UPDATE: *AT LEAST 3 PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN MARATHON BLASTS: BOSTON POLICE

In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon explosions, the WSJ is reporting that counterterrorism officials have found what they believe to be five additional, undetonated explosive devices around the Boston area. The devices - which are in addition to the two that exploded near the finish line of the marathon - were discovered over the course of a frantic inspection of suspicious packages. Each had been rendered inoperative or was in the process of being rendered inoperative.

Via WSJ,

Counterterrorism officials found what they believe to be five additional, undetonated explosive devices around the Boston area, according to two people briefed on the rapidly moving investigation.

The devices—which are in addition to the two that exploded near the finish line of the marathon—were discovered over the course of a frantic inspection of suspicious packages, many of them abandoned as pedestrians, runners, and others scrambled away from crowded public streets. Each had been rendered inoperative or was in the process of being rendered inoperative, the officials said.

But the officials also sounded a note of caution, saying they are moving quickly and each device they believe is a bomb hasn't been fully dissected or analyzed.

...

a White House official said: "Any event with multiple explosive devices - as this appears to be - is clearly an act of terror, and will be approached as an act of terror."

Here's my caveat to what I'm about to say...there are some really good guys that are cops.

However, the majority are looking for this, this is what they're being trained to do and they want to do it.  Get to strap on a auto or semi-auto and go in and show how 'powerful' they are.   It's all about scaring the citiznry into submission.

I know in my day to day activities, I just avoid the cops as much as possible.   In most cases they constantly exceed the speed limit, don't signal to change lanes, but they will take any opportunity to go through your vehicle...they even pull people over now for broken tail lights, which gets two cops on both sides of you....and be sure you haven't had a drink or two, or have some kind of 'smell' in your car.

One night, two am in Vermont, I got pulled over for speeding.  Cop came to my window, went through all his shit, then he said, 'have you been drinking tonight?', I said no (I actually had wine 8 hours earlier, but not alot) and he told me my car smelt overwhelmingly of alcohol.   So, it's just a thing they say...ANY reason to get you out of your car...and potentially search.   Not my America...

" they will take any opportunity to go through your vehicle "

You can refuse to consent to a search, you know ...

"Review and handle this way" next time:

Step out of vehicle, lock the car, insist you do not consent to a search.

When do you ever need machine guns in a domestic setting?

Machine guns are for killing 50 people at a time, they have no place on the streets of a democracy.

Only 2 of 7 bombs exploded makes it looklike a home-grown nut, black powder and ball bearings is about the lowest tech you can get.

There are bomb proof trash cans, why weren't these used? NYC removes trash cans at crowded events (nobody uses them anyway). Thime to outlaw public trash cans

It is getting tedious listening to the talking heads constantly bringing up the date ( which allows them to bring Oklahoma City ) as if the date of the marathon were not enough for the monster(s) who did this.  Like malevolent spiders they spin furiously to fit their sick narrative.

I agree with your sentiment but, why are you listening?    I find it best to wait a few days then watch.   I've stpped watching all popular media outlets and TV in general, except when Survivor is on, can't miss that...and Ghost Adventures!

Everything you need to know about this will be somewhere on the net...for instance right here on ZH.

Anyone (or any group) that sets about trying to kill innocent people to make a statement is psychotic to say the least.

It's my understanding though that it is "terrorism" when there is a political motive involved and a blatant criminal attack otherwise (i.e. Newtown was a criminal attack, 911 a political attack).  Please correct me if I am wrong in that distinction.

I am reserving my judgement as to who is to blame here, but I fear that regardless of who is the perpetrator(s), this event will be used as a justification to take away more of our civil rights.
