One Drone Missing; Reward Offered. Please Contact FBI
Yesterday we noted the somewhat startling confession of @NYCAviation investigating a four-engined small aircraft (or drone) at JFK. Today we get the confirmation as the FBI "seeks public assistance in identifying, locating, unmanned aircraft and operator."
Perhaps this?
Via FBI,
On Monday, March, 4, 2013, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the pilot of Alitalia Flight #608 spotted a small, unmanned aircraft while on approach to John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Alitalia flight was roughly three miles from runway 31R when the incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 1,750 feet. The unmanned aircraft came within 200 feet of the Alitalia plane.
The FBI is investigating the incident and looking to identify and locate the aircraft and its operator. The unnamed aircraft was described as black in color and no more than three feet wide with four propellers.
“The FBI is asking anyone with information about the unmanned aircraft or the operator to contact us,” said Special Agent in Charge John Giacalone. “Our paramount concern is the safety of aircraft passengers and crew.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 212-384-1000. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

I bet they could track it down, if only they had a slightly larger budget.
Sounds like HMS needs a new division to cover this, as the TSA gate-rapers are all too busy.
Anyone who gives it back is a fucking turncoat.
Chuckie Schumer: "What we need is a multi trillion dollar "War on Drones".
Might try calling Fort Meade or Langley. My guess is they would tell the FBI to fuck off.
After all, what's more important, drone practice or airline passenger safety?
Ive gotta say, these drones are just freakin' amazing. I was flying one of these babys at the beach the other day and some of the shots I got of the sunbathers are just sweet. You can literally see everything and everyone. It's like a birds eye view. Everything's more out in the open with these things flying around. I think it's better that way.
You can do better.
Now, now… When US citizens do the counter-terrorism jobs the government should be doing, the system works!

MillionDollarBonus_: You're comic relief aren't you? Like a hired gun.
Easier for the military to deny there's a drone, than to deny that twa 800 got in the way of their missile.
Shit...I just lost ALL of my gold and silver in a drone accident this morning. Fuck me...Should've never trusted that piece of shit with a Made in China label on it...
Hey!
I found it!
That crazy Iranian dude's Andiwannahandjob's got it!
Where's my money?
Crazy Iranian? Obama?
cool science project
extra credit in history
I think that what we really need is a drone to track drones!

I prefer a Nikkor AF-S 800 mm lens with a Nikon D4 -- mounted on a Bogen tripod.
It was larger than the pilot reported:

That's bizarre--was he taking upskirt shots or just photographing people going by?
Military Industrial Complex is get in way of freedom, but where is complaining?!
In KronyKapitalistAmerika, Financial/FiatBanking-Military-PharmaHealthCare Complex channel stuffs you!
the government must do anything to take down this fugitive drone with a mind of its own before it corrupts the other thousands flying all over the country....might be the beginning of judgement day.
Expect to see upcoming defence industry ads in military related magazines hawking new "Counterdrone" technology capable of delivering real-time, uploadable, programmable, expandable, lightweight, fuel efficient, ECM/EMP hardened, day-night, all weather, infared sensing "solutions" for America's warfighters, law enforcement agencies, as well as corporate clients.
You mean like this ?

... pardon for the time jumping/ out of order thing
Am I the only one that thought, after reading the headline, that the drone belonged to the FBI?
I feel duped.
However, it is funny that the FBI is trying to lay cover for the CIA.
No, it was Bloomburg's soda patrol.
Ya...but on such short notice...?? :-)
so you are a fucking retard that can't go and check the sunbathers by yourself? And i thought you are a normal human being but it turns out that you are a full retard
MDB's caught himself a live one today!
You took him seriously. I am afraid it is you that is the retard.
noted.
now you wanna troll?
As if his jew-hating comments in other threads today didn't already give that away. For example, his claim that Dick Fuld's firm was allowed to fail because Fuld wasn't a jew (although we're talking about Lehman Brothers!)
Hes right about the Jews fleecing everyone else. Ben Bernanke just proved it.
Bankers are fleecing everyone. Bankers come in all stripes. Does Jamie Dimon look jewish to you???
Put Jeremy Siegel on this list....after listening to Cramer on CNBShit this morning, I turn to Bloomberg TV to avoid the cheerleading but this jbag assclown comes on and is calling for Dow 15k this year. I turned the channel to preseason baseball....good move.
Does Jamie Dimon look jewish to you???
They don't care. They get a twisted rush out of hating Jews. They leap at opportunities to do it.
It's an old, evil virus.
you mean waving your Facefuck shares at the chicks isn't working?
MDB, I'm happy to drone your back yard, as a fair turn. Being such an up-right citizen, and having "nothing to hide", why don't you give Scotty your coordinates. Kirk out.

I'm surprised you are still posting. Your supervisor hasn't pulled you off these forums yet? No one here knows where it tis.. dont you worry.. mwahaha
Until I see commentary about Krugman & Bernanke-programmed drones loaded with cases of money for stimulating the economy by the masses I am disappointed with this poor effort. Disappointed indeed.
Weak sauce
Nothing even about checking for errant libertarians from aerial surveillance to ensure they're not spreading their rampant viral free-market terrorism. Nada.

Chris Droner strikes again!
There will be many more Chris Droner's to come.
Will the promise that: "Tipsters will remain anonymous" end as sweetly as all those whistle blowers protected under Federal Law who've been raped, pillaged, burnt, drawn, quartered and exorcised by the Federal Government?
Just wonderin' out loud.
That Law of Unintended Consequences is a Bitch
Unless they armed it with a nuke and then returned it to its point of origin.
Miffed;-)
This is just the reason we need to enact the "Comprehensive Assault Drone Ban of 2013".
Remember kids, only criminals need cameras, or written records. If you're not doing anything wrong, you don't need to protect yourself.
The Gooberment needs to call them there boys down at Duck Dynasty to git them a Drone Call! Lure the that little bugger right in.

I lost my RC helicopter too. I think I should report this to the FBI.
Bullshit
The fed helicopter only lands when it runs out of ink and paper.
Oh.................fuck you bernanke!
Helicopter dropping paper was SO yesterday. We drop electronic digits today!
Yes............. fuck me! LOL
It was probably captured by the Iranians!
It's probably forsale on silk road and they've copied the shit out of the firmware and are selling it with full xray scans by now.
Just a guess...
owned!
Maybe it was a sequestered drone
Probably not - the trouble with the AR Drone Parrot (with indoor hull as shown) is that the range of the WiFi is about 300 feet / 100 Meters. You simply can't fly that thing at 1750 feet....
That's not anymore impossible than all of the alleged in-flight cell phone calls on 9/11.
Perhaps they'll do an article on them in Popular Science soon?
Or non-volatile indestructable passports amongst the vaporized wreckage.
(Methinks the broadcast power is the limiting consideration, no?)
Or one of those un-burnable driver's licenses. You could replace tiles on the space shuttle with those things...
You don't need a PopSci article about it - see http://ardrone2.parrot.com/usa/. I own and fly several drones of various makes. There is no way in fuck the AR parrot is going to fly at 1750 feet. I've seen one demo where a truck full of Lucent-Alcatel wireless boosters and a big 30 foot boom antenna got you to 1,000 feet, barely, but it's not going past 300 feet away under iPhone control.
But a HAM operator easily could with a small hand-held transmitter.
My thoughts exactly. It's only radio waves. They follow the conture of the earth and go around the world, whether you want them to or not.
Uh, not always... get a ham license and find out...
HAARP HAARP HAARP
Bounce bounce bounce bounce
http://www-star.stanford.edu/~vlf/buoy/
You figure out how to do that, and you've got a guaranteed successful business selling devices (or at least plans) to hundreds-of-thousands of RC enthusiasts - most of whom would lay out $300-$400 in a heartbeat for something like that. (Myself included.)
http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Technology/pdf/9202018.pdf
And never mind that it is HIGHLY illegal to sell, manufacture, operate, or distribute plans for a device that allows control of an RC device outside of visual line-of-sight range, unless you are a government agency or qualified law enforcement department.....
...outside of visual line-of-sight range?
12 miles x 5,280 feet is 63,300 feet
i would never break a law!
Why?
How is it that almost anything in this country that's fun and desirable, is either Illegal, Immoral or Fattening?
Do you believe everything you hear?
Of course it might just happen that somebody with a bit of knowledge of electronics and programming mates a 3G mobile data phone/dongle with an existing RC design ...
AR drone owner and ham operator here. Nope. You could upgrade the ground antennas/transmit power easy enough, but the onboard power supply the drone has isn't nearly enough to get you to 1700' with any flight time.
My guess would be that it's probably a very high end quadrocopter with a large LiPo pack and high-end radios, or a custom build. It's far more likely that this is a local agency's toy or it's someone doing news gathering or air surveys. This would be a likely candidate: http://www.draganfly.com/uav-helicopter/draganflyer-x4/
The price tag on that is > $10K, so it's unlikely to be someone just screwing around with a toy.
Canucks, eh, who knew?
Yeah, well, the MoFu who's teaching the Top 10 snipers is also a... "Hoser". Whodda thunk it. Stay nice to those nice people up north.
From the draganfly.com website:
Grant AssistanceThe Department of Homeland Security makes grants available to states, local and tribal jurisdictions, and other regional authorities to assist in planning, equipment purchase, training, and exercise needs. Draganfly Innovations will provide grant writing support, consultation, and assistance to qualified agencies.
I've seen a home built one that was made for a few thousand. Guy was flying it in the mountains, and it supposedly had a range of a few kilometers. He used the camera and goggles to see.
found an antenna at meritline that will reach out 6000 ft for that little toy drone. less than fifty bucks. usb powered
will they get chertoff's nephew to "write" it?
With a high gain antenna at the ground station, you could multiply the range

Adapt a 3GUSB Modem and the sky is literally the limit!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlk2Ref5jUs
Yes the sky would be one limit the other would be ones ability to acutally see something that small at 1/4 mile away! One could use binoculars but with any improvement in range your feild of view diminishes greatly!
If you have a high enough bandwidth on your modem, a small resolution webcam on your drone allows you to have effectively zero distance from pilot to drone.
The sky is effectively the limit, or at least the geographical coverage of your phone operator.
Been thinking about it:
RC plane + Arduino Board + camera shield + 3G shield + A little bit of coding and you have yourself a long range scouting homemade drone.
The weather...well everywhere has been a bit strange. If a big gust of wind shoved it just out of range and it kept going. Those things are lightish, and very stable, pushes like a kite except there is no string. Wind grabs it and it blows away. Here are wind maps, RC guys live by these things.
http://hint.fm/wind/
BTW Columbus it's looks like your local station is on and that's a hell of a wind storm starting up.
Do Not Talk About Drone Club!
There. Is. No. Drone. Club.
Al-Qaeda of Brooklyn?
Absolutely; Find the dancing Israeli "movers".
it only a problem when its not one of thiers
Who will say that it's not theirs?

Drone shooting will be the new skeet.
Can we get a pic of the president shooting drone?
Play nice or you might get a visit from the Alphabet agency.
I am thinking that dronejacking will become a new passtime.
FBI can't stand having competition, the poor dears.
Another OBL search. They are very good at it.
Years later and billions & billions (spoken like Sagan) later, they will find the drone near a military community in NY, shoot it at rest, and bury it at sea.
At least the Chinese drones have TCAS ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_collision_avoidance_system
Maybe they should ask Ahmadinejad, he seems to be good at recovering them.
Saddam Hussein's unmanned drones have finally arrived on our shores. Chemical and biological weapons will rain down on our heads! Attack Iraq, 2003 2013!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,79450,00.html
holy fucking cowaaa!
thnx for the post! I can't belive that this garbage "FOX" writes something like that...
Well, Fox after all is just another one of the messengers And I ain't defending Fox one iota) ... they're all complicit up to their prostates in the proliferation of Izvestia and Pravdaized propaganda originating with some Unknown Orwellian U-kno-Hoo!
Hey!
Maybe that's where all the unemployed Sci-Fi author otherwise unemployable English majors go to work!
No?
Bloody well seems it.
The populace has been overwhelmed with shit. The Negro fatigue, Green Fatigue, War fatigue, Turrduidta Fatigue, Bipartisanship Fatigue, LeftvsRight Fatigue, list is endless.
Ain't nobody ever heard of the Law of Diminishing Returns?
It's a Bitch
relax - it is an old story from 2003.
I'd say it was one of the ChairSatan's bill dropping 'copters, but it didn't sound big enuf.
Within 200 feet, oh my!
Iimagine if they had collided and the little RC plane got decimated while some paint got scratched on the airliner? Even getting ingested into a turbofan would have only caused a hot section inspection (finding nothing) of said engine while all that plastic and foam gets chopped, melted, and spat out the back.
Sheesh, nanny state needs to step down!
Then again, I wonder how much C4 one of those things could carry...?
Even a lil drone like the one in question could carry more than enough C4 to bring down anything flying into JFK
The 8 grand commercial versions can carry payloads as large as 60 lbs. The drone pictured above is made of polystyrene/styrofoam. A jet would suck one of those up as easily as it would a June bug.
Of course someone who rigged the thing up with C4 and a detonator would probably be smart enough to cut the lead powering the blinking LED lights, too.
This gonna be the next 'false flag'...?
Aerial mines.
'Dimon mine' destroys banks. Start IPO.
The hobby drone pictured could probably do some damage to an engine, just like a duck or couple of pigeons can do. Not likely a threat to anyone's health, but a costly repair.
Anyway, I think the FBI's query should start in Langley.
It was the Tahitians. French Polynesia is pissed about closing Club Med and is intent on fucking up NY. Or maybe it was the Ayatollah playing with his new gift from Assad. Maybe it was the tooth fairy.
Does it bother anyone that the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, FBI, DHS, CIA and all the rest of the agencies don't know how a drone is flying over the airport in NYC without their knowledge?
Maybe it belongs to Bob Woodward?
It would be funny (and perhaps likely) if this turned out to be a Department of Defense drone no one told them about.
Can't be doing spooky spy on your own people stuff if you have inter-agency transparency, now can you?
I'm sure it belongs to an Axis of Evil member..........
Easy to find it. Look on Ebay - it is for sale there....
Time to call in the experts:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2075157/Iran-claims-hacked-US-spy-planes-GPS-guided-aircraft-ground.html
“Our paramount concern is the safety of aircraft passengers and crew.”....................
righhhhhhhhhhttttt..................
Those are all wage slave, tax paying units. They are of a high concern.
C'mon, they're only economy class. What's the big deal?
Collectively they are valued; individually not so much.
“Our paramount concern is ... our post-sequester budget.”
Awesome. They'll follow up on a RC plane, but a bunch of Saudis who only want to know how to fly but not takeoff or land? Nothing odd there.
nice jab at 911 however there were no hijackers... the passports [which miraculously survived an explosion which allegedly vaporized engine parts and all the bodies of the alleged passengers] were stolen from visitors and exchange students. again more bullshit from the useless fucking brainless idiots working for Mueller.
What? No Radio shack ad on the side?
The Taliban are operating their own drones now, in US airspace?
Or maybe Iran.
I can think of all kinds of uses for this. How long before they fly one of those babies into the intakes of a 747 taking off at JFK?
Why bother, they probably have a couple thousand MANPADS at their disposal after we freed the shit out of Libya. Btw, does "MANPAD" creep anyone else out? Sounds gross to me.
Getting something like that into the country might be a little dicey.
But you can buy a quad-copter kit off eBay. And if the cops pull you over on the way to JFK you tell them it's a gift for your nephew.
DIY drones will become a cottage industry over the next few years. Obama (through the FAA) will move to have them banned outright.
How does that saying go again?
Oh yeah: "Turnabout is fair play."
(Bitchez)
When drones start busing Air Force One or above congress, or the WH or Camp David or at an Obama speech, sending them to cover fearing for their lives like the cowards they are, i'll agree with ya.
It's here at home with me....
Once 3D printing really takes off, then we will have the Cloned Drone Wars. I better copyright that, before Disney makes a movie.
The Honorable Jon Corzine at the controls?
If he was in the 'sights, that would be a drone we can believe in.
Took them a decade to find OBL in plain sight. Wonder how long it will take them to find this drone?
Of course will probably need another $500B and to listen in on an extra 100 million phone calls (w/o a warrant) but god bless american exceptionalism, they will find that drone.
Kamikazi citizen drones will combat the nazi drones.
We should probably secure the movie rights now.
Did they even bother to ask Skynet?
Huh, I guess drones cut both ways. Can't wait to see the laws on this.
We can drone you. blah, blah, blah, you can't drone us. That is all.
You mean like those security cameras that never seem to work when a state crime has been committed?
Yes

Sorry misplaced this comment- should haveput it in reply to this:

You don't have to have any contact with the drone at all. You give it waypoints and it flies them. Independently. That's the point. The difference between military and civilian drones (beyond payload) is the sophistication of the autopilot. The civilian autopilots are pretty basic but are certainly capable of flying to preset locations.
I'm kind of expecting a resurgence in interest in satelite phones (Iridium) as a command channel, based on civilian drone use, the data rates are not good but more than enough to act as command and control. 3G as you say can be used for interactive control as well as bulk data; sound, video, other sensors.
"You give it waypoints and it flies them. Independently."
And you program it for a series of JPG's or MPEG's, and u r set. Naughty/nice? "Film at 11".
I thought all the drones were in Washington D.C. along with the crones.
