Here’s a question that might have you pondering: Is gold a commodity? More importantly, are we doing a disservice to the gold industry by calling gold a commodity? These may sound like silly...

Most Expensive Places In The World For A Cheap Date

Tyler Durden's picture

As part of its semi-annual update on "mapping the world's prices", Deutsche Bank has released the following index which we believe may be of interest to some of our more cash-strapped readers. Using a price parity calculation, DB has created the "cheap date" index which consists of i) a standard bouquet of roses, ii) cab rides, iii) pizza, iv) a soft drink, v) two movies tickets and vi) a couple of beers. What the "hit rate" of said basket of products in achieving the desired goal is unclear, but what is clear is that while the disparity between the most expensive (Sydney, Australia) and least expensive (Mumbai, India) place for a cheap date is vast at over 250%, and even a cheap date in Mumbai will set one back some $88.30 (and rising... the price that is).

As an appendix, those lucky enough to have the above "cheap date" cocktail prove successful, will be curious to know the relative price in USD of a pack of Marlboro cigarettes across the world. Most expensive place to buy smokes is once again down under, while one can't beat the Philippines price for a cheap back of 'Boros.

In Buenos Aires, that country south of Brazil, the price is $2. (10 pesos) or Cambio price is $1.33 for the Marlborough Man

Yep. Buenos Aires outlawed indoor smoking several years ago.

But it would not occur to Argentines to punish smokers with punitive taxes, as New York's schoolmarm gov't does.

Like everything else in Argentina, cigarettes might even be subsidized ...

That's misleading.
Prostitution is legal in Ozzie land so no need for the tickets, roses, soda and beers.
Well, maybe the beers.
So, the anal-alysis should really be based upon another set of "demographics"

If you included all major centres of the world it would look like this;

1. Perth (Aust)
2. Broome (Aust)
3. Sydney (Aust)
4. Melbourne (Aust)
5. Darwin (Aust)
6. Gold Coast (Aust)
7. Townsville (Aust)
8. Cairns (Aust)
9. Brisbane (Aust)
10. Alice Springs (Aust)
11. Rest of the world in order

Tokyo, London, Toronto, San Fran, New York wouldn't even make the Top 10.

Make them buy e-cigs, much cheaper & healthier. I've been without cigs for 2 years now and never even been close to relapse. Make sure the ecig has nicotine thou.

Been on them for 2 weeks now Devine, seriously loving it. I was a hardcore smoker, and i defy anyone to try vaping and not WANT to keep doing it; i think this will be the death of the tobacco industry unless they start selling branded e-liquid.

Get them to vape with electronic cigarettes; i personally thought it was horse shit, but after doing it for 2 weeks, all i can say is that after 3 years of failed attempts to give up smoking(and 18 years on cigarettes) i have cracked it - i am now smoke free for life, certified. It beats smoking hands down and its also going snowball as an industry.

Been vaping for 3+ years, with one or two relapses when the ecig broke down and I was away from backup. Other than that, I now loathe smoking, and would never want to smoke again. Healthwise, I feel much better, and it's easier on the wallet. Mixing my own eliquids is at least 5 times cheaper than regular cigs.

Stupidest idea ever for the US of A.

We need those old smokers to die right after retirement. Pay into the ponzi their whole lives and collect no benefits! It's their civic duty to die fast. Hell. all old people need to die fast so there is something left for me.

Not only do we have class war, but we will soon have age wars and sex wars and ethnic and race wars.

Well, guess I must be posh (not), but I can't get the price of these goods/services in London is come in under GBP£158 / USD$252... and yes, I did try to use the cheap options... price of cab's and flowers kills it...

Of course this is a semi-annual survey so maybe they are working off Dec2012 prices in which case I see why its understated at time of going to print here and now.

Walk into any self service gas station in or near to any US city and ask the Paki behind the counter for '1 Cigarette'.  The going rate here on the East Coast is $1 a cig, cash and carry. 20 cigs to a pack equals $20 a pack.  Black market's alive and well...

Oh dear. I sense a "pot is good for you" thread hijack coming.

Funny sh*t on the LA Times web site months ago by lib arsehole dopers growing organic pot.  These hipster/hippies were lamenting how prices are plummeting - Libs don't like competition.  They were whining how they could not take nice vacations now.

Someone in the thread said dope is easy to grow because it is *****ng weed.  I bet pot is harder to kill like crabgrass versus growing.   I do not like pot but let the stoners grow small amounts at home.  It screws the govt and screws the cartels who back Bush 1 + 2, Clintons and O Muslim.

Has every war since Vietnam (and a few before) been about the narcotics trade?  Did the Roth klan in Europe and NE Wasps start in drugs with the Chinese opium trade?

Mon, 04/08/2013 - 12:03 | 3422231 Herd Redirectio...
Herd Redirection Committee's picture

Spot on re: war and the narcotics trade.  But its slightly more multidimensional.  These big boys like to achieve multiple goals with each of their operations.  Like Iraq, was it for the oil, or was it to invent a threat, which Homeland Security and most importantly, the 'Defence Industry' (aka Military Industrial Complex/Racket) could run with.

The answer is:  Both.  If you are going to argue it was either oil or the War on Terror, you are only partially correct, and they have got you 'dazed and confused', and even better, you will argue with people that you are right and they are wrong!  Divide and Conquer!  Another aim achieved.

Definitely people should be allowed to 'grow their own', it takes all the money out of the hands of Hells Angels (here in BC specifically).  Who wouldn't want that????  Let me guess...

Spot on, Freddie. If you have the time I'd suggest checking out Cover Wars and Breakaway Civilizations by Joseph Farrell. Well written book, documents (among other things) how intel agencies (cooked up straight from the Nazis) use drug money to finance their blackest projects. Also see his book Babylon's Banksters.

I can tell you from personal experience that hemp grows completely like weeds in eastern Europe. Of course that's not the really potent stuff, but I doubt it takes a genius to grow it (unless you're trying to do it in a windowless warehouse).
