Cyprus' Firearms Laws

Tyler Durden's picture

For those curious:

Cyprus has strict gun control. Private citizens are completely forbidden from owning handguns and rifles in any calber, even .22 rimfire. Only shotguns are allowed, and these require a license. Shotguns are limited to two rounds. The only shotguns typically sold in stores are double-barreled side-by-sides or over-unders. Pump actions and semiautomatics are prohibited. A private citizen can own a total of ten different shotguns. A citizen is not required to specify a reason for ownership to obtain a license, but most own their guns for hunting. Licenses are issued by provincial police. A gun license is required to buy ammunition, and ammunition sales are recorded. A shotgun owner may purchase up to 250 shells at one time. Cyprus also controls airguns, and airgun owners require a license.

In Webster's time the army was armed with muskets and cannons. The average citizen also had muskets. Now the average citizen in the US may have an AR-15 but the armed forces have Apache Longbows, F-22 Raptors, M1 Abrams and fully automatic M16's.

Then again the Vietcong, Somalians, Taliban and Iraqi insurgents managed to hold out against the superior armed US forces so it is not impossible.

Another thing to consider is that many (most?) US military personnel do not support Dear Leader and his enablers. So, if push comes to shove, those Apaches, F-22s, M1s, and M16s may not be at Dear Leader's disposal.

Forward (over the cliff)!

Soldiers are TRAINED to follow orders.  Don't kid yourself, they WILL follow orders.  It is the commanders that have to cross the line and say: "We stand with the people!"

As I stated yesterday, the "benefit" (if one can call it that) of any potential civil war would be its proximity to the politicians. And as much as soldiers are trained to follow the orders of their commanding officers, the commanding officers are trained to follow the orders of the president.

***[Everyone can start waving to the NSA at this point.]***

So while the military may initially follow presidential orders to go against the citizenry, the president will have second thoughts once politicians (and, unfortunately, their families if necessary) start dropping like flies.

Please understand, this isn't meant to minimize the shit-storm that would ensue if members of the military, even if just a small number, were to turn against the people. I'm simply saying this is one advantage citizens of any country have when their government becomes violent toward them.

Then again I also want to see the average couch potato who fired a couple of magazines downrange with his pimped out AR15 and thinks he is the man, survive and fight like a Vietcong/Somalian/Taliban/Iraqi insurgent.  I am sick and tired of fucking idiots who loaded an extra couple of pounds in Picatinny rails, flashlight lasers, scopes any other crap on their rifle, who think they can put up any sort of fight.  Lets see how much of FM3-22-9  they accomplish to an acceptable standard, TO BEGIN WITH, and then we talk about standing up to the government.

The lack of gun control in the U. S. certainly has not stopped the banks from fucking its citizens:

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/judge-dismisses-some-claims-in-libor-su...

"In a 161-page ruling on the banks’ motions to dismiss the leading suits seeking class-action status, U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald allowed some of the claims to proceed, including allegations the banks breached commodities laws.

But if her ruling stands, it would take out a central plank of the litigation. The federal antitrust claims that the judge threw out can pay up to triple damages.

Unless the plaintiffs can prevail on appeal, Friday’s ruling on the antitrust claims would significantly reduce the potential cost to the banks. The ruling also is likely to reduce the financial incentive for new plaintiffs to join investors, cities, lenders and other parties that have already filed lawsuits.

The ruling is a rare example of good news for the banking industry amid the escalating Libor scandal."

And all on Good Friday.

Praise the Lords of Finance. /sarc

Wonder if sawed-off double barrel shotguns are illegal? Seems to me that with 10 double barrel guns in the hands of 10 family members and 25 rounds of ammo each if there was enough motivation there could be some swift justice done on Cyprus. Rainy day, everybody in trench coats, sawed-offs tucked alongside your leg - perfect time to pay a visit to your friendly Cypriot banker.

And while it may be illegal to own anything else, once the shooting starts and a few cops or military get accidentally taken out I guess their weapons would be fair game. I mean why leave perfectly good automatic weapons just laying around?

So what's missing in Cyprus is the decision to act - just like here in the good old USA.

Just like here, I'm sure there are far more many guns in basements that those attempting to loot the population have any idea of.......

thing is, i think the reason no one has been strung up on the lamp post yet is due to simply stunned disbelief......

I mean, the banks and the government in Cyprus are now openly looting the population.......the people are like deer in the headlights.

I suspect the ECB gets away with this in one more country, and then its game over.  And when Bennie Boy tries the same here.....I suspect the "docile" population won't be so docile.....having had neon glaring demos of what this means from Europe over a couple of months.

Meanwhile, for those of us here reading Zerohedge and aware of the various government plans' in the offing, its only smart to move into gold and silver as quickly as possible, and take possession of it.

The simple truth is that there is NO SHORTAGE OF FIREARMS anywhere in the world.  There are only shortages of law-abiding citizens legally empowered to own them and employ them.

When shit gets bad enough this becomes evident and somewhat self-correcting, albeit at great cost.

Q'Daffy didn't allow his uppity serfs easy access to firearms, and Fatah Younis changed that balance.  Baby Bashar, same shit. Even within contemporary continental Europe Tito and Hoxha would make Bloomturd appear pro-2nd amendment by comparison, but good and bad alike found plenty of firearms when TSHTF.  Sub-Saharan Africa is literally littered with guns, although the simple machete has never lost its place when the goal is to terrorize the opposition.

Even in the US and absent the the 100 million or so firearms in lawful private possession, if (or when) TSHTF do you really think there aren't an army of gang-bangers who have the location of the locations of the nearest .gov depots at their disposal?  If the fat bull-dyke of DHS thinks she is going to be able to sit on some mountain of billions of rounds of ammunition when the government cheese runs out, then she hasn't the slightest clue what has and will happen in every contemporary instance when the government cheese no longer cuts it...

The people of the world are fucking sick and tired of the elite rape. Whe the SHTF many of the elite will run like fat tortoise rabbits as their own will abandon them. Obama quietly uses executive power to move gun control agenda forward
03/29/13  THE HILL

President Obama is quietly moving forward on gun control.

The president has used his executive powers to bolster the national background check system, jumpstart government research on the causes of gun violence and create a million-dollar ad campaign aimed at safe gun ownership.

The executive steps will give federal law enforcement officials access to more data about guns and their owners, help keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill, and lay the groundwork for future legislative efforts.

“They’ve taken direct aim at some of the bigger problems in the regulatory part of the issue and they’re doing it in the right way and that’s going to be very helpful,” said Mark Glaze, the director of Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns group.

“Ultimately you need to close the loopholes in the law that will continue to undermine enforcement, but what they’re doing is precisely right.”

They also illustrate the administration’s power to change gun laws despite inaction on Capitol Hill, a practice the president may need to duplicate in other policy areas amid congressional gridlock.

Obama’s steps began the same day he unveiled his 23 gun control proposals in January, when he issued a memorandum requiring all nine federal law enforcement agencies to submit guns they confiscate to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for tracing.

In January, Obama directed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to begin studying the causes of gun violence for the first time since Congress, at the behest of the NRA, began blocking funding for such research in 1996.

The CDC has since awarded a contract to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), which this spring will soon begin looking at the role video games and social media play in gun violence, as well as whether gun technologies and access to guns can be used to reduce violence.

I think it behooves each and every single one of us, AND OUR FAMILIES, to join the NRA.

Americans never give up your guns   Thursday, December 27, 2012
By Stanislav Mishin

These days, there are few few things to admire about the socialist, bankrupt and culturally degenerating USA, but at least so far, one thing remains: the right to bear arms and use deadly force to defend one's self and possessions.

For a glimpse of what is already possible, note the case of New York Emergency Medical Services Lieutenant Timothy Dluhos, who posted some off-color remarks about blacks, Jews, and Chinese on Twitter.  On Monday this week Dluhos was, in the smug words of the New York Post itself, “outed by The Post as a racist.”  He was promptly suspended by his employer, and:

NYPD cops confiscated two rifles owned by the 34-year-old dad, who had bragged online about the arsenal of weapons he kept at his Staten Island home, a law-enforcement source said.  He had permits for both weapons, the source said.

[FDNY Honchos Slap EMS Twit, New York Post, March 25, 2013; my italics.]

So the police can already walk in and remove your Second Amendment rights for referring to the Mayor of New York as “King Heeb,” or for expressing such thoughts as: “[Expletive] Chinks can’t drive.”

The primary infringement on free speech in most western nations, and now in Russia, are various degrees of criticism of Zionism and the Holocaust. And this incident demonstrates that in America if you express thoughts deemed unacceptable by some you can lose your job, lose your business, be publicly humiliated, and/or if you happen to have a sensitive job like a policeman, then your additional constitutional rights will be infringed .

What’s next? Prison, because that’s where it ends in a number of countries, such as Germany, with laws against Holocaust denial, or hate speech defined as anti-Semitism.

And, now Russia is joining the West by taking steps to make criticism of the Jewish Holocaust a crime. The Russian lower house, according to Russia Today this past week, has received a new bill suggesting “up to five years in prison for publicly denying the Holocaust or portraying Nazis as heroes.” Its intent also is to tamp down Russian nationalism.

Since the financial sector of the United States is heavily managed by Jews and this leverage has created incredible control of congressional and administration policies, particularly a clamp down on criticism of Zionists and their influence in the government, Americans are left defenseless in bringing constructive criticism of their leaders.

Soon, many other freedoms will be first abused and, then, eliminated. Free speech was one of the Founders’ most important principles. Its infringement will definitely destroy  what remains of the American Republic.

Political activists at the forefront in forcing the US culturally and ethnically into a “pluralistic society” use the approach that hate speech protects blacks, Latinos, and homosexuals, et cetera, from white Americans, but it’s really just a strategy for eliminating criticism of Jews; the organizations who are driving this campaign primarily are Zionist intellectuals and organizations, such as the Southern Poverty Law Center that pretends to champion “people of color” but primarily targets Christian groups as “hate groups.”

As one blogger wrote among many on the RT site regarding the Russian bill amendments that would make Holocaust denial a “crime with fines ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 rubles (from $3,300 to $10,000), correctional labor for up to two years or, in severe cases, prison terms of up to two years,” or “If the crime is committed through abuse of office or together with threats of violence, the fines are raised to 500,000 rubles (under $17,000) and a maximum prison term of five years”: How can there be truth and justice if the media is censored and critics are imprisoned?

Well the Cyprus Gov't wasn't stupid...unfortunatety, the people were.  I can't believe they didn't leave the EU.  Still would have been a collapse, but at least the mechenisms would have been in place (depressed currency) to rebuild the place.

as of today, it is still significantly cheaper to set up a company, especailly manufacturing, in the USA compared to Cyprus.  Cyprus gov't was in the pockets of EU power houses the entire time.  for now the people protest with strongly worded signs, but eventually the pain is felt, then rocks, then whatever weapons are left.  Unfortunately, Cyprus is still 5 years or so away from finally hitting rock bottom and over throwing the gov.

get out of Cyprus ASAP.

Just read this over on MarketTicker and my jaw literally dropped!

"With banks confiscating up to 80 percent of uninsured deposits over 100,000 euros ($130,000) and the country facing a deep economic crisis, Cyprus has forgiven loans to politicians and companies while others are generally being required to pay in full, media reports said, setting off fury on the island country.

The Greek newspaper Ethnos and the website 24h.com.cy said that loans to Members of Parliament from the three major political parties and other officials in the public administration from the Bank of Cyprus and Cyprus Popular Bank (Laiki) will be written down or off."

Bankers don't want their debtors to have guns.  Too much of a threat.  Those loudest in proposing restrictions on our Second Amendment are either representing the bankers and/or are bought and paid for by the bankers...just think who they are and it will all make sense.

The Second Amendment was second only to the First Amendment and was put there to ensure the First Amendment is protected.  Once the Second Amendment goes, all bets are off.  Hate speech, punishable by imprisonment will then apply to criticism of many things you now find abhorrent.

During the uprising against the British which eventually lead to the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus (and which began on MARCH 31st, 1955  interestingly enough), EOKA rebels seized over 800 shotguns out of several thousand privately owned on the island. The task was made much easier thanks to a law that required all firearms to be registered.  These shotguns were subsequently employed by special guerilla "shotgun units" and used very effectively against British troops, the army, and domestic police during the course of that uprising.  In fact, many of the guerilla units were armed only with shotguns.  No wonder they only allow double-barrel shottys and maintain tight control on all weapons and ammunition now-a-days.

That's the beauty of euorpean socialism with politicians, and the central bank.  They can rob your imagined savings, make malinvestments with opaque hidden banking decisions, and help politicians look like they are giving you free social programs, and then be long out of town with your money when the obsfucicated bank robbery is later discovered. Cyprots can not find the actual assemblage of EU bankers and politicians that robbed their savings.

I think it is both. What a collection of gasbags MSNBS is, and has been for a long time. Shapton being on their payroll sums it all up. Something MUST be brewing. Of late, more states have been working on legislation at the state level, which would defy any fed gun-grab laws/attempts!!!

This is in N. Dakota:

"HB 1467 would prohibit the state or any government agency, during a declared state of emergency, from prohibiting or restricting the otherwise lawful possession, use, carrying, transfer, transportation, storage or display of a firearm or ammunition; seizure or confiscation of a lawfully possessed firearm; or requiring registration of a firearm or ammunition for which registration is not otherwise required by law.

This legislation would protect law-abiding citizens of North Dakota from experiencing a violation of their constitutional rights reminiscent of what occurred in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, where law-abiding citizens were stripped of their lawfully owned firearms by overzealous government officials leaving them defenseless and unable to protect their families and property."

http://tinyurl.com/d2o4fef

Similar stuff has been flying about in the red states ... as I recall.

Not good news.
