Because It Worked So Well For Stalin...
Submitted by Simon Black of Sovereign Man blog,
Five-year plans in the Land of the Free? Apparently it’s not that far off from reality.
Yesterday Senator Tom Harkin introduced S. 544, “a bill to require the President to develop a comprehensive national manufacturing strategy.”
In effect, Senator Harkin wants the President to centrally plan the economy. Never mind that the President has zero experience in business or manufacturing. But hey, this worked out so well for Stalinist Russia, it’s no wonder Mr. Harkin wants to copy that model.
Not to be outdone by Mr. Harkin’s long-sighted vision, President Obama is drawing up plans to turn over Americans’ financial data to the nation’s spy agencies. So now, on top of everyone else, law-abiding citizens in the Land of the Free can count on the CIA and NSA combing through their bank statements.
Of course, it’s all for your protection against men in caves who wish to do you harm.
This is the same reason they irradiate and/or sexually assault airline passengers. It’s why they have to be able to assassinate Americans on US soil by remote control plane. It’s why they’ve authorized military detention of US citizens. Etc.
When you step back and look at the big picture, it really makes one wonder – how big of a piano needs to be dropped on people’s heads before they notice what’s happening..?
I acknowledge that people have roots. I understand that folks can’t easily pick up and leave their jobs, friends, and family. I understand there’s a lot of inertia involved.
But if you see the writing on the wall, there’s so much you can do to protect yourself against this lunacy. Own precious metals, preferably stored overseas. Open a foreign bank account. Ship your retirement savings abroad. Travel a little bit. Know, in advance, where you would go if you finally hit your breaking point and needed to leave the country.
The trend is clear. Every single day the political elite gives us even more evidence that they’re working overtime to destroy the economy and what few remaining civil liberties still exist.
It’s a difficult truth to acknowledge given that most people have been brainwashed from a very early age in public schools to trust in their government. But placing any amount of confidence in this system utter folly. And dangerous.
There’s no need to panic; rather, it’s important to take measured, rational action. The above recommendations are not alarmist, they’re steps that make sense no matter what happens.
In almost any scenario, you won’t be worse off for having gold and silver stashed away overseas. You won’t be worse off for traveling abroad and finding a nice place you enjoy. You won’t be worse off for taking back control of your retirement savings.
Yet it the bottom falls out, you’ll be one of the few people left standing. Unless, of course, you’d rather wait for the next five-year plan to kick in.

When do the purges and unfortunate 'famine' begin?
- The effectiveness of monetary policy was last discredited in the 1970s. The persistent attempts to revive growth with easy money led to stagflation. The real world has turned to be opposite to the favored positions of the economics profession: the financial market is not only inefficient but systematically bubble-prone.
Trying to bring back yesterday through monetary growth will eventually bring inflation, not growth. This is what the Gov’t wants in order to ‘pay off the Debt’.
Source: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-01-23/money-cannot-buy-growth
Remember 1969 thru 1981?
Recall the politician's responses.
It was a time of Stagflation. The 'Bob Hope" generation HAD entered their 'spend less-save more' life stage. OUR Parents!
It should be clear that the baby-boom is in the same life-stage!
Not one Politician will admit they are helpless to restart Economic Growth!
They will wait this thing out, just like before.
Well you're right of course about what is going on but I'm not running. I'll stand and fight because at some point if you don't, it doesn't matter anyway.
And if those of us who chose to defend what is ours somehow ressurect a free and prosperous society, no doubt at great personal loss, latter-day carpet baggers will not be looked on kindly. Just sayin'.
stand and fight who? your Stasi neighbors? you don't get it most of the population will rat you out for not following whatever stupid rules they make up, you can't fight for something that has been dead for a very long time.
I'm inclined to believe that not fighting in an overt manner is actually an excellent choice. Make these fuckers own it. Fighting in the overt sense is just the cover and justification they are 'planning' for.
Lets see how they do when their nakedness becomes even more apparent? I sense more so each day how truly we as a species live 'on a long enough timeline' as repeats. It really honestly is the same history being recycled. To see this and sense this is discouraged. We are being played though...That much is obvious. So ZH is maybe a collective for the what? "People" who refuse to accept the big lie and so instead roll into the Zh version?
My God, what I pray for most of all is that you grant me the Grace of understanding You.
And yes I mean that and I would rather believe in a "magical" God than the whoreish deceptions of the failing (again human construct).
I just read Tom Harkin's bio .... his resume, is all government .... a full time Democrat (He's a Communist who wears his party's affiliation on his sleeve .... the Hammer and Sickle), unlike his Repubican co-horts who wear the "skull and cross bones underneath the red star").
this is bad, very bad! (this jerk T. Harkin is supposed to know the evils of Communism from his days around Vietnam), all I can say any more is "shoot me in the foot", "I want to go home to the land of the free".
Where is that land anymore .... the land of the FREE?
Where is that land anymore .... the land of the FREE?
There isn't one. Violent thugs own the planet and otherwise decent people jump to obey their every command.
Yes...
sycophancy, in all its forms, is the most frustrating, distasteful, and dangerous force of all.
I believe it has to do with a strange mix of lack of emotional intelligence, shallowness, and met expectations.
and met expectations.
Sweet.
Where do you go to submit the RFPs and RFQs. I wanna get me some of that.
come to think about it, since free markets have worked so well over the last three decades, that we are now talking again about a great depression, perhaps the time has come for a little bit of a plan?
Perfect example of a brainwashed, fast asleep mind. How old are you? We haven't had an resemblance of a free market in over seventy years now. EVERYTHING IS GUBMINT REGULATED! Sad, but the only endeavors that aren't, are the so-called criminal enterprises; prostitution, drug dealing and the like. Make no mistake, they have been planning all along, that is why things are so screwed up today.
Dude,
even crime is regulated (why do you think it is so prevalent here)? If you want drugs to go away ... you do what the musloid countries do .... you put them to death. You have zero recitivisim. Make the penalty so far beyond the crime, and everyone will follow. These barely united states of sumthin .... are united in the crime syndicate, you just haven't looked far enough in your gaze.
The communists have infiltrated "everything". Unless you know what the evils of this stuff is, you just say Huh?
Just wait .... there's a gulag waiting for you .....
Dude? Opening a post with "Dude" causes you to lose allot of credibility. DRUGS AREN'T GOING AWAY, EVER. I don't care if you have capital punishment for drugs, you can't stop it. What you can do, is stop the violence and crime associated with it {the mob hates this idea, because they know it is the only thing that hurts them}. YOU LEGALIZE ALL DRUGS. At the minimum, decriminalize them. Do that, and 75% of the problem is gone overnight. The gubmint we have now will never do that, because illegal drugs are a major source of revenue for them. No gulag waiting for me, maybe a mass grave, but no gulag because I will not go peacefully.
yes, and this gubmint regulated country put men on the moon using computing power of a handheld calculator. Invented a transistor, computer, laser, geosynchronous satellites and GPS, spawned a society with a living standard that was the envy of the world. I would say, not too shabby.
And then the bell of liberty and enlightment rang. The enlightened said: we beat gubmint dominated soviet union It stands to reason, that if some gubmint was so much better than all gubmint all the time, than no gubmint must be better still. So, one (not so) famous actor from California told gubmint to just go away, maybe even all the way to the trashheap of history.
Thirty years later, the report card is in. We are proud owners of the greatest gossip circle in the history of human race, and the greatest financial scam since dutch tulip bulbs.
How do these two compare, the enlightened one?
I know of something far more deadly than Communism, I'll give you a hint, it created Monsanto, Goldman Sachs, Halliburton, and Standard Oil. All these company are putting Stalin to shame in terms of destruction of wealth and a planet.
Monopolies were supposed to be illegal - Capitalism is not the problem, enforcing the laws and rules is.
The 'mercun sheeple have been programed into not only accepting big daddy gubmint, but demanding it. It all started back with with that scum FDR, and has proceeded unabated since."Tail-gunner Joe" was right all along. Too few wanted to believe the evidence. This is just one reason why the economy can't get any better: The gubmint refuses to get out of the way.
Forward !
HOPE AND CHANGE !!!!!!
Bitcheez........
??????
Harkin is a fucking idiot.
Hey folks, I know that this is a fairly well read blog. I'm asking an opinion; I'm a self employed - extremely far, far right conservative (never took a handout on "shit"). What's a fellow to do? Do any of you guys have any experience in the former Soviet Union or perhaps the Big Red China? I have a problem with following rules, (I've always followed the ones God gave Moses, but the Government rules .... shit, I kinda cheat when I feel like it). What's a guy to do? (I'm a 52 year old engineer - self employed) Should I just turn into a a chamelion - dump the self employment (they don't pay me enough to find ways around the regulations), and say "SCREW IT"? Or for you Rand accolytes ... "just go Galt". Shit ... I don't have anywhere enough dough to just say "fux it", but I'm looking at this the way I did when i was just a JAFE (just another fucking engineer).
Why is it some imbicile who hates this country can get his way and all he does is foment anger and deviciveness? (I'm referring to the imbicile in chief for the imbiciles that put him there, and for you aholes .... I've got some preparation H made from sulfuric acid).
I'll appologize ahead of the criticism ... I feel like Guy fawkes after getting caught. I've got kids, and I can't leave this place worse then I got it. capiche?
For you guys that lived under the Commies .... give me some recommendations .... I'm hurtin!
First thing you can do, is to start by not going on websites that are read by federal agents and blab that you have a problem with authority, following their rules and such, and that you CHEAT WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE IT. Not very bright coming from a 52 year old engineer. Where did you go to school, Purdue?
Mr. Obsolete,
I assure you that I am not a fool. When I say "cheat", I don't mean it in a big way. (I often don't wear my seatbelt in the truck .... and speed, and then there was the years that I drove a big fat motorcycle without an approved license to do so (no seatbelt on that bastard) - I'm good now, and then there was the time I let my FOID expire (I own firearms) in Illinois. In Illinois, they can lock you the "fucx up" if you have fire arms in your possession, and you don't have a valid FOID. It took 100 days to get one, after expiration. The state can brake the law and that's OK. Illinois is MOSCOW, do not move here. (They can audit my taxes, I'm better then golden). In Illinois, the average citizen brakes at least 10 laws a day. I am as honest as the day is long (a fault perhaps, but it's my religion to be honest, and decent and all that). My handshake is my word. Loyalty among those I am connected with is 100%. The folks that work for the feds are largely dolts .... they cannot compete with me, (just how many of these assholes have ever "started a business, and dealt with their own bullshit"?) If I have a large problem with someone, I can make them have "problems", if I wish to hold a grudge. I won't say how. I've been educated at some pretty decent schools (comparable to Purdue .... but different State, I'm not IVY). I would refer to myself as "not yet obsolete", perhaps "never obsolete". I may be a bit nuts, but then again who is 100% sane? Being a conservative against a destruction of everything that I intuitively know is correct is a tough position to be in.
I am not a pussy, I do not fear the assholes that work for the fucking state ...,they can watch my emails, at this stage I just don't give a shit....
In Moscow you pay less taxes than in Illinois.
His small talk has altered foreign policy. He once ran a marathon because it was on his way.
Slightly insane, I don't really believe unless you have a great deal of money you can escape. Historically this has been the case. During the black plague the uber rich at that time locked themselves in there estates and road it out while the common people suffered. No where to run no where to hide. If you accept that premise you look around and network and prep to the best of your abilities. Oh yeah try and fly under radar as much as possible....like I did by joining ZH!
Miffed;-)
Thanks for the kind words Mr. Miffed Microbio .... I'll stay away from the ebola, I guess it's time to get right by the big guy (I hope he still has a soft spot for the Good Samaratin).
you sound like me, its hard looking for info to front run this mess. and not for me but my loved ones. godspeed ps go check out martin armstrong site. he most likley has the best macro look on things

Dude, you're taking Lenin's definition of capitalism as legitimate? You have to know better than that.
And you have to know that the posters here don't consider corporate fascism to be "capitalism."
Either contribute or leave, but don't play word games - we have better things to do.
Lenin got his money from the international bankers.
For a mainstream view of the genocides during the 20th Century, that puts "Lenin" and "Stalin" (both of which are fake names, intended to mislead) into their historical context:

The War of the World — Episode 1
Six episodes of about 45 minutes each, on history of wars in the 20th Century.
These days, I find it quite surreal to watch a bunch of facts strung together, to present histories of 20th Century wars WITHOUT following money, to who ends up profiting! Nevertheless, significant historical facts are presented, and one may remember big banksters' roles in the background.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLC46CE7D51E1F77B5&v=rmtH3FzJWIE&feature=player_embedded
About the 33 minute mark of episode 2 the Manchurian Incident is mentioned, which was a false flag attack, when the Japanese blew up their railway, in order to blame the Chinese, and have an excuse for more warfare.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLC46CE7D51E1F77B5&v=EGGzPR9L-0g&feature=player_embedded
Episode 3 mostly confirms my view of history as nightmare.
History confirms the degree to which intellectuals are amongst the first group that will get murdered, when things get more and more controlled by evil! Overall, it seems all too easy to find collaborators. That the weapons became trillions of times more powerful appears to have postponed the process which shall likely return worse!
Since there are NO sane ways to fight the insanity of war with weapons of mass destruction, and yet, when things got bad, intellectuals were murdered, I continue to expect the future will be VERY EVIL! Unfortunately, I continue to expect that the only actual effects, IF there ever are any actual effects, of more radical "9/11 Truth" will be those who had attempted to disseminate that truth will be on the lists of those to be murdered ... after things become worse.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StJMQ5fSG6k&list=PLC46CE7D51E1F77B5
Episode 4 reminds us that:
"This was a war between evil and lesser evil."
To that extent, this is a superior presentation of history ... However, by leaving out the central, controlling, roles of the banksters, on all sides, it misses the worst of points, which are that it appears that the most evil prevails!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xN2GSZ2a5LE&list=PLC46CE7D51E1F77B5
Episode 5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jYcv1gyJJo&list=PLC46CE7D51E1F77B5
Episode 6
The closer to "the present" this documentary gets, the apparently more distorted bullshit it becomes! It gets more & more ridiculous for the alleged history presented to be based on a mass, mainstream media, view of whatever has happened, as well as focus on various political puppets, while ignoring actual roles of the big banksters, controlling behind the scenes. Given the degrees of dominance of civilization by the banksters, it is not at all clear whether or not deeper understanding of history, including them, will ever be more widely recognized or stated? At the least, this documentary features a typical massive lying by omission of banksters' powers! Since the power of the banksters steady grew, presenting any opinion of history omitting them becomes more obviously absurd as it goes on! "Explaining" the events of history WITHOUT following the money, and especially NEVER following money to its SOURCE, becomes extremely surreal ways to list the factoids!
However, on the surface, this documentary predicts future, probable, genocidal wars. Although I orient towards deeper causes, I come to similar conclusions as the video. The basic pressure cookers are heating up. Americans are having the lid welded shut on top of them, while at the same time, their are becoming the proverbial boiling frogs.
I regard the next article I link as a relatively accurate article, although it underestimates the problems and so tends to be more optimistic about solutions.

Killing America By Preston James, March 6, 2013.
I think that article puts in more proper perspective the relatively superficial opinions that I have been reading in various article by Simon Black, as reposted on Zero Hedge. In general, I tend to believe that things are far worse than we can possibly imagine, and much worse than what happened previously in Russia during the 20th Century!
He wasn't the first and won't be the last with great insight on human nature and politics, nor in coming up with an alternate political system. Jesus tried that and -- no disrespect, but -- how far did 'The Son of God' get, if you look at the world today? Or look at the 3rd and 4th generation of descendants of the great wealth builders.
The problem with all these political systems is that they try to make man into something he is not, rather than dealing with what he is. As such, a "Fair Market" (free market with a level playing field and basic rules of behavior) works reasonably well, but only to a point. Given human nature, eventually those "with means" will ensure that the rules are slowly tweaked more and more in their favor. All because those who could and should act as counter-balances (part of Checks & Balances) first get 'comfortable', then dumb, fat & lazy. Then the party's over. Start a new cycle.
As the laws of Nature keep unbalancing, diluting and recycling matter & energy, so it is with wealth. Wealth: the efforts & vanities of a few and enjoyed for a brief time.
Saw this coming since 2008. Am only surprised at the speed with which the masks are coming off and how closely the dolts still follow the same old 20th century template. McCarthy was correct 85% of the time he pointed his finger at someone in the hot seat and the commies never left.
Not a trend. It's a plan.
McCarthy was a fucking idiot.
Communism? You think we're heading toward communism? If everybodyere to be put on the same economic plane, then, yeah - we'd have communism.
But those who he incorrectly saw as being "communists" were, in fact, what he was - a fascist.
He couldn't see that, because HE WAS A FUCKING IDIOT.
2008?
This is a terrific idea, especially so that the Bamster is involved and he is expected to lead the effort. One of the biggest challenges to this project is the variety of interested parties that have a stake in its success: unions, environmentalists, financiers, the people, state and local governments, regulators, and of course the IRS.
Bam’s deep experience and great track record in bringing disparate and often embattled groups to the table and hammering out solutions that take everyone’s perspective into consideration will insure that this will be a rousing success. Look at the jobs council and what a great effort that was, unemployment is steadily declining and this has a lot to do with this group’s activities.
Who could oppose such an law?
sschu
I agree with you Mr. SSCHU, however, if you are not represnted at that table, I promise you that you will get no food for your children, no fertilizer and seed for your field, or gasolene for your tractor, parts for your combine, and no storage for your grain. (In fifty words or less, I can show you just how fucking dangerous Communism is).
If Obama doesn't like you he can do what Stalin did to the Ukraine (15 million dead due to Starvation).... just remember it was't personal, it was political.
And 5 year plans work so well in an electoral system based on a 4 year cycle.
I don't know Goering 4 year plan in 1936 worked well....
Of course the nazis sent speculators, bankers and stock "jobbers" to the concentration camp....the rest took care of itself....
I once saw his sword owned by a collecter, it was presented to Goering by Krupp in recognition of his 4-Year Plan.
Disclaimer: I'm not a weirdo, my concentration in undergrad was Russian-German relations.
Groovy, where are we sticking the blast furnaces and T-34 production lines?
Plans are a means they don't say anything about state "control" of the economy; they say something about setting targets and goals for government spending.
The analogy with Stalin is stretching it, the people's vote EXISTS in the USA as does a free press (here on the Net and also in MSM), as does people's free will to express themselves. Nobody had that under Stalin.
Don't belittle US institutions, just the current incumbents...
The Federal budget is what 3.6 T? And the deficit is 1.4T?
Well that's awesome. Its time to plan over 5 years to get that down. Its time the state became accountable in quantifiable terms over a longer timeframe.
The second biggest sector which is out of control, after the private banking sector including Shadow crap, is the government sector.
Its time for both the US government and private banks to come clean on their books and set themselves targets over 5 years which they should then keep. All of <EUro zone is involved in precisely that type of exercise; those who are honest and sincere; so why shouldn't the USA? Not saying the Euro zone is going to succeed without nationalising the banks...but that does not change the need for balanced state budgets.
Its the BEST way to getting the crap house cleaned and fair market economy restored with the right checks and balances. Maybe we will see some justice and accountability in that mindset!
MAKE this corrupt congress wake up before its too late...If the government doesn't change its ways bigtime the country will know regression like never before.
And the world with it. We can never give up trying via legal means and people's voice...the alternative is much worse!
If you look at the thread on JPM derivative plays you read this : CIO tripled the size of the SCP book, taking it from $51 billion to $157 billion, in a buying spree that was not motivated by decision-making on a “very long-term basis.”
Thats precisely what now HAS to be avoided!
simple solution : repeal the 14th amendment
4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.
the rest of it has been proven moot anyhow.
The obligatory store your gold overseas, move overseas speech. I'll pass.
Look at the Mexicans that have come to the US illegally just to make some money. Their government is so corrupt many of them chose to leave instead of staying in their country and changing it. They did not rid their country of the corruption, they did not improve their economy by demanding reforms and they did not fight against the violent people that are killing their fellow Mexican citizens.
Instead they took the easy was by swimming the river. Once on the other side they get public assistance and jobs where they send all their money back to the country they just left.
I look at them as cowardly men. Many people would argue with me. I'm not leaving the country I was born in because a bunch of douchbags decided to act in evil ways. Sooner or later it will come down to a fight. I'm not leaving.
Go to your llama al paca ranch in chile if you want to. Go wherever the heck you want to but I'm not leaving. The people running things should leave. They are the ones doing wrong not me so they can go.
Eventually Simon black you'll find that the planet ain't big enough for you and them so then where you gonna go to?
Tom Harkin is still alive?
Thomas Friedman -2010...if interviewed by me...
"You know, that's really what, what it's come down to."
Whats that Tommy?
"So I don't—I, I—I'm worried about this, it's why I have fantasized—don't get me wrong—but that what if we could just be China for a day?"
You mean a marriage of state & industry?
"I mean, just, just, just one day. You know, I mean, where we could actually, you know, authorize the right solutions, and I do think there is a sense of that, on, on everything from the economy to environment."
Catch your breath there Tommy, what are you reeeeeally saying and who do you mean by we?
"I don't want to be China for a second, OK, I want my democracy to work with the same authority, focus and stick-to-itiveness."
Kinda like, a forced-fed, elitist top-down, nanny-state New York Times columnist knows best kinda thingy?
"But right now we have a system that can only produce suboptimal solutions."
So, you're saying you don't really like common-man messy, everyone gets their say input via the democratic voting process or the notion of a republic based on the precedent of existing law?
(Blank stare from Tommy)
How the fuck is this guy still writing pieces on ZH?
Either leave the country already and don't come back, or, find some like-mind Americans and put the money where the mouth is. Either flee, or go low-tech guerrilla and fight, end of story.
I really think ZH should stop posting this Simon Black. That guy is a complete loser who prefered to flee than to stay still and try to build a better world. Let him go to hell. When SHTF local population will take care of him.
Black Crepe sells. It's a way for some to try and get your last buck before you jump off the bridge. It's like "Buy my book and subscribe to my newsletter and you too will be redeemed when the fireball hits."Preachers do it. Money runners do it. Doctors do it, tin siding salesmen do it. Politicians? Ha!

A Kildee Comeuppance? Or More Obama Aloofness?
By Jonathan Strong Posted at 6:57 p.m. on March 14
Michigan Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee has been in Congress for a little more than two months, and today the leader of the free world gave him a gentle ribbing about just how new he is to Capitol Hill.
At a closed-door meeting between President Barack Obama and House Democrats, Kildee introduced himself as a freshman, to which Obama said, “Wow, you’re really classing up the place then.”
Kildee then proceeded to ask what one person described as a somewhat “long-winded” question about the importance of creating jobs for his economically distraught district.
“I can tell you’re a freshman because you didn’t pay much attention to the State of the Union,” Obama joked. “I talked about that.”
Amid the resulting laughter, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra of California then offered to provide Kildee a printout of the speech.
Obama was referring to his $1 billion proposal for 15 manufacturing “innovation centers,” the details of which are still somewhat hazy.
Actually, though, the joke was on Obama: On Wednesday, Kildee had met with the White House legislative affairs team about the innovation centers proposal, so he was quite familiar with it.
And his question was broader, about what types of reforms are necessary to reform decaying urban centers like Flint, Mich., which Kildee represents.
“Dan wasn’t specifically talking about innovation centers in his question,” a spokesman said.
SIMON, WHERE TO, ANTARCTICA? THIS IS HAPPENING IN EVERY CIVILIZATION ON THE PLANET!
Today's liberals are just stupid. Really, really stupid.
Just like the conservatives who think things will be better if their guy is "running the show"... And those who still think in the liberal/conservative mindset are also stupid.
Pretty sure you can make assistant mgr at Mdonald's in 5 years.
Not sure about all the 'destroy mfg' talk.........that's already been done lol and now we have nursing home patients like GM.
Obama will also not be happy with robots nor 3D printers.
Collapes enroute. There's no fucking way this hellhole is going to transition to whatever bullshit utopia these assclowns envision without exploding in everyone's faces.
Guess this means that Krugman gets a promotion.
KRUGMAN!!!!!!!!!
I agree: the combination of upper income tax cuts, massive military spending increases, financial degulation and free trade agreements that we adopted from the early '80s has been working so brilliantly, why change anything!
You left out the epidemic of parasites killing the host
Heh Sovereign Bagman, I guess that you forgot about China having 5 year plans… didn’t seem to hurt them much…
http://www.kpmg.com/cn/en/issuesandinsights/articlespublications/publicationseries/5-years-plan/pages/default.aspx
Would somebody please halt this man’s drivel…
A. THEY ARE NOT F'n ELITE... if you think so, then you have never met one.
They are simply parasites.
I prefer the term 'pimples on the ass of society'.
Hey, cool. We are going to pretend to work and they are going to pretend to pay us. Cradle to grave Nirvana.
On those PM's there Simon, instead of losing them in a foreign bank, is it OK to lose some on the National Wildlife Refuge, where there are no metal detectors or back hoes freaking out the ducks? I mean, it's safe for them and the salamanders. And kinda hard to get a permit to run a D-9 dozer through? Tippy Canoes can go there though.

Never mind that the President has zero experience in business or manufacturing.
Not true! Just look at the wonderful work his administration has done promoting solar cell and electric car manufacturing.
The Catholic empire thanks all Americans for generously encouraging their takeover, sponsoring their invasion and kindly reducing their population in advance. Its not that there are too many people, or not enough resources, there are just too many of you.
God bless
Supreme Commander Francis
And thank you also for surrendering that silly constitution. Our representatives convinced you that you can't manage your own affairs. And the guns too.

A dozen more 'free trade' agreements ought to complete the gutting of manufacturing in the land of the brave.
Relax everyone: Harkin plan is to have plan in 5 years.
This would be about the same time as the Federal Budget is introduced.
How long until those on welfare get told to report to work camps for the greater good?
The economist Ludwig von Mises showed in 1920 [1,2] that since a socialist economy destroys price information via government intrusion, the myriad of participants in the economy are unable to make a fully rational calculation about true profit and loss. Any economic activity that operates at a loss cannot be “sustainable”, a concept the left loves to scold us about, yet cannot really grasp.
Taking another approach, the Nobel economist F.A. Hayek showed that a national economy had such an immense myriad of dynamic economic relationships that no single committee or bureaucracy, no matter how smart or how well staffed, could possibly know enough to direct prices or production levels. His Nobel Lecture [3] was entitled The Pretence of Knowledge. Hayek had previously used this idea as the basis for a very thorough article [4] on the subject, “The Use of Knowledge in Society.”
When these two different withering critiques of socialism are combined, it is easy to see that not only is it dangrously foolish to think that economic decisions can successfully be made by government, but that competing bureaucracies will invariably react to the consequences of intrusions in the marketplace by each other. It would be like trying to control the height of waves on a lake by measuring them from the back of a boat circling in its own wake.
Socialism is also morally bankrupt, for it demands we accept the premise that we can each live at the expense of others, despite how this violates the Commandments that forbid coveting and theft.

Yeah, proLiberty, the triumph of lies, backed by violence, works all too well in the short-term, and then worse and worse in the longer term. The issue is where is one in that process? As with exponential growth, it may be great at the beginning, but then very quickly gets very bad nearer the ending.
The practical problem is that there is almost nothing effective that one can do to stop energy from finding and going down the local path of least resistance, which in human terms means the path of least morality. Those who immediately profit from fraud and force become more wealthy and powerful, and so, even more able to do more force backed frauds. The eventual consequences make no difference. They can and do ignore those things, while they can and do use violence to back up their frauds, which continue to work well for them in each short-term increment.
Evolution appears to need a lot of time to push through many, many cycles of boom and bust, to gradually select for the survivors who develop systems of resistance which have internalized natural selection in ways that make them become more intelligent, and therefore, able to imagine and care about the longer term consequences of their actions.
However, right now we are still in the runaway rush of triumphant force backed frauds, being used to strip-mine planet Earth as fast as possible. As far as I can tell, we are not going to learn anything, except the hard way, about that having been not so good a thing to do. Right now, everybody is indulging in the strip-mining of the planet, financed with a fundamentally fraudulent accounting system.
I agree with the basic ideas that we should have systems that enable a greater use of information, and higher consciousness. However, the systems we actually have are legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, which have benefitted those who did that so much that there are no practical ways to stop them.
The international bankers have become trillionaire mass murderers. They were behind the history that drove Russia through its revolutions, which ended up in genocidal events. Those banksters have taken control over America, and they appear to have similar plans for the American people as those banksters did for the Russian people.
On five year plans...
"There’s no need to panic; rather, it’s important to take measured, rational action."
At any given time within our current environment it is entirely sensible to get angry and pissed off and decide your not going to take it any more.
At this point you may either panic, decide it is important to take some measured action. Pray to the diety of your choice, explode yourself in a public display of chemical knowledge for the God of your programming, knowing eternal bliss awaits your destruction.
Yea that's the way to go. Gold and Silver will save you!
Perhaps you will decide there is no rational action based on how it is cast.
As creator beings, we have inherited the ability to adapt and shape our future.
The foundation is our stepping stone.
Each of us must make the decision how to architect the future.
Or not, many cannot think this way.
In the big scheme of things we are small, but have a say so in requirements.
In the absence of good leadership and accountabilty.
It is up to those of us to step up and provide a view for people to move through chaos.
Or not.
That is what I feel, and how I act.
What about you?
We are in the middle of a storm, where there are few known safe harbors. My five year plan is to be here in five years to see what happens. We are blessed to live in interesting times. It’s got my attention. What we are experiencing is purposeful.
if it is broken, fuck it,
if it is not broken, fix it !

Each and every time I see "store your precious metals overseas" I think this must be a US.Gov or something author.
"A bird in the hand is worth ten in the bush" comes to mind.
i'm not leaving the fucking country.
there will be another way.
Yup. What's in a place. Name of the game is to outlast the bastards. When Big "o" is out of there and on the gov college lecture circuit explaining to students that he didn't build that, we'll have a brand new punching bag in the Oval Orifice. Until websites like this go dark, we'll have options.
go dark, go light go here go there,
there are always options. talk to people
about the truth. their eyes open, look around,
then everything changes. it is a dynamic process
this life.
Actually, the Soviet Union with its central planning is probably the reason we're not all speaking German. Their central planning mentality allowed the Russians to unbolt their manufacturing facilities, put them on railroad cars and move them eastward out of reach of the advancing Germans and put them back together again. The ability of the Soviet economy which was nearly totally dedicated to production of war materials to produce prodigious amounts of fighting equipment was the primary reason they were able to defeat Hitler. Yeah, I know, it's a funny world when central planning actually saved it....
And where the fuck are they now? Non existent. Funny how these "centrally planned" states are becoming more like us as we become more like them. They are advancing and we are declining. Now why is that?
How we may judge their accomplishment and world status is tied directly to definitions of the aspects of your question. "
"And where the fuck are they now? Non existent. Funny how these "centrally planned" states are becoming more like us as we become more like them. They are advancing and we are declining. Now why is that?"
Their children are by world measures of literacy far above the USA, quadratic equations in algebra, lots of them know how to resolve and apply that to reality.
What about you and yours>
Like the sill set of your local young people.?
Food stamps are good. cideo games... Ahh.
Yep, right smart way to validate your beliefe systems.
Long live the flag you wave.
I speak of centrally planned government. You speak of education(centrally planned). Thank you for proving my point. As for me and mine, we are fine. I can't save the world, but I can help my family and knowledge is power.
You don't think China is centrally-planned ? Asia is just spontaneously whipsawing the Americans without any planning involved ?
A rational argument on evolution of patterns and how we come to be where we are.

Stalin speech - November 7, 1941
I am truly amazed any more when I meet anyone with true leadership skills. We used to think about fixing problems but now we ask each other about how we "feel" about things. Feelings don't fix problems, actions do. I think the time for fixing things in this society cooly and calmly have long passed. The school yard bully only understands one thing and it isn't hugs or sensitivity training. I am pushing 60 it is my grandchildren I am thinking of now. I will make my stand here amongst my neighbors and I will deal with the consequences of my actions when they come like I have held myself accountable all my life. My kids and grandkids will stand for what they believe in as well and at the other end of this era in the grand experiment called America the history books will reflect some very interesting times for the early 21st century in world history. Know what you stand for and know who stands with you and know it well. It doesn't take a village it takes backbone and hard work and if the village agrees with how you think, all the better. The rule of law is broken and the waking to that truth is rising and the consequences will soon follow, hold on tight, aim small miss small.
Thanks for sharing your feelings.
It just keeps on getting better and better. Found this, and the author seems like he's being honest. The author posts under the name of 'Ohio Frontiersmen' in the comments section of this article:

5-yuear planning and a hot domestic war. Nice....
To be fair it did work for Stalin. He was in a position to plan for a European War after the defeat of 1920. Using Slave Labour he built a manufacturing base of heavy industry using US suppliers like Ford and was able to turn out T-34 tanks aplenty and to overwhelm the Wehrmacht with men and materiel.
His 5 year plan is to submit a budget in 5 years. This plan will be revised every year to push the date out another 5 years.
Mao had several 5 year plans, no?
Obviously, they all worked, just like Gene Sperling's...
You can't learn EVERYTHING from history. Today we have structural unemployment, and robotics complicates things further by eliminating more jobs. If you think the old ways will continue to work in this future, you have blinders on. I'm glad that somebody in our legislature is trying to figure out a way to produce jobs other than lowering taxes on the rich and expecting the piss to trickle down.
As far as Obama goes, he showed in his first term that a creeping police state is on his agenda and he hasn't changed his tune.
When you are right.......you are right. +1
Do ya think they will leave zh up and running ??????
It's all very well pooh-poohing this guy, but as Dr McCoy said to Mr Spock, when Captin Kirk was drifting out in space unconscious his oxygen running out...
"Spock... do SOMETHING?!"
Watch the first season of the original version of Star Trek. Gene Rodenberry saw all this coming... Back in 1969. At the age of about 9 I didn't understand it as I do today, but Rodenberry tryed to warn us of what was comming.
Someone has got to try SOMETHING!
What if that "comprehensive national manufacturing strategy" was to cut taxes on manufacturers? Still communism? What if it included cutting taxes on manufacturers? You need to do more than just repost internet blab here.
There is another parallel, a very gruesome one.
I visited East Europe during the 1990 several times a year for business reasons. Out of curiosity I asked one day a Lithuanian Professor who had survived the Stalin terror years. I told him, that I heard a lot of Stalin and his terror regime but that I did not know much about the Stalins methods to terrorize a whole country with relative little input of manpower and resources.
His answer: It was quite primitive. I lived in a small village and each and every night at exacatly 3:30 am a loud roaring truck drove through all the streets. Sometimes this truck stopped for a moment the engine went off, started again and sometimes armed men went down from the truck, entered a house, pulled a person out of his home and he was never heard of again. Appx twice a year somebody disappeared like this and nobody knew why. It was at random according to him. He said, that each night the whole village interrupted their sleep at exactly the same time and all inhabitants were fearing for their lives each night. This happened in the whole country more or less in the same way.
Imagine what this means. The whole population was deprived from a good sleep through years. Plus the fear from torture and death each night. This is cheap and effective first grade psycho-terror for a whole country. Not long all the energy to resist is fading, simple because the body and mind is getting chronical sick. One is not dying instantly as long as one has still mental reserves but this is a serious attack on a whole population and is aimed to kill the "will-power". Over time there are not many persons left which are still able to resisist under such permanent psycho stress and death threat.
And what is the parallel I mentioned in the beginning. In short words, imagine you hear each and every night roaring drones flying over your village. Sometimes it hits a house because it might harbour persons involved in the resistance against the occupying forces or not. It doesnt matter, important is that the population is terrorized and weakened. Add to this the so called night raids, kicking in doors and pull people out of their homes to fill such gruesome places as Abu Ghraib prison and others often secret places. Add to this the promoting of the use of heroin and opium to further destabilze the country. ( Under US/UK occupation Afghanistan became the top producer of opia.) For sure its cheap and ubiquitous now, while it was forbidden to grow by death penalty before the occupation.
That makes all a lot of sense to me. Terrorize the population till they need the relief for their tortured minds. The opia is the only way to get some relief but it erodes further the capability of the whole country to resist against the occupants.
All in all it can be stated. Stalins proven methods do work still today and they work even better and are cheaper thanks to the new technolgy of the remote controlled teror and killing machines called drones.
Gees, just think what God could to the world with that kind of power. I want to hear the banjo band a playin at my funeral.
supermaxed...it also works in reverse on those in power, think about it.
Dont think so. These kind of people are hard boiled. They pile crime on crime and forget about it the next day. These people are psychopaths and while they are telling lies they believe it in this moment. Thats why they look so authentic when acting in the public. They smoothly switch perfectly their personality appearance to what ever is needed at the moment. They live in their own world and they can live quite good with danger. They do not ignore it while they are not to much negatively affected by it. They are control freaks and as long as the have the feeling they are in control then they feel excellent. Signing an execution order while lighting a cigarette after breakfast. Thats a great feeling. A good start of the day.
Is there a McDonalds at Checkpoint Charlie's?
Can you see yourself in sunny old Mexico with a very heavy knap-sack surrounded by sullen looking indians? The UP of Michigan seems a better bet. A few hundred pounds of salt, some deer snares and maybe a dentist buddy with his travel kit. A couple naturaly lubricious eastern european women would top things off nicely. Plenty of empty hunting shacks owned by law practices in places like Chicago and Detroit............
I can't. But perhaps you can.
Where are all these totalitarians coming from?
That a little bit strange or maybe all to obvious. I wrote that to my blog-readers some years ago. If you stick to whatever country you're in currently, you are nothing but a victim. I don't know if it really will help, but it's at least a better chance then just "hope for the best". The problem is that everything we once knew, was more or less abolished within the last three to five years. Bailouts, system relevant banks, you name it.
So I think Tyler is fully right here. Prepare for getting away if it's getting much worse, it'll be too late once you really have to go.
So you are reommending we go to another country and be victimized there? Yeah, that will work out nicely. Please give us a list of countries where we can go hide out and be "safe".
The list get's shorter by the day. But here we go Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand maybe some other countries in south america.
What are the chances that Simon Black read about any of the following before writing this pieceof garbage:
1. R&D funding by gov't vs. private funding (by sector)
2. Success at commercialization of bench research service (several ways to measure this including new companies & job, patents, etc)
3. Policies of other countries compared to the U.S.
This is another op-ed writer who should be pulled from this site along with Brandon Smith. You almost never get a single fact/insight from one of Simon Black's op-eds and the same about his various news products. Same kind of crap that Tom Friedman puts out only with more of a financially-oriented slate.
Give Black credit though for getting paid to travel around the world & live it up on other people's dimes. That's not an easy hustle.
Who is this Simon Black and why is he constantly urging us to move our PM's to some "safe storage" (make me fucking laugh) location OUTSIDE of our home country?
I smell a very large and dirty rat.
I invest in Latin American drug cartels and whore houses.
Great returns and better transparency.
I love this line, everyone likes to spit it out.. Own precious metals, preferably stored overseas....
Really?? Let me work this out..
Sorry for being sarcastic, but America is still one of the more free places to live, and some states are really standing up for themselves, Texas, Utah and others. Infact, silver and gold are now allowable currency in UT. And I can still own firearms here, in most places you can't so you are forever beholden to both criminals and the gov't. I agree, they are spying on us more and more, I don't dispute that, but if you live in a good area of the country.. you have a better chance when the SHTF..
I live in PA, I voted in Novemeber, to no avail, and as I just told my parents I am not voting with my feet.. I will be living on a farm somewhere in rural Texas before the end of Spring.
