Iran Releases Footage From Hacked US Drone

Tyler Durden's picture

Back in December 2011 the US government first lied, then grudgingly had to admit that Iran had seized one of its RQ-170 Sentinel drones, which crash-landed in the middle of the country, after Iran released a video showing its scientists attempting to reverse engineer the contents of the drone. Naturally, the US politely asked for its drone back, and just as naturally, Iran politely refused to comply. So what was Iran doing in the intervening 14 months? Hacking the drone of course, which it finally succeeded last night when it released a short clip of what it had supposedly extracted from the remains of the Sentinel. The full clip is below, and while it does not provide any incremental informational benefits to Iran, or any further humiliation to whoever created the US drone fleet without a self-destruct option, it certainly will boost Iranian morale on the ground for hacking the Great Satan.

More from Telegraph:

The video aired late on Wednesday on Iranian TV shows an aerial view of an airport and a city, said to be a US drone base and Kandahar, Afghanistan. The TV also showed images purported to be the Sentinel landing at a base in eastern Iran but it was unclear if that footage meant to depict the moment of the drone's seizure.

In addition, the TV also showed images of an Iranian helicopter transporting the drone, as well as its disassembled parts being carried on a trailer.

In another part of the video, the chief of the Revolutionary Guard's airspace division, Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said that only after capturing the drone, Iran realised it "belongs to the CIA."

"We were able to definitively access the data of the drone, once we brought it down," said Gen Hajizadeh.

He described the Sentinel's capture as a huge scoop for Iran, saying that at the time, Tehran did not rule out a possible punitive US air strike over the drone.

We for one can't wait the algo buying explosion on expectations of the global GDP boost that would result from a US attack to finally reclaim its property and avoid such additional embarrassment in the future.

Get real on toy technology projecting America`s might.

Drones is pure amateur porn kind stuff sold to the DoF as if it were the real thing. Anyone could make or steer them, kind of self-defying technology . Or just take command
of your god given airspace, launch your own or better make yours take them down. Not joking, it is you or them, and the
beauty is, this works your way, declare your region off and take `em down. Engage as long as they employ play things too..

The US executed murderers for murdering in heinous fashion when 16.  So what?  Savages called "youths" frequently mob up and attack, rob, rape, and kill humans...why shouldn't they be executed before they might reproduce?

SAT 800 says "The sooner they go down the better". I am interested in whether you will be taking part in the take down? Also, how many should we kill in order to bring them into line with US foreign policy? 100K?  Or like Iraq, and untold number but easily north of 100K.  Playing god now seems to be an unquestioned right of a group of American exceptionalists.  My only desire is that all those calling for war and mass killing should get out there and lead the charge, armchair warrior is way too common of an American trait at this point.

No their reaction is very moderate and correct. and certainly not a cause of war. The problem with Iran is it's dedication to; including financing Taliban activities in countries like Pakistan, (the pakistan military found the money and code books and radios in the Taliban caves when they cleaned out one of their strongholds), and various other atrocious murdering swine, (so considered by the citizens of the valley in Pakistan), such as those that murdered the consul in Libya. Iran is the head of the terrorist snake; if you wanted to make a big dent; possibly a game changing dent in the "war on terrorism"; forcing a military capitulation in Iran; and then leaving; would be a lot more effective than spending hundreds of millions of dollars playing silly buggers in Afganistan; for instance. I don't believe the American government is going to do anything that makes sense or actually has a useful result; but I'm a little tired of the mass of people who think Iran is un-invadable; that's just ridiculous. Right now, our military is just engaged in wasting money; literally for nothing; except to increase their own bureacracy and create more officer slots; and it's very unfortunate. Wasting money doing something useful in terms of real-politic would be preferable.

It's true. Iran was actually providing assistance and support to US forces during the initial invasion of Afghanistan.

That came to an end when Chimpy W. Bush tarred them with his Axis of Eval® brush in his infamous 2003 speech.

Not exactly. Iran ran a pretty aggressive Sunni annihilation campaign in Iraq and also funneled some large quantities of IED material, know-how, and sniper rifles that were used against the US forces there. They also gave shelter to Muqtata al-Sadr for some time in Iran and provided lots of arms to Shia militias that resulted in ethnic cleansing (expulsion) of hundreds of thousands of Sunni Iraqis who landed in Jordan, Syria, etc.

Regardless of what you think of US foreign policy, the Iranian government is evil.

Thu, 02/07/2013 - 23:41 | 3225055 TheFourthStooge-ing
TheFourthStooge-ing's picture

.

Not exactly.

Ummm, yes, exactly. If you advance to the next level of Reading for Comprehension you'll discover a fascinating phenomenon called chronological order. It's based on two somewhat heavy philosophical concepts. First, events happen at particular times. Second, time (as we perceive it) moves from the past to the future.

You see, both the initial invasion of Afghanistan and Chimpy's 2003 speech happened before the alleged events to which you refer. Due to chronological order, events which happened after the initial invasion of Afghanistan and Chimpy's 2003 speech cannot reach back into the past and change those two events.

Also, you may be interested to know that the logical fallacy you've employed is called a red herring. Just tryin' to help.

Iran ran a pretty aggressive Sunni annihilation campaign in Iraq

Made me laugh. The United States ran the Sunni annihilation campaign (as well as the Shia annihilation campaign) by playing both sides against each other. Was Iran involved in anti-Sunni shenanigans in Iraq? It's certainly possible. If they were, their efforts were a spit in the ocean compared to the results obtained by the Good Guys®.

and also funneled some large quantities of IED material, know-how, and sniper rifles that were used against the US forces there.

That's the story as propagated by Vichy DC officialdom to the repeaters in mainstream media. If you enjoy being spoon fed like that, then you must be quite happy with the recovering economy, the decreasing unemployment, and the rebound of the housing market.

Whatever you do, don't read the following article about the actual origins of those IEDs in Iraq:

http://www.antiwar.com/porter/?articleid=11816

Regardless of what you think of US foreign policy, the Iranian government is evil.

When it comes to evil, the Iranian government is strictly little league compared to the abomination on the Potomac.

I used to think like that. I used to think America was great, good and had a noble purpose.  I have since changed my mind and have decided that its very complicated.  There are good people in America that want to do good things and they sometimes do bad things to accomplish those good things.  There are good people that just do good.  There are bad people that some times make mistakes and do good things.  Then there are the bad people that just do bad things all the time.

Ive decided Im not going to try to figure out who is who and what their motives are becuase it really doesnt matter at this point.

Bombing another country is no longer an act of war? (doesn't matter if its a drone or a jet dropping the bombs...)

Obomba finally had to release the legal "rationale" behind America's centerpiece war crime, the drone program. Ha ha their legal priests couldn't find any way to make America the only country that's allowed to do global pre-crime murder. So their legal  "justification" left the door wide open for China or Russia or Iran to drone bomb the USA. Coming to a town near you...and America will have no legal basis to do anythig about it. Evidently these drones can self land.  All they need is GPS coordinates and elevation.  Supposedly the way the Iranians got a hold of it was to fool the GPS in the drone.  The drone thought it was landing at home base.

Cops had no problem with that but the Democrats did...so today you don't really have any effective 2nd Amendment firearms available, LEGALLY that is, the Gangs of the USA have all that stuff and more, and the BIGGEST GANG OF ALL, .gov has the worst of the worst.

Powerful computers are cheap. Strong encryption is cheap. This device is used by definition in enemy territory. Why isn't every datum on this PoS instantly encrypted? Why does it store any data at all? Why does't it not have an automatic self destruct facility which occurs if it comes down without a positive disabling action. Who designed this?

"Why does't it not have an automatic self destruct facility which occurs if it comes down without a positive disabling action."

Maybe it does. They tricked it into thinking it had safely landed back at its own airbase.

Lockheed Martin. And when you have questions like this, here is how you can find answers for yourself:

Any talk of easy victory in Iran is lunacy. Iran has had a decade to watch the US destroy its neighbor, Iraq, and it has prepared accordingly. Although its conventional forces would be quickly defeated by the US, it is likely that an insurgency would be well-armed, led, and motivated. The insurgents would be far more numerous than their Iraqi counterparts, and would have the advantage of mountainous terrain in much of the country. Occupying Iran would be a quagmire that would make Iraq and Afghanistan look like picnics. Of course, stupid wars have become an American specialty, so an attack on Iran is not unlikely.

The only reason to occupy anything is to keep spending money; the military's hobby. The regime can be changed; huge amounts of Iranians are fed up; go in; do it; get out. fuck insurgents; they can insurgent themselves.

Yes; the militarily significant forces would be defeated; which means casulties so high; a settlement would be signed. End of mission. The occupation of Iraq is theatre to keep up the military spending budget; which is very wrong. When you're proven wrong; I'll be back to laugh at you. Why can't you get the idea of occupying separate from the idea of surrendering? don't you speak English.

On military history, the cold war approach of the Swiss is
the most interesting : They figured out they had no chance on countering a conventional force such as they were threatened with when asked to surrender all enemy accounts. Enemies , whether they were for or against the defeated nations . German social democrats had their accounts frozen and ultimately seized among other Jews who had taken refuge
in Great Britain no matter what as if they were Nazi who made it off to Argentina. Talked to both kind when they were still alive. Back to the cold war : The Swiss figured out they would quickly be overran by combined European/American
or Russian/European forces but even all of them together
could not muster the soldier per square mile ratio for
occupation !!! So they had well hidden air defenses
inside the mountainous country and a militia they could
muster everywhere anytime, always on the ready even if overran by enemy forces. Our Aryan Iranian brothers being clever and independent for most of history, what point of
attacking them without a chance of ever winning ?

Stupid question though I have to admit if war in itself and resources are all that killing is about . Germany had the first
30 year war that is known as the 90 year war in Holland...
both nations never really recovered to this day , nor do
the tribes of Persia seem to have overcome their beheading
some nasty tribe keeps celebrating ?

Occupy Iran ?

"Iran invaded Iraq"

Who invaded who?

http://www.history.com/topics/iran-iraq-war

"When Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq, quite deliberately started the war, he miscalculated on two counts: first, in attacking a country greatly disorganized by revolution but also greatly energized by it-and whose regime could be consolidated only by a long "patriotic" war, as with all revolutionary regimes; and second, at the level of theater strategy, in launching a surprise invasion against a very large country whose strategic depth he was not even trying to penetrate."

No, I am commenting on the current idiot opinion on internet blogs, that military dominance in conventional warfare, including air superiority doesn't count; for some un-specified reason. I don't give a shit about Israel. Iran is the big pimple in the center of the "Muslim Extremist" problem; they fund operations everywhere; including in Iraq and Pakistan; evidence exists. When Bush said he was going to attack Iraq I thought maybe he just got confused because they both start with an I; but the Muslim wingnuts won't sit down and shut up until the head is cut off the snake.
