Silver Eagle Sales Surge To All-Time Record In January
A massive 7.4 million Silver Eagles were purchased from the U.S. Mint in January, considerably higher than the previous record from early 2011. After halting Silver coin production/sales for over a week, the Mint re-opened yesterday and demand once again surged. Having almost doubled from the first week in January, there remains two more days before the book is closed on January's sales. At 140,000 ounces, the Mint has also sold the most ounces of gold in January in almost three years, suggesting the rising 'currency wars' are stoking people's ongoing rotation from paper-to-physical assets as their 'wealth' slowing loses its value.

The cheapest place I found in Canada is ScotiaMocatta. Vig's not to bad. I think the pricing structure changed since I purchased.
What's the cheapest you guys have experience with?

Sure have 500 oz on hand but for serious amounts Sprott's Physical Silver Trust is the cheapest entry and carry that I've found esp now Prem over NAV is so low.....you also seem to get fat tail benefit on spikes in prices of the underlying....try n buy physical at 1-2.5% over spot.....

Don't buy 'collector' coins, buy the bullion, and as has been said, you shouldn't need to pay more than $3 over spot. If you go to some of the miners' (eg First Majestic) websites you can order their bullion and pay even closer to spot.
NO problema just print some mo fiat ben
7,x million: 140k
That's the 50:1 ratio holding on. LOL!
Just picked up 9,999 2013 silver eagles for $349,406.22 plus $10 for shipping from APMEX bank wire.
Tomorrow I think I'll order 20 monster boxes what the fuck corner the supply why not?
Just picked up 5 generics for 176.25-no shipping cash and carry. I'm doin' all I can.
Why not 10,000? They will need to open a monster box to remove one coin, or send you 499 coins loose.
Private mints are coming out with some sick productions! Check out silverbulletshield and silverbulletbullion. :0
Those suck the art is shit. The stupid top hat. It doesn't even fit on the cro magnon skull it's balancing on it. Whoever did that art absolutely sucks. And what are those bullets or vibrators on the back of that amature piece of crap?
Notice on the site::
NOTICE: Due to extreme popularity of these unique, privately minted medallions, increased delays in wholesale silver supply and manufacturing times, orders have been taking much longer than normal to process.
All Trivium orders are now minted and shipped. If you ordered a Trivium and have yet to receive it, please contact our team to complete your payment.
We are currently offering an estimated ship date of 10 to 14 days after payment is received and cleared.

This would be a market top warning. Not a time to buy, Right?
Look at the chart again, every spike down is a good time to buy & spike up is just b4 a down turn.
Last buy NUGT
I better put a tight stop :)
I'm a small fish.
I want to buy a giant box of Maple Leafs from Sprott but I'm waiting for it to go back down to $28.?? OZ.
Maybe I should just pull the trigger & buy it tomorrow. ? . ?
Why go all or nothing - you could split the order. It's always a good way to store wealth, but you'll feel better if either way
- it goes down and you can get your second half of the position at an even better price, or
- it goes up significantly from here, and at least you have half of your position, rather than nothing.
Just a thought.
PM's have been rangebound for some time now. A giant box of Maples sounds pretty good to me. I was buy at $29. Oops. Spread is too wide for my blood though. Might as well buy numismatics at that premium.
Sucker food for people who like to pay a lot over spot. Get a couple, maybe, but be a cheapskate and buy 1 kilo blocks for about a grand if you can't afford a 100 toz bar.
Bought some GDXJ last week. So oversold.
Might use the dividend to buy more eagles.
Don't get caught up in the frenzy and don't try to predict future prices. Set an amount you can afford each week and buy that amount. Find the best source locally or online + shipping - but realize that if you buy from a shipper it will be tracked. Keep your eye on garage sales - you can still find sterling being sold by idiots who know nothing. if you have the money to buy quantity then by 'junk' silver coins. Sit tight. Think years, not months. Forget 'spot' - it is totally manipulated. Just keep converting a portion of your wealth regularly and have a good nights sleep every night. Far less than 1% of the people in the US have even begun to wake up regardless of mint sales. Even when they do think about whether or not you really want to convert your PM to paper - regardless of how high the paper price is.
1999 here on phyzz.
Excellent advice, my sentiments exactly. Buy it on a regular basis, treat it as long term savings (think multi-generational, heirloom wealth) lock it away (NOT AT A BANK) and forget about it.
If the demand is so high why isn't the PRICE? Where's that high of $50 of April 2011? Why isn't the price commensurate to all the central banks' money printing? Oh why why why???
Everyone knows the answer, manipulation, they'll say. Fundamentals will lprevail, they say.
If the money supply has increased approximately 7% per annum up until 2008 where it started going hyperbolic, why did the price of silver from the 1980 high of $50 plummet to $3 at its low? Why did the price ever drop to begin with? Guess money printing has little effect on the price. Fortunately it won't go to zero, whew! Guess an 80-90% loss ain't bad!

I'm waiting for the next crash and gold drops under $1000 and silver under $20 as the hedgies and such cover shorts, et cetera, like 2008.
Better yet, when the real crash happens, when the sovereigns go tit'sup (I'm thinking Cyprus/France/Italy…) and all the bond guys and such are being asked to BOHICA, especially other sovereigns who are owed the debt, I'm holding out that they're going to ask for their payment in gold/silver from the respective CB's. Then watch the fur fly! The price will fall in the flush as everyone sells off for capital.
Once that happens, where will the schlubs go to invest? Everybody will pile into PM.
Discuss? I'm open to all, as I can't see the future.

newsflash: coin sales ALWAYS jump in january (just look at the chart) because of dealers buying them all up to have them slabbed to suckers as "early releases".

PVC Gun Burial Tube. Holds 3 long rifles Ak47, SKS, AR15 plus ammo and gold & silver. Check it out here.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/160965515323?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
Do not store coins inside PVC tubes, this will damage them.
Specially coins containing copper, like the American Gold Eagles (one twelfth of their metal is copper).
Read more about it here:
What is PVC Damage on Coins?
after reading this, i want to trade all my gold eagles in for buffaloes...
by the number of times that you've posted this same link one's gotta wonder if youre the one sellin it?
He probably bought from that seller; that isn't a problem.
However, I feel obliged to mention something. Do you see that portion of the link after the ?, including it?
?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
That part is used by eBay to track who accessed the link and is reposting it. You can post it like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/160965515323
Remove everything after the ? (including it), and the link still works.
Not to mention that somewhere in eBay, they know who Kingkongballs827 is.
Early releases guarantees the coins did not circulate much prior to slabbing, something valuable for numismatists and collectors.
For bullion, no, buy them as cheap as possible. Even if they are off quality, with scratches and such, they still are silver, though they will get a lower price when you try to sell them in a coin shop.
Sort of, but not really:

Random thought, does silver soak up radiation easily?
Hopefully, I'll have time to check out coin shop this week.... ugh!!! Can't wait to get my hands on a few clinkly shiny coins...
I like the Canadian Maple Leafs too.
Who would still be in paper at this point other than the riggers of the markets. People that deal paper could be in big personal trouble if they don't soon stop peddling it and it collapses.
Don't have to buy a Monster Box to get Eagles cheap. Nor do you have to wait.

A listed dealers has low premiums for any quantity, no minimum, and a $1.00 discount code is provided to take it down even further.
7.4 million ounces? Oh the horrors! That's 233 million dollars per month! That's .2 percent of the 85 billion dollars per month that the chair-satan is printing. IT'S NOT EVEN THE INTEREST ON THE MONEY AT .5 PERCENT!!!!

I know not why all the hard-ons occur re: ASE ?? The US Mint gets the blanks from Sunshine / Coeur d'Alene. Idaho ... My left-handed twisted-sister state.
Fuck ... Just buy some Made-In-America / nice / old Sunshine Mining rounds from back-when Wallace Idaho was a real mining town with lots of whore-houses. Or buy the new Sunshine Mint Security Silver Rounds ... They are real-nice and sell at non-premium rates. No counter-fits from Idaho, USA. GodDamn Right ! Or buy a shit-load of Englehard 1987 Prospectors if you can find them. Buy American Silver ... Send in the PM Busty USA Cheerleaders. Rah ... Fucking Rah .
What will excite me more than the higher sales of silver eagles, is evidence that people are starting to use them for transaction purposes. Only in this way can silver re-enter the psyche of the people and eventually be welcomed back as the true money of a free market.
The only problem there is that being pure silver, silver Eagles (and Maple Leafs, and Philharmonics, and Libertads) are too soft for much use as an actual transactional medium of exchange. That is why old silver coins were usually alloyed with 10% (or more) of copper, to make them harder and more durable in circulation. Even then, any silver-copper alloy is and was still too soft, with coins 20 or more years old being MUCH more worn than any coins seen in circulation today --- they should have used nickel instead of copper, yet oddly no nation, even in the 20th century, ever did, purely I am guessing due to hidebound tradition.
Hmm. Kyle Bass is about two steps ahead of everyone else I'd say.
More likely because nickel is a scarcer metal than copper.

Nobody has mentioned that the mint halted adding to the Dec '12 sales figures only to add a couple million was it(?) on first day of Jan reporting. They have 'pushed' a few million of Dec. sales from the previous year into the next year for a couple of years now.
You should always have about a 5 to 1 ratio of Pb to Ag or Au on hand and available for immeadiate delivery.
I would, but that boating accident wiped me out.
Lucked out with the LCS. Been in biz since hunt bros; no shortages ever, prices better then JM.
Must admit...good call last summer traded ye flat for 20 Maple Leaf Palladiums. 670$ each. Plus, only LCS I know of that sells Rhodium (solid, from that UK src. 2013-14 PGMs=ah, good stuff,
50,000 oz available of Rho fer investors p/y.
Pt, meh, Pd yeah, "R", vehicles manufactured this year
rhodium stackers, ugh....unite?
(Haha)
diamonds are DeBeers best friend
Every year in January there is a shortage of eagles, which is then resolved later in the year with premiums coming back down to earth. I may sell a little at $3-4 per coin over spot just to buy it back later in the year cheaper. Until TS really HTF, IMHO silver stays within the range its trading.
where is the money going?
Currency wars >>>>the Euro spikes. Yikes! Say the exporters, Bravo say the CB financialists, their bonds are saved.
Dichotomoy. All those who short the Euro are now hoping that Draghi will be obliged to DO something...
Gold rises meekly and silver at 31> But we know that the CBs hate the rush from fiat to PMs like a nun hates having to go naked to take a bath. You never know who could be lurking in the tub!
And little old me bought all of twenty of them:-)
And once again most everyone (most PM bugs) are missing the underlying message.
We have record sales in firearms and ammunition for ARs, what happened to price? Ammo went up over 300% in a matter of days.
Why isn't the same thing happening for PMs. That is the message you guys are missing. Truth is truth even if it hurts. Of course the biggest joke is those that buy directly from the US Mint at their marked up prices. And obviously, as I disagree with TD's thread talking about the US Mint delaying new minting, I said it was no big deal. I even pointed out that the US Mint was still taking orders for future coins they didn't have the silver for. Didn't seem like a shortage to me.
Lots of hogwash (yes, that even includes what I say). But I call it like I see it. The more of you that disagree, the happier I am.
You have valid points there CessPool. I like your comments and I think about them. From my un-edumacated standpoint .... I bow to your awesome knowledge. This is only my 2nd post. Eat me up ZH.
I would venture to say that the "firearms and ammo" crowd are .... let's just say .... more reactionary than the stacker crowd. Stackers are steady ... The fearful-zombies-are-gonna-get-me firearms crowd is "different" and maybe-not-so-steady. I don't carry but I have my ways to disable.
Fuck .... More power to the Guns & Roses & Ammo sellers .... Smoke'em if you got'em. We just got a new start-up ATK facility near where I live that gave lots of local folks good jobs. Thank You HomeLand Security < I spit on your faces > .
We lost our business manager when she decided to go help make weaponry and etcerera. That's not my deal as a small-business person. We do actual-useful stuff for the last 30 years .... Heating real-people's homes with high-efficiency radiant floor systems.
CessPool says " Truth is truth even if it hurts." Cess-Buddy the truth is that most all of the American Dick Weed Peeps are comatose (including me after I chewed a-bunch of med-grade bud and had good Canadian whiskey and started typing) .... But I can handle "The Truth" and I just ordered another 100 ounces of Silver.
CessPool asks .... "Why isn't the same thing happening for PMs? "
Patience GrassHopper ............. Be Steady.
