Frankrupt Damage Control "France Is A Truly Solvent Country, France Is A Truly Credible Country"

Tyler Durden's picture

In a move farcically reminiscent of Inspector Clouseau, the French Finance Minister made an impromptu appearance on the BBC to confirm what we all should have known all along: that "France is a truly solvent country, France is a truly credible country." As the Washington Post notes, the oh-so-honest faux-pas that enfant terrible Monsieur Michel Sapin made yesterday - explaining how his nation is "totally bankrupt" - had French politicos scrambling today to recover their je ne sais pas. It would appear the crisis management approach taken is the repetitive Jedi mind-trick and of course we should believe Moscovici - even as France faces near-record unemployment, ratings downgrades, fiscal atrophication thanks to a plunge in competitiveness, and backlash among the elites at its increasingly socialist policies. "This is not the France you are looking for," and sure enough, now we believe them.

We are sure it went a little like this...

Or perhaps they used this...

As Sapin awaits this...

yeah, sure

totally lacking perspective. From the cited Washington Post article:

"Mr. Sapin made his bankruptcy remarks during a Jan. 27 radio address, during which he spoke of the need for an austerity plan.

“It is a totally bankrupt state,” Mr. Sapin said then, according to a report in The Independent. “That is why we had to put a deficit reduction plan in place, and nothing should make us turn away from that objective."

Again, this is the Labour/"Jobs" minister speaking. His ministry usually spends a lot to try to "create jobs", "preserve jobs", etc. It's the ministry that is usually given to the one guy in the cabinet that represents the LEFT. The most socialist one - in a cabinet that is supposedly socialist.

Now just for a moment forget that he used a "Gallic Hyperbole", i.e. "we are bankrupt! = we have to economize" and note that it's a French Socialist Minister for Jobs that endorses deficit reduction and austerity plans (additionally to what France agreed anyway). That should you give some thought...

Leaked emails have allegedly proved that the White House gave the green light to a chemical weapons attack in Syria that could be blamed on Assad's regime and in turn, spur international military action in the devastated country.

A report released on Monday contains an email exchange between two senior officials at British-based contractor Britam Defence where a scheme 'approved by Washington' is outlined explaining that Qatar would fund rebel forces in Syria to use chemical weapons.

"Exactly. Which is why most people I know think they can ignore the math and everything will be okay. They fight the very idea that there is a real decline in quality of life, that it is permanent, and that it will continue to deteriorate. As Michele added above: "Apres moi, le deluge." Everyone else will get screwed but not me, I got mine.

It's a tsunami. Previous paradigms no longer apply.

Teevee, junkfood-addled Amerika could not withstand a currency collapse. The Black Plague made human capital valuable again - in modern application we have tens of millions on the gov't teat with no recovery.

All those 99-weekers waiting for jobs. What jobs? Doing what? The service economy is a fiat lie and our infrastructure is based on a constant flow of cheap oil.

Mortgage? WTF for? Prices are artificially high because of 1) shadow inventory 2) who can say they will be employed in their profession to make payments for 30 years anymore - no man is an island.

Stay nimble. Stay quick. This is no time for white picket fences. Going back to the sad, miserable, drugged-up state of our Nation it ain't a stretch to imagine that the Mandarin speakers are planning to make use of their raw (war) materials and spouse-less young men for "real estate acquisition". Hasn't anyone read a history book around here? The Chi-Coms have openly spoken of how they deserve North America. This kind of scenario isn't discussed because it is the worst-case scenario outside of nuc-bio-chem warfare, and then subsequent invasion.

"Oh, but China needs us and we need them." Bullshit. Everyone is buying time. The Chinese aren't stupid and they know they aren't getting their money back. Some finance guy over there said US bonds are not safe medium and long. In other words "We are trying to buy as much time as possible to acquire tangible assets that matter!"

All the survivalists from the 70's were wrong because they didn't understand the "Nixon" trick/effect of taking us off the gold standard and taking paper money to its extreme utility. It would have been better to face this shitstorm back then. Back when Americans were still eating meals that had real nutrition, no obesity epidemic, actual human interaction, strong infrastructure with less bureaucracy. Today it's all bloated beyond recognition.

When the Fed finally makes a move that has a visible and real effect on Amerika even rationing of supplies won't keep the interurban areas content. We are at the brink of a f.u.n.d.a.m.e.n.t.a.l. shift. Be far away from the millions that require a weekly check for their very survival. Do you think the owners of the Fed care if millions starve"?

Had some friends go to Paris for a 3 days visit on a 2 week European vacation.  They both agreed they'd never go back again.

Policies are extremely socialist and misandry runs rampant.  Almost as bad as Sweden and Norway.

I'm disappointed that it was Greece that's in a tough situation.  France deserves it more.  A thankless lot.

Nothing will happen in the general public level though, see:

That Goldman Sachs IPO link by the SEC is still available

By definition when someone tells you an institution or organization is credible; it;s not. That's really poor propaganda.

Went to Paris in 97 just after Lady Diana died.  Nice city, fantastic food, wonderful art and culture.  Went to a bar and could actually smoked a real Cuban cigar.  Bar tender and I chit chatted about the motorcycle he'd been saving his whole life for; a Harley Davidson Fatboy.  He pulled out a magazine and showed me the one he wanted and said "have you ever seen one of these?".  I told him yes, about every 3rd traffic light in Florida has 5 or 6 lined up and ready to annoy any quiet-loving, peace-loving person who dares be within a mile or two.  I told him my favorite ones were the ones you find a contrail of parts to up and down a street after some retiree with cataract glasses cuts them off!

One thing I noticed about Florida is that there are a lot of very large cars moving very slowly with no drivers in them.
