Rioting Returns To Cairo: Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

Below is a live stream from Egypt which contrary to promises from the US department of state, appears to not be fixed after all. Contrary to some naive expectations, yesterday's 30-day curfew imposed by the president in various Northern cities in hopes of cooling tempers has not achieved its goal, and may soon need to move to the capital Cairo where the riots are back. So while we wait for Athens' Syntagma square to emerge from hibernation, here is a preview of how a very "fixed" Europe, where one will soon need scientific notation to express the levels of youth unemployment, will look like once the snow melts.

Apparently Cairo & Athens haven't perfected the idea & enforcement of "protest zones"... Either that ~ or there's a shortage of ZIP TIES in the Middle East...

Hey Tyler, no more posts on the "disastrous" french intervention in Mali?

Wouldn't it be ironic if large slabs of rock were used in ancient Egypt as "money" or the equivalent of today's Treasuries and the pyramids were just the equivalent of the "Bank" or today's Fed? The similarities are humorous.

Maybe the 3 pyramids at Giza were just a game of poker in progress.

AldousHuxley's picture

Gold will get stolen, pyramid of useless rocks generate tourism revenue for 2000+ years.

Also, power symbol is not the pyramids but the obelisks and the big bad empires use it as victory trophies.

Roman Empire: Tallest obelisk in Rome, and the largest standing ancient Egyptian obelisk in the world.

French Empire:

Two 3,300-year-old twin obelisks once marked the entrance to the Luxor Temple. Muhammad Ali Pasha, the W?li and self-proclaimed Khedive of Egypt, offered the two obelisks to France as a "gift" in 1829.

Bank robbery would have been tough under that scenario.

Compound interest could have been fun. But if it makes no sense to compound interest on rocks, then maybe it doesn't make sense to do it with paper either.

We must remember that scissors cut paper, and paper covers rock, and rock breaks scissors.

Allah Snackbar!

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, the wise as false and the rulers as useful.

-Seneca

I've personally come to realization that human beings, by virtue of their compressed synaptic perceptions and integration along with a fair degree of scientific know how,  are fucked.   If we were still bashing one in the head with rocks and sticks, we might have a chance, but pandora's box is wide open.   When religious tribalism meets bio, nuclear, and chemical warfare, it is just a matter of time...

Enjoy the show

Allah Allah Oxen Free!

Everybody out for another round.

My initial reaction gave a dig to perma-jihad Islamorons and of course they will not let a good crisis go to waste here, but it’s just a shame everybody over there gets screwed by the fraud and idiocy of current financial “policy”.

And it is as big a shame that most of the rest of the world will get a turn at this, too.

May have to wait for the boiled rope.

Of course go long the usual, guns and ammo.

Ya know, kinda makes you wonder why 50%+ youth unemployment across multiple southern European countries has NOT resulted in similar scenes to this one in Cairo.

They've had high youth unemployment for a long time now.  Super high for several years.  And still getting worse.  When does it start to result in some regime-changing street violence?  Seems to me they could have 100% youth unemployment and it would still be status-quo, just like now.

Honestly, I don't understand.  Why no big blow-up?  Makes it seem like maybe they don't care about having a job or something.  I'm open to comments here.

Stuntgirl's picture

As discussed by some commenters here, and as far as I can see with the people I know, there may be two factors affecting youth violence in southern Europe:

Youths stay longer in University and other higher education, or go ack to education upon becoming unemployed.

Youths leaving to become cheap labor in core countries.

I am concerned that the subsidies for education are rapidly diminishing, as this is starting to leave some working-class youths with too much free time. They used to fill it up then with their iCrap and clubbing, but that is rapidly becoming unaffordable too.

AldousHuxley's picture

young people in cairo know that they are poor, so they pay attention.

young people in europe don't know that they are poor, so they don't pay much attention until recently.

spanish and greek immigrants are all over europe.

That is NOT a Riot!  In the new "news speak of mistruths" that is a Party.  This is similar to the phrases "undocumented" to be "illegal", or "pre-owned" to be "used", or a personal favorite "unlicensed pharmisist" - "drug dealer".

This will continue until the falsely created society is overthrown or at least represents the majority of societies of natural origin in that region.

So likely it will never stop until the Bankers and Central Planners leave.

I love red on red events.  Bread Helmets, fix bayonets!  CHARGE!  For the Lulz.

I hope they start tearing into the pyramids and other relics, too.  That would showcase the idiocy of the muslims like no other way.  Well, like no other since they tore up those buddah statues.  Or made a "finger amputating machine".  Or raped women for being raped by their own cousins.

Remember now, they're just like us!  Didn't you see Disney's Alladin?
