Gun Control? - How To "3D-Print" A Semi-Automatic Rifle

Tyler Durden's picture

As the furor over gun control fades from the front pages - and therefore from politicians need to actively participate en masse - it appears there is a rather large loophole that could change things considerably. As this clip shows, Cody R Wilson, a 25 year old University of Texas Law student, has figured out how to print a semi-automatic rifle from the comfort of his own home. Wilson is an advocate for the open source production of firearms using 3D printing technology and it is forcing the US legal system to catch up and control this new technology. From the constitution to the legal system and from the manufacture and test-firing of 3D-printed gun, this clip is intriguing to say the least.

This will be the headline on the local nightly news, in a few days:

"In other news, Cody Wilson, a 25-year old college student, died mysteriously of a heart attack, earlier today..."

"disarmament is the first step towards genocide"  Hard core but right.  I wish everyone that pays taxes had a gun.  Think of the implication of every taxpayer having a gun.  Crime would be slashed.

Or instead, perhaps we should entrust our freedom to a bunch of bureaucrats who cannot deliver mail without losing millions of dollars per month.  Even if you are a pansy who thinks that we should all just love eachother, or better still; dumb enough to think people want to live in harmony, how can you stand the prospect of asking the government to do anything more for us?

Attractive AND smart:

There's this.... idea that... history had ended after the cold war.  Right? And... it got like:  "if we could just tweak neoliberal democracy everything's gonna be fine... forever."  You know, like somehow this is the final political form.  I mean, this is ridiculous.  And like, you can see it.  There's no evidence of a political program anymore in the world.  In America. There aren't genuine politics.  There is the media telling you it's Barack Obama versus Mitt Romney.  It's like the epic clash of ideology.  When we... know they are both globalist neoliberals.  They both exist to preserve the interests of this relatively autonomous class of Goldman Sachs bankers.

One of the best quotes I've heard in a long time.

If you can print a whole gun and get about 10 fairly accurate shots off before it fails, these things could be quite useful for certain applications...... Recycling is not just good for the environment. Materials should be fairly cheap and plentiful also regardless. Just think of all that natural gas sitting in the ground waiting to be tapped. You can use it for than just fuel.

Also if the materials catch up enough to print casings that can withstand the pressure and heat of ignition you got yourself a cheap easily disposable asymetrical weapon with an untraceable ballistics fingerprint if used in one off applications. That has to give some people fits even having to entertain the possibility.
