Pictures From A Cyprus ATM Line
For a few days, the people of Cyprus were calm, quietly and orderly accepting the unreality of the levy being imposed upon them - incredulous that it was even possible. As we reach the 4th day of bank closures, amid rolling rumors and ECB threats, it appears the people have reached a tipping point as this series of images from Cyprus ATM lines indicates - the bank-jog has arrived. When will it become a full blown sprint?
It appears the catalyst for this latest move is the ECB threat and EU concerns over the future of the two biggest insolvent banks: As AFP reports: EU calls on Cyprus to set capital controls and merge 2 biggest banks Laiki and Bank of Cyprus.

Thanks Samuel, I just spent the last 20 minutes looking at Bikinis, starting with separates, boyshorts, and finally Brazilian!
I buy all my Bitchez the Micro-B for when we go to da clubs.
So you like beers from small brewerys?
my dad likes those minis, or micro, or whatever.... you must be old

Kinda sad when the year 2000 is considered "old school".
I used to restore scary military vehicles and would always remind fearful onlookers that Dozers could do sooo much more damage than a Jeep or Humvee. Even tanks are just tracked boxes without the ammo...and nobody gets the ammo ...(except our Government).
When will it become a full blown sprint?
In about fifteen minutes..
They wait in line for 2 hours to find out there is only a $20 withdraw limit. lol
they are betting on the tournament

Signed.
Cyprus was totally off my economic radar screen, but you are damn right MDB, keep it postive.
Kind Regards,
Dr. Paul Krugman.
Speaking of "keep it positive", this looks like it could be any US city. With the exception of some very liberal/socialist parts of Chicago or Detroit. ;-)
I kinda wanted to punch you after reading that. Nothing personal, just a reflex I've developed.
In other words, he wins with you every time you read him.
You could choose not to be so gullible ya know, and just ignore him.
But hey, takes all kinds, I guess.
With the banks being closed, is it giving them more time to also sift through Safety Deposit boxes?
I don't get it...why does the bank have to close? Is there no money left to loan out? Do banks not have Safe Deposit boxes? Do they not have commercial customers who need to deposit cash after a day of business? Is the entire economy hoarding fiat?
Is this what the ECB fears? There just isn't enough fiat to support this type of activity, and they are refusing to send more cash to Cypress to fuel the withdrawl.
1983: Soviets wait in line for toilet paper
2013: Cypriots wait in line for Euros
Distinction without a difference?
There IS a difference. Toilet paper has intrinsic value
I would not want to use Euros to wipe anything clean, not to mention the rear. Think of all the dirty hands that have touched those notes. With toilet paper, I know that I am starting with a clean piece of paper.
The euros are softer yet do not disintegrate in your hands.
Yeah, and it was tough toilet paper .... kraft paper with chips and splinters .... ouch !
I must admit, when I first heard about this Cyprus shit, I left a deposit on the sidewalk... toilet paper please.
+ 100 for the username!!!
MDB is in line trying to deposit Euros .... as a symbolic vote of confidence .... that's the kind of counter intuitive intelligence .... that he shares with us here !
Pladizow, how was it in Cyprus? you are in some of the pictures. I like the group photo #5 in the street there. Imagine how your old picture would have looked in those photos. :)
They must have not got the memo, banks open on Tuesday! Now back to work!
It reminds me of the gas lines by me after "Sandy". Eerily so. The only difference by me was the sense of knowing it was only temporary, and even then people were freaked out. Those people look calm, playing on cell phones etc. I can't imagine how they must really feel.
Looks mild compared to the Walmart "Black Friday" stampedes for TV sets and toys.
The sunny weather is a potent stress inhibitor.
For as brainwashed and dependent as most Americans are, I think a large number know deep down that the government can't really swoop in to save us. That's why there was panic during Sandy, even if people knew it was only temporary. They'd seen how the government responded to Katrina.
I don't think the same mentality exists in Europe anymore. These people don't look calm to me; they look complacent. Does anyone think Americans would be in neat little lines if the government had threatened to steal their savings? These folks in Cyprus may be angry, and they certainly showed they were a few days ago, but right now it seems they still trust government to save the day.
They'll likely be disappointed.
To quote a great man, "Calm as Hindu cows."
Trick question. Most Americans have no savings.
What firearm restrictions does Cyprus have?
The Bread and Circuses must continue. There's no wrath like that of an "entitled" when he's been "transaction denied." Same with registered system compliant voters. Besides, we wouldn't want to traumatize Leviathan, would we?
Aside, if the Debit cards work at the Cash Rationing machines, they most likely work at the point of sale, No? Otherwise, those lines would be 20 blocks long, I would think.
Next machinations expected from on high? The virtues of e-money. The planners don't want us contracting diseases from handling filthy lucre, or some such "Greater Good" jive. And they like what they see with this bit coin drama, it's just that they know they could do it better. A new 100 amp Benny Bit Coin generator for the Fed. Benny Bit's for all.
Wait. Stop. You mean to tell me the ATM machines were'nt drained DAYS AGO?!?!? They should have been empty by Sunday night, Monday morning at the latest.
WTF, Cyprus? Was the hint not obvious enough last Sunday what they had in store for your money? Maybe you do need a haircut. Sheep need to be shorn from time to time.
They were drained, the banks injected liquidity back into the ATMS then lowered the withdrawl limits.
My guess is the smart people are lining up after midnight to get the max out before the rest show up.
Well, OK then. Couldn't figure out how the ATMs got filled back up if the banks were closed.
the front door was closed dimkof.. the back rooms were alive with atm stuffers
Sounds like there are people at the bank, the customers are just not allowed inside.
Every time I see the phrase "injected liquidity", I feel like I need a good cry in the shower.
Awesome and perfect choice, Dr Head.

Love the reference. Many here too old to know it. And probably would write it off as noise.
That's because they know Larry Motherfucking FINK is long ATM's
I guess, they just need some cash to BTFD.
BANKSTERS ARE THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL
They are literally imploding the Cypriot economy.
On the upside, if the economy shrinks, say, 90% all at once, they will be almost gauranteed to have green quarters for years to come.
The Cyprus ATMs should be spitting out only iPad minis pretty soon.
Fluoride in the water
Say you were smart and stashed some cash just for such an emergency. Opportunity knocks, what would you trade with the sheep for some of your cash?
gold! for sure.
How about a straving. smug, arrogant d-bag, who drives a Boxter with a vanity plate selling me the car for 10 euros? While he's eating his bread and wondering what happened, I'll be touring the cypriot coast in my new car.
