Bloomberg To Appeal Halt Of "Arbitrary And Capricious" Decision, Will Fight Valiantly To Curb New York Obesity

It took the NY Mayor's office a few brief minutes to respond to Judge Tingling's order, and announce it would promptly appeal the decision. Because apparently nobody thought of the children.

If you live in NYC, please, PLEASE round up your friends, make a huge "Suck on This, Bloomberg" sign, go get some Big Gulps, and stand outside of City Hall.  Make sure you call the local news first so there's film at 5:00 and 11:00.

Why does every zerohedge comment have to have three levels of nested irony / tongue-in-cheek sarcasm, or just general immaturity.  I wish there could be more informative comments on here.

 

Anyway, why all the hate against trying to combat sugary drinks?  The food corporations are out of control - just look at the marketing image that Coke sells to young people (fit, healthy, full of life) when infact these drinks do the exact opposite and they are killing people (its not just the obesity, there are other problems like diabetes, malnutrition, etc).

 

You might want governments to stay out of everything but what about when the corporations are out of control?

If he truly cared about combatting obesity, he would do something to combat the use of high fructose corn syrup (govt subsidies to corn growers making hfcs cheaper than real sugar, therby incentivizing companies to use it)...not limit the choices of the people (for their own good) by telling them what size drink they can order.  Once again corporations are not "out of control" for the reason you think necessarily, but instead b/c the govt has subsidized them and sent the wrong signal to the marketplace (using your tax dollars).
