Visualizing All The Silver In The World

Tyler Durden's picture

The historical cumulative Gold-to-Silver production ratio is 1:10.7; the price ratio of Silver-to-Gold is currently around 1:50. Demonocracy enables us to visualize the 1.411 million tonnes of Silver that has been mined in history and compares that to the world government reserve holdings (and gold).

depends on qty you are buying

for 100-500 that's about right

for 500 or more, you should be getting 2.70-3.00 over spot

The Fed and its FRNs will get taken down, too, when the eurosheeple realize the Bernankers "illegally downloaded" all their gold from the vaults.

Maybe then, with no more government funding for cronycops, Demonoid will go back online.

In my view, Demonoid is/was the post-millennial Library of Alexandria.

The silver price is on its way to ZERO. Despite today's deadcat rebound, the down trend will continue next week. Silverbugs had better get prepared for next round of pesticide spray.

When I was trying to get people to buy Silver at $4.35oz.; I used to tell them, well, the idea is to think a little about what's gonna happen in the near future; Sure the price has gone down a lot in the last ten years, but do you really think you're going to see the day when people stand on the street corner giving away free silver? Didn't do any good.

Here's the Saturday humor

~~~
Jamie & Blythe are going to start a PAPER ETF market in bitcoins... Put together a campaign to market the idea to the mass public... Then naked short the everloving bejezzus out of it [whilst planting shills 24/7 on CNBC & Bloomberg that show the PRICE of bitcoins getting monkeyhammered on a daily basis]... Might even get Uncle Warren & Beck Quick in on the gig talking about how digital packets of bitcoins were getting tangled with kiddie porn on the digital interwebs & that if you use bitcoins, one day while your little angel was watching Barney & Romper Room, all of a sudden out of nowhere, they'd get a pop-up of Beaker butt-fucking Captain Kangaroo...
In 5...4...3...2... some tech geek is going to reply to this comment by saying... "that could NEVER happen because the encryption of bitcoin packets is fundamentally different than... blah blah blah"... Which would prove my point from a previous comment... [that at some point ~ the HUMAN 2 HUMAN interface has to occur & FAITH is an element in that]...
9/11 is a perfect example... Raise your hand if you think it is TECHNICALLY IMPOSSIBLE that all the things that are contained in the 9/11 Commission Report actually happened [or were even capable of happening]... Nevertheless, we now have Patriot Acts, yellow ribbons, "We will never forget" bumper stickers, moments of silence at ballgames, NDAA's, & Constitutional re-configures, war upon war...
Whatever ~ makeup your own mind...
I'll actually give a <golf clap> to the first bitcoiner who comes on here and tells the story about how he spent $20 on 10 bitcoins when they were $2 & has recently cashed in 8 of them to buy a whole freezer full of 'HOTPOCKETS' which will get him through the next year of World of Warcraft binges... Until then ~ you all just sound like a bunch of RobotTrader or Leo K's pumping your Friday allowance money from Mom & Dad into Lululemon & Chinese Solars...
Answer the questions I posed above and spare everyone the irrelevant, diversionary rhetoric. Go ahead, answer the questions, they're easy if you have absolutely any idea what you're talking about with regards to Bitcoin.
Even XenoFrog has more informed, intelligent things to say about Bitcoin which makes for some good humor incidently.
Sat, 03/02/2013 - 01:00 | 3292771 RSBriggs
Bitcoin transactions have to flow over the internet to be validated.  The NSA and your ISP are both perfectly capable of stopping the flow of Bitcoin related packets (deep packet inspection ring any bells?).  Not to mention the fact that something along the lines of a Carrington event or a good EMP would render your computer, along with your Bitcoins, extinct.  If you can't hold it in your hand, you don't own it.  And if the Feds really wanted to fuck with you, they'd just plant a little kiddie porn here and there on your computer and have the swat boys pay you a visit to confiscate all your electronics.
Bitcoin is certainly not more secure than owning physical, and probably less so.  A hard drive failure or a power surge during a backup, or a good comptuer virus can wipe them out.  Not so physical PMs.
Holy fuck, yes, the government could do anything it wants. No shit! Look what they're doing to the entire U.S. and a number of foreign entities of absolutely no threat or offense to the said U.S. right now. Anything could happen and it is but they haven't assaulted any fucking Bitcoin yet have they?
There's a heavy air of shill on ZH when anything relating to BTC is mentioned and that is not only telling but educational.
"Bitcoin is certainly not more secure than owning physical, and probably less so."
Well that's highly dependent on circumstances.
"A hard drive failure or a power surge during a backup, or a good comptuer virus can wipe them out."
Not if one is careful and well-informed but sure the odd accident probably happens. One can store gold in their mailbox on the porch or they can safely store it elsewhere. The same extremes also exist with handling BTC. I don't have much but I have 5 digital back-ups on different media in different places and a 2 paper wallets, one with me and one with a person of trust. The world would pretty much have to end for me to lose a few thousand bucks. People with very large holding are much more careful by now and very well informed.
"Not so physical PMs."
Some posters here make it sound like you think people are trying to replace holdings of things like precious metals with Bitcoin. That's just nuts.
Interesting the large amount of vitriol about bitcoin on ZH.  All in all I think it's a good idea.  I have no real need for bitcoin, but to each their own.
I don't view bitcoins much differently than holding any other sort of relatively safe currency (e.g. Singapore dollars).  I sure wouldn't want to keep a lot of wealth in it, but it does seem rather handy for those transactions that you want to keep, uhhh, private.
Safer to use Tide as currency than bitcoin. At your local market no one is going to accept bitcoin as money if there are any significant national financial problems. Tide you can touch, smells, use, see, trade. Bitcoins may or may not exist at some point. Money and currency have the advantage that even a retard knows what it is. Bitcoin not so much. Ifs you got your money, your currency, things of intrinsic value stored away and want to play with Bitcoin as a gamble that's great, but counting on bitcoin as a stable currency is nuts. I don't understand and have not yet read anything that supports bitcoin as anything other than a gamble, novelty or quirkly IT-hipster fad. If I really believed in bitcoin I would have backed up the truck last time it crashed instead of posting about how fucking great it is. If I beleivd in PMs I would have bought it and kepth quiet, stocks, bonds, ETFs, IRAs, bullets, beans, butter the same.
Silver is too heavy, too bulky. Just $100k in silver would weigh well over 200 pounds. That much weight would severely limit mobility and agility in any number of scenarios. Hell, might as well have real estate. There must be a better way.
For the price of 10 kg of silver you can buy nearly 6 ounces of gold.
If you had to leave your house in a pinch would you rather be carrying 10 kg of silver in your pocket than 6 gold eagles?
That's an awful info-graphic. Why is there a stack of $100,000 in the first frame, then what looks like $200 in the second? Why are there piles of cash and a couch made out of cash? The graphic makes it look like the world is full of silver, not running out. And why the fuck would you even show blocks of gold if the graphic is supposed to be about silver? The images are nice, but concept sucks.
They should've added a block of shitty art, and put this one right on top.
All items that aren't the primary focus of the graphic are to provide scale or reference.
Why would someone show gold when talking about silver, dude? to show relative density, compare price vs size. conceptualize how truly rare both metals are.
Compare it to something bigger than silver: copper, nickel, NY whores. Don't put a smaller scale next to it. The way they set up the scaling makes it look like there's a shit load of silver.
Ahhhh.  Remember the good old days when Tyler wouldn't even mention silver?  I do.  Now he's trying to catch up to the bitcoin tidal wave that is about to overwhelm him.  Funny thing about free speech; those whose ignore or deride good ideas start to become increasingly irrelevant.  Silver and bitcoin are the crucifix and holy water of the banksters and their minions the statists.  Too bad their demise was set in stone many years ago.  Zimmerman provided the key, J Orlin Grabbe told us how to use it, and Toshi turned it.  Let the ignorant remain ignorant.  The bankers days are numbered and they know it.
Under Grover Cleveland we had a bi-metal standard with gold and silver, and it was an utter disaster. The bankers would manipulate the metals, and by doing so they contributed to the Panic of 1893. I always liked the idea of "competing currencies", which Ron Paul used to talk about, but now he is back in support of a Gold Standard.
So, what is it? Should we have a “Gold Standard”? A “Silver Standard”? A “Bi-metal Standard”? Or, should we have “Competing Currencies”?
lol, I want to know what formula they used to predict how much silver is percieve to have been lost.  The metals have been exchanged and used for so long, I can't imagine where to start in tracking lost gold and silver.  They didn't report shit to anyone back then, where did that tally come from?  And even ifthey did, the leaders back then were just as corrupt, so alot of big "shipments" lost were most likely off the books for kings, rulers, whatever the fuck they are anyways..
Would looking for said lost silver (shipwrecks, etc) prove to be profitable beyond production costs to mine new silver?  Hmm.. thinking out loud..
