Just Say NO: Seattle Residents Kill the City’s Drone Program

Tyler Durden's picture

Via Michael Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

The anti-surveillance state movement is gaining traction and following Charlottesville, Virginia becoming the first city to pass anti-drone legislation, the engaged citizenry of Seattle have now succeeded in killing their city’s own drone program earlier this month.  On the state level, while legislation has been introduced in several places, it appears Florida is closest to enacting domestic surveillance drone regulations into law.  The title of the bill is the “Freedom from Unwarranted Surveillance Act.”  From Forbes:

After a Public Safety, Civil Rights and Technology Committee hearing in Seattle (held the night of Feb 7), where residents raised concern over the Seattle Police Departments attempt to use surveillance drones, the program was successfully killed.

In a written response, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn wrote: “Today I spoke with Seattle Police Chief John Diaz and we agreed that it was time to end the unmanned aerial vehicle program so that SPD can focus its resources on public safety and the community building work that is the department’s priority. The vehicles will be returned to the vendor.”

On the legislative side of things, multiple states are already moving to enact laws to strongly regulate the use of surveillance drones.  According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Maine has a bill introduced to regulate drones, as do Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas. In Virginia a hearing has already been held on a bill, while Montana has three bills, and hearings have already been held there as well.

Of all states, however, Florida is the closest to enacting domestic surveillance drone regulations into law.

The Florida bill was introduced by state Senator Joe Negron—a very powerful Republican who chairs the budget committee. The actual title of the bill is the “Freedom from Unwarranted Surveillance Act,” and according to the ACLU it has strong bipartisan support, along with support from public defenders, the Florida Sheriff’s Association, and Florida Police Chiefs.

While these guys will try to get away with anything they think they can, this demonstrates that when the citizenry is involved and active we can control our own destiny.  Great job Seattle!

Anyone foolish enough to believe TPTB will follow some silly notion such as "laws" deserves what is coming to them.

Gold bugs have been wrong for a year and a half.  Gold bugs who thought interest rates would rise have been wrong for 3 years.  Yet somehow the yelling and arm waving doesn't stop, all the gold bugs in the world keep shouting at the top of their lungs that soon - because of inflation - bonds will collapse and gold will skyrocket.

Yet why has gold risen up until now?  Inflation expectations.  And now that gold has fallen maybe those gold bugs will realize that inflation is low, if anything at all.  Rates rise a measly little bit and bonds are collapsing!  Even Tyler understands that bonds are where people have been seaking investment during this depression.

Do gold bugs listen to the facts?  No.  Now they will read about drones and bullets and guns and hid in their hampers with pots on their heads hoping for space aliens to come and take them away from a society that has rules and laws and science.

Wow, that was a real contribution. Very insightful and ful of facts and logic tha we all can use and respect.

Funny, I head about the same type of thing. An associate that like to flip houses  gave me the same reaction when I was telling him that real estate doesn't always go up (back in 2006). After his bankruptcy, he doesn't seem to come around much more.

And I am anti Krugman. Krugman is one of the dumbest liberal economist in history.

Jeez, you need to get out of your mom's basement more often.

Dr Paul Krugman's picture

My moms basement is a nice house on the beach and I write a blog and like to familiarize myself with others.

I find Zero Hedge informative.

1)  The readership and writers are well versed traders

2)  I like to know what my opponents are saying before they come begging back telling me they were wrong, like Niall Ferguson just did

I hope I get droned real soon.

I'm looking forward to showing them my one-eyed baby.

You wrote hid in their hampers did you mean hid in your pampers? You're missing an e...amongst other things.

You and MDB are sweet on each other arntcha?

MillionDollarBoner_'s picture

I think what happened was he dropped an e, thereby altering the tense.

Perhaps if he dropped an e more often he would lighten up a bit...

erg's picture

No need to come to his defense, you're not the MDB I'm looking for.

I think he should drop a hit. Maybe he'd make more sense.

Edit: That's civil, polite speak for mind your own fucking business. I am amazed and inundated by the flood of fools that don't know their business.

CaptainObvious's picture

Your mom's basement was a nice house on the beach, until Hurricane Sandy blew it down like the big bad wolf.  Anyone who is stupid enough to build on a beach deserves what they get.  (Oh, and if your mom's house is on the opposite coast, then you are currently being bombarded by radiation from Fukushima.  Couldn't happen to a more deserving fellow.)

These Criminal Banksters own the “government”. The “government” does not tell them what to do, they tell the “government” what to do. They are the reason there is war everywhere, why the “government” ruling over us attacks nations all over the planet committing murder and terrorism against them and treason against us every day. I can’t imagine what sort of force will have to come to the fore to stop these Criminals, but they must be stopped.

The “government” is a criminal organization. They rule with fire power. They are a gang that numbers in many thousands. Their goons are everywhere. America in under an occupation of criminals and will continue to be until they are at last forcibly removed from our land. Their economic Ponzi scheme is about to collapse and the main mechanism of their control will be gone. Their central bank, the Fed Reserve, (see fifth Plank Communist Manifesto) has run its course. A 100 year conspiracy is coming to fruition and the deed is done. Just one big problem for them, 200,000,000 guns in the hands of free Americans who hate their guts, and are hell bent of restoring this Republic to Constitutional legitimacy. Whatever cruelty, whatever ruthlessness the criminal “government” uses we must exercise even more so. Don’t forget, they want us dead. No quarter for traitors! No quarter for the enemy!

According to the US Air Force, information from the internet is being used to sabotage satellite signals critical to military operations.
This week’s New Scientist reports that instructions on how to build satellite jammers, using cheap equipment from home improvement stores and electronics fairs, are to be found on the internet. The UAVs have two alternative systems for communication.

Line of sight radio :
In the military C-Band 500 – 1000 MHz that can be jammed with simple spark-gap radio
Satellite communication :
In the Ku-Band between 10.95 – 14.5 GHz, and the satellite can be jammed.
The Uplink-Band to the satellite is 13.75 – 14.5 GHz
The Downlink-Band from the satellite is 10.95 – 12.75 GHz

And you should jam the Uplink frequencies with a jammer directed at the satellite.
If you jam the communication, then the operator becomes blind and the UAV will fly around until it crashes or the fuel is gone. But you must kill both links of communication to kill any rescue.

There are a limited number of satellite channels available which means that the satellite link becomes a bottleneck. The satellite is therefore used as a backup and jammer-rescue channel and for single special operations from far away from the target, while C-band radio is used for multiple simultaneous operations from near the targets. Every military base have their own UAVs that must be operated through the C-band radio. C-band radio is also reported to be used for take off and landing. Which means that the C-band radio is your primary target. The C-band radio is also easier to jam.

A radio jammer can also be used to deny the enemy to call in air support when you attack. Send out a team to jam the airbase radio before you attack any of those spread out tiny outposts or patrols.

Maybe the military/Pentagon/Joint Serfs might defend The Constitution instead of being cowards douchebags towards with the usurper and the criminal Senate.

Solarman's picture

They want you to spend all of your time chasing these freq's.  They are using laser communication, and just like in a fiber optic cable your bandwidth becomes unlimited, and sent across angstroms to limit the ability to jam it, like the ARPA net.

Really Paul? Gold has out performed every equity market over the last 5 years! Gold was $700 in 2008 and it's $1600 and some change now!  You're a fucking "Charlitain". Go back to that Shit Ball rag "NY Times!"

Papasmurf's picture

A can of fruit cocktail that cost $ .99 six months ago now costs $1.39 at Walmart.  But there's no inflation according to you.  I suppose you don't eat, since you're already full of . . .

JustObserving's picture

The world is drowning in fiat money.  The US has printed $3.6 trillion, the UK has printed at least $600 billion, ECB and Bank of Japan have expanded their balance sheet by trillions.  The total printing by these four is about $8 to $9 trillion.  The rate of printing in US now $1.02 trillion a year, while all the gold held by the US is about 8000 tonnes worth $400 billion.

Just the land value of Beijing is $20 trillion.  The total property value of China and Hong Kong is $200 trillion.  Property values in India are at least $30 trillion.  Other countries in Asia have similar property bubbles.  Property in Asia is worth $400 to $500 trillion.  And all the gold bullion in the world is worth only about $4 trillion.  All the gold mined in human history is about $9 trillion but more than half has been used in jewelry.

What are the world's equity markets worth?  Maybe $60 to $80 trillion.

What is the amount of silver bullion available?  Maybe, 1 billion ounces worth under $30 billion.

US debt and unfunded liabilities are $140 trillion and grow by $23 billion a day, enough to buy 75% of the world's silver bullion everyday.

So anyone who thinks that inflation will be subdued much longer is dreaming or is a deluded Central Bankster.

When you look at the enormous numbers for real estate and equities and debt, gold and silver are a bargain now.

Inflation can be measured by the cost of laundry detergent. In 2008 a 156 OZ box of Arm & hammer was 7.99. Now a 57 oz box is 7.59.

CompassionateFascist's picture

Sounds about right. The weekly basket of grocs that cost me c. $40 in '06 is now c. $120. But there's "no inflation". My income in nominal dollars, meanwhile...remains about the same.

Go Tribe's picture

So you're 100% equities? Or what???

Bunga Bunga's picture

Minimum wage hikes will kick off the inflationary spiral soon. Every business owner, who is not completely retarded, will suck out the 10 or 20 bucks per day, their customers have more in their pockets. To a certain degree they are forced to, because their cost is rising too. Bonds prices are not a scale for anything anymore, because not only the interest rates, but the whole yield curve is heavily manipulated by the Federal Reserve. The inevitable bond collapse gets just delayed, but will happen as soon the market forces will brake their way. Central planning always failed.

WhiteNight123129's picture

JUst wait. There are no exception in history to money inflation. People know credit induced inflation which is benign. Money inflation is far different. No exception in history when you explode the monetary base prices follow.
