Why is there revenue that doesn't feed through?

Where does that go?  Slushing Chinese administrators to keep all the window-jumper stories buried?

No doubt.

But who's on the receiving end of this?

Are we calling this part of the "Advertising" budget to make sure the SEC uses iPhones?

Or part of the "R&D" budget to make sure that the Tizen operating system developers are distracted?

Let's see some transparency here -- I just want to know where to camp out in line for iBlow and iSnatch.

I walked by an Apple Store at the mall last week. It was about 11:00 AM.

40-45 employees were just standing around and 2 hired state police were looking at their

droids.

Exactly my thought, if they continue to lose market share in their iPhones to Samsung they are in deep poo unless there is another genius product coming through R&D.

Yeah that was exactly my thought.  The review I read on the S 4 basically said it made the latest iPhone look like yesterday's trash.

Also brings to mind an article I was reading on the reg earlier... iPads in education: Not actually evil, but pretty close

One of the main points it covered is how is Apple going to maintain its status as education friendly when those damn iPads are locked down so tight, there are no programming languages you can run on them. How are you going to teach a kid to do those sorts of things on a device that is locked down? Even the subjects that it could be somewhat useful, such as art, it ends up being more of a distraction then a useful tool.

So what happens when everyone who wants an iPhone already has one and realized that if they don't necessarily need the next version?  What happens when people who bought into the origional, 2, 3, 4, 5...all of a sudden realize that they don't need #6 and are cool with the one(s) they already have?  Now I realize that this is America, but people are coming around to reality I think.

Better yet, factor in pricing pressure. What happens if they need to slash prices 25 to 40%? Apple without the iPaidalot is just a chunk of cash with low growth. Remember all that happy talk about how iPod.. then iPhone... then iPad were going to push the Mac mainstream? Bzzt.. its got what.. 13% of US market - against a historical of probably 7% and its global share is probably on the order of 5-8%. Apple failed miserably by not returning at least 2/3 of the cash pile to investors prior to year end and new tax rules.

I see why each generation of phone has very little changes from one to the next, the R&D looks like an after thought according to the tiny little bar at the bottom.  Tell me again why I should ditch the 4S for a 5?? Oh, the screen is longer, what a development.

After 10 years on a Blackberry I switched to the iPhone 4 in the January sales. I've already burned up two sim chips as this seems to be a known design flaw that has never been fixed. It burns a ton more bandwidth and I do prefer the keyboard of the blackberry. So, I am not sure if it is that much of a Great Leap Forward yet, and the next time the sim burns out on a business trip I may move back to a blackberry, Nokia, or something else. It ain't all that and a bag of crisps.

Glad to know your iPhone works....I found each OS update bricked mine and now i am out of warranty I do not update and funnily enough it runs without bricking. I am bored wth the small screen and if I could get enthusiastic one day i might try a Samsung Note or simply do nothing. Presently I prefer to do nothing and watch the Virtual Reliality World collapse and hold onto a tough phone like my basic BB for when things go pear-shaped and only BBM functions.

As for Apple, well SONY went down that route until it got greedy and tried to compete in all price classes in all segments and lost its quality and innovation by shipping Taiwanese and Chinese crap. Apple at least has a far better position thanks to Jobs than it had in 1997.

There is no way this chart is correct.  This is b.s., in my opinion.  Look at the tiny, tiny, tiny sliver AAPL puts toward R&D?  My ass.  They put a hell of a lot more money toward R&D ... something is wrong with this graphic.

This doesn't show Cash but I've wondered that myself.

The only thing that occurs to me is that whatever big US corps decide to keep in Europe will be as little as possible and strictly for working capital needs. Everything else will be moved to Channel Islands, Cayman, etc. Maybe it already is that way.

I do believe ZH has already answered that question.  As evidenced by the levels of pharmaceuticals, liquor, etc in countries like Greece.  I can garuntee that if there is an apple store in Cyprus, they barely have enough cash on hand to make payroll.

Oh and just to add, if you were the manager of that said apple store (if it exists), how would your sales have fared over the past week without the banks?  What poor schmuck is going to save up his daily 30 euro allotment to buy one of their iPhone 5s?

I do hear that iPads taste good when combined with a little tobasco sauce.

The truth of the matter is that Apple now SUX just as much as Mircosoft does. Where is the real innovation? Whats with the all the proprietaryt interfaces and being jailed to iTunes?

Case in point...a Macbook Pro of mine suddenly does not boot and needs a OSX reinstall. Well, you go find an install version of Mountain Lion somewhere. It is impossible. The Apple stores do not cary it (hard to believe but true) and calls to Apple sales result in redirects to the App store, where you can only download and install, but not burn to dvd! It's a classic catch 22!!! Jobs, come back. You left a bunch of idiots in charge.

The move to download-only OS upgrades was a Steve Jobs thing which started with the release of Lion.  After an uproar they sold a USB drive version of Lion for triple the cost of the download version, but looks like they're not compromising this time.

IIRC don't the new Macs have a recovery partition that you can boot to?

Googs makes nearly nothing on Android licensing. Between 96-97% of their revenue comes from advertising, and over half of that comes from insurance advertising. Insurers pay $54/click for a Google ad. The way I recall it, from 2012, ad revenue was $10 billion, everything else was $100m. If Firefox/IE turned on AdBlock and disabled tracking cookies by default, they'd get killed.
