Tyler Durden's picture

Business as usual here perhaps - President Obama is set to announce some new nominations - but will he have a rant about sequestration?

On Friday he cracked my up when he said that some people had been saying that the see-castration was going to be apocalyptic but it probably wouldn't be an apocalypse.

Yes, Mr. President, some people including someone that you can see in the teleprompter when it is turned off, was running around the country for weeks proclaiming the coming apocalypse.

I guess that's what happens when you have three generations of men sitting at the same table for meals: you're forced into the realization that things don't always work the way you want. My dad would slap me into next week for not taking responsibility for my mistakes.

Army trying to figure out what to do with 20,000 mine-resistant trucks

It seems the so-called Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (MRAPS for short) aren't going to have the same kind of life expectancy as their predecessors. According to CNN, the military is finding it difficult to cook up uses for the 20,000 MRAPS it possesses that are no longer needed for the war in Iraq, where the threat of improvised explosive devises necessitated gigantic V-shaped hulls and several tons of armor.

Due to the sheer size and weight of the machines, along with the specialized nature of their design, the military isn't likely to continue using MRAPS in differing battlefield conditions after troops are pulled from Afghanistan in 2014. So, what will become of these 20,000 MRAPS? So far, the only option on the list is for mine clearing and explosive ordinance disposal. Thing is, they don't need 20,000 of them for that.

It's potential for nefarious domestic use aside, what you're seeing is the relentless and unchecked influence of the MIC, that needs to "feed the beast", i.e. keep coming up with new products and apps, to maintain their stock prices.

The Mil & Gov -- the other half of this symbiotic relationship -- needs to keep the velocity of money going and unemployment of ex-GI's down.  Self-interest & unchecked greed explains things easier/better than 'malice' 9 times out of 10.

FACTS TO CONSIDER:

Should the U.S. pull out of Chicago?

Body count: In the last six months, 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago compared to 221 killed in Iraq, and Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the entire US.

President: Barack Obama
Senator: Dick Durbin
Congressman: Jesse Jackson Jr.
Governor: Pat Quinn
House leader: Mike Madigan
Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike)
Mayor: Rahm Emanuel

The leadership in Illinois - all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago.

Of course, they're all blaming each other.
Can’t blame Republicans; there aren't any!

Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.
Can’t blame Republicans; there aren't any!

State pension fund $78 Billion in debt, worst in country.
Can’t blame Republicans; there aren't any!

Cook County (Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country.
Can’t blame Republicans; there aren't any!

This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois.
And he is going to “fix” Washington politics for us???

George Ryan is no longer governor; he is in the big house. Of course he was replaced by Rod Blagojevich who is...that's right, also in the big house. And Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned recently. That’s because he is fighting being sent to…right again, the big house!

Burwell for OMB...another status quo retread...yawn.

Burwell is a Washington veteran, having served as OMB's deputy director in the Clinton administration and chief of staff to former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin. She currently runs the Wal-Mart Foundation, the retail giant's philanthropic wing, and previously served as president of the Gates Foundation's Global Development Program.

Bowles's deputy will be Sylvia Mathews (Burwell), who is now chief of staff to Goldman Sachs's Robert Rubin at Treasury. Gene Sperling, who will run the National Economic Council, was Rubin's deputy when he headed the NEC, and Rubin's current deputy at Treasury, Lawrence Summers--architect of the bailout of Mexico's banks--will have new powers as a "principal" on the Council. ...  With Wall Street in control of the Clinton administration, it is clear that the bipartisan duopoly is hurtling America toward an ever-greater degree of corporatism

How the frick does this Obuma asshole have a 55% approval rating?

It just goes to show you that liberals are a simple minded, sheepish, unobjective one way street. At least many conservatives were able to put away their biased party identity, and express their displeasure with Bush. That is why Bush's approval sank to 32%. It took many conservatives to show REAL honesty, unlike the disgracefully disingenuous liberals.

I do not mean that the conservative pundits were objective. They were disgracefully disingenuous as well.

Like I've said many times.

In 1980, you needed a job to feed your family.  Welfare was minimal and it was frowned upon.  People voted for a president that they felt could get them a job.

In 2012, you could either get a job to feed your family or you could go on a government program.  People voted for a president that doesn't require them to work.

And for you people that say people want a job, FU.  We have a crumbling infrastructure yet 15% of the population is unemployed and the government pays them to sit on their collective asses instead of paying them to rebuild the infrastructure.  Because requiring work would mean no votes in elections.
