Inflation is hot property today, hyperinflation is even hotter! We think we are modern, contemporary, smart and ready to deal with anything. We’ve got that seen-it-all-before, been-there-done-it...

Pictures From A Cyprus ATM Line

Tyler Durden's picture

For a few days, the people of Cyprus were calm, quietly and orderly accepting the unreality of the levy being imposed upon them - incredulous that it was even possible. As we reach the 4th day of bank closures, amid rolling rumors and ECB threats, it appears the people have reached a tipping point as this series of images from Cyprus ATM lines indicates - the bank-jog has arrived. When will it become a full blown sprint?

It appears the catalyst for this latest move is the ECB threat and EU concerns over the future of the two biggest insolvent banks: As AFP reports:  EU calls on Cyprus to set capital controls and merge 2 biggest banks Laiki and Bank of Cyprus.

"I wonder what this would look like in 2013 America."

Same as it looks in Cyprus except 3 out of 5 in line will have an AR 15 or handgun, and a few will be selling t-shits that say: I trusted my fascist pig faced commie government and all I got was this stupid fucking helicopter Ben t-shirt.

We can all figure out where it goes from there when the paper stops flowing like the spice out of the ATM's...

That would be 2 handguns and 4 spare magazines and a carry license tucked behind the driver's license. Minimum under those circumstances.

You have to admit that the expression "bank RUN" doesn't sound very enticing. Now if they called it "bank drive-thru with free milkshake" maybe it would look nastier.

I've been doing a "Bank Walk" for the past 6 months: $200 dollars cash back for every debit transaction at my favorite grocery store.  I get cash back even if I buy just one carton of milk.  I slowly but surely drain all the fiat from that account.

There is no real panic yet because the people still have access to thier money through ATMs and the credit cards still mostly work. Most probably believe that thier government will never allow the ECB to take 10% of thier money. As long as they can still access their account and the balance shows full, all is well. Cyprus is also a test of a faith in government. People normally don't act until it is already too late. The false faith that government will be there to save you, is pervasive around the globe.

Some might be using the opportunity to purchase a ton of things on credit, believing the banks will blow up and they won't ever have to pay back the debt. If you knew Bank of America was going to blow up next week, and you had a $30k credit limit, what would you do?

Once the ATMs run dry, you'll see some panic. Which is probably why the ECB is doing everything they can to keep the machines stocked.

There are a huge number of home firearms in Cyprus, and in Greece too, typically at least a family shotgun

Perhaps about 100 million privately owned civilian European guns

Funny that Americans think they are the only ones with 'guns' ... we Europeans don't bluster about them so much, but we know it is the last resort against the Nazis and fascists, with whom we have some very valuable experience ...

Facts of gun ownership and policies in countries around the world:
http://www.gunpolicy.org/

The 300 million firearms in the USA do not seem to have prevented America from going fascist ... with 2.3 million prisoners in the US concentration camp gulag, and constant theft of assets via corrupt US courts and lawyers, and things like MF Global, Peregrine and Sentinel bank confiscations ... and now guns getting confiscated in California etc.

In fact we Europeans seem much better and effective at street demonstrations, political general strikes shutting down an entire country, and political rioting ... in the USA people fear the 20-year prison sentence for 'terra-rism' so Americans stay at home with their guns no matter how bad it gets

The problem with street demos and riots across Europe is that they're carried out by people who want more socialism, not less. Take a look at their banners, listen to them being interviewed by TV news etc.

These people blame what's happened and still happening onto "capitalism". When any thinking person with an IQ bigger than a shoe size knows darned well it isn't. It is crony capitalism-corporatism, all manipulated by statist governments and their crony corporatist banksters.
