Guest Post: Congratulations Charlottesville, Virginia! The First City To Pass Anti-Drone Legislation

Tyler Durden's picture

Via Michael Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

This simple piece of legislation proves that you can make a difference at the local level.  We need a lot more of this type of thing all over these United States.  As I have said many times, it’s not that I am against drones in all capacities; however, we must be vigilant about how these things are used and must have serious safeguards in place to protect civil liberties.  Kudos to the Rutherford Institute for leading the charge here.

From US News:

Charlottesville, Va., has become the first city in the United States to formally pass an anti-drone resolution.

The resolution passed by a 3-2 vote and was brought to the city council by activist David Swanson and the Rutherford Institute, a civil liberties group based in the city. The measure also endorses a proposed two-year moratorium on drones in Virginia.

Councilmember Dede Smith, who voted in favor of the bill, says that drones are “pretty clearly a threat to our constitutional right to privacy.”

“If we don’t get out ahead of it to establish some guidelines for how drones are used, they will be used in a very invasive way and we’ll be left to try and pick up the pieces,” she says.

“With a lot of these resolutions, although they don’t have a lot of teeth to them, they can inspire other governments to pass similar measures,” she says. “You can get a critical mass and then it does have influence. One doesn’t do much, but a thousand of them might. We want this on [federal and state lawmakers'] radars.”

Ha! There is no constititutional right to privacy liekt that councilwoman said. Find it in the constitution. A protectioin writtten on a faded piace of paper won't mean a fucking thing anywasy. Red China had all sorts of constitutional protecitions for its 'citizens' and look what happened there. Maybe a few commentores here are relativiely free - douvtful - but most are slaves to mental habits or there actual bosses.

Speaking of dangerous unmanned flying objects (DUFOS)

Can someone pass a law that forbids Asteroid 2012 da14 from hitting us on February 15th?

OR! Pass a law that forbids Comet ISON (which will be 18 times larger than full moon)

from making all fiat currencies obsolete with it's 11,800 year orbit antics?

And, yes.

I made the videos.

PS. FUCK DRONES <---- old Jedi saying

Let me guess... This law prohibits private citizens from having drones but gives Uncle Scam a wink and a nod. Pathetic...

People keep looking for shreds of hope to help them cope with the dystopian hell they are experiencing.

This law only works when you back it up with a few missile batteries and a radar system. The sentiment is appreciated though. Any noise making is good at this point.

Besides they forgot to add orbiting spy satellites.

I like to console myself equally with this bleak view: that you have a number of rights, some of which are now taken away and replaced with those that won't avail you of anything.

Next step then would be making drones a nuisance species covered by game regulations.  Continuous open season, unlimited bag limit.

Next, next step: New drones will be painted with spots.  Then EPA and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will promptly ban the hunting of the endangered spotted drone. Drone itself will actually enforce that law and fire back.

By act of Congress, on a vote of 98-2 in the senate, Charlottesville, VA has become the new home to the controversial National Toxic Waste Dump.  Though originally planned for Yucca Mountain, it was a complete surprise when Harry Reid introduced this legislation roughly a year ago.

Breaking news.....Charlottesville legislative building has just been leveled

by a missile attack. Witnesses said the missiles just seem to come out of the nowhere.

No further details available at this time.

Tue, 02/05/2013 - 22:08 | 3218508 ersatzteil
ersatzteil's picture

Just as in TWA Flight 800, the witnesses are drunk, and don't know what they saw. The most likely cause was a gas leak in the building. "Explosive residue" found in the building was due to having hosted troops from Iraq five years prior and in no way supports the likelihood that any kind of missile was responsible for the building's destruction.

Fuck it let's just make our own damn drones it's not that hard.  Cool thing is technology is so advanced you don't have to be a whiz to do it.  It's getting to be like building a kit go kart you just bolt the shit together and add your own accessories.........rocket launcher, bomb dropper, handgun etc. LMAO.

In fact I can't believe it's taken this long to come up with these stupid things I was trying to build a bomb door with a remote opener that would drop an m80 on my asshole neighbors back in the mid 80's when I was in middle school.  Of course I never did but it's not that hard.  Accuracy would be a problem esp with homebuilt stuff so just drop 20 bombs at a time like the US gov't does you're bound to hit something.

Yep...........maybe we should spread this idea over the net and see how long it takes before one of Rothschilds mansions are swarming with little bugs with a deadly stinger.

These things can work both ways there's plenty of assholes to target and there is no such thing as physical barriers in air space. Just make sure it can't be traced back to you.

Resolutions are fine, and I'm glad they did this.

Next step is to pass legislation that allows any law abiding citizen to own whatever the Marines and Special Forces are deployed with.

Why not?  If you trust your citizens with a vote and a car why not with the weapons your military carries?

Unless, of course, you are afraid they will have a route to shrugging off the kleptoligarchy.

One single city in the U.S., by one single vote, has outlawed the use of Drones.  Pretty pathetic response to the injustice.

"What does it matter???" Hillary Rodham Clinton, describing Benghazi murders.

Maybe they all suffer from dark patches on their brains. Scans should be pre-employment requirement for politicians, along with valid BC.

Rutherford Institute.... does great work and are very busy right now and they take donations, are on my list. they also defend and sue on behalf of vets and others who are being swatted by gun haters for having legal guns, then held without cause with a psych diagnosis, Soviet-style.

Landmark Legal Foundation is another good one.

Both these guys are in the trenches every day.

I'll probably get a visit (or disappear) for telling you all this, but the BATF is busy conducting surprise visits on residents of my county to inventory and inquire as to what sort of arms they have. Kinda nuts.  Extra-rural here, and the people they're targeting are not dodgy characters (except for that one guy).  Business owners/retirees whose reputation and character were never called into question previously.  I overheard a tip-off last night where Man A told Man B he was next on the list.  I know Man B.  A pillar of society, except he's vocal about the fact that he is fully prepared for "anything that'll happen."  I won't elaborate, but you can probably pick up what I'm laying down.

Apparently "See something, Say something" is a success.

"The anti-drone resolution passed in a 3 to 2 vote, with councilors Kathy Galvin and Kristin Szakos voting against it.  The resolution supports a two-year ban on drone use and prohibits city entities from purchasing them.

Szakos said she felt the vote was premature and that drones could be used in positive ways."

I've met Szakos. She packs heavy caliber stupid.

As far as I know, Saudi Arabia doesn't practice such trivial things as citizen privacy and doesn't abide by the US Constitution. They have the latter in common with Obama.
