Good Italy, Bad Italy, 'Girlfriend-In-A-Coma' Italy

Former Economist Editor Bill Emmott's expansive BBC documentary asks where has Italy gone wrong and examines (deep down inside) the good sides about the country as well as the disasters. With the next few weeks/months dominated by talking heads claiming to be experts on Italy, Italian politics, and Italian society; perhaps spending a few minutes on a Sunday night learning as opposed to guessing which blond will pick which buff young man in a reality show (or who Trump will fire) is time well spent (with a big glass of Chianti obviously).

I've been reading up on Grillo and his party. I like it. It's throwing TPTB off. I like how they try to frame him as a "comedian" when in actuality he is a sentient statesman who sees that Italy is dying from the slow suffocation of the euro currency. I hope he keeps it up.

Based on the viral expansion of Gangnam Style and The Harlem Shake, both of which have transcended cultures worldwide, I think people are so disillusioned and so beaten down that they need and latch on to things that are so ridiculously absurd. Looks like Grillo is bringing a small slice of that absurdity to politics and the people have spoken. They want it. I wish Grillo a long run and hope that he is perhaps the Black Swan. He just needs to watch his back.

Real education never stops and has no limits: anything and everything is valid and worthy of learning on the way to true Wisdom.
Economists, on the other hand, are more often than not people of very restricted mental horizons, living, working and thinking within a limited social environment shared with a group of like-minded individuals, with a suspicious weak ethical framework and extremelly prone to groupthink. If any, they are hyper-specialized and under-educated.
Shunning formal education is about as simple minded as believing that formal education alone is enough to have a real education.

You cannot beat Italy when it comes to food, fashion, sexy women, jaw-dropping scenery, gorgeous cars and fabulous wine. And they are friendly people also. It is my favorite country to visit (which I do regularly) and I hope and pray that they do get this mess sorted out as quickly as possible. It looks like they are finally headed in the right direction - away from the debtor's prison that is the Eurozone.
And Bam Man let's not forget that of all the world's people they hate and distrust government and authority the most - based on thousands of years of experience with tyrants of all kinds. Political, military, religious, and plutocratic. That alone would qualify them as being at the pinnacle of the world's civilizations.

that's odd..i thought he was an asshole completely out of touch with the reality of italy, but in touch with self-aggrandisement, his hatred of berlusconi and offered no solutions for the 50 million people in italy who aren't interested in growing herbs in their window boxes or the imapct beppe grillio has just had on the political landscape...which for me is the largest potential change for good seen since garribaldi.
