Cypriot Youth Rise Up In Pictures: "They Just Got Rid Of All Our Dreams"

Tyler Durden's picture

There is a reason we think of youth unemployment as the 'scariest' thing in Europe as we have discussed here and here. After a few months of relative calm, it appears the youth are once again finding their hopes dashed and are protesting. As Reuters reports, thousands of students and bank workers protested in the Cypriot capital Nicosia today. "They've just gotten rid of all our dreams, everything we've worked for, everything we've achieved up until now, what our parents have achieved," is how one young protester exclaimed his feelings, as a bank worker added, "we are scared." It appears President Anastasiades comment that, "the agreement we reached is difficult but, under the circumstances, the best that we could achieve," is not reassuring an increasingly volatile people.

Have a vested interest in this particular demo.

My brother in law, and his grown kids are in that crowd. The mob usually kills the wrong people.

Was talking just yesterday with someone who was a rioter at Watts. They

destroyed their own stuff.Dumb.

Personally I'd like a fair trial for the bankers followed by a slow, painful ,lingering

death.Fat chance.

Trouble is I think the bankers think  they are ready ,and want violence.

I agree with you, but isn't it a bit counter intuitive to refer to the Watts riots as an example?

We are talking about niggers (ignorant, subsidized and coddled black people) rioting not people. Completely different animal.

They threw a hissy fit and destroyed their already worthless community knowing that Uncle Sam and the liberals would come and rebuild it all new and shiniy for them. You could say that that WAS the reason for the riots.

Real protesters take it to the cause of their torment. The Occupy Wall Streeters (agree with them or not) took their beef to the streeters and banksters instead of destroying the communities where they live.

I'm just saying.          hujel

Well... a lot of people said that last week, thinking about reprisals from the Russian mafia.  And yet, nothing has materialized.  Why not?  Because, as I speculated a few days ago, the troika IS the mafia. Remember, the "fix" was in... the Russian mafia did not lose a ruble in the process, I could almost guarantee that.  In fact, I would be prepared to eat my dirty underwear if, within the next two weeks, we hear of a single suspicious death among those fucking banksters.  Hold me to that friendly bet :-)

You think they drove a boat to Cyprus and carted off all those deposits just sitting there in the banks' vaults?

Four years of Zerohedge and posters still have no understanding of the issue.  The money is gone.  Go it without the Troika, and even insured depositors probably take a hit.  Take the Troika's money, and at least insured depositors are made whole.  Saying "No" to anyone other than depositors is not an option.  Cypriot banks owe money to depositors.  The banks have no money, because their assets went bad.  The Govt of Cyprus has no money.  Telling the Troika to "Go Home" doesn't make any of the money suddenly reappear.  Why do you not get that?

Incidentally, this problem could have come up even if gold was money and even if fractional reserve did not exist.  When assets are less than liabilities, somebody loses.  Equity, then bondholders, then uninsured depositors.  There is no other way, unless you prefer TARP and QE, which then takes from people without skin in the game.

I'm befuddled by the lack of understanding on the part of many ZH members.  Bizarre.  They damn TARP and QE, but when the only other available option is chosen, they damn that, too.  I guess pathological anger will create its own outlet when none is available.

The EU is set up to ensure that votes are only taken if they are sure to be won by the 'right' people.

Inquiring of the Cypriot people if they'd like to have their parent's wealth confiscated, is one of those questions the EU just wouldn't ask!!

Far better just to take it, keep the banks closed, ban removing any more capital, and hope for the best.

That's what passes for a fucking plan in the halls of power in Brussels.

I'm sure it'll all turn out OK.

What makes you think some of us aren't doing just that in whatever ways we can? I exercise at the moment the one bit of leverage I do have and that is the concept of no. I say no and I back it up by voting with my wallet and feet. When we cross these lines here then the violence and protests will commence. At some point a line has to be drawn in the sand and if it is crossed it has to be enforced by whatever means necessary. Remember they need us more than we need them at the end of day in a master/slave dynamic. The slaves don't need the masters when they realize how to say no and back it up.

Ireland makes things.
Produces more food per capita than most countries.

A society that victimizes the least informed or weakest citizens is the problem; be mad at the mugger not the little old lady with cash in her purse who got beat and robbed.

Hey Kidz!

I just found the Lyrics to a Gee Whiz! song from 1970!!!

It's real inspirational and it tells a tale that applies to YOU!!!

Enjoy...

"Plan Your Revolution"

John Mayall, 1970

Establishment doctrine
In the USA
Make you very uptight
You don't want
Anybody standing in your way
Plan your revolution
But you mustn't fail
Examine eyery angle
Or you'll find the power people
Putting you in jail
Because the old ones
Are going to put you down
They want the longhairs out of town
They've forgotten they were rebels too
Fighting for freedom back in '42
But how will you be feeling
Twenty years from now
When all your sons and daughters
Will be criticising you
For the things you do?

Keep your head together
Accept reality
Don't become a druggie
Unless you're
Too weak to face responsibility
Take initial action
Show them you are fair
Show them you're constructive
Abide by the laws
Or you will be nowhere
Tell the old ones what has got to be
Point the finger-
It's up to you and me
Get the nation aware of what is wrong
We need to feel
We've got a home where we belong
So study your behavior
Before you criticise
You'll need a lot of leadersTo clear away
Hypocrisy and wars and lies

Don't put off another day
What you could do today!

These are the scenes that will be coming to a theatre near you soon. The banks in the US and most of the rest of the world are just as bad off as the Cypriot banks. If anyone thinks our central bank and our "leaders" (anywhere) won't take every penny you have if they feel the need you are delousional.

This shit just keeps getting worse and worse. Since 08 there was Layman's, Bear, Wacovia, WAMU, AIG, Tarp, Talf, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Cyprus, 16 trillion Bernake bucks to the banks, 80% monetization, trillions added to the national debt and with all of that banks are still going tits up around the world. Our rights are non-existant, you can be jailed indefinately, killed as needed and the US will try to take our weapons.

The younger you are, the more probable it is that you are being lied to, cheated, and robbed by the political system you were born into, which is privatized fiat money, made out of nothing, as debts, which are a claim on resources in the future. That fraud is backed by force. The protests today will be suppressed by police paid with money made out of nothing, which enslaves those protesters even more than before!

Since our whole civilization is based on fundamentally fraudulent financial systems, backed by the force of sovereign governments (although that only favours a tiny percentage of the population), every economic decision we make is severely distorted by our fraudulent accounting systems, which ignore the laws of nature, other than to the degree to which, PREVIOUSLY, force has been able to back up those frauds. The ONLY ways that the laws of physics have played a real role in the development of these situations were the ways that physical violence was used to back up symbolic lies. THAT is what one expects will continue to be the overwhelming reality for the foreseeable future. The young people that protest the destruction of their future will be met by more fascist policing, to enforce the frauds that are destroying their future. The established systems will be able to continue to create more debts, as money made out of nothing, to pay those police, in order to keep their systems of organized lies, operating organized robberies, going ... The increasingly fascist police powers will also be able to personally terrorize those police themselves even more, by the prospects of what would happen to them, as individuals, if they were no longer employed as police, to keep the financial frauds going, which pay them to do that.

The young people who may well protest are up against globalized systems set up by banksters, who have become a transnational, collective group of trillionaire mass murderers. Those young people probably only see the most immediate aspects of what is going wrong for them. I doubt that many in the crowds in those photographs understand anything more than tiny pieces of the first part of their problems, which is legalized counterfeiting of "money" made out of nothing, as debts, automatically driving its numbers to become nuts at an exponentially accelerating rate.

Of course, the THEORETICAL solutions ought to be based on more radical truth, however, AFTER society becomes so insane, and so totally dominated by huge legalized lies, for so long, and that has become utterly entrenched, such radical truth is so far away from the established social situation, as to make any such solutions almost unimaginable!

Grass roots protest? Maybe on day one. By day two, UK, US, Russian, Israeli, Chinese intelligence operatives are on the ground, in the crowd directing traffic. These uprisings aren't wasted by geopolitical power.

That's most likely what OWS was about. The Progressive/Corporatist  admin turned it off because the original "save the little people" agenda got away from them and GS didn't appreciate that.

Sadly, protests produce no results. Signs about one's dreams mean nothing to foreign (or your own) leaders. Each time a Hitler moustache is drawn on the face of Merkel, she gains about 100 votes in Germany. The Cypriots and the Greeks and others should elect people who won't sell them out. This they have not done. Unless Cyprus has some secret plan we don't know about, if they carry out the Troika's wishes, I would say that the initial "No" vote was staged. I don't know why protesters nowadays are so against having a leader. Think about any movement in the past that was successful and you will find a leader at the helm.

Exactly why the occupy movements failed - once they were done with their placards and their sing songs then it was back to the PC retard voting patterns - putting in the scum who had bailed out the banks.

We don't need protests, we need people to take enough interest in politics to vote for someone decent. Cannot help thinking that the Grand Theft Auto generation will only ever vote for gangsters though. Sooner that lot die a death in the Mad Max world they have created, the better.
