We see that as a plus, as though it exposes a flaw in Keynesian thinking, but I think this was the goal all along. The economy went to shit, the government stepped on its neck to keep it down, and with a castrated media the statists can now point to government as the only thing keeping us going.
This makes perfect sense once you realize government intervention in the economy was never meant to "save" the private sector; it was only meant to empower the public sector. The idea has been planted in people's minds that we cannot survive by reducing the size of government. Never let a crisis go to waste.

I'd say urban vs. rural is a more likely divide. Rural Illinois, for instance, is the Land of Lincoln, but only to the extent that blacks not be there (see, this slavery "free" state was a racial issue). As a lawyer, the only slave case he ever argued was for the return of slaves to their owner (they escaped when he was illegally working them in his Illinois fields).

I am a air force brat and voted for Ronald Reagan when I was 18. It has taken me the last 10 years to realize that there is no 2 party system. The Republican establishment is completely disconnected and in fact abhors the conservative base. I for one no longer believe that this country is salvageable. Your comment on sheep is spot on. I have experience it literally. Walking up a hiking trail on our sheep ranch last week we encountered sheep and cattle grazing in the higher pasture. The cattle looked at us and grouped their young in the center of the herd and waited for us to walk by, ready to act if we made a threatening move. The sheep ran haphazardly at the sight of us hitting rocks, tripping into gullies and bleating frantically. We commented this to our host and he shook his head " damn stupid little buggers. It's such a pain in the ass keeping them out of trouble". "Sheep" is the most appropriate label to Americans today. I am sadden by that.
Thanks for the support. I really didn't feel too badly about the whole affair. Besides this is fight club and I must face with courage and grace as any warrior. I used to spar with men when I took karate long ago and yes I was fairly banged up most of the time because I refused to back up. My instructor finally near broke my arm once and I did back up. He did this to show me in every fight there is always a time to back up and I must learn this. ZH is certainly a mental venue of the same. I guess what bothered me the most is the smarmy tone of the whole exchange... I almost took a shower afterward. I was being manipulated not engaged because the barbs were chosen specifically to disturb my world. This is why I believe she won because I reacted to said barbs. I believe this was all she wanted. I'll be more careful next time.

Actually, until last night I was not aware that I had any "minions" at all. I guess the number of my followers must be inflating. Ha ha my dear pirate! I can't think of a better crowd to be associated. This has been such a great vacation for me because I can relax, be more contemplative and therefore more myself. Unfortunately in real life I have only brief moments between the necessities of my day to read, let alone post here, so often I feel so rushed I can't compose my thoughts well.
