The Sun Just Set On The German Empire In Cyprus As Locals Tear Down German Flag

Tyler Durden's picture

While images of burning flags in the middle-east are not unusual and we have become numb to visions of angry mobs stomping over Western flags, the sight in the clip below of the typically calm and serene Mediterraneans turned Cypriot mob climbing atop the German Embassy in Cyprus and tearing down the German flag may well be a glimpse of what is to come in the next few days as the government nears their voting deadline and banks near their re-opening...

Via ekathimerini,

Protesters took down the flag at the German embassy

Many people have gathered outside the presidential palace, in which a protest on the agreement between the government and the haircut Eurogroup for deposits.

Protesters hold banners and shout slogans against the Troika and the Memorandum. Earlier, demonstrators portion en route to the Presidential Palace, went to the German Embassy.

Protester climbed on the roof of the building pulled down the German flag from the mast and threw it on the road. The other protesters tried to get the flag, but police who were lined outside the embassy and collected. The police presence in the area is important, but discreet.

If I was German, not sure I would be offended if Cyprus did not want my bailout money on my terms.  Cyprus is free to apply elesewhere if they like or ramp up depositor haircuts to say 30% or just plain default.

This stuff is not too hard to figure out.....unless you are a politician who needs to be re-elected (no other means of earnings) and needs to avoid painful market clearing corrections at all costs.  But both of those "needs" are self inflicted.

Ah, we Germans are the silly scapegoat again, for each and everything, guilty for eternity, great!

We should just let them rot in their fraudulent scheming, in their debt and their offshore misery and leave them alone, in every financial and touristic aspect. Maybe the Turks would like to take over the whole isalnd and tidy up the place, who cares.

Cypress held out against the Germans in WWII. History may not repeat itself, but it does like to rhyme. Will they hold out against the Germans in 2013?

Dear Cyprus,

I think Shane MacGowan sang it best:

"When the Angel of Death - comes a-lookin' for you

Can you honestly say - that you have been true

For you must go away - all by yourself

God just sent down - the Angel of Death."

I am glad to see that the young people in Cyprus are athletic. About the flag? Oh come on. I couldn't care less. If it helps them. There is justified anger out there. I don't doubt that. And maybe such a small act will help to release some frustration. American readers know what I mean. After all they've seen their flag being burned all the time. As long as it is just a flag and not a human being.

Spare a thought for the German taxpayer. the average person paying their taxes. They also have watched their hard earned taxes squandered by their power motivated politicians seeking to prop up their own dreams and visions at the taxpayer expense instead of seeing it invested in their own country. They don't dream of a new German empire.

Now don't be just peasant in a chess game. Sure a German is always a good scapegoat. And I won't deny that we haven't done any mistakes or have been disrespectful to the Greek people. Just don't be a peasant. That's all I ask from you. After all - you have to ask the very same questions to yourself: How could it come to this? Who is responsible? Here in your country. Get those people. Don't kill them. Don't hang them.  Let them be judged by the people, in front of the people and if they are found to be guilty, than throw them into jail. Freeze their accounts if they've stolen money or cheated the average taxpayer. Let them be an example. And punish not only the person, but also the company behind that person. Otherwise this "game" will start anew.
