Nine Pollution Picture Perfect Days In Beijing
While one night in Bangkok is enough for most, the following images (via Reuters) taken over nine days in Tiananmen Square, Beijing should highlight just how appalling the smog situation is in that country. As we discussed recently, this is more than a major problem for health, the reforms that the government proclaims means significant shifts in the economy (to say nothing of the increasing appeals for clean water and purchased clean air).

Its only pollution if you live there
Plus corporate profits are at all time highs anyways... haven't you bitchez seen the Dow Jones?
What this pollution needs is more growth. Growth is the fix. If you REALLY want to put this whole thing back together growth is the answer. What we need are politicians, from either side of the aisle, to come together and figure out a looooooooong term plan for consistent growth.... put aside their differences, and GROW our way out of this...
The quickest way to job growth is to make more stuff with shorter life-spans and provide these services and products to all people through government subsidy and heavy taxes on the 5 corporations left who will make everything.
What you see here isn't pollution. It's progress. These are proud to be human moments caught on film.
Bernanke? Krugman?
No, I'm that thought many here refuse to face. The fix won't come from within the system. The problems are bigger than sound "money." Writing your congressman won't solve anything.
AS IF Maxine Waters "Mr. Bernanke told me low interest rates are so po people have access......." is gonna help you.
What you see in these pictures is Profit at ANY cost regardless of consequence. That's it. Otherwise it wouldn't look like that.
Say this in your head bitchez while you bitch about clean water...
"Product Sustainability is INVERSE to Economic Growth"
say that again...
+1 Free barbiturates will solve a lot of issues.
slaves dont need fresh air.
Or they pay to get a can of "clean" (read: nothin) air.
I know of no way to convey the glue smell of the Chinese hotel rooms built in the early 2000s. One must experience it.
Oh, I don't know...
I think China is lovely. I can think of nothing more serene than the sight of a lazy river with dead pigs floating by...
Capitalist pigs.

The just haven't gotten the smoke vs. mirrors ratio quite right yet.

Worth repeating as many times as needed to accomplish a permanent imprint.
Oh, oh, and raising the debt ceiling! That should fix some spending and junk...
Other see pollution, Charlie sees one word: 'winning!'
They grow the pollution in the U.S. with all the chemtrails. Our cities look the same and our skies are definitely polluted due to all the chemtrails they spray. They produce lots of jobs for pilots to poison the air.
+ 100 tickhound the sarc on that was pure
How about a tour beneath T'square. Rumor has it the chinese massive gold hoard is right there.
Time to trot out the last emperor and have him tour the vaults. Or have a mummified Mao Zedong stroll past them tungsten bars.
hmm-ever fly into LA?
My thought as well. The air in Beijing doesn't bother me as much as LA. One is a kind of sweet smell from outdated coal plants; the other is the plain old rotten smog we grew up with. There's a program to decommission or upgrade a bunch of the old plants, status unknown.
I was in Pittsburgh before there was an EPA. Sulfur dioxide does not smell sweet.
When I traveled to Beijng 10 years ago I was invited into private homes. What they were burning for heat and cooking was compressed coal dust. What yummie smoke came out of that dust. Milestones
Worst air in the USA is Salt lake city, and the Wasatch front. LA got nothing on us.
But you don't have to worry getting attacked while walking down the street. So there's that.
DASSS RAYCISSSS D000000D. Da truuuf hoits.
Yes. Beijing is worse. It smells of the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons (in LA the gross thing is how much of the pollution is aerosol beef grease - seriously, look it up yourself). I remember that smell growing up before catalytic converters. In the national museum in the square there you can even see the opacity of the air looking across the main entrance hall.
Wow. When were you there? Must have been many years ago.
Money Squid,
We all live in this microcosm called Earth you f&*^% retard.

chance of smog Tuesday through next year.
No, it's smog. My daughter went to Beijing as a student ambassador in 2004 and all the pictures she took look like they were shot with a yellow-gray filter over the lens. She said the air looked, smelled and tasted awful. The only time the air is clean in Beijing is when a strong wind is blowing the pollution somewhere else.
No, it's CLIMATE.

Every one said if China developed like the West it would be a pollution catastrophe - check.
I think the 6000 dead pigs floating down river was a pretty good confirmation of that hypothesis.

Beijing is prone to dust storms from mongolia. The same dust looked like forest fire smoke in april 2000 in Yukon Canada.
