Pictures From A Cyprus ATM Line
For a few days, the people of Cyprus were calm, quietly and orderly accepting the unreality of the levy being imposed upon them - incredulous that it was even possible. As we reach the 4th day of bank closures, amid rolling rumors and ECB threats, it appears the people have reached a tipping point as this series of images from Cyprus ATM lines indicates - the bank-jog has arrived. When will it become a full blown sprint?
It appears the catalyst for this latest move is the ECB threat and EU concerns over the future of the two biggest insolvent banks: As AFP reports: EU calls on Cyprus to set capital controls and merge 2 biggest banks Laiki and Bank of Cyprus.

This is probably the creeping nihilism/general existential crisis talking, but I would spend 100% of that on heavily discounted pussy. Apologies to the ladyfolk here for that remark.
wow, over at Shitco they have a couple hit pieces/predictions on gold going way down by years end from Societe General & Barclays. The fucking bankers are freaking out & spreading whatever propaganda they can.

Thinking through just how deep a depression we would have to be in for the cash price of physical gold to go under $1400. I'd actually be 100% in favor of this, because that would mean real pricing for assets making a comeback.
Soon to be in Amerika with Amerika's muslim. Come on Democrat O loving CS'ers junk me!
Looking at the photos - knowing that these people are standing in line awaiting economic death - couldn't help but remind me of two other iconic pictures:
1) The Eloi of "The Time Machine," trance-walking into the underground covens of those who provided them with food and material possessions - in exchange for their lives.
2) The Jews lined up to enter the gas chambers. Calm, without fight or other resistence, being led to their death.
So much is wrtitten about the "sheeple" - and with it amazement that they exist at all. Tell me, are not humans throughout all time ovewhelmingly sheeple? When presented without any other alternative action that they can effectively take to save themselves, do they not merely accept their death much as the last hours of a cancer victim?
ZH is presenting, in near-real time, history like none of us have ever seen it before. The images are replays of those we have seen over and over - but every time believing they can never be us.
It is this failure to accept the humanity of ourselves, and the ability of humans to know their fate and resist it not - that is the most chilling aspect of ZH's coverage.
There but for the Grace of God . . . ?
Or a mirror of ourselves, as we will be . . . unless we find a way to create an alternative power base to confront, and defeat, the evil in our midst?
-30-
????
hofjuden? the evil in our finances? the evil fraudsters of the fractional reserve central banking?
My vote for the best 'alternative power base' goes to the guy who pulled up his bulldozer to the bank steps on Saturday. (See ZH story that day)
Wise words Mars
The sheep metaphor is a metaphor for blind trust, but not all trust is bad. A high trust society is more efficient than a low trust society.
"If you see a line in front of your bank, you better get in it," El Erian of PIMCO said.
"It's time to strive forward like lions among the jackals but all I hear is the Baa Baa Bleating of sheep" forgot who said that.
Looks like the "ammo teller machines" in my neighborhood....if only they actually had anything in them...
No violence in the lines.......yet.
Wonder how well stocked the food shelves are?
Long cigs and booze!
At least it looks like Kangarucci is still open. Anyone know WTF that is?

Sounds like Kangarucci is outta business by the end of the day.

The sign "You Need ... We give" must be for something else.
When shit goes south you don't take it out on the person next to you in the same situation. Not in the beginning anyways. That happens as the resources get tighter and the desperation increases. Everyone here can bag on it all they want but in this type of situation that is where things like bitcoin really shine since they help mitigate the disruption and in turn decrease the odds of outright social rebellion.
you forgot " /sarc"off after your bitcoin bullshit
You can't go violent on a machine. Now if a person sitting behind the counter tells you "NO, sir, you cannot withdraw more than 100 euros today to pay your kid's hospital expenses" you may be tempted to go look for your bulldozer.
Sure you can. Saw a soft looking dude go postal on a vending machine because it failed to despense his sugar fix.
Soup lines of the great depression are replaced by ATM lines for the greatest depression...
We have soup lines now they just hide them better. It is called walmart. Before they changed how they charge the money to the ebt card accounts, you used to see them right around midnight when the money would go into all the ebt card accounts simultanously.
Speaking of LongSoupLines...

How to create a Bank Run by arrogant Eurocrats: A lesson in Stupidity.
"Gone!" is the new "Fire!" in the banking theater.
Good morning Iridium Rebel, long time no see. It is starting to get exciting, but I wouldn't call this a lesson in stupidity.
Since this is an orchestrated, and preplanned collapse, the trigger has just been pulled.
I would expect this to start spreading like wildfire next week.
I hope you are prepared for what is about to unfold.
This will be here in the good old USA next month.
These banks will never reopen.
Silly Tyler. Those aren't ATM lines.
<They're just waiting to buy the fucking (fiat) dip bro.>
Save your ATM receipt for a free Spiderman towel when we reopen.
Very snide today. Compassion fatigue?
I must admit that the warnings and writings have been in the face of anyone who has trust in the fiat currency. Idiots like me have been screaming from the mountain tops that their "savings" in paper is a farce, a ponzi even. Fuck em.
While I have genuine empathy for the Cypriots I don't feel terribly bad for them. They have known for some time now that their banking system was in real trouble. The vast majority of them decided to close their eyes and not prepare. Now they are paying the price.
The same applies to mainland European's as well as here in the USA. This will not end well. We know this. There is no excuse for not doing every little bit we can to prepare in whatever way we can. This includes stocking up on Gold, Guns and Butter as well as keeping as little cash as possible in the banking system.
Deep hard pain is coming. We as individuals and as a society will be measured by how well (or not) we are prepared for the inevitable.
they are civilized people.
If the crowds are in the thousdands will they still wait in que?!
The next few days will tell, so far it's pathetic
From what I have been reading the local bank(s) have been able to keep the ATMs loaded with cash up to this point from their vaults. So if someone needs some cash up to their daily limit it has been available. This has helped dispel the raw panic that must be welling up in their throats.
We shall see how orderly things are when the ATMs no longer spit out what amounts to chump change.
<I have not seen any articles yet about silver or gold (or barter) being used by the Cyperiot locals. I wonder why?>
Or the black market.
They are prying open the barn door, after the horses already left.
There are no more horses unless you're eating the meatballs at the Ikea store...
I call dibs on the blinders.
Jesus, calm like sheep. WTF
It shows that unlike the bankers and the euro-cum stained technocrats who run Cyprus, that the people are actually civilized and can be cordial about the situation.
Although, they are dealing with machines.......not the tellers or the actual bankers. It's not fun to punch a machine.
Certainly looks like a calm, orderly queue. My guess is they all believe this will be over soon, just a financial glitch. Is it just ATMs that limit cash withdrawls or is the whole banking system on hold? Can people still pay their bills on line and use credit cards, or what? I am a bit puzzled by the lack of reaction.
What else do you expect in a closed loop, fractional reserve banking system?
It begins with pictures of the elite signing a document in a closed off room all smoking pipes and cigars in celebration and ends with picutres like these.
Where's the REALLY BIG ATM machine for our Russian comrades? The one that is CHOCK FULL of money?
Isn't it convenient to not have to go inside the bank to get your money.
Yep. In $200 increments daily, or until the paper is gone. Which is maybe tomorrow or certainly on Tuesday next..
I wonder what this would look like in 2013 America.
