading your comments, its refreshing to see that there is at least one other person always out there that just cant believe what this gig has come to.

And even though there are some days where you think you've seen everything and that the markets cant get any more surreal (but then they do), this is still among the best jobs in the world, am I right? Theres nothing like being trusted in the casino with other people's money. I mean what a feeling, being in the middle of what is possibly one of the great experiments of the modern age and doing right by your investors when the rigged market throws you a bone, its not too bad. By the way, just to note, I work for a small fund, not a TBTF.

So to get to your point, I think its like this: everyone who saw the crash coming back in 2008 expected an outcome that involved the collapse of the dollar and/or treasuries. When the shit started hitting the fan though for a few days we in the finance world got a peek behind the curtain at the wizard, we all saw how absurd it all was. Call it Roueff's exorbitant privilege or whatever you will, but at the end of the day there was nothing propping up the hundreds of trillions in derivatives (which as we know way outstrip the total worldwide gov. bond market) except the idea that the US Dollar would survive due to America's reserve status and the idea that militarily at least, the US still has enough clout to enfore the USDs acceptability.

By the way fonz, ivI actually lived in Cape Town for the past few years and saw Zimbabwe collapse just next door to me and believe it or not, now that theyve dumped their currency that place is booming again! That is the real power of illusion... Btw I have even dabbled on the Harare exchange lol, but its not quite there yet.

Anyway, sorry for the OT, but it was clear from day 1 of the collapse of how it was going to go: either tanks in the streets to change the order of things, or putting all our trust in the Fed to not only get us out of this mess but also take control (in the form of central planning) of the worlds markets.

Its easy enough as zh and Nanex establish on a daily basis.

But Ill tell you one thing that I know for sure- we will see negative interest rates on cash deposits (even on grandmas checking acct) long before we ever see tanks in the streets...

Besides when you have that many tanks in the first place, its going to take a long time before you exhaust all options.

Its funny how the world puts its full faith and credit in the word of the people building up the biggest armies. Look at how even today nobody noticed most of Hitlers war budget was kept off the books by Schacht:

At the end of the day, I think the correct analogy for this time period is the failed Decembrist revolt of 1825 in Russia. What could have been one of the turning points of history actually became nothing more than a rather amusing footnote to history. Tsarism survived another 90 years but when it did fall, boy was it ugly...

Thats whats going on here I think fonz, Im fairly young and I gather you are as well, so there is I think a huge chance we will definitely see your other post proven right: "you dont't fight the fed" is going to go down as the worst advice ever, but not for a long time. At the moment, the Fed is fine tuning itself as central planner. Unfortunately in practical terms it means stay long the likes of XIV for now, as ugly ad that seems!

Anyway I dont want to violate length etiquette on my 1st day or id go on...

Mon, 01/28/2013 - 22:10 | 3193482 fonzannoon
fonzannoon's picture

I don't even know where to start. Freakin tremendous post man. Stick around, and make your thoughts known on here. People will learn from you.

It does all come down to the MIC. I wan't to disagree with you pretty badly because I would just like a damn reset now and just get it over with. But in the dark corner of my mind I do think this will go on longer than anyone can believe it will.

"Theres nothing like being trusted in the casino with other people's money. I mean what a feeling, being in the middle of what is possibly one of the great experiments of the modern age and doing right by your investors when the rigged market throws you a bone, its not too bad."

Your head and your heart seems to be in the right place. That is rare and awesome. I will tell you that people like Doc Engali and myself used to feel that way (not to speak for Doc, but I think I can). Now I practically live in fear of this whole thing.

I agree completely about negative rates. Negative interest rates are going to weed a lot of people out of this business. Eventually with NIRP all you will need is your SPY etf and call it a day.

I also have firmly shifted into believing that the next dump is going to be the big one. It may be a long time coming or it may be tomorrow. But it will make 2008 look like a picnic.

Thanks ZH, This site and the people on it are freakin amazing.

Thanks fonz, that was really nice of you to say and thanks all around for the warm welcome!

Ill tell you what, since so few people ever post any sort of 'practical' stuff or predictions, ill leave you with just a few of my ideas that have sealed my return last year which I believe still have some life in them:

-The best way to play Africa.

This one is very easy, having studied the market extensively, I can tell you there is only one company that qualifies as a sound investment AND gives you the exact exposure to Africa you want. Its called Bollore and its listed in Paris. I have been accumulating shares of this company the past few years the way others here accumulate gold. Check the charts, check the revenues, check the growth, its there...

Im sure you can do your own research but you wont find a better company, Vincent Bollore the French billionaire owns 91% of the float so you dont see much algo trading. The stock never really dips, it just stays flat until its next jump on earnings. The companys bread and butter is African Logistics, oil field services in Africa, vertically integrated fuel distribution and plantations. Im sure youll do your own reasearch so I dont need to go on but theres stocks for fishing and theres stocks for eating, and this is as good as Ive ever seen as a keeper.

-Also I think the Myanmar hot money rally still has a good year of life left in it.

This is an easy one because its often talked about but rarely followed through on. If you look into it though, there are only 3 vehicles to play Myanmar and all are happily listed in Singapore where theyre easy to access.

Id get long Yoma and Supergroup (again do your reasearch but i think youll agree) and play Interra in conjunction with brent price swings.

The above stocks were a huge part of my 'alpha' (haha- i know...) in 2012.

(a lot of others are coming to mind but ill save it for future posts)

Hubby is not dumb and you know Becks is getting the insider info to make the trades. I would say he knows that Warren has a shelf life (and by the looks of her arm, she has one too).

That said, I actually doubt she has to service him, but I think they definitely take baths together. There is too much upside for her. This is about money, not morals.
