A short trip across the sea from the debacle occurring in Cyprus and it appears the tension is rising up in Greece once again. It is well known that Golden Dawn 'nazi' party won a surprising and disconcerting number of parliamentary seats at the last election, and the massively unstable size of Greece's youth unemployment continues to spell trouble; but, now Greece's most popular sport - soccer (football) - is infected by the increasingly nationalist fervor. As Fox reports, national soccer player Giorgos Katidis has been banned for life from playing for Greece after giving a Nazi salute while celebrating a goal this weekend. Cited as "a deep insult to all victims of Nazi brutality," the striker took to twitter (@GiwrgosKatidis) to proclaim his innocence of the meaning of the gesture (you decide in the image and clip below) - right arm extended and hand straightened - adding that he detests fascism. The question now is - when does the Cyprus soccer team play next? as it seems the peripheral European nations are starting to wake up to the Union's reality and the haircut is the next catalyst.
Accident? Ignorance? Or a simmering nationalist fervor?

I would think he was giving the nazi salute. Notice in the film clip how he was running and then when he got to the section of the crowd he wanted to be in front of he tried to stop running.
Anyone knows you don't run around when you try to salute. Ever see anyone running around giving a " regular army type" salute? No you alway stop and stand at attention. That was what he was trying to do before he was swarmed by his teammates. He was attempting to stop and give a proper military salute. He got the hand and arm motion all down pat.
The big question would be- who was in that section of the stadium crowd that he ran over to and attempted to salute? Was it the golden dawn party member season ticket section? Was it his 1st grade teacher? Was it his mom?
The real question is: Why in the 21st Century is it anybody's business how a person chooses to wave to their fan base?
Just imagine if he scratched his armpit or gave a one finger salute. The horror!

this is a roman salute then often used by numerous patriotic (called by jews 'nationalitsic') movements including most of Eastern Europe countries between WW for instance...
The same salute was used by American school children before Hitler...then it became somewhat less popular for some reason...lol.
