Cyprus' Firearms Laws
For those curious:
Cyprus has strict gun control. Private citizens are completely forbidden from owning handguns and rifles in any calber, even .22 rimfire. Only shotguns are allowed, and these require a license. Shotguns are limited to two rounds. The only shotguns typically sold in stores are double-barreled side-by-sides or over-unders. Pump actions and semiautomatics are prohibited. A private citizen can own a total of ten different shotguns. A citizen is not required to specify a reason for ownership to obtain a license, but most own their guns for hunting. Licenses are issued by provincial police. A gun license is required to buy ammunition, and ammunition sales are recorded. A shotgun owner may purchase up to 250 shells at one time. Cyprus also controls airguns, and airgun owners require a license.

It's easy to cut tires. Hack up cell towers. Make fires. The imagination is a wonderful thing.
And sure as shit ain't stopped the Tom foolery to date....
Perceptions Management is a powerful thing
88.8 guns per 100 residents: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country
In Webster's time the army was armed with muskets and cannons. The average citizen also had muskets. Now the average citizen in the US may have an AR-15 but the armed forces have Apache Longbows, F-22 Raptors, M1 Abrams and fully automatic M16's.
Then again the Vietcong, Somalians, Taliban and Iraqi insurgents managed to hold out against the superior armed US forces so it is not impossible.
Another thing to consider is that many (most?) US military personnel do not support Dear Leader and his enablers. So, if push comes to shove, those Apaches, F-22s, M1s, and M16s may not be at Dear Leader's disposal.
Forward (over the cliff)!
I'd heard most of em were happy with the proposed cuts in pensions, medical care and the like in the spirit of giving all for their country and to the free shit army
Soldiers are TRAINED to follow orders. Don't kid yourself, they WILL follow orders. It is the commanders that have to cross the line and say: "We stand with the people!"
This whole clusterfuck is not going to end well.
Negative Sir, many of us take our oath seriously.
As I stated yesterday, the "benefit" (if one can call it that) of any potential civil war would be its proximity to the politicians. And as much as soldiers are trained to follow the orders of their commanding officers, the commanding officers are trained to follow the orders of the president.
***[Everyone can start waving to the NSA at this point.]***
So while the military may initially follow presidential orders to go against the citizenry, the president will have second thoughts once politicians (and, unfortunately, their families if necessary) start dropping like flies.
Please understand, this isn't meant to minimize the shit-storm that would ensue if members of the military, even if just a small number, were to turn against the people. I'm simply saying this is one advantage citizens of any country have when their government becomes violent toward them.
Which is why they want drones controled by amoral youths thinking they
playing video games.AI is just around the corner for these 'peacefull'
killing machines. We are looking at a perpetual darke ages for humanity
if we stand idly by much longer.
Too much talk and not enough action.
Fewer uncomfortable questions that way.
Drone "pilot": "Was that a kid?"
Unidentified observer: "no, that was a dog"
yep ...."kids will be kids.... they will learn to listen soon"
Then again I also want to see the average couch potato who fired a couple of magazines downrange with his pimped out AR15 and thinks he is the man, survive and fight like a Vietcong/Somalian/Taliban/Iraqi insurgent. I am sick and tired of fucking idiots who loaded an extra couple of pounds in Picatinny rails, flashlight lasers, scopes any other crap on their rifle, who think they can put up any sort of fight. Lets see how much of FM3-22-9 they accomplish to an acceptable standard, TO BEGIN WITH, and then we talk about standing up to the government.
From my time in Afghanistan back in the early seventies, the average
eight year old boy is quite capable of killing most Americans and
especially the couch potato variety.Every time I crossed the border at Torkam
from Iran into it ,it was like going back to 100 ad.
A great and proud TRIBAL people.
Big shame that the American Generals, and politicos had not driven down
the Khyber pass before messing with them. The monuments to the fallen past
invaders are littered everywhere on tha road.
My favorite line from "The Princess Bride"
"Haha.. you fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is: Never get involved in a land war in Asia."
no shit .... I will never forget: during the 1st few days of our "visit" into Afghanistan, they showed footage of a tribesman on a horse with a sword chasing a tank. I was speechless .....
I am not sure if to file that under "no brains" or "balls abondanza" .... but sure as hell he had lots of pride.
We should have kept it as it was originally. A few great CIA guys working with the Northern Alliance. Just keep the fuck out.
Good Point, but don't forget you have a lot of vets that have seen recent actions, via Iraq and Afghanistan that have now returned to "civilian life" aka Oath Keepers and their like. Still going to end up with a lot of people dead if something like this were to happen, in essence US Civil War Two, remember the death tolls for that war, 10% or more of the entire US male population died in that war, not including the amputations, and other long term injuries etc????
Then pull your panties down and give up your pussy, agent default.
When your life hangs in the balance most people progress down the learning curve very quickly. For the ones that don't, I can make great use out of their AR 15 with all the bells and whistles attached. So what exactly are you bitching about ?
Poor Cypriots , if they were armed the Eurogroup would have thought twice..
I'd be interested in knowing how long this has been the law? Truthfully those aren't the most horrible rules, you can still buy a shotgun and plenty of ammo. A shotgun is a good item to obtain better items.
A few hundred Cypriots with shotguns could do some damage but nothing is happening. Just like in the US no one likes jail.
The majority Party in Cyprus is communist in all but name. That's why the disarmed populace, at mercy of Jew-banksters. They'd like that here too.
Air guns are illegal?
I am pretty sure a lead pipe is WAY more lethal and dangerous than air guns!
Modern Air Rifles are no longer simple BB guns. They use a SCUBA tank to charge it up to 3,000 PSI and ammo is 50 cal.
http://youtu.be/2t-7lEPKeWY
I see. I had more air "hand" gun in mind.
With the good ones you can either get rid of mice and little birds or really piss off riot police by scratching their helmet visors.
True. But better tools for that objective are eggs and paintball guns. Someone already mentioned Mr. Molotov and his cocktails.
I've seen a paintball gun put a marble though 1/2" of plywood at about 30 feet.
Chevy Chase once took over a whole amusement park armed with nothing but an air pistol (with the price tag still hanging from the trigger guard).
That was the park's fault for hiring John Candy as the security guard.
I did it like dis, I did it like dat, I did it with a wiffle ball bat!
The lack of gun control in the U. S. certainly has not stopped the banks from fucking its citizens:
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/judge-dismisses-some-claims-in-libor-su...
"In a 161-page ruling on the banks’ motions to dismiss the leading suits seeking class-action status, U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald allowed some of the claims to proceed, including allegations the banks breached commodities laws.
But if her ruling stands, it would take out a central plank of the litigation. The federal antitrust claims that the judge threw out can pay up to triple damages.
Unless the plaintiffs can prevail on appeal, Friday’s ruling on the antitrust claims would significantly reduce the potential cost to the banks. The ruling also is likely to reduce the financial incentive for new plaintiffs to join investors, cities, lenders and other parties that have already filed lawsuits.
The ruling is a rare example of good news for the banking industry amid the escalating Libor scandal."
And all on Good Friday.
Praise the Lords of Finance. /sarc
"The lack of gun control in the U. S. certainly has not stopped the banks from fucking its citizens:"
No, but the day the People finally have had enough there will be absolute hell to pay.
I always keep wondering during conversations like this why the iner cities haven't up and rioted it the thesis is true?
They lack internet skills and most likely pc's. But they all have programming TVs.
50 million EBT cards... which so far get refilled every month.
It seems the inner cities are populated with people who enjoy living on the Government PlantationTM. A short riot every decade or so to get the latest in TV or furniture does suffice.
Please. "The People" don't even know what's happening to them, They're too busy following the exploits of Honey Boo-Boo, watching Beyonce shake her ass like a glorified stripper, spend their EBT card on lobster and rib tips, and voting Democrat, Republican or whoever will promise them the most goodies to notice.
There will not be hell to pay because most of us are absolutely mindless, barbarian savages.
+ 100
And before there is any kind of awakening (just after the EBT/SNAP cards stop working) DHS will be on every street corner.
Then it'll be a target-rich environment. After I finish my night-shift job, I see one of those TSA lardasses in the groc story early AM every Wednesday. Wearing his cute little blue jacket. Dead Man Walking.
Yep.... and should anything happen, The Divider-in-chief will make certain to play the race card. This fucker took divide-and-conquer" to an art-form or PhD level.
Sadly ..... SADLY ..... i fear you are spot on. I gave up on trying to warn people. The best I might achieve is a few minutes reflection followed by "but what can we do about it ..... got more coffee?!!!!"
I would have thought that day had already come and gone, several times over.
That's one of the reasons Turkey now occupies the northern part of the island.
I wonder when the Russians will drop off a container of arms and ammo for the citizens of Cyprus?
They already were allowed to take their Euro-trashworthlessscriptmoney and leave so why would they bother?
Thank god yanks have the freedom to stockpile weapons and ammo.
Nothing like an obese, barely literate population, armed to the teeth.
Hypnotized by sports, reality television, fast food and Internet porn
Don't feed her, knuks. Making broad, sweeping generalizations about 300+ million people you don't know is a fools game. She is obviously scared to death.
Yes liz, stop exaggerating, the obesity rate is only 35+%
actually generalizations are quite useful for decision-making and they work.
The cool thing about guns is you don't have to be all that fit to use one.
All you need to supply is motivation.....which is why the progressives try not to mess with the people in flyover country.
They got a toe hold in Colorado....but most all the Sheriffs there have said they're not going to enforce it, and they're backed up by a rifle behind every blade of grass. Except in Boulder...and who cares about that place.
So in response to that the 'rats in the state house are trying to give the Secret Service arrest powers for violating state law, i.e. to enforce the laws the sheriffs refuse to. <waves hand> This isn't the standing army you're looking for.
Boulder might as well put up a "Safe, easy victims who won't resist" sign on US-36. The average gang banger won't be very deterred listening to a chorus of Kumbaya while they pillage.
I"ve added Colorado to my boycott list. I bet they will soon start paying in the wallet for their "enlightenment."
Gee .... I would have thought with 200 plus years the pain of the ass kicking would have passed. I guess not.

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it."
The only problem with this is that TJ did not envision a government with the sophisticated weaponry that exist today.
To have this remain in "balance" the citizens have to be in a "arms race" with the US government....
we could start with a 21st-century guillotine.
You are assuming that the boots on the ground who have those weapons at their immediate disposal will serve the traitors who think they are in command.
You watch too much television; if you don't like the States then bugger off and don't come here.
Have you licked your Queens dried up old pussy lately?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
You wrote: "Nothing like an obese, barely literate population, armed to the teeth."
This is correct English: "There is nothing like an obese, barely literate population that is armed to its teeth."
This is called proper English. It is hard to call someone stupid when the sentence you craft is something out of a secondary school for the developmentally challenged. How are the knife bans coming along over there in Merry ole' England? Seen a dentist lately?
Now I normally don't like "grammar Nazis" but your comment was very funny!
The sarcastic gang is out tonight!!! My peoples ...:-)
Have some more fish and chips, you seem a bit jealous.
Thank god yanks HAD stockpiles of guns and ammo so that swastikas are not flying over London today....
Yeah ... but that was so long ago... it does not count. Besides, UK has a different complexion today !!!
You do understand that if the scenario you mentioned came to fruition, the America you know would not exist?
Greater Germany would have used nuckear weapons against the US - delivered by aircraft that were futuristic even by today's standards - and America too would be flying the swastika.
Shows how much you know. We rednecks don't have any teeth.
teef is the correct pronunciation
my bad.
Dupe
Being barely literate myself, all I read was a comparison between one people:
who have the freedom to stockpile weapons and ammo
and another:
who are obese, barely literate and armed with bad teeth.
Too bad I never learned to read better. I have had a much better experience with limey's than that. Not all of you have bad teeth and many, with french blood in your histories, are quite svelte.
A simple response will suffice.
FUCK YOU
you forgot to append ...."and I mean that in the nicest possible way"!!!! </sarc>
Lizzy, me gal, ye speak the truth. And see what negative results befall ye.
All those stockpiles will not go to waste. They shall fall into the hands of the brave and mighty once the cannon fodder is removed.
They have sling shots though right?
Your dead enemy does not need his gun and ammo any more. ~ roadhazard :101.
But they do have scissors.
Plus they can puke on demand......don't push them.
molotov cocktails anyone?
Sorry buddy. Just saw your comment. Agree totally. When someone is pissed off the last thing they consider is the issue of licensing.
Wonder if sawed-off double barrel shotguns are illegal? Seems to me that with 10 double barrel guns in the hands of 10 family members and 25 rounds of ammo each if there was enough motivation there could be some swift justice done on Cyprus. Rainy day, everybody in trench coats, sawed-offs tucked alongside your leg - perfect time to pay a visit to your friendly Cypriot banker.
And while it may be illegal to own anything else, once the shooting starts and a few cops or military get accidentally taken out I guess their weapons would be fair game. I mean why leave perfectly good automatic weapons just laying around?
So what's missing in Cyprus is the decision to act - just like here in the good old USA.
I like how politicians are so afraid of scary looking guns because that is all they know. They think they can keep on going as long as no one has scary weapons. They'd change their ways if any of them knew how easy it was to make plastic explosives of stuff like bleach, diet salt, and vasoline with minimal processing. LOL. It is like they know nothing about economics or reality in general.
Just like here, I'm sure there are far more many guns in basements that those attempting to loot the population have any idea of.......
thing is, i think the reason no one has been strung up on the lamp post yet is due to simply stunned disbelief......
I mean, the banks and the government in Cyprus are now openly looting the population.......the people are like deer in the headlights.
I suspect the ECB gets away with this in one more country, and then its game over. And when Bennie Boy tries the same here.....I suspect the "docile" population won't be so docile.....having had neon glaring demos of what this means from Europe over a couple of months.
Meanwhile, for those of us here reading Zerohedge and aware of the various government plans' in the offing, its only smart to move into gold and silver as quickly as possible, and take possession of it.
The simple truth is that there is NO SHORTAGE OF FIREARMS anywhere in the world. There are only shortages of law-abiding citizens legally empowered to own them and employ them.
When shit gets bad enough this becomes evident and somewhat self-correcting, albeit at great cost.
Q'Daffy didn't allow his uppity serfs easy access to firearms, and Fatah Younis changed that balance. Baby Bashar, same shit. Even within contemporary continental Europe Tito and Hoxha would make Bloomturd appear pro-2nd amendment by comparison, but good and bad alike found plenty of firearms when TSHTF. Sub-Saharan Africa is literally littered with guns, although the simple machete has never lost its place when the goal is to terrorize the opposition.
Even in the US and absent the the 100 million or so firearms in lawful private possession, if (or when) TSHTF do you really think there aren't an army of gang-bangers who have the location of the locations of the nearest .gov depots at their disposal? If the fat bull-dyke of DHS thinks she is going to be able to sit on some mountain of billions of rounds of ammunition when the government cheese runs out, then she hasn't the slightest clue what has and will happen in every contemporary instance when the government cheese no longer cuts it...
Let the polls say what they will as we all know that they and the lame stream media will lie anyway. It is the spirit and the mood of the people that is well known to us all. Even those on the government teet are aware, if not more aware. Many in DHS are there because they cannot find a job doing anything else. Bull dike will lose. No real man wants to have her as the boss. What an insult to their testosterone manliness. Yes Americans WILL RISE when the time comes. The people of the world are fucking sick and tired of the elite rape. Whe the SHTF many of the elite will run like fat tortoise rabbits as their own will abandon them. There is no loyalty amoung thieves. They have been strong contributors to their own demise. If it must be then it will be. WE shall overcome.
All you need is a boxcutter.
I think it behooves each and every single one of us, AND OUR FAMILIES, to join the NRA.

Americans never give up your guns Thursday, December 27, 2012
By Stanislav Mishin
These days, there are few few things to admire about the socialist, bankrupt and culturally degenerating USA, but at least so far, one thing remains: the right to bear arms and use deadly force to defend one's self and possessions.
A suggested group as a viable alternative for NRA:

One of the Rabbi's, just recently asked Bloomberg to kindly go pound salt !!!! It brought tear to my eyes!!! Sweet.
I wonder if you need a licence for a molotov cocktail.
John Derbyshire On Homosexual Marriage: Could The Pendulum Swing Back?
First they came for the idiots, and I didn't speak out....
The primary infringement on free speech in most western nations, and now in Russia, are various degrees of criticism of Zionism and the Holocaust. And this incident demonstrates that in America if you express thoughts deemed unacceptable by some you can lose your job, lose your business, be publicly humiliated, and/or if you happen to have a sensitive job like a policeman, then your additional constitutional rights will be infringed .
What’s next? Prison, because that’s where it ends in a number of countries, such as Germany, with laws against Holocaust denial, or hate speech defined as anti-Semitism.
And, now Russia is joining the West by taking steps to make criticism of the Jewish Holocaust a crime. The Russian lower house, according to Russia Today this past week, has received a new bill suggesting “up to five years in prison for publicly denying the Holocaust or portraying Nazis as heroes.” Its intent also is to tamp down Russian nationalism.
Since the financial sector of the United States is heavily managed by Jews and this leverage has created incredible control of congressional and administration policies, particularly a clamp down on criticism of Zionists and their influence in the government, Americans are left defenseless in bringing constructive criticism of their leaders.
Soon, many other freedoms will be first abused and, then, eliminated. Free speech was one of the Founders’ most important principles. Its infringement will definitely destroy what remains of the American Republic.
Political activists at the forefront in forcing the US culturally and ethnically into a “pluralistic society” use the approach that hate speech protects blacks, Latinos, and homosexuals, et cetera, from white Americans, but it’s really just a strategy for eliminating criticism of Jews; the organizations who are driving this campaign primarily are Zionist intellectuals and organizations, such as the Southern Poverty Law Center that pretends to champion “people of color” but primarily targets Christian groups as “hate groups.”
As one blogger wrote among many on the RT site regarding the Russian bill amendments that would make Holocaust denial a “crime with fines ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 rubles (from $3,300 to $10,000), correctional labor for up to two years or, in severe cases, prison terms of up to two years,” or “If the crime is committed through abuse of office or together with threats of violence, the fines are raised to 500,000 rubles (under $17,000) and a maximum prison term of five years”: How can there be truth and justice if the media is censored and critics are imprisoned?

All your money ( um and your guns) are belong to us !
Well the Cyprus Gov't wasn't stupid...unfortunatety, the people were. I can't believe they didn't leave the EU. Still would have been a collapse, but at least the mechenisms would have been in place (depressed currency) to rebuild the place.
as of today, it is still significantly cheaper to set up a company, especailly manufacturing, in the USA compared to Cyprus. Cyprus gov't was in the pockets of EU power houses the entire time. for now the people protest with strongly worded signs, but eventually the pain is felt, then rocks, then whatever weapons are left. Unfortunately, Cyprus is still 5 years or so away from finally hitting rock bottom and over throwing the gov.
get out of Cyprus ASAP.
The Afghanis don't seem to have a problem with no guns. A bit of scrap and a sharp file and they are goood to go.
OK. Here are some targets.
I heard this in the early hours of the morning GMT on the BBC World Service.
Was wondering how long it would take to appear here on ZH.........
So that is where Obummers Economic Recovery team was last week or so?!?
OK. I'm a Cypriot. I've got my AR-15. Now what? There is no civil war. Foreign troops aren't landing. The police will keep order at the banks and that's all they are doing. I need them to do that or I won't even get my 100 euros a day. The foreigners are mainly old people and we need their money.
No one is attacking me and the people who screwed me live very far away.
Who do I shoot?
Who do you shoot?
Probably yourself out of despair.
It is still early days and you still have not fully comprehended the depth of the damage.
The truth is your politicians need to be delt with first.
In the days and weeks ahead you will learn of their incompetence, greed and disloyalty.
Since you do not know what to do with the AR, save it for someone who does. Don't shoot anyone, nor yourself.
If I had a million euros in a Cyprus bank and just had 600,000 of it stolen, there'd be a Barrett M107 winging it's way to me right this minute
please, tell me more about brutality, america, and why everyone should own a gun.
Not everyone is allowed to own a gun in the US. The forbidden are those with a fellony convection, lack of proof or US citizenship, or anyone who at the discression of a gun shop is an unsafe owner (i.e. overtly crazy, or dangerous)
Seriously, you don't believe illegals don't have guns, do you?
You can be a non-US citizen to purchase a firearm in the US. You only need to show/prove that you are here ('Merica) legally.
So we don't have to put up with the crap that Cyprus just did.
.
so here is the math: 3 people x 10 shotgun= 30 guns...4 trips to the ammo store per person = 3000 rounds...so when trouble comes, one person loads while the other 2 just have to grab and fire...seems like that would be a formidable force even if all three people where Joe Biden housewives...

In Amerika there is much resistance to banning guns, so new plan is let peoples own guns but not let ammo ever get to store shelf.
In Amerika there is much resistance to banning guns, so new plan is let peoples own guns but not let ammo ever get to store shelf.
Incorrectomundo, it's getting there, and supplies are catching up SLOWLY, prices a doubled, but people do not care.
The PEOPLE are the one's snatching up all the ammo, not the goobers.
Dear Cyprus Muppets,
The United States of American can provide your country with Crossbows. If the wound doesn’t take them down, the tainted arrow will.
PSE Tactical Assault Crossbows TAC15, TAC10, TAC15i, & TAC10i
Let us know the shipping point. Winks!
"Private citizens are completely forbidden from owning handguns and rifles in any calber, even .22 rimfire."
I figured that detail out without even lifting a finger to look it up. It's obvious from the actions of the Cyprus politicians and banks.
But one has to wonder, how many members of the police, military and security forces had their savings stolen?
Perfect opportunity for an arms dealer.
However, guillotines can be assembled and pressed into to use from a little crowd-sourcing and scrap. Blade may be a dull Citroen hood, but then that is probably a good thing. hujel
They should call Eric Holder and tell him they need weapons for a new drug running operation.
Bankers don't want their debtors to have guns. Too much of a threat. Those loudest in proposing restrictions on our Second Amendment are either representing the bankers and/or are bought and paid for by the bankers...just think who they are and it will all make sense.
The Second Amendment was second only to the First Amendment and was put there to ensure the First Amendment is protected. Once the Second Amendment goes, all bets are off. Hate speech, punishable by imprisonment will then apply to criticism of many things you now find abhorrent.
Portugal also has strict gun laws; 2009 official numbers pointed to 1.2 Mil legal, 1.4 Mil illegal estimates; 2012 numbers pointed to 1.4 Mil legal - illegal estimates for 2012 weren't released...
Here's what comes up in apprehensions:

I have mine. And something under 5k rounds too.
During the uprising against the British which eventually lead to the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus (and which began on MARCH 31st, 1955 interestingly enough), EOKA rebels seized over 800 shotguns out of several thousand privately owned on the island. The task was made much easier thanks to a law that required all firearms to be registered. These shotguns were subsequently employed by special guerilla "shotgun units" and used very effectively against British troops, the army, and domestic police during the course of that uprising. In fact, many of the guerilla units were armed only with shotguns. No wonder they only allow double-barrel shottys and maintain tight control on all weapons and ammunition now-a-days.
That's the beauty of euorpean socialism with politicians, and the central bank. They can rob your imagined savings, make malinvestments with opaque hidden banking decisions, and help politicians look like they are giving you free social programs, and then be long out of town with your money when the obsfucicated bank robbery is later discovered. Cyprots can not find the actual assemblage of EU bankers and politicians that robbed their savings.
When I by accident turn to MSNBC and find one of those asshats like Chris Matthews trying to exalt Obama's need to make us gunless, as what 99% of all Americans are desperate to see happen, I wonder to myself, does this guy really believe this shit or is he part of a REAL conspiracy?
I think it is both. What a collection of gasbags MSNBS is, and has been for a long time. Shapton being on their payroll sums it all up. The guy is deficient on the credibility department, yet there he is. On further reflection, that is true of the vast majority of gasbags on MSM. Even Charlie Rose went to shit, as has 60 Minutes.
Something MUST be brewing. Of late, more states have been working on legislation at the state level, which would defy any fed gun-grab laws/attempts!!!
This is in N. Dakota:
http://tinyurl.com/d2o4fef
Similar stuff has been flying about in the red states ... as I recall.
Not good news.
Unless you live in CT. The man-in-lieu of a governor in that state is doing his damnest to emulate the man-in-lieu of a president.
LMAO
