US To Use Drones In Chris Dorner Manhunt

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: this just in - Authorities offer $1 million reward for information leading to arrest of ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner

We were hoping to evade coverage of the latest mass distraction du jour, that of the former LAPD officer Chris Dorner who recently went rogue following a three man murder spree and who has vowed to kill again as per his 6,000 word manifesto, but the US government had made it impossible following confirmation
that the search for Dorner is now the first official drone-hunt in US history.

The Express reports:

Yesterday, as a task force of 125 officers, some riding Snowcats in the rugged terrain, continued their search, it was revealed that Dorner has become the first human target for remotely-controlled airborne drones on US soil.

A senior police source said: “The thermal imaging cameras the drones use may be our only hope of finding him. On the ground, it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.”

Asked directly if drones have already been deployed, Riverside Police Chief Sergio Diaz, who is jointly leading the task force, said: “We are using all the tools at our disposal.”

The use of drones was later confirmed by Customs and Border Patrol spokesman Ralph DeSio, who revealed agents have been prepared for Dorner to make a dash for the Mexican border since his rampage began.

He said: “This agency has been at the forefront of domestic use of drones by law enforcement. That’s all I can say at the moment.”

And once Dorner is found by remote-control, it will be again up to drones to secure his "elimination." If for no other reason than to perform a ground test of just how the recently enacted drone-facilitated extermination of US citizens sits with various instances of the US judicial system.

Never know. A drone could "mistakenly" take out the Chinese Embassy in LA....it's happened before when Clinton apologized saying, "my map was old" when he took out the Chinese in the nation formerly known as Yugo...something or other.

O.J. was saved by the incompetence of the LAPD.

He was obviously guilty, but I've would have voted to acquit him if I was on the jury. The LAPD planted evidence to make sure they got their conviction. That kind of police corruption is a much greater danger to society than a single thug like O.J.

Yeah, whatever the more deeply buried levels of "truth" might be, IT SUCKS that we are forced to pay attention to social insanity situations, since they get in our face so much! Only my macabre sense of humour provides some relief for what appears to be the "first official drone-hunt" is for a police officer who is alleged to have killed others. One can expect lots more of those layers of social insanities to stack up on top of each other, as the triumphantly runaway systems of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, drive themselves through psychotic breakdowns.

I agree that I WISH we could evade or otherwise ignore that process more, but it FORCES us to pay attention!

But remember when Harrison Ford got framed for killing his wife, then got away, and the a big manhunt got underway with the press behind it, villainizing him?   In movie logic we might ought to be rooting for this guy at this point, because we the audience have now seen the LAPD in two different incidents hose down trucks that looked like their fugitives' truck, shooting innocent people that did not look like the suspect at all.   In a movie, that would tip you off that the LAPD are probably the bad guys in the same meausre that, say, those guys chasing Rambo were acting amorally in such a way as to deserve consequences they might suffer.    No comment on what the musical score was on the two LAPD incidents of opening fire on innocent people who looked nothing like Emmanuel Goldstein and merely possessed vehicles that looked like his, a Big Mistake evidently.

The Heart, thanks for that link about the rise of the drones.

From an very abstract point of view, "drones" have already taken over the financial world, as the numerous articles about the runaway High Frequency Trading on Zero Hedge have been demonstrating!

http://www.financialsense.com/contributors/cris-sheridan/artificial-cris...

The front line of science fiction has astonishingly become the financial world being taken over by computers, where nobody human seems able to still understand them! Since the real system is force backed frauds, both are being automated by advancing technologies! Thus, drones to back up algos! Meanwhile, the INSANITY of powering up huge lies with technologies trillions of times bigger than anything before in human history is playing through before our eyes.

More in the vein of things becoming astronomically insane!!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44034768/ns/technology_and_science-innovation/#.Tj8uO2Hbb6B

"Drones are essentially flying — and sometimes armed — computers," ... They’re robots that follow the curve of Moore’s Law rather than the Pentagon’s budgets, rapidly evolving in performance ... robots on the battlefield will be a paradigm-shifting revolution in military affairs. First comes the high-tech arms race with China, Israel and all the other nations competing to build their own drones. Then comes the low-cost trickle-down into low-tech wars like Libya’s, where tomorrow’s rag-tag militias may fight with their own drones. Finally, if robots are simply computers with wings (and missiles), then expect to see future wars fought by the descendants of flash-trading algorithms, with humans as anxious bystanders. ...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/aug/03/drone-race-factory-slaughter?newsfeed=true

... Given the 10-year spate of CIA drone strikes, what can be said when other countries use drone strikes against perceived threats in other states? And this is just the beginning; current drones are like the Wright brothers' prototypes compared with what's coming next. And here is where the real danger resides: automated killing as the final step in the industrial revolution of war ... Think how much worse it will be when drones deal death automatically. Is this really a technology we want the secret intelligence services of the world to control?

Of course, this ALREADY LOOKS OUT-OF-CONTROL!

Since I am Canadian, and we follow the USA, and are already integrated into NATO, and "Fortress America," these two sorts of stories may also be relevant. OF COURSE, Canada is following the path towards robotic drones doing "police" work!

Posted this earlier, seems appropriate for a repost..

My Fellow Americans,

I apologize for the death of Manny Ramirez. He was killed by a drone strike authorized by me as President. Apparently, Sasha and Malia thought it would be funny to put a couple of athletic playing cards in the deck I use to randomly draw names to kill people when I feel a little down. I knew it looked different and just thought it was one of the many requests that I get from allies and friends around the globe. I have a committee started to standardize the look and appearance of the Sanction decks and will get those sent out to my friends and our allies for future requests. Unfortunately, the fact that he was killed brands him as an enemy combatant/terrorist and will probably eliminate him from Hall of Fame consideration along with some of his other troubles. As to the other 127 people in the night club that died with him, by standing under the bomb they are also guilty of being enemy combatants and that may impact any potential life insurance payouts.
I know that some of you will want me to pardon him posthumously to improve his chances at the Hall and not doing so may affect my legacy as president. Sadly, to continue my legacy intact, I probably can only pardon one traitor/terrorist and I may need it for that Jewish guy as a last ditch effort to get reelected.
Sincerely,

Barrack Obama

Yeah - could it be that "They" are "in-your-face" playing with us?

I read only a couple of paragraphs of Dorner's manifesto but was immediately struck by how articulate he sounded - not something you'd expect from your typical cop grunt. Could it have been written for him?

If so - why, and by whom?  Here's a theory.

Maybe this whole episode is an expedient to get drones in the skies over the US with the minimum of fuss/protest - if not to popular acclaim - once they've "proved their worth" by scoring a direct hit on Dorner?

Of couse the body would not be recovered since it supposedly would have been blitzed to smithereens by the drone.

Meanwhile, as a reward, Droner is "fixed up" living in luxury in some villa in the Caribbean.... at least "temporarily"...

Thus Dorner becomes the honorary Droner...

When cops are taking care of business I can understand
But the L.A. story's gone way out of hand
Their acts of aggression, they say they're justified
But it seems an obsession has started from the inside
They're shooting anyone who even tries to run
They're shooting little kids with toy guns
Take it to a jury but they don't give a damn
Because the one who tells the truth is always the policeman

Beat all the niggers
Beat whoever you see
Don't need a reason
{We're} L.A.P.D.

The city of L.A. feels like a prison
With helicopters overhead and bullets whizzing by
Martial law ain't no solution
Police brutality's just social pollution

Beat all the white trash
Beat whoever you see
Don't need a reason
{We're} L.A.P.D.

They say they're keeping the peace but I'm not buying it
'cause a billy club ain't much of a pacifier
"Protecting your freedom" now that's just a lie
It's an excuse for power that's more like an alibi
Law and order doesn't really matter
When you're the one getting bruised and battered
You take it to a jury, they'll throw it in your face
'cause justice in L.A. comes in a can of mace

Beat all the niggers
Beat whoever you see
Don't need a reason
{We're} L.A.P.D.
{We're} L.A.P.D.

The reward is for "capture and  conviction". Since the LAPD has their execution squads out going full gangbanger, there will be no capture and conviction. The unpaid $1 million will go to the police force instead for new paramilitary costumes and perhaps some will go to the widows and orphans fund. Neat trick , huh?

I think that the opposition against the State's totalistic nannyism would have been one of a lesser extent, had the utilisation of drones been introduced in a more stepwise progression, perhaps in tandem with their primary use as radio-controlled extrajudicial assassinators, in order to acclimate the social collective towards their existance.

My two cents; government subsidies for their adoption by the restaurant delivery industry.

What's particularly disturbing about this case is that Dorner was fired for blowing a whistle on his TRAINING OFFICER.

Apparently he claimed that his training officer kicked a mentally-disturbed man.  The claim was investigated and it was determined that Dorner MADE UP THE STORY.

Really?  Did Internal Affairs just take the word of the TO that he didn't kick the guy?

Hey, I've seen the movie.  We all have.  It's called Training Day, with Ethan Hawke playing Dorner and Denzel as the Training Officer...

I'm unwilling to say that I'm on Dorner's side, but It sounds to me like the LAPD really screwed the pooch on this one.

He has all the hallmarks of being a member of the Navy Special Boat Teams, a unit considered "special forces" and tasked with in/exfiltrate SEALs and other brown water navy hi-jinx.  And he was an officer to boot.

Public Safety Alert: Currently there are a large number of criminals roaming around the LA area. They are all heavily armed with assault weapons, similar to that used in the Sandy Hook massacre (and even more evil), somewhat trained, and will not hesitate to shoot and wound standbys. Their apparent target is pickup trucks. It is extremely foolish to drive a pickup truck in that general area. After indescriminately shooting at their victims, these criminals are known to not even bother to flee the crime scene.

Boy are they scared shitless. I'm eagerly waiting for the movie.

Sandy Hook was done with a handgun.   There were no "assault weapons" used.  There was, however, an unused "assault weapon" sitting in a nearby parked car...

The story is he used an AR-15.   The holes in the kids, the overpentrated bullets in the walls, and the shell casings evidently speak to the Bushmaster being used, or primarily so, so far as I read it.

Sun, 02/10/2013 - 18:07 | 3231331 RSBriggs
RSBriggs's picture

Incorrect.  One of the guns he stole from his mother was an AR-15, but he left that behind in his car.  He entered the school carrying handguns ONLY - that's one of the things that stinks about this whole "gun control legislation" situation.   There were no "assault weapons" used to perform Sandy Hook.

Sun, 02/10/2013 - 18:13 | 3231347 The Answer Is 42

I wouldn't even bother to argue the point. The point is what kind of weapon was used is irrelevant.

I would think you'd find it a little curious that the ban, supposedly due to the Sandy Hook shooting, attempts to ban something completely different than was used in the shooting.

And history is being re-written even as we speak - in a few more months the shooting will have morphed into being by a gang of white, para-military preppers that buy gold and hang out on ZH...

Never let a crisis go to waste.

I don't have an agenda here, but that's not an AR.  It's clearly a side charging handle, and it's a very large round that's ejected (like a 12 gauge shell).  Definitely not a .223 round, and no AR has a side charging handle like that.

Seriously though look at the officer that " finds" the gun. Looked to me like he was not wearing gloves, even rubber gloves. It's hard to say for sure but I don't think he had any on.

Even Barney Fife would have put gloves on before touching that gun. And a few seconds later you see guys in the area decked out in full Haz Mat gear. What gives, why didn't they get the gun?

Awesome, but note that cops can have "select fire" rifles, i.e. military full auto and burst fire weapons.

The Sandy Hook rifle was a fully legal civilian semi-auto rifle that happens to look like what the military calls an assault rifle, and has the same ergonomics roughly, but isn't one.   The military doesn't have any of those and doesn't issue them.   Very often cops have the military gear, the real stuff.
